    Great advice Keisha, I have been doing this for years as I’m an avid spinner. The only difference is I use sweat wick headbands because I sweat profusely, I use sweaty bands or bondi bands they help tremendously and work better than regular headbands. I literally have to change clothes before I leave the gym because they’re that soaked. When I’m done I tie a dry scarf to soak up the sweat then place a new dry headband and leave it until my hair dries. Believe it or not it doesn’t take long to dry because your hair isn’t covered, it just stays in the ponytail until dries and your retwist will definitely last. Hope this helps a bit.

    We as black women have to stop letting our hair keep us from being healthy... im glad u made this video because a lot of ppl just wont exercise to save a hairdo... i just won't retwist and do a braid out or twist out with my locs so it wont matter if i sweat or not, then I'll spritz my hair with a water mixture of peppermint oil, olive oil and lime juice.... going natural should inspire us to live healthier... not avoid exercising...

    Perfect timing. I am 3 months into my loc journey and got a fresh retwist yesterday. I love working out... but I also want my retwists to last a bit longer....think I will try this!

    2 words Bondi Bands.. I sweat profusely due to my water intake and the intensity of my workouts. The amount of sweat they hold are unreal! They have different sized bands as well and keep my retwist in place. My locs aren't as long as yours so I find myself pulling my hair into two ponytails split down the middle. Works great for me...

    Great advice! When I workout I wear a black silk scarf (that i only use for working out) and put a hat on to soak up excess sweat. And when i'm don't with my workout I immediately take those off and put a stocking cap so it's not the residual sweat from my scarf that I'm waiting for to dry

    I interloc my hair, it helps with my new workout routine. I only do it every 3 to 4 months and I think that is why I don't get the thinning, I hear that a lot. If i want the clean look between time I do a twist out or something like that. I love your videos!

    When I was exercising at the bodybuilding level I was in the first 5 years of beginning my locs. At that time I would wear a sports headband (rarely) otherwise, I fully maintained my locs the first year, 1x/week! Yep, I did and had NO issues! My hair is naturally very thick. Instead of having my stylist twist the root only, I asked her to twist all the way through each loc.
    The 2nd year I began going every 2 weeks. When I stopped high level exercising in my 6th year, I moved to every 3 weeks. When I had to stop exercising completely, I went 4-6 weeks.
    Spinning is the worst for my scalp in terms of sweating but what helps is the a/c is blasting during class AND I only wear full bike riding gear.

    I thought interlocking would work for my hair since I work out and now I’m left with thin locs my second time around. Cap, a scalp refresher and palm rolls from now on

    Hey Keisha
    dry shampoo is a good idea, does it get stick in the locks?
    How about micellar water or refresher spray on cotton ball to clean the scalp post workout?

  • @luhvleeladii
    @luhvleeladii 7 років тому +1

    Love this idea. Question, how often would you wash then, if you work out regularly? And would you retwist each wash? Sorry another question, would it be a bad idea to rinse your head under water after a workout with the cap on, to kind of rinse the sweat out or would that not work? Thanks! 💜

    • @KeishaCharmaine
      @KeishaCharmaine  7 років тому

      DiscoveringMe_Queen I would still wash and twist it every 2weeks. Rinsing it with the cap would help get some sweat out but you might as well take the cap off because I wouldn’t advise anyone to keep the cap on after doing that to save a retwist. That will encourage mildew.

    Hi. Do you still sell lock wraps? When I first started my loc journey I saw that you were selling really pretty material to wrap Locs and I knew that was my head finally locked I would buy some. I hope you still sell them if so what's the website?

  • @marciajohnson1825

    Hi Keisha great topic. A question. What do you with your locs that are hanging down your back? Do you tuck them into the cap too? I haven't been able to exercise for a few years now because of an accident I had. I've had Sisterlocks installed since then and am now looking forward to slowly resuming a workout routine this summer. When I used to workout (with mid back length relaxed hair) I used to have to wear a sweat band around my head and a pair on my wrists because I would sweat for England all over my body, but especially from my head. I would tie and secure my hair up and off my neck etc with a scrunchie then put on a headband. I do like that idea of wearing a stocking cap but not keen on having my locs getting wet from the sweat pouring down my neck, shoulders and back. Grateful for any advice you may have to offer. Thanks in advance and sending much love xxx

    • @KeishaCharmaine
      @KeishaCharmaine  7 років тому +1

      Marcia Johnson I just put them in a ponytail off my neck. It doesn’t bother my back, I wear a shirt and that’s fine in my experience

    • @marciajohnson1825
      @marciajohnson1825 7 років тому

      Keisha Charmaine thanks for the quick response. Ok that's good to know. Locs feel heavier so I should imagine that would be quite uncomfortable to secure with bands and pins etc xxx

    • @KeishaCharmaine
      @KeishaCharmaine  7 років тому +1

      Marcia Johnson no pins, just a good sized ponytail holder exactly how I’m wearing my hair in the video. Low ponytails don’t feel heavy and they are convenient if you use machines at the gym where you must lay your head onto the headrests.

    • @marciajohnson1825
      @marciajohnson1825 7 років тому

      Keisha Charmaine yes of course! I totally forgot about the machines and their headrests! Thanks for the reminder.

    Hi Keisha! I have a question...What do you use for dandruff? I tried using tea tree oil and anti- dandruff shampoo, but that works for a few days (after wash) and then it’s back to the flakes.. so annoying!
    Any recommendations? Thanks!

    I never thought that this topic was complex. Place hair in Ponytail and rinse off with the ponytail and let hair dry in ponytail adjusting the position to let it dry and that’s it. Shampoo every couple of days just like normal hair. The key is keep the tension and retwist can stay in tact. Pig tails and Braiding your locs also work (you can shampoo with the braids in if you must) etc. Keisha is awesome for suggesting the stocking particularly for hair that can’t reach ponytail, braids,or pigtails.

    • @KeishaCharmaine
      @KeishaCharmaine  7 років тому +17

      veronica 8119 “shampoo every couple days just like normal hair”? Most afro textured loc wearers definitely do not normally shampoo every couple days. If that were the case this video surely wouldn’t be needed.
