- Опубліковано 31 бер 2024
- My giant cloud rainforest vivarium, Pantdora, has been developing and evolving as an ecosystem over the past four months, but for the first time, some intruders have found their way inside the vivarium: ghost ants, some of the worlds most invasive tropical ant species enter Pantdora in search of valuable resources for their colony. Will they find something worth summoning their entire colony? What new discoveries and surprises will we find in the rainforest? Hope you enjoy today's video, Season 2 Episode 3 of my Ecosystem Vivarium Series. Ant love forever! This video was shot in 4K Ultra HD resolution.

The Acrobat ants should be called the Small striders. I think it's quite fitting. For the dwarf ants. How about: little flames. Since they are a bit like small fire ants.

When a spider is observed eating its web, it’s typically engaging in a behavior known as web-recycling or web-reabsorption. This behavior is commonly seen in orb-weaving spiders after they’ve finished using a particular web. By consuming their web, spiders can reclaim the valuable proteins and other nutrients that went into its construction. This recycling process allows the spider to conserve energy and resources, which is particularly important for species that produce intricate webs regularly. Additionally, by removing the old web, the spider can maintain a clean and efficient hunting environment, ready to construct a new web as needed. So, when a spider is seen eating its web, it’s simply part of its natural behavior to optimize resource utilization and maintain its living space.

Lady Death Strike could be called a founding mother of Pantora. Her two sets of babies will provide nutrients to all sorts of life and keep overflowing population in check. While it's sad to see her gone, it's good to know she passed peacefully after getting the great news that her egg sack was full of healthy babies. I am also really happy to see the termites thirve.

For real. I'm FULLY invested in this vivarium.
I have an empty 150 gallon tank ever since my huge Paku died. I don't know what to do with it.
Any recommendations?
If it's interesting enough perhaps I'll start posting videos.
150 gallon isn't big enough to create a ecosystem like this, but it's big enough to get something cool going.
All ideas are welcome. The more intricate the better. I really look forward to your suggestions. My tank has been empty for too long ☹️
I am not surprised Lady Deathstrike died, caring for two egg sacs in that short a period of time seems EXTREMELY resource consuming and she barely had any time whatsoever to hunt before she had the second one and stopped hunting again. Spiders can go a long time without food and all, but producing the babies also takes a ton of resources and back to back she just didn't have enoug.
Just what I thought, when I saw the second one, but hoped she could pull through…
@@thnkr-jl7hw She was a tough one, but parenthood is even tougher...
Yea, I 100% expected her to die too sadly. Not enough time to recover between egg sacks. Now AC needs to put some spider hunters in the vivarium or the Age of Aracnida will become the Plague of Aracnida. 🫤
I was gonna say the same thing. When she had that second egg sac, i knew her time was limited. Im so glad the second sac was fertilized though
I could care for 3 egg sacks in a short period
The acrobat ants should be called the Gunslingers
I take back my suggestion, this is better!
Seeing Lady Death Strike's body being surrounded by various creatures looking to make use of her now inanimate body was actually kind of beautiful. She shed her corporeal exoskeleton and expanded into the whole of Pantdora.
6:42 Spiders are the monsters of the rainforest floor. Gnomes: Hold my Honeydew.

It’s so fascinating seeing the evolution of the Hallelujah Tree Stump. If you remember it was taken originally from a rather dry and bare location. But ever since putting it into Pandora it has been slowly carpeted with moss, fungus, and vines. It’s honestly beautiful to witness it’s slow transformation and that it’s the home to a large majority of creatures in Pandora!
It is a mini-ecosystem in its own right, and a vital hub of biological diversion withing Pantdora! I do not believe that we have yet seen the last of the biological or microbiological contributions of the Hallelujah Tree Stump to Pantdora's diversity.
That stump as I suspected from the start would be the central focus and heart of the life within Pantdora.

11:59 Lycoperdon species; potentially edible depending on species, but you'll need to wait for full maturation to ID and even then ID may be difficult due to their inconspicuous nature
17:42 Gymnopilus luteofolius; psychoactive species w/ psilocybin
That's all for the fungi in this video!
Lol really? To the top with you!
Replying to draw attention!
Are you positive the second one is correctly id'd? From images I saw of gymnopilous luteofolius they don't seem to usually have a dark ring like the specimens on the video. I could be wrong tho.
@@maucawYes, the spiky deep purple cap when young and reddish-purple cap when mature are good indicators. The veil in this video appears to merely be shaded, giving it a darker appearance than normal (it actually seems to be a dark orange which is usual for this species). It also has more of a veil than you’d find on wild specimens, likely due to the nature of Pantdora’s enclosed environment, which could explain some of the visual differences as the ring’s ephemerality usually results in it disappearing quickly and often leaving a dark kind of ring-zone in its wake.

GNOME ANT POTENTIAL ID:
After going thru antmaps for the Philippines and looking at pictures for the numerous species you have, Vombisidris sp. appears to be the closest looking ant to your gnome ants. I was originally going to say temnothorax, cause they look alot like acorn ants, but you dont have those which sparked the crusade i went on to figure it out for you. Hope this helps!
That is an orb weaving spider!! They get huge and are so beautiful. They produce the strongest webs and can be used as stitches to close wounds! I hope it survives and becomes the new center piece spider!
We get a lot of species of them in my area. So gorgeous, and you KNOW when you accidentally walk into one. It's a markedly stronger silk than any I've ever seen. Beautiful spiders too, and I say that as an absolute arachnophobe. Used to feed them lots of crazy stuff when I was young. Watched one feed on an earthworm who couldn't escape once. Blew my mind. Earth worms are VERY strong for their size being basically just a massive living muscle in comparison to most insects, but he got overpowered by the largest orb weaver I'd ever had the pleasure of seeing. I of course had rules though. Tried to keep it "natural".

About the spider eating its silk: she's prrobably just cleaning her abdomen to either allow the silk to come out easier or just as a routine
Yep, spiders are rather fastidious with their grooming. Very much like cats that way.
Came here for this comment
Yeah it’s to make new silk . Sometimes they do it to discard their damaged silk
Could also be clearing out its spinneret ducts so it can switch between one type of silk and another.
It is common for spiders to eat their own web daily to recoup some of the energy used in spinning. Through ingestion and digestion, the silk proteins are thus recycled. - Google 🤷🏻♂️

Pitcher Plants require consistent moisture and high humidity in order to thrive. If they experience periods of dry soil or low humidity, their pitchers will die off as a way to preserve energy. By far one of my all time favorite channels
I am almost certain that the gnome ants are a subspecies of fire ant called electric ants. I had a colony in my back yard for a few years, but they didn’t seem to have the signature aggressive traits of other fire ant species. I wouldn’t worry too much about them, because they seemed content with foraging close to their nest entrance. That could be because there was a much larger Argentine ant colony near them that was possibly oppressing them or something.
Wow man that thing is absolutely beautiful. I’ve never seen anything like that.
Spiders eat their silk to not waste the nutrients. Spiders are constantly developing silk in their abdomen and the silk has some nutrients to help develop more silk. Instead of wasting it.
I predict there’s a desert ecosystem after this series

@AntsCanada at 9:45 you asked about the spider eating it’s silk, now I’m not a spider expert like you requested so take this with a grain of salt, but I believe that this allows the spiders to recycle their silk. They do make it, but this allows it to be reused and lets them be refueled so to say quicker.
It would be so cool to add some tiny small scorpion and see them glow...I think they are called wood scorpions
There's several things for identifying mushrooms you can provide in the next video if you want an ID.
Pick one of them and put the cap on a piece of paper overnight, gills down. It'll release spores on the paper and different mushrooms have different coloured spores, so that'll be a clue.
Does the mushroom bruise when touched? Does it change colour if you cut it? What does it smell like? Does the foot crumble or stay together when you pick it?
The colour reminds me of some types of Russula, but they don't have rings on the foot,
The wood saprobe species is Gymnopilus luteofolius. The other fungus showcased is a Lycoperdon species of some sort.
