By consuming their web, spiders can reclaim the valuable proteins and other nutrients that went into its construction. It is common for spiders to eat their own web daily to recoup some of the energy used in spinning. Through ingestion and digestion, the silk proteins are thus recycled. - Google 🤷🏻♂️

9:39 I’m no spider expert per-say… but I have heard of this. Some species of spiders eat their own silk to “recycle” the amino acids that make up the silk proteins. Making silk is expensive and demands energy so it’s best not to let it go to waste.
Easily the best recommendation I've seen so far. Everyone seems to latch onto an acrobat theme, rather than something that makes more sense with the personality of the ants. My first thought was something related to tanks.
About the spider eating silk. Spiders can't infinitely make spider silk. When they are moving their web somewhere else, they eat up the silk and reuse it. I think that spider was just cleaning off some silk stuck to its spinnerets. EDIT: From the biggest fan of the acrobat ants, I suggest the name "Killer Clowns"
Seeing Lady Death Strike's body being surrounded by various creatures looking to make use of her now inanimate body was actually kind of beautiful. She shed her corporeal exoskeleton and expanded into the whole of Pantdora.
I prefer just letting the chips fall where the may, and I think that's what he probably will do. Trying to control too much could have collapse the who ecosystem. It'll balance itself out
@@maxbracegirdle9990100% agree. And he's removed ant colonies that got out of control twice already. I say let nature take it's course until things prove to be detrimental.
Watched the entire series in a day, so addictive, I don't even want to imagine the level of editing you put into these video, keep up the fantastic work!
Not a spider expert but I looked this up. The proteins in spider silk are a valuable commodity. Making silk demands energy on the spider's part, so sometimes it will eat its own silk, allowing its body to recycle the proteins to make new silk. Many spiders routinely tear down their webs and begin again, so they may as well recycle their building materials.

Lady Death Strike could be called a founding mother of Pantora. Her two sets of babies will provide nutrients to all sorts of life and keep overflowing population in check. While it's sad to see her gone, it's good to know she passed peacefully after getting the great news that her egg sack was full of healthy babies. I am also really happy to see the termites thirve.

GNOME ANT POTENTIAL ID: After going thru antmaps for the Philippines and looking at pictures for the numerous species you have, Vombisidris sp. appears to be the closest looking ant to your gnome ants. I was originally going to say temnothorax, cause they look alot like acorn ants, but you dont have those which sparked the crusade i went on to figure it out for you. Hope this helps!
One of my favorite things about ants Canada is every upload he always has a life lesson to teach us and it always makes me have a different perspective of live and the world
Making spider silk is energy intensive. When a spider has no immediate need for it's silk, and hasn't caught anything in a while, it will eat it's own silk to recycle the energy.
I was anticipating Lady Deathstrike hatching that second egg sack and then completing her lifecycle. Still was sad to see her laying on the forest floor. Then u see all the life her spiritless body is going to support and all the new life she’s been able to give and I smile to see a life well fulfilled! ❤
From Google.: Pitcher Plants require consistent moisture and high humidity in order to thrive. If they experience periods of dry soil or low humidity, their pitchers will die off as a way to preserve energy. Your plant is usually able to bounce back from a period of drought, but some pitcher die-off is to be expected.
Spiders eat their silk to not waste the nutrients. Spiders are constantly developing silk in their abdomen and the silk has some nutrients to help develop more silk. Instead of wasting it.

There's several things for identifying mushrooms you can provide in the next video if you want an ID. Pick one of them and put the cap on a piece of paper overnight, gills down. It'll release spores on the paper and different mushrooms have different coloured spores, so that'll be a clue. Does the mushroom bruise when touched? Does it change colour if you cut it? What does it smell like? Does the foot crumble or stay together when you pick it? The colour reminds me of some types of Russula, but they don't have rings on the foot,
I would hope he gets the invaders in control first tho tbh 😅 as cool as it would be I'm starting be concerned at how many insects and animals he's finding that weren't supposed to be there 😅😅 I get they are likely from plants, but it's still something that's preventable.
The Acrobat ants should be called the Tree Trunk Trolls. Due to in the beginning they were known for their bravery to run in and mess with the other residents of Pantdora. Almost like as if they were getting a kick out of trolling them. Also the alliteration of Tree Trunk Trolls sounds quite fun for these ants with such unique personalities
9:48 I'm not a spider expert hell I have arachnophobia but I remember hearing somewhere that spiders can only make a limited amount of webs/silk and eat their own webs/silk to recycle it and make more
i like how there is an ant species for every niche in the vivarium. the Acrobat ants tend to stay high, the Marauders stay in the mid portion, and the Gnome ants are on the surface floor.
Someone mentioned this in a previous video, but the Acrobat Ants are a lot like Mafia Wiseguys. They walk around in constant threat pose, hassling everyone they come across, yelling "I'm walkin' 'ere!" the whole time. Could call them "The Mob" or "The Wiseguys" :)
Those mushrooms are Golden/Yellow-Gilled Gymnopilus! They are in fact magic! However, they could also be highly toxic depending on species variation. I would get an expert to identify it before your “friend” tries to ingest them. So cool!
@@teaguebroccardo9028 i’m no expert but i know it’s definitely part of the Gymnopilus species. which are known for being magic and some known for being toxic. But that’s definitely a magic mushroom containing psilocybin! (i may or may not be speaking from personal experience)
I have this species of mushroom growing in my shed in Michigan and I have observed the morphology over a few years of fruiting (my UA-cam icon is actually a spore print from these) and I definitely agree. I believe Gymnopilus luteofolius is the likely species but it’s possible that it’s another type of psilocybin-containing Gymnopilus species. You can see greenish staining on the mushrooms in the video which is indicative of psilocybin within the genus Gymnopilus. These mushrooms are my absolute favorite species so it’s super cool to see them in Pantdora!

A huntsman spider will eat its silk as its a source of protein. They don't build webs but rather line the bottom of their flat nests with it. They will recycle its silk for energy, some of which will be used into making more silk!
19:49 Poor girl never got to enjoy the Vivarium. Spent her time in a tiny box giving birth, then giving birth on the wall again. Very successful momma, wish we could have seen you living your best life as all your babies will though!
@@cardiac777You’re clownshoes bud. These spiders will just live in your house and eat all the bugs they can. The spider which could have easily just been squished by any other human was fed and cared for, she was given access to a male which she was able to presumably double clutch two spawns from and got to see her offspring go off to live a relatively natural life. I can’t imagine back to back pregnancy is easy on the body when she only had a few days between her egg sacks which she spent weeks not eating while caring for both sets. As far as the life of an average huntsman spider goes hers was not so bad.
@@TheOpiace420 The huntsman was not happy at all. They're one of the few spiders that are known for being rather kind, killing their mate is extremely rare and they often live in large colonies in peace. The fact this female was so angry and killing her mate, not able to find a safe place to keep her sac (Huntsman spiders prefer to cocoon away with their egg sac, not stay right in the open.) The male often protects the female whilst she's 'nesting' so the fact that she murdered him means she was not happy and considered him a threat instead of friend (small box not good.) She was definitely not given the best life.
Ghost ants are not really a fan of high humidity and live in crevices. Most likely their queen and brood would not be in there, but would eat scout the place for a snack. Ghost ants seem to be too weak to combat against acrobat ants and Marauders as I observed in the wild. So I think they would be a fine addition. Edit: The "gnome ants" seem like some type of tetramorium, I can't exactly tell the species but I'm sure the ant keeping community(reddit, discord, facebook, etc.) would be able to get the exact species
9:51 it’s eating its own web because the web is very nutrient and spiders also do not have infinite silk, it takes a while for a spider to create more silk.

Some tiny night vision cameras on live stream with nature sounds in the background would be awesome.

He can't do that. This is an entertainment channel not educational. He changes and manipulates things as time goes on. Wouldn't want you to look behind the curtain!
@@wanderingsurf2842 I wouldn't say this isn't an educational channel.
Although it is more focused on the entertainment value than the educational aspects, its not _just_ about being entertaining
This might be the best series a UA-cam channel has done. I'm literally thrilled when each new episode arrives.
Sames! Only thing I look forward to watching every Sunday 😅
Agreed 100%. We're really blessed to have this on UA-cam. It's an absolute master work. I'd like to think it's Mikey's magnum opus. It has me fixated on UA-cam every weekend hoping to be among the first to watch an update.
I am starting to develop a kind of strange respect and admiration for the Dark Horde if anything for their tenacity and defiance.
About the spider eating its silk: she's prrobably just cleaning her abdomen to either allow the silk to come out easier or just as a routine
Yep, spiders are rather fastidious with their grooming. Very much like cats that way.
Came here for this comment
Yeah it’s to make new silk . Sometimes they do it to discard their damaged silk
Could also be clearing out its spinneret ducts so it can switch between one type of silk and another.
It is common for spiders to eat their own web daily to recoup some of the energy used in spinning. Through ingestion and digestion, the silk proteins are thus recycled. - Google 🤷🏻♂️
Man, forgot to comment on the last one but the explanation of parasitism working out over millions of years is how we and most living being came to be was wild and something I never knew! So thank you for that!
The fact you are constantly filming and editing and tending to not only Pantdora but ALL of your projects that we've seen in the past, It's an incredible talent and dedication showing your passion and love, especially seeing you use old footage from what must be months ago, going through to put those in as visual to the story is amazing. That is what makes this series so incredible AC, it's not just a show, its a passion, a love for these being that most barely know under surface level. Your ability to break down these walls and bring everyone into your incredible love and get us as excited and intrigued as you is masterful. Thank you, and please keep sharing your love and passion with us. Much love AC.
Thank you so much! You are part of Pantdora's journey now. Ant love forever!
9:39 I’m no spider expert per-say… but I have heard of this. Some species of spiders eat their own silk to “recycle” the amino acids that make up the silk proteins. Making silk is expensive and demands energy so it’s best not to let it go to waste.
Replying to draw attention
Agreed! - no expert either but I'm given to understand this behaviour relates to resource conservation/recycling.

Seeing as they always have their guns cocked on their travels call the acrobat ants "The Highwaymen" lol
To the top!!!
Easily the best recommendation I've seen so far. Everyone seems to latch onto an acrobat theme, rather than something that makes more sense with the personality of the ants. My first thought was something related to tanks.
Except they're, like, ladies not men. ;-)
Yes ❤
“It flied to heaven” was the best quote in all of the episodes
About the spider eating silk.
Spiders can't infinitely make spider silk. When they are moving their web somewhere else, they eat up the silk and reuse it. I think that spider was just cleaning off some silk stuck to its spinnerets.
EDIT: From the biggest fan of the acrobat ants, I suggest the name "Killer Clowns"
Seriously I love the little madmen. Always just trolling everything else 😆
Seeing Lady Death Strike's body being surrounded by various creatures looking to make use of her now inanimate body was actually kind of beautiful. She shed her corporeal exoskeleton and expanded into the whole of Pantdora.
maybe put some diatomaceous earth chalk around the edges of the mesh? to prevent more Ghost Ants from making it into Pantdora?

Not a spider expert but I looked this up. The proteins in spider silk are a valuable commodity. Making silk demands energy on the spider's part, so sometimes it will eat its own silk, allowing its body to recycle the proteins to make new silk. Many spiders routinely tear down their webs and begin again, so they may as well recycle their building materials.

GNOME ANT POTENTIAL ID:
After going thru antmaps for the Philippines and looking at pictures for the numerous species you have, Vombisidris sp. appears to be the closest looking ant to your gnome ants. I was originally going to say temnothorax, cause they look alot like acorn ants, but you dont have those which sparked the crusade i went on to figure it out for you. Hope this helps!
looks pretty legit
I thought about Aragog's death in Harry Potter.
From Google.:
Pitcher Plants require consistent moisture and high humidity in order to thrive.

The colour reminds me of some types of Russula, but they don't have rings on the foot,
The wood saprobe species is Gymnopilus luteofolius. The other fungus showcased is a Lycoperdon species of some sort.
suggest you wash after handling, just in case

The Acrobat ants should be called the Tree Trunk Trolls. Due to in the beginning they were known for their bravery to run in and mess with the other residents of Pantdora. 9:48 I'm not a spider expert hell I have arachnophobia but I remember hearing somewhere that spiders can only make a limited amount of webs/silk and eat their own webs/silk to recycle it and make more
Thank u
i like how there is an ant species for every niche in the vivarium. the Acrobat ants tend to stay high, the Marauders stay in the mid portion, and the Gnome ants are on the surface floor.
The Acrobat Ants could be called the Outlaw Circus, always on the move, always ready to shoot!

I like the mob. Or just, the mafia.
Those mushrooms are Golden/Yellow-Gilled Gymnopilus! They are in fact magic! However, they could also be highly toxic depending on species variation. I would get an expert to identify it before your “friend” tries to ingest them. So cool!
I was thinking Gymnopilus Purpuratus, only because it was so purple

Exactly, kidnapped and used for a youtube channel, yay 😕
@cardiac666 Arachnids aren't looking for fun, she was able to complete her life objective and then die.
She did escape and wander through the house though.
The fact this female was so angry and killing her mate, not able to find a safe place to keep her sac (Huntsman spiders prefer to cocoon away with their egg sac, not stay right in the open.) The male often protects the female whilst she's 'nesting' so the fact that she murdered him means she was not happy and considered him a threat instead of friend (small box not good.)
She was definitely not given the best life.
