My grandma’s one from Tennessee one from Alabama. Grew up eating like this. So did my kids. Soooo Good. My wife if from the north but she loves beans and cornbread. Collard greens and turnips. When my sister n law comes down I have to cook her a good southern dinner. Usually, beans, collards snd turnips, fried potatoes with onion and hot water cornbread. Yum. Makes me hungry.

My Aunt was from Appalachia, she made cornmeal gravy. I only had it once but have never forgot how good it was and I'm now 70. I've tried to make it myself but haven't succeeded. I'm going to try your recipe and I'm sure it will be spot on. She always used with canned milk in her house and bacon fat. But the cornmeal mix is probably what I'm missing. Thank you for the recipe.

Love wilted lettuce my favorite meal is soup beans with pork hocks , wilted lettuce with bacon and onions ( we made the wilting dressing by pouring apple cider vinegar into hot bacon grease and lots of black pepper)and lacey cornbread
