Chevy HVAC Actuators Not Working

- After a hot trip home the vent selector would't change where the air was coming out of. After doing some research it turns out the HVAC system is having some troubles. Turns out that the actuators go out pretty frequently and are relatively easy to fix. There are four of the same actuators that control the whole HVAC system. One is under the drivers side near where your right knee would sit. Theater three are on the passenger side where your left knee would sit

"MY MAN"! Thank you so very much for taking the time to hook the rest of us up! This issue is exactly what is happening with my 2011 Chevy Traverse. I do get cold/warm air, just not through all front facing vents. So, it does sound like this bend actuator needs to be replaced, all of $16.00 and a little of my time.
Heck yeah you got this
I now have another question. Yes Open my bend door actuator was toast. The new one came with the actuator not straight alined. I installed it and let it calibrate itself. Now all my front facing vents are in fact working and having air come through them. However, when I adjust the different setting it will only blow air through the front facing vents. Not to defrost, bottom leg vents. I saw the actuator calibrate itself but now no adjustment.
Did the actuator have to be centered before putting it in place? Did I have to move the door selector before lining up actuator?

Thank you for posting this video. I have a different model vehicle, but the video helped me resolve my issue and it works perfectly. These cars are not built for people with larger hands.
Thank you for the very thorough video. I replace my actuator that controls the direction of the flow of air in my 2011 Buick Enclave. The new actuator did not work. So, I pulled & re-installed the same fuses you indicated, and everything is working as it should.
Only one simple comment. You are a genius and no wonder the world is a place to live because of people like you. Thank you for the info. I have Buick Enclave and it seems the driver side vent actuator locked up because of the battery drained to 2 vdc. I attempted to no avail but now after watching you video I understand the problem. I had a new actuator, not installed but connected. I tried to change vent position by selecting face, foot, and defrost but the actuator (the ring with two notches) did not move; that tells me the ac module is not sending the signals. Any advise? Thank you in advance. Also what i would do is to stick a fine paper strip with a tape on these vent to visually see them. I liked the way you synchronize your adjustment with what computer thinks...:)
Excellent video. Allowed me to change out the actuator with confidence. It's working great now. Thank you.
Bro thanks. We got 2016, so freaking helpful. Bless
I would just like to say thank you so very much. Your video was exactly what I needed. Step by step. I was able to order the part and fix my Dads 2012 Chevy Traverse. Saved a ton of money. It had the exact same problem. Great work and thanks again from Ontario Canada!
Thank you for the comment Im glad hat it helped you out. Have an amazing day
Thanks for the video it helped me diagnose the problems and I was able to solve it by soldering a new resistor and worked like a charm!
Way to go that’s cool all it was was a resister
The step by step instructions were very helpful
THANKS BRO VERY INFORMATIVE I HAVE NO AIR COMING OUT OF NO VENTS GONNA CHECK ALL THE FUSES THANK S AGAIN !
OMG, the 1/4" drive to the magnetic extension tip was mind blown moment for me... thank you!
Great video, thank you. Just a couple questions…did you say it self calibrates? So just set it in properly and it will do it’s thing? Just want to make sure I understand correctly.
Damn, putting Herb on blast like that 😂
We all know he does better work than this. A little disappointed in him on this one
Same exact problem. Thank you!
I appreciate the video bro thanks
Thank you for posting this video
Is there a way to determine what actuator went out? I know the one you removed had a bad resistor, but did you just get lucky and that was the easiest one to remove so you checked that one first? I am just trying to avoid having to access/remove the other ones if those are causing the issue.
Each actuator has its own unique job. For instance,, if your hot to cold selector is not working then you want to check the actuator that moves the blend door. You should be able to google which actuator does what and where its located for your model car.
What year and model is your vehicle?
Mebbe too late, but hope you kept the OEM final gear so when that new Chino (Nylon) gear wimps out, you can swap them.....
I spent 4 hours today and tried everything but it did not resolve the issue. Drivers side hot, passenger side working just fine. I set the actuator to middle point and as soon as I turn the ignition on the actuator moves up to the top mark, moving clockwise. So ok. Without starting the car I turn on the "auto" and turn off the ignition. Removed the battery ground for 2 min. and then restarted the car. Display shows 23C (16c to 31 c) min and max. lights changes and it seems initialization is in action. While this was happening I watch the driver side actuator . It did not move at all. Stuck to the hottest setting. This was for few minutes. Then I turn off the ignition and restarted in 20 sec. Nothing happened. The driver side actuator is stuck. So I removed the connector and used external 9 volts to move the actuator to the coolest point. Moved anticlockwise to the lower mark. Never connected the connector. Now I get cold air because it is hot in Canada 29C to 31C. I am suspecting the digital module maybe bad. The actuator moves to one direction only with two wires, but with three wires it should move to lower mark. I don't know where the problem is. I will dig out some more and seek your advise as well. But your video was very informative. Thank you again.
Oh man sounds like you have a little seam on in there somewhere. It’s really hard to diagnose without having it in my hands but I will do my best keep me updated
I’m having the same problem. New actuator installed on the drivers heat blend door, when I turn the ignition on it rotates clockwise to full hot. Removed and centered with a 9V battery. Installed and again it goes full hot. Not sure what to do now.
@@joeleiterman2606 Let the car center itself. I believe it does a self check to make sure its in the right position. Keep me posted I might be able to help you out over the web.
@@joeleiterman2606 Good call on the 9V to move the actuator
Thanks!
Ain’t there a dam way to turn it for now while it’s mounted. I need defrost and it’s stuck on face vent. Mail sucks right now! I have to take my kid to school and go to work.
the easiest way is going to be to remove the module completely. Set the valve to the right mode or where you want the air to come out and don't install the module back. you might bet a check engine light but at least you will be warm and defrosted.
If it won't stay in that position, use some strong tape to hold it. Like Gorilla tape.
Don't buy Chevy any more.
Every car uses a similar system.
Too much unnecessary chatter.
Go right to the removal and reinstall in the future. Don't waste people's time.
