Small correction: We imply that the Chaos Androids would have been on one of the longer Epic bases (since that's the only ones we have) but in that time period they would have been on the earlier square bases. I hope you can forgive us for this grave misdeed.

It's blows my mind that there was a time where GW encouraged scratch-building a whole model.
Well they still kinda encourage you to scratch build with Orks seeing that there are so many surplus parts in the kits.
Dave Haskell you still have to buy a model or two to have those bits in the first place though
@@jordinagel1184 Well of coarse not 100% scratch built, this is current James Workshop we'r talking about here.
The original Rogue Trader rule book strongly encouraged this and showed that you could create a gravtank with a couple of plastic spoons, an empty deodorant applicator, and some parts from Zoids. Needless to say, almost all of the vehicular models in Rogue Trader were scratch built and almost all of them had an astonishing array of Zoids parts.
@@zipherdias420 Nids too my man.
So Necrons started out as a Chaos Squat's walking toaster, but my lovely noble stunty friends had to get eaten by bugs?
There is no justice in the world.
THICC
Whos to say them chaos androids wernt "iron men"
I've never been interested in the squats, to be honest. I don't think dwarves have much place in WH40k.
@@k-leb4671 plus there's already the Demiurg, who I'd argue are a more interesting race of space-dwarves.
Well i bet you feel happier since April the 2nd 2022
"you specifically, David"
I admit, I nearly spat tea over my keyboard at that. I need to see if I can get a sound bite of that and use it as a text alert.
You aren't the only one. I had to pause for i nearly had a heart attack.
Sad thing was I was painting my Spookibois while watching this for the first time, which made me realize that I might want to make my Spookibois look a bit more different.
Thanks Snipe and Wib for giving me a heart attack and showing me that not everything is metallics
It haunts me, particularly because although my first name isn't David, my middle name is.
Same
"You may laugh now"
Trust me, I very much did so.
yes indeed, behold my laughter
*ha*
laughter achieved.
I just blinked like they did.
Laughing modules activated.
Laughter procedure indicated.
"I'm not your dad. Yet..." -Wib 2019
Also pretty hype to see a new model retrospective.
Scott Piazza wib is getting quite cheeky isn’t he 🤨
I'm hyped.
Does this mean we get backdated pocket money?
Fun Fact:
The song in the transitions is “Dance of the Cryptek” from the game Mechanicus
8:48 "Through that they may live forever in our hearts." *laughs in Ultimate Apocalypse*
Plus in UA there's also other variants of them so that's awesome
@@cursedfate838 and the Death Lord Hero !
@@cursedfate838 Actually that's where they lost me. I don't understand the Pariah variants in Ultimate Apocalypse...as in, why they exist.
10:39 I believe from a lore standpoint that the one eye, or monocular, has more sensors and can be specialized for specific purposes. For instance, Orikan the Diviner has a monocular that apparently allows him to see the movements of planets and stars, as it is required for being a chronomancer.
I'd love to see a similar episode for the tyranids.
Of the remaining factions, probably would be the only one there with marines that'd have ta significant variation to compare/contrast to. Most the other big factions, beyond like demons, are only 2 or so evolutions in em.
“Chaos Squats”
*Triggered Krieg Gas Mask noises*
#puthashutin40k
Yea as someone whos new to warhammer can someone explain why squats are 'hated' by krieg?
@@wandowander9360 as someone not new to warhammer, no fucking clue
We need a video of you guys just playing Space Crusade, how has this not happened yet?!
Also, there's a parallel universe where they never changed their names and GW recently released the 8th Edition Codex Chaos Androids
which means, that in that universe, the squats are still alive
I would resub for that.
"Some bloke chilling in his flying recliner" don't exactly know why but that killed me
“Greetings Chaos Squats”
Too soon 😢
Btw, will we ever get a Squats video?
Squats kick ass!
Good news!
I know you mentioned that you’d never be able to mention the scratch building a band blade, but I’d love to see a video on the culture of scratch building back in the day.
Culture of scratchbuilding is alive and well
6:15 -- Hail Assholetep, the best Space Tomb King!
>Assholetep is one of the few remaining Lords wearing the original attire
>Always made fun of
>Goes around blowing up other sleeping Tomb Worlds out of spite
12:00 -- He's a patron and you didn't mention him? Oh, this is gonna get messy...
Yep, he’s gonna zorch us all...what an ansshole.
Woah, woooah, slow down there, as a Guard player you had me at “scratch build a bane blade”
"Satisfyingly chunky"
I'm holding onto that one.
I saw the joke coming, thought "it can't be that sad"...
I was wrong.
Hope we get an Eldar one of these as they have a great lineage I think.
'This is the original model released in 1995.... And its also still the current model.'
well the eldar are actually getting new models right about now, so they'd have to wait a bit more before making a video on that
The old Armorcast Falcons, aye
"In the beginning were Jes Goodwin Eldar sculpts" and, as of 2019, they have not yet been improved upon.
Another great Codex Compliant. I actually really like these model line retrospectives, they are a nice change of pace from time to time. Are there any other model lines you guys were considering?
I love your pfp, by the way
@@c.alexander4199 Ay, thanks. I call it "goals".
I hate your profile picture
Those 3rd Edition Immortals look amazing
That’s a nice Necron video you got there. Would be a shame if someone were to... release a new range
tyranids next? i feel as though they have had the most drastic redesign.
Yes ! Necrons !
GW you cowards, bring back the Pariahs !
And old lore of necrons
A new codex compliant the best birthday present i've recieved today. Thanks guys
I really love the chemistry between both of you. Outstanding channel!
I heard those little tidbits from the Mechanicus soundtrack and I approve. That music is awesome.
"You may laugh now"
You cant tell me what to do, you are no my dad....yet.
Loved this vid! Issue 217 was the first WD I ever bought, so Necrons had a special place in my heart. When they released the first Codex, they were my main 40K army. I never played the most recent editions post-2007 so didn't know the Lore had changed. Thanks for a lovely look down metallic soullness lane x
Ahh I see you used the Mechanicus music. Good choice
I'd be interested in seeing a Tyranid video like this! Those older models were gloriously goofy...
Nice video. Just to point it out back in 2002 wraiths, heavy destroyers and destroyer lords were also released.
Fascinating information and C64 music, this playlist has it all and I love it!
As a Necron player this is the video I wanted but don't know I needed, thanks :)
Great nostalgic look back. ☺️
As cool as the present day Necrons look, I wish they had stopped adding to the army in 3rd ed. The simplicity, and lore behind them (being mindlessly controlled by the C'tan, the 'Masters of the Material Universe', was much cooler than the 'C'tan are shattered into slaves' idea) was much more interesting, and made them feel like much more of a divergence from the rest of the bloated armies of 40k. That said, this was a really fun retrospective. I love the epic Chaos androids made an appearance. Can't wait till you talk about Trolls in 40k, and show the epic chaos troll models. lol!
Love your guys codex compliant series. You two are great.
Mechanicus soundtrack in the intermezzos - pretty spot on!
"I'm not your dad... Yet!" 😂😂😂 You guys are great. Thank you for all the work you put in your videos ❤
My only peeve with the Necron vehicles is that they are commanded by Necrons, instead of being semi-sentient objects of living metal. That's what's so unique about the monolith, it just moves on its own (or looks like it) instead of being controlled by a guy with a joy-stick. They have giant spider walkers called Triarch Stalkers now, and for some reason they have a pilot on top? Instead of just being an even bigger self reliant tomb spider. But that's just me, they're still pretty neat to say the least.
That White Dwarf with the free Necron blister pack was was the first issue I ever bought.
Still got it somewhere.
Also included the Praetorian Guard, some photos from Gamesday (also my first) and a rather good battle report between Undead and Beastmen.
Thank you for this rather pleasant jaunt down memory lane!
nice video and well done digging up all those old models!
First video I've ever seen on necrons. Finally someone talks about these badasses
Oldcrons were quite the colorful bunch back in the beginning.
This recorded visual message was delivered to you via the numeral 4 and the characters S O I
SOISOISOISOISOISOISOISOISOISOISOISOISOISOISOI
Great video, Snipe and Wib! You guys are awesome! :D
I legit have trauma from the green rod era! Those wankers were so spindly, the Monolith crystal was poorly cast, and mine never actually fit together properly; the store wouldn't give me a replacement either, and the green rod was so limiting most other players I knew just painted over it!
We've come a long way, now with another phase of models the Necron range ha truly evolved into something new
Really like these retrospectives. A Tyranid one would be cool
Just btw: That Marine at 2:41 is absolutely gorgeous.
Looking forward to the next monthly mini-output- video, too.
ANd of course, I like this one very much.
2:41
Nice, I own the first and second gen (the latter only one model), thanks for making this and the blast from the past.
This is the best breakdown of the Necron line of seen.
5:06 That army shot is glorious. I wish I could get my hands on those Immortals. They practically scream Terminator. Beautiful.
Omg dat Amiga space crusade music
As a David, I own and have painted 0 Necrons but I do sort of have a colour scheme in mind for if I did want to, weirdly enough. Got a lot of Guardsmen, Lizardmen, Sisters of Battle and maybe Orks to do before that though.
Great vid!!!! Love the background music btw, familiar somehow ;)
3:54 I'm shocked that anyone could paint that small jesus
Aaaah! The Scarab autopsy was something I wanted to talk about because I played a couple of games when that one was releasted.
You should have shown the current modells in detail.
Just imagine if they change the designs again. Then your channel could function as a time machine :)
Yeah it'd be nice if people would be more inclined to future proof their videos.
I still digged this, thumbs up for S&W. Just a bit of feedback on an otherwise cool video.
Necrons are the coolest thing to ever hit my display case
Possibly one of my favourite video you two did.....dad!
Codex compliment on old models, best thing on the internet so far.
Love Space Crusade - have 4 copies of it for some reason
Another great video to visit again and again :D
Another excellent retro perspective vid! I have never been a Necron fan but seeing the models side by side was a bit jarring on the changes wrought on them. Yet, Primaris aside, most Marines are, well, Marines from start to finish. Same for the Eldar, though to a lesser extent.
While I was expecting chaos space marines to follow up with the og space marines, this video is still great
Roll out?
I still call reanimation the "We'll be back" roll.
That old school Destroyer makes me think of Professor Farnsworth from the Futurama episode "Roswell that ends well".
My name is David and I've just started painting my necrons.... Guess what bit of this video gave me a mini heart attack
and when are you going to be my dad?
Soon.
@@lcmiracle well I do love my some thy daddy... so that can work to.
@@lcmiracle Thigh daddy?
THICCCCC DADDY !
What's a Skeleton's favorite food? Ribs
Ayy i'm special! First in the queue for a new vid is a good feeling.
this was deliciously niche and incredibly interesting
This is my 3rd time watching this video and it gets better everytime
Those good old Immortals, the modern ones doesn't hold a candle to them. Chunky and cool.
That Detective joke can surely put a smile on any Necron warriors...
That rainbow llama next to the pumpkin :D Scaaary OooOoOooctober! :D
As usual. Great job on the video.
I imagine the necron raiders were just the failed prototypes of normal necrons but weren't discarded, and that they woke up extra early to scout the galaxy.
These videos are amazing...
Fun to learn about my chosen faction!
the flayed ones would be the best "counts as" chaos spawn. metal . awesome sculpts.
The clear plastic rod 2002 necrons have a charm that the new necrons fail to capture.
Wouldn't be a true necrons video without a reference to dark crusade
Fuck yeah I love these "retrospective" vids. I love oldschool 40k stuff (missed it all since I didn't get into it until 7th) but I remember looking at it in awe throughout my childhood every time I got to visit a GW store when my family took me to the mall Thanks for making these anyway. Hopefully one day you will cover nids?!
After hearing the joke at the end, I became as Necrons; my soul consumed by incoherent alien gods, and my body left as but a husk, devoid of life and will, made a puppet, the strings of whom are pulled by fate's machinations...
I built that baneblade! Also converted a second into a shadowsword.... then built myself a half dozen Rhinos by measuring up my friends "real" one 😁
found this on the day i finally finish my first box of immortals
i had to have another look at the currently available necrons thanks to this video
Looks like we’ll need a part 2!
Flight stands give me flash backs to playing tyranids and having two squads of metal gargoyles
Okay...that Sherlock Bones joke made me laugh to hard. Thank you, you glorious bastards.
Question, all this talk of space dwarfs has me hyped for a Squats video. Might we have one please?
Considering my birth was a few years before the 90s ended , and he necron came out in 02, that makes me older then the necron . There for , I am a old one !
Those old metal necrons look so fucking cool
I would not mind an updated video for this Retrospective, more Necrons to cover!
Love necrons, and the video!
Crazy how there now has been another redesign of the faction with 9th edition, its one of the factions with the most changes
Wow, Necrons are way later additions that I would have thought.
Headcanon: Space Crusade "Chaos Androids" were Necrons captured and reprogrammed by Chaos Sorcerors using Warp Magic. Like the Dreadnaughts.
Never head of this channel and the video is will made for the history of the mini. How can I destroy the like button
The cloaks really remind me of the “Replicators” from the Stargate SG-1 TV show.
Alright but who else loves the old destroyer model, compared to the new one?! I’ve never seen that before and will now attempt to buy them online.
