the "it keeps happening" on the stairs could be a reference to sweet bro and hella jeffs first comic, where one of the characters falls down the stairs with "it keeps happening" on them falling
I’m fairly certain the stairs are reference to the stairs in US national parks that when people climb up them, they go missing edit im thinking of the stairs at the edge of the map my bad
man i remember really early some guys in the discord were trying to blow up jerry cans to force the key into the hole, that was awesome. i haven't really checked up on the tutorial (or been active in the discord thread recently) but theres a lot more to the secret... whatever thats going on in the tutorial, but as of right now i think people are saying its still unfinished, or just way more cryptic and cruel than we even know
In the starting room, behind you, up, and to the right, there is a tile that you can press which opens a key slot. You can then insert the key into the slot and turn it. This opens a small door under the balcony in the water. You can then swim through the water and find a grate to the right which appears to have a hole in it, not sure how to get into there. You can then swim upwards and crawl through another tunnel where there is a message and a metal grate. You can break the grate with the crowbar by hitting it ~10 times. You can crawl through the opened tunnel and find a ladder, and two more grates, but as before I'm not sure if they can be broken. The grate to the right has a secret message behind it, and the one to the left appears to split off to the left and right. There appears to be a hand or something to the left. Climbing up the ladder brings you to another room. You can ragdoll jump up the ledge and at the end there is a note and a door. I haven't figured out how to get further than this. I have tried using the gas can and crowbar on the door as well as the other grates. I'm sure there are secret notes hidden in some of the rooms, but i haven't found any. *EDIT: The Discord server has a thread in the e-votv-spoilers channel called Tutorial ARG that has probably all of the secrets discovered by now. Seems there is no current way to open the door or break the grates.
So the real keyhole has been found there is a secret panel in the very first room you spawn in behind you above your head in the wall when you click on it it opens up revealing a key hole that can be used to open the grate in the third room with the balcony. Using the chair you can climb through the hole but dr nose said that this was not the intended way and he plans to patch out the chair gitch. Also if you press period on your numpad it teleports you to a different room. With a lot of strange stuff in it. There was also found to be a hallway meant only for patroen backers of the game with different rooms for people who pledged to the dev. But it was found using the chair glitch.
I feel like a number of things (including the hidden texts) are references. Some are to media (someone pointed out the SBAHJ comic. Which makes me wonder if anything fun happens if you ragdoll those stairs), others are possibly relating to VOTV's story, or the dev's other games. I'm not sure if this game is canonically linked to the other games, but iirc, the dev does like linked universe stuff.
Relating to that UFO, [spoilers for sandbox mode] [you good?] The UFO, As seen here, is actually used for apart of the signal finder [?] Or the new Telescope, I'm not sure as to which one it is, but it's definitely one of those.
There's a vent cover in the pool area that makes the right sound if you throw something at it. Gotta wonder if you can remove it. Update: It can be broken but I can't get up to it to inspect if it goes anywhere. Ideas needed.

in the pool room with the computer you can throw a gas can at the vent near the ceiling to blow it up, but i can't see if there's anything in there.

it was found in version [0.6.1] another keyhole to which the key fits
