I can also imagine the Gymnopilus species are likely fighting amongst themselves and the Schizophyllum commune and various other possible wood saprotrophs living in the stump over area and nutrients, which is something you cannot see but is still notable through effects such as the disappearance of new fruiting bodies of some of these fungi from the stump for extended periods, which can also be attributed to the levels of resources left in the stump over longer periods of time and various other factors. There is essentially an unseen game of strategy playing out amongst the fungi in Pantdora.;

Ive taken acid once and watched 12hrs of documentaries about ants and somehow (and thankfully) I came across your channel. You have absolutely changed my way about insects... Youve given me new thoughts about how I view them. The way you talk and teach us about them is insane, and I value it so much :)
29:15 I actually got chills on that closing monologue when I realized that the critters that pass away will stay in pandoras ecosystem. Of course I already knew that, but there's something ethereal in knowing that their physical selves will be recycled but their souls will live on... RIP Stanley and Miss Green Reaper 🕊
Lovely philosophical monologue indeed! What eventually is representing all life around and we should cherish this perspective more. The circle of energy.
That little bit actually made me sit and think about how we pump our dead full of chemicals and put them in caskets in very specific locations... i'm thinking I might save enough that when I die my body can be buried where nature can fully reap the benefit from my remains
I'm very new here, like last night new. I help take care of my 3 nephews (under 10). For over 24 hours they haven't asked to watch a movie, play a video game etc. We have been captivated by this. Thank you so much man. It's so awesome to see these young boys so interested in something educational!
The amount of calm that comes with each of these videos, with light giggles sprinkled throughout have kept my anxiety at an all time low recently. I’m sorry for your losses. Never expected to be sad by a death of insects, but here I am. This series is amazing to show the circle of life, from earth we all came and to there we will return. And as you said, the energy of those who died will make new life’s flourish! It’s strangely intimate how all life is connected
As a content producer, I was thinking something similar. Like, how can I learn from him and provide a better entertainment and education for my viewers lol

RIP STANLEY AND GREEN REAPER. Thank you for your contributions in life, as well as in death, to the natural order and evolution of Pantdora. 💔 "For things of old must pass away to bring forth new life" 💞
Didn't think that your mini-rainforest-series, that I freshly discovered, would get so close to me... but I definitely feel you about the mantis ! I had the great pleasure of finding a Mantis in our garden (middle Europe, I think it's mainly "Mantis religiosa"), that was in the middle of the process of laying her egg sack !! I couldn't belive my eyes that I was so lucky to catch that moment personally ! 🥰 and then I finally knew what these strange white structures were, that I had already found randomly again and again in the garden: Mantis-egg-sacks ! 😁 I thought it was some kind of cocoon, but now I know better 😆 and I was a bit shocked to learn about Mantis that after laying the eggs, it will soon be over for them and if not, then their life span of only 1 year will end anyhow 😢 very sad to hear that they only live that short... the more merry when I find new Mantis in the following year, hiding in the garden, partially 2-3 at the same time (hidden on different places of course). So I don't know why, but I'm glad that our garden has been blessed to be chosen for these rare insects 😊and I'm already curious, what will come out of the final package of your Green Reaper ! 🤩 oh.... and speaking of rare insects: last year our "raised bed" in the garden got inherited by 'scoliid wasps' (should be "Megascolia maculata"), that were swarming all around during day time, so we better kept some respect distance - but in the late evening, when they were resting, we could harvest our vegetables, that were as huge and fabulous as never before ! I guess these wasps helped with lice and other small insects that were consuming the plants the year before ?...
Been here for sooo long! 😂 back when he mainly used the little plastic ant houses. I remember the first time seeing him build a terrarium and having my mind BLOWN, all for the love of ants and the AC Nation! It’s ant love forever 🐜❤️ 😂

I'm sorry for the loss of the little ones...it's always hard to watch a little life you've observed for a long time and grown attached to passes on...
I have never felt so sad about any insect before, but Stanley and The Green Repper both passing away just hit me differently, I hope one day you'll have another bush cricket just munching on those vines someday. May both Stanley and The Green Repper never be forgotten and may they both rest in peace.
😢 RIP to the fallen, it was so sad, but at the same time it's so beautiful to see new babies popping up, new life sprouting, surprise new fungi, eggs everywhere. Awesome episode, bud, keep up the good work, this has very quickly and easily become my favorite series.
I've had other favorite colonies that got me watching 90% of their episodes, like The Golden Empire, but this vivarium is something else, next level. Truly top-tier UA-cam happening.
I was beyond happy when I saw the mantis egg sac, almost brought a tear to my eye. Never did I think the male would have somehow completed his mission and secured the next generation of mantises before he was eaten. After the death of Stanley and the green reaper I was a little sad, I’ve been watching this channel since the ant colony days and I’ve been emotionally invested in this jungle for ages. Great to see that nature always works out in the end, regardless of what happens. There are never any mistakes, everything is meant to happen the way it does. This is huge for the future of Pandora.
@@TheRealColt45 We don’t know if she mated, there were 1-3 hour gaps in between the shots in the video, so no one knows if the male was able to mate with the green reaper. Apparently, it was able to because if not, an egg sac would not have been able to form. Also, we don’t know if they somehow mated on the first night, or some time when the cameras weren’t on at night or throughout the day.
@@iDropPhats Mystery! After doing a bit of UA-cam sleuthing it appears that the female mantis can lay an egg sac if not fertilized but who knows. This will be very interesting to watch!
@@TheRealColt45 Indeed so, I’m also interested in the huntsman spider egg sac and whether it’s fertilized or not. So many things to watch out for, that’s the beauty of a project like this! Everything is always happening
Producing this level of content with a production team of people would be incredibly impressive. I don’t know if it’s just you or not, but I can’t emphasize enough how high quality the content is. Cheers mate, please keep it up, and make sure you don’t burn yourself out. We all need vacations now and again.
He’s a one-man team. He films it by himself and also the one who edits and narrates. I guess that’s why he misses some of the footage of the mantises “probably” mating when he’s not around
This was the story of a cricket named Stanley Stanley lived in a terrarium in a big building where he was filmed by AntsCanada UA-cam channel. Cricket Stanley's life was simple. He walked along the vines and ate some leaves. This is what Stanley did every day, of every month, of every year And although others might have considered it soul-rending, Stanley relished every moment that he got a chance to eat some leaves, as though he had been made exactly for this. And Stanley was happy. And then one day, something very peculiar happened, something that would forever change Stanley, something he would never quite forget. He had been walking along a vine, when he realized that nature has its own plans on his life. Never in all of his weeks at the terrarium has this happened, this strange thought never came to him. Something was very clearly wrong. Shocked, frozen solid, Stanley found himself unable to move for the longest time. But as he came to his wits and regained his senses, Stanley left his now empty husk and went on a new adventure as a part of an ecosystem he was already in.
I consider myself very soft hearted towards nature but was noticing myself not feeling that sad about the death of the bugs because I thought “ah, it’s just part of the cycle of life.” Then I came and read all the comments of people who are sad about the bugs dying and that actually brought a lump into my throat and tears into my eyes. It is so wonderful that your videos inspire people to connect so deeply to nature, I think you’re doing something really powerful with these videos and it’s so incredibly inspiring and gives me hope that there are ways to show people the beauty of the world around us and how worthy it is of protection and care. Also if you haven’t read “My Family and Other Animals” you should… it was my favourite book when I was a kid about a boy’s childhood who grew up to be a famous naturalist and zookeeper who was a big part of making zoos much better than they once were. His animal collection was my dream as a kid and you’ve basically living that dream!
This was once again a nailbiter, full of amazing shots. Absolutely love the story unfolding in this little slice of rainforst. Hard not to be attached to some of its inhabitants, but they couldnt have wished for a more beautiful place to live. I would really love to see a timelapse in time of the vivarium evolving as the year procedes
The ultimate sacrifice to give continuity to your lineage: a male praying mantis that throws himself to death just to have the opportunity to mate in a split second while being eaten alive. Kudos to you brave being.
Your video have gotten better over the years, and so have all of the habitats you create. One thing I noticed most of all after watching one of your older videos is how absolutely JACKED you have gotten. You've gotten buff over the years!

7:18 Probably Gymnopilus; gilled mushroom growing on wood and warm colored primarily with occasional cool colored blotches in some species as well as veils and scaly-caps are good tells for Gymnopilus
7:20 Schizophyllum commune; White w/ fuzzy pileus with (not pictured) pinkish split gills
7:23 Gymnopilus fulvosquamulosus; yellow gilled w/ brownish-orangish spiky scales on cap
Your Gymnopilus species alongside Schizophyllum commune are actively digesting the tree stump and likely providing food to grazing invertebrates; your Mycena species are decomposing litter/soil and also providing food to small grazing invertebrates. I can also imagine the Gymnopilus species are likely fighting amongst themselves and the Schizophyllum commune and various other possible wood saprotrophs living in the stump over area and nutrients, which is something you cannot see but is still notable through effects such as the disappearance of new fruiting bodies of some of these fungi from the stump for extended periods, which can also be attributed to the levels of resources left in the stump over longer periods of time and various other factors. There is essentially an unseen game of strategy playing out amongst the fungi in Pantdora.;

Im not the only one who noticed! 😁
There is a lot of subtle music that improves the episodes. Guy is talented!
😁 I thought it was some kind of cocoon, but now I know better 😆
and I was a bit shocked to learn about Mantis that after laying the eggs, it will soon be over for them and if not, then their life span of only 1 year will end anyhow 😢 very sad to hear that they only live that short... the more merry when I find new Mantis in the following year, hiding in the garden, partially 2-3 at the same time (hidden on different places of course). So I don't know why, but I'm glad that our garden has been blessed to be chosen for these rare insects 😊and I'm already curious, what will come out of the final package of your Green Reaper ! 🤩
oh.... and speaking of rare insects: last year our "raised bed" in the garden got inherited by 'scoliid wasps' (should be "Megascolia maculata"), that were swarming all around during day time, so we better kept some respect distance - but in the late evening, when they were resting, we could harvest our vegetables, that were as huge and fabulous as never before ! I guess these wasps helped with lice and other small insects that were consuming the plants the year before ?...
Does anyone else remember when this channel was all about raising Ant colonies in your own homemade setup?
Man it's truly been a wild ride!
Yup! I have been here for years now

What a rollercoaster of an episode, the twist with the Green Reaper's egg sac floored me.

So they did mate after all lol
I dont think they mated ! I think he put the sac there himself !
Of course they did. I called it in a comment on that episode. He literally cut out the part where they made contact and skipped to the male being eaten. He did it so he can act surprised when it laid an egg 🙄

Can a female mantis lay the egg sac even if she hasn't mated?
Yes
@@TheRealColt45 We don’t know if she mated, there were 1-3 hour gaps in between the shots in the video, so no one knows if the male was able to mate with the green reaper. Apparently, it was able to because if not, an egg sac would not have been able to form. Also, we don’t know if they somehow mated on the first night, or some time when the cameras weren’t on at night or throughout the day.
@@iDropPhats Mystery! After doing a bit of UA-cam sleuthing it appears that the female mantis can lay an egg sac if not fertilized but who knows. This will be very interesting to watch!

This isn't even his only channel either
@@agen0019 He has a videographer and an editor. You can see them on his other channel.
This was the story of a cricket named Stanley
Stanley lived in a terrarium in a big building where he was filmed by AntsCanada UA-cam channel.
Cricket Stanley's life was simple.
He walked along the vines and ate some leaves.
This is what Stanley did every day, of every month, of every year
And although others might have considered it soul-rending, Stanley relished every moment that he got a chance to eat some leaves, as though he had been made exactly for this.
C'mon man, you can't make me laugh and then cry in the exact same comment
oh, that was great. thanks for that🙂

This comment wins ❤
