The maples are beautiful, the Britannia’s are incredible. But the Krugerrand, just has something about it!! Very special!! Everyone should own Gold ! Thanks
I only own silver Krugs, but have a few gold maple leafs. I’ve been watching your videos and stacking for about a year (thanks for all the great info!). I started about 50/50 gold & silver (in dollar value), but shifted to mostly silver last year. One thing I have found out is that selling silver privately to others is a lot easier than selling gold and right now it’s easy to sell even generic rounds for $4-$5 over spot. I’m currently underwater on all the gold I bought, unless I could find someone who would pay $100 over spot for maples.
..... you’re not underwater, you’re floating on top of your stack. Most people don’t have any metals at all. That puts you ahead of the game over many. A shift in the way you’re looking at this will make you sleep easier at night. Just sayin. 😉
Silver is inferior to gold. It is taxed 20% in the UK - no point to buy as gold is 0% tax. Plus you need a mountain of silver for only a small bag of gold.
Here in Germany the Krugerrand is by far the most popular gold coin. Followed at some distance by the Canadian Maple Leaf and the Australian Kangaroo. No US coin is currently on the top 10 list. When it comes to beauty the Krugerrand is no match for a 24k coin in my opinion but when it comes to investment or wealth preservation it is absolutely a valid option. N my stack there are predominantly 24k coins in the 1oz category while the vast majority of the factional coins are either 22k Sovereigns, 23 2/3k Ducats or .900 Austrian Florins & Kronen.
I've always liked the Krugerrand. It's true that they're not the prettiest gold in the world but I'd take one of those over a panda any day of the week. In fact I have a couple myself. If I can get my hands on a cheap one I may add another to the stack soon. Thanks, sir! 👍🏻
Idk i bought a random year panda off of SD and got a 2013, i think i paid 1983 and at the time the 2013 value was 2111 or somewhere around there since they change the designs every year

I am an expat South African. Recently, my old city new where I grew up was Port Elizabeth. I say was as its name was suddenly been changed to Ggebertha. Due to the changing atmosphere in SA, I believe the Krugerrand because of its association with the past, I believe over the next ten years this name will be change for political reasons. This may result in a future premium and scaricity. Just a thought...
Dad had some Krugs back in the 80's, so SA gold is not "foreign" to me. Wonderful yet often overlooked; recent years were cheaper than other more popular options but prices are up there now on par with Maples. Cherry-picking key date gold Eagles and Pandas (date/variety collecting, NOT stacking) are popular...just starting to re build tubes of Krugs and a few Maples (damned fragile things). Great video!!!
You can get gold bars now at a better value. Provident metals offers a better buy back on them versus many coins. See valcambi or Argos. I support local coin stores but they are not always the best value. Great video love the Krugs. Keep up the good work.
The very best gold Krugerrands are the very earliest. 1967 through 1989. These 23 years are now highly sought after, are a little higher in price but resale value, as time goes on, will continue to increase.
Thanks, I did not know this. I have 11 total Krugs from '79-83. Most we recently purchased, and I didn't pay much of a premium at my LCS... I think I paid around $50 over spot. :)
The 1967 Krugerrand, first of its kind, is now the hardest to find. There was no competitor until 1979, when Canada first issued the gold Maple. Mintages of the Krug increased through the 1980s, compared to preceding decades. And of course, 1990 was the beginning of the end of good South Africa.
Is anyone buying Mexican gold Libertads? I just got my first half ounce 2018 regular not the proof, everybody seems to be buying the same stuff, not many people are opting for the gold Mexican libs. I only paid just over $1,000 for a 29 mm half ounce gold beauty libertad. I like Krugerrands but let's face it, gold is gold. Good video!
You didn't mention it explicitly, but in most European countries (and elsewhere in the world I suppose), you have to pay Value-Added Tax on bars and rounds. For France, Germany and the Scandinavian countries, that's like 15%-25% VAT. But legal tender like coins is exempt from VAT (since you're basically "buying money"). That makes a huge difference. The Krugerrand (or in the local language: "KROO-yer-RANT") is a classic, the grandfather of modern bullion coins. I would actually prefer 22 karat coins because I would not trust myself to handle a .9999 Au coin without stratching it. Plus, the unique fiery-gold colour really sets it apart in a stack.
Gold is out of my reach atm. I’ve only got one fractional but I focus more on silver anyway. I just scored a 4oz round for under spot 😎 it made my day!!
@@buschfunker1724 1/10 gold eagle proof is what I went with in hopes that the resale would be high so I could flip it into silver but as of now I’m still holding onto it, not worth the flip yet.
Yes krugerrands are 22ct because of copper added but they contain exactly 1oz of pure 24ct gold this is misleading to some its actually better as it gives the coin more durability the total weight of the coin is slightly more than 1oz factoring in the copper for strengthening, also every bullion dealer in the world recognises krugerrands as the best 1oz gold coin.
Love the Krugs. Have a few. Can't take them into NZ, Aust etc tax-free though the way I can Australian nuggets etc due to purity. Something to consider if you want to travel.
I love you and hate you 😂. Great minds think alike they say, but dang bro, I'm expecting a krug in the mail TOMORROW and I was going to make this identical video this week 😐. Nice job nonetheless 👍
I love the NEW Britannia's the best with it's superior security features and overall brilliance to look at. I believe this will grow increasingly more popular in time. I still want a Krug to have a well rounded stack.
Funny because the other day I was at the LCS and bought a Krugerrand that they had recently bought from a customer. They even ran it through the X-ray machine to show it was real. 91% AU.
I personally prefer the Austrian phil (I'm a sucker for the instruments) design but if I decided to buy gold I would buy the kuggerand over a maple or kangaroo.
Well I think any gold is awesome however traveling into Canada from the US anything under 95% is taxable at the boarder coming in or going out. So for me that put any coin under that as a no.
You got any current thoughts on platinum? Friday the 19th platinum had a $40 dollar drop at the open. It is an interesting PM to watch. Also I'm one of those guys who have to have 24k gold. The new security features on the 2021 Britannias currently make it my favorite gold.
I have been told to stay away from Krugs because there are a lot of fakes about so dealers are less likely to buy them back compared to a Britannia I’m based in the UK so would love feedback about stacking Krugs and future selling within the UK. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
So I pay 1840, and get 1735 + 3 when I sell it back? Do I have that right? Doesn't sound like such a great deal. So Gold has to go up by 5% just to break even. am I missin' something?
My favorite is the Buffalo followed by the Maples, then the Britannia. I live in Canada so I have to pay a 13% tax on non 24 k gold coins which makes Maples, Buffalos and Britannias much cheaper for me than Krugs or Eagles.
Same to a LCS but probably will get less $. To the average person out there, eagles are far more liquidable. Either way they all would sell, but since Krug's aren't the only thing out there, it doesn't mean that they are the most desirable because a simple test will show.
I’ve got a few of the Krugs’ albino cousins, but I’m still to get one of it’s famous golden sons. One reason is: not that common in Australia, and when they come up, then soon go!
Grandfather bought 33 of them back in the early 1980s he passed in 1995. We're still sitting on them. They seem to age very well.
If you had sold them on the day you got them and just bought a dow index fund and not touched it you would be 300% ahead of gold.

This is a story told to you by your friend about what his father did to get someone to help a fourth person. All agree, Fifth party stories can't be trusted. There is you, your friend, his father, the villagers, the patient. Who on youtube will believe that? Why are you saying Angolans are not caring people? I pity racist commenters.
@@DrSchor or - alternatively - a highly probable story in the context of its time. Also, there might be more in this world than the racism card. I doubt that every and all Ukrainians would help Russian soldiers. A conflict independent from race.
Yep, getting one of these is next on my list! Thanks so much for the channel and content.
This was a great value based presentation - appreciate the video
I prefer the Britannia and Canadian mint myself; They're 24k and have nice anti-counterfeit features which, I think, will preserve their value better in the long term over the Krugerrands and American eagle.
Bought my first couple of Krugerrand yesterday. Love them!
I was trying to explain to my wife why Krugs would be preferred over Eagles or Maple Leaves.
This video will make it easier.
Thanks, my stacking bro.
I own both gold and silver Krugerands. Got interested in them years ago after watching the first "Die Hard" movie.😏
Lol that movie also sparked my interest in them. I have several of them 1976, 77, 78 and other dates but the yrs mentioned I bought because in those yrs is when I went crazy over them but couldn't afford them because I was a kid but now, I can afford them and that's the reason for them dates lol!
Been on the fence on buying a Krugerrand. This video was what I needed to pull the trigger. Thanks SD, I think 😆
lol you are welcome my friend 🔥🐉
how do you know they are legit if you buy online?
@@schmingusss buy from a reputable site. Do your research about who’s legit and had the best reviews. Or, go to a shop that sells things like them and talk to them.
Me, just eyeballing that gold buffalo.
it's a bucket list coin for me.
lol they are epic coins for sure 🔥🐉

Buy the Buffalo. I own one It's my fav. You"ll never get tired of looking at it. Fun coin 👍
Buffalo's are my favorite. Easier to sell.
I like them as a memory. I remember them being advertised during the evening news when I was a kid. I have a 1/10 Oz so far.
They are wonderful! I love Krugerrand!
I love Buffalo’s, but a special place in my heart, exists for Krugerrands, the Krugerrand was my first Gold one ounce coin.
I think it’s a good idea,to buy a couple of each, of the popular coins.
Hie,How much is the Kruggerrand in Germany if I'm buying or selling?
I've always liked the Krugerrand. It's true that they're not the prettiest gold in the world but I'd take one of those over a panda any day of the week. In fact I have a couple myself. If I can get my hands on a cheap one I may add another to the stack soon. Thanks, sir! 👍🏻
Idk i bought a random year panda off of SD and got a 2013, i think i paid 1983 and at the time the 2013 value was 2111 or somewhere around there since they change the designs every year
during that dip around last year someone i know made a mad rush for all the fractional krugerrands that went up for sale very near in price to the depressed sprot. he is a happy man these days
Regarding 7:50, Gold Krugerrands were famous in the 1989 movie "Lethal Weapon 2" starring Mel Gibson and Danny Glover.
I recently bought my first 1oz gold coin and the Krugs were definitely less expensive, but I needed that 24k magic in the air.. lol
I recommend collecting at least 2 of every kind of gold there is, diversify like Noah's Ark. As far as testing gold just try and take a bite out of it, Like in the old westerns.🐴
What do you think happens when you bite a gold coin?
@@mmmmmark9751 leave a dent
@@rooone6588 no it's a common misunderstanding........gold is actually quite hard and virtually impossible to dent with teeth......gold plated lead coins on the other hand are easily dented by biting

I am a proud owner of a 1 /10 th ozt Krugerrand coin. It's my favorite one of the entire bunch I've currently been acquiring.
that is awesome keep on stacking my friend! 🔥🐉
Nice I picked up one also
I have a few 1/10 ozt Gold Krugerrands and a tube of silver ones. I have had my eye on a gold 1ozt. The prices right now make them appealing
I'm from Durban. I've wondered about this too. I won't be buying a "Mandela" rand no matter what.
Krugerrands are nice, durability is a plus.
I just bought two $5 commemoratives for $908 instead of one half oz for $980. I know it's total is .48 oz but the savings seems significant. Opinions?
What is the reason for the preference of the older Krugs?
@@tddstl3166 mintages
The 1967 Krugerrand, first of its kind, is now the hardest to find.
There was no competitor until 1979, when Canada first issued the gold Maple. Mintages of the Krug increased through the 1980s, compared to preceding decades.
And of course, 1990 was the beginning of the end of good South Africa.
I have my grandfather’s 1966 Gold Kruggerand. What’s the story behind this year? I can only find information from 1967 on.
Good video!
Great coins to buy and hold, low mintages and the proof versions immediately will go up in value due to extremely low mintages
Great Krug review SD....Love all the yellow stuff you were showing us. Congrats!!!
I own 10 1oz Krug's and I think they are great. Just bought 2 Britan's and think it's a good move.
Gold is out of my reach atm. I’ve only got one fractional but I focus more on silver anyway. I just scored a 4oz round for under spot 😎 it made my day!!
Some of my first coins were 1/10 Oz Gold Krugerrands.
@@buschfunker1724 1/10 gold eagle proof is what I went with in hopes that the resale would be high so I could flip it into silver but as of now I’m still holding onto it, not worth the flip yet.
I love krugerrands. Have some in gold some in silver. Also have the one from the first year they were made
So, the Krugs and the American gold eagle must weigh more than one ounce? If they contain impurities.
Their total weight is 1.0909 troy oz. because of 1 ozt gold and the rest is what they added to prevent scratching. A maple will weigh 1 ozt exactly.
I bought these back in the day for about $250. Shows how much inflation has taken place.
@@edb3877 Yes, I could go further back. Around 1964 a BU US $20 could be had at a mall coin shop for $50.
@@edb3877 I'm pretty sure that $50 price I remember is correct. That mall was built in 1956, one of the first in the nation.
Great video. Enjoyed the history lesson and price comparison of all 3 gold coins. Definitely one of your best videos.
Love the Krugs. Have a few. Can't take them into NZ, Aust etc tax-free though the way I can Australian nuggets etc due to purity. Something to consider if you want to travel.
Maple is only $2 more right now. If it brought better premium, that would be the buy. Things always change.
91% AU.
How much was it? 1oz?
@@CheeduldStudio $2224 Canadian Dollars. I believe that is about 1779 American.
Have some smaller fractionals. A 2 Rand, 2-1Rands & 10gr Rand bar. Hope to get at least a 1/2 oz Krug.
My first gold purchase was a Krug. I'ts my favorite as I now stack the silver krug.
@@anxiousstacker7945 Anti counterfeit features is probably a better term
Every time I hear about Krugs I can't help think of Lethal weapon 2...lol
I heard Krugerrand will make a distinctive sound when struck by a metal object while on the tip of your finger.
Absolutely lovely, have to pick some up myself
I have been told to stay away from Krugs because there are a lot of fakes about so dealers are less likely to buy them back compared to a Britannia
I’m based in the UK so would love feedback about stacking Krugs and future selling within the UK.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
with a little bit of experience fakes become relatively easy to spot,
There are also silver Kruger options available nowadays. Diversification is the only real hedge against inflation.
Love the Krugerrands!
I like the Krugerrands. Have a 1/10th and a 1oz in a depository.
I have mine in a suppository
The real question and ONLY question i would have about buying Gold Krug's is how does their liquidity compare to Gold Eagle's or Buffalo's?
Same to a LCS but probably will get less $.
To the average person out there, eagles are far more liquidable.
Either way they all would sell, but since Krug's aren't the only thing out there, it doesn't mean that they are the most desirable because a simple test will show.
I have the Kurgerrand, but I do really like the 24K stuff, the Maple, buffalo, and all that. Really enjoyed the video. Thanks Silver Dragons.
What's your thoughts on buying gold nuggets??? Can't afford the more expensive coins
Plaster gold is a good way to avoid paying over price and it os still gold. If you buy go for Australian or Alaskan gold as it will be higher purity

Great video Silver Dragons! Very good point on the pay backs!
I bought 7 for $600 each, back in '06. I'm sick that I didn't buy 10 more. Ironically, NOBODY was recommending buying bullion back then.
I have some of those. They are ok. My fav coin to date, is the Austria 100 corona.
Bought my first 1 oz Krug yesterday! I fell better about my purchase now 😂
I’ve got a few of the Krugs’ albino cousins, but I’m still to get one of it’s famous golden sons. One reason is: not that common in Australia, and when they come up, then soon go!

At some point we won't be trading gold coins for dollars. Think necessities - food, fuel, shelter. Is bitcoin a necessity?
