Hank Marvin is the most excellent lead guitarist to date . My personal favourite is Apache. I am thrilled that he is still making fabulous music , may he continue to do so for many years more.!!!
Hank is a super guitarist. He always plays with such talent. He used to live beside my aunt Emily who has passed. She adored his music. He practiced constantly and he deserved fame. Has a great personality. Thank you so very much.
They ask, why show Buddy Holly? Because he recorded a brilliant LP called Hank Plays Holly. If you don't hear it you're really missing an amazing experience!
An excellent interview. So wonderful to hear Hank. He will always be my guitar hero, there will NEVER be another guitarist like him, he is one on his own!!! Just amazing!
He is just such a great player and nice chap too, seeing him play on TV and hearing his records showed me what I need to do with the guitar. Something I've enjoyed playing along to for nearly 50 years.
Hank did a marvelous interview. Radio interviews are so much more difficult to do. Hank showed us how sincere and caring he is towards everyone. Thanks for still producing Albums, with and without your children. Ripper Mate👍. ❣❣
Very nice interview with a legendary guitarist. I love the music Hank has done as a solo artiste and as well with Cliff and the Shadows. A big favourite album of mine is 'Marvin at the movies' and the tracks on that are amazing especially the James Bond themes track. Brian Bennett has also done an album which is all instrumental which has an unreleased Shadows track on it which is a great album. The album is called 'Shadowing John Barry' and all the tracks are played in the style of the Shadows and also features a medley track of James Bond themes similar to the Hank Marvin version. A great album for Shadows fans. The Cliff and the Shadows reunion album is awesome, I also bought the dvd of the concert. Really good to see them again. Long may they continue.
Buddy Holly was a big star before Cliff and The Shadows emerged and the Newspapers honed in on the hornrimmed glasses that Hank and Buddy both wore. Not many pop stars wore glasses back then.
good on you Alex. Hank's a living legend WITHOUT A DOUBT. Hey you know next year will be 60 years since 'Move it' song was recorded and released and it launched Cliff and the Shadows ? What would be cool is if Cliff , Hank , Bruce and the Shadows could cut a new album - a mix of standards, remakes of their own classics, and maybe a few new songs especially written that encapsulates or is in the spirit of the late 50's. Maybe follow it up with another concert tour would be interesting!
Great I/V and I do think Hank at the very least had aptitude. I'm very glad that his stuff stands up 50-60 years on. The Living Doll solo is masterful but you know I think it might just pre-date the Strat. so one of my questions would be what guitar was it played on? I'm glad Hank defended Cliff so powerfully. It made me feel really confused. No there's precious little justice in life generally. Live shows a big strain for an older guy. Sorry Hank! Yes people do like what you do Hank and you always deliver. From a wheelchair - well I'd pay, but then there's a big emotional content for me. My youth my youth wherefore art thou gone? Thanks Hank, Thanks MOS and thanks Alex
Good question Berry. I have been checking around asking the same question. I was told today by a well-known Shadows expert that Hank borrowed a copy of a Gretsch White Falcon guitar to record "Living Doll". What confused me was the vibrato at the end of the song but I was also told that Hank got the effect by pressing down on the tailpiece of the White Falcon copy. In a recent interview with Guitar Magazine, Hank said he could not remember the recording where he used the Strat for the first time. But he says he definately used it on "Travelling Light". The Drifters made several recordings including "Jet Black" early in 1959.Hank used his Antoria for that. Living Doll was recorded in April 1959."Travelling Light" was recorded July 25th 1959. The Strat arrived somewhere in between these recordings.
The Shadows music is seriously sexy. Beautiful, magical and yes, sexy!!👍 I love the fact that the visuals on this clip include a picture of Buddy Holly! Some young person was probably left in charge of it and got them mixed up! Easy mistake to make!!
perhaps - although from reading 'Shadows by themselves' Buddy Holly was Hank's big idol - the strat, the specs (and of course years later Bruce owns the the catalogue )
No....however much a legend he is for his pre '65 music, I'd loathe to see Marvin in, or out (for that matter) a weelchair , legends should be careful about the legacy they leave behind, look at the pathetic Strolling Bones........terminally hooked on worship....
My hero a legend Thanks for the music Hank
Best Guitar bloke ever xx😢😂❤xxxxxx
I was with my parents when we met him in the garden of a pub about 1964.He was a gentleman and very friendly.
Love the way you defend Cliff...we all knew he was innocent. My heart broke for him...
Sir Cliff Richard and Hank Marvin are both exceptional men.....talented and good men as well. Too bad, there aren't more like then today !

I am from America actually from Michigan and I love Hank Marvin music all the way. I saw Cliff Richard in a video and found the music and I Love it !!
He's a lovely man and I'm so glad he spoke out for Cliff. As he says - that was an appalling situation that should never have happened.
He is just such a great player and nice chap too, seeing him play on TV and hearing his records showed me what I need to do with the guitar. Something I've enjoyed playing along to for nearly 50 years.
Great. Hank is something very special. He is my hero and inspiration.
Mine too
Great to hear Hank again.
Its great to hear hank is still playing and making good music keep it up from Australia
Greetings from Singapore. Great to read that he has a new album out. Hank was my first guitar hero and inspired me to learn to play the guitar.

My hero Hank Marvin my 1st tune i played ROUND AND ROUND
Legend x
Such a great interview.
🎸 🎶 The best guitar player ever
A superb talent. Check out his recent Gypsy Jazz album. Such a departure from Shadows et al but done with a passion and technical brilliance.
Why do you keep showing the picture of Buddy Holly! 😆 Hanks brilliant
Buddy Holly was a big star before Cliff and The Shadows emerged and the Newspapers honed in on the hornrimmed glasses that Hank and Buddy both wore. Not many pop stars wore glasses back then.
Cliff should not have gone through that ordeal in the first place.

Hank is the guitarist who influenced me to learn the guitar..
Good player hank Tim shadows fan 11:08
Americans might quite reasonably believe the The Ventures Walk Dont Run, is probably the best instrumental ever

I'm wondering why there appears a picture of Buddy Holly all the time? Hank looked similar, okay, but not completely.
why the Buddy Holly picture?
They had a brief relationship.
glasses
Hank was a fan of Buddy Holly
Because he looks like Buddy. Buddy's father liked Hank because of it and told him when Buddy died.
Monique W cliff shagged him
I don't know ..I think this guy was a gambler..y'know the secret vice ..
Why did we keep seeing a picture of Buddy Holly ?
Because Buddy's father told Hank looks like his son.
THE SHADOWS WERE FANS OF BUDDY HOLLY WITH THE STRATOCASTER GUITAR !....////
It's a Specsavers promo.
Clff is great people should leavehlm along 15:47
Cliff has "face that U Just wanna slap"!!..... :) *As Del-boy said!!.... :)
That's simply ridiculous. Grow up, man!
why show Buddy Holly all the time... Guess it was one of Hanks' idol, but to show it again and again.... mwah, not that neccesary.
a woman told me cliff was gay ..she knew him in the West end ..she was a windmill girl
Aha...That's not really interesting. Don't be so boring. Cliff is a great musician and human, that's all that matters.
he knows so hes guilty too
