Im still so upset over the booriginal creeproduction monster high dolls. Only one Walmart around me got them. And the employees bought all of them before they were ever put out on shelves. I also hate hate hateeee how monster high is becoming this money hungry market. Like people buying 98 of the same doll to sell..like come on girl its a chunk of plastic…not some rare one of a kind gem. I love monster high with my whole heart but its hard to even continue collecting them when people buy them all out in seconds And sell them for Outrageous prices. Like the doll is never going to be worth that much money in its life.

I am personally thrilled that Monster High is doing reproductions. I was never allowed to have them as a kid, so now that I am an adult with my own money I am looking to buy them. However, the second-hand prices right now are OBSCENE! But my case is very specific, so I am glad that there will also be a reboot. (I just hope that the reboot features the edgy designs and more mature faces/makeup that made monster high so interesting. I also hope that there will be new fun characters!)

It really feels like when Netflix makes a new show and they cancel it 2 seasons in because it “fails”. but they never promoted it or showed it on the front page, so you only hear about it after it’s dead :/

It sucks because the new dolls release is delayed everywhere in europe (as far as I'm aware) and the skullector dolls are very much 30-40 dollar quality, not 75 dollar quality. Like if I buy a skullector doll it will end up costing me 200 dollars instead because of the extra shipping, taxes, etc which is ridiculous.

I feel like mattel has made a lot of short burst brands lately like wild hearts, cave club and creatable world. BEGGING them to invest in monster high than more than a single year/just a couple releases. As a playline collector mainly its important that these lines last a little while so i can actually find them on shelves.

Mattel wants to play in both parks, they want to maintain the adult monster high audience with the skullector, collector and creeproductions, but they also want to reboot the series and target it towards children bc they that’ll sell, which is so ridiculous to me bc 1. It didn’t work the last time they did it and 2. Most of monster highs fan base are adult collectors, so theyre simultaneously trying to pander to us but they also just want to reboot the series and pander to children and they can’t just do the reboot and be done bc they know we’ll get mad bc the designs aren’t like the originals, I don’t particularly care, Draculauras the only cute one imo, but most ppl that are huge fans of the series’ og aesthetic aren’t going to like it

Im not sure if i agree because the problem with g2 was the lack of care and acknowlegement of g1 fans that loved monster high for how daring and deep g1 was and how g2 took most of that away with storylines being less mature and the quality and detail lacking on a lot of lines and i feel like with g3 its diffrent where the creative team is kinda fighting for us bringing back g1 for older audiences and hardcore but also trying to create something meaningful for younger audiences .

You're 100% correct about a lot of companies listening to "boys toy" collectors but not "girls toy" collectors. Like how G4 MLP grew a huge male fanbase compared to G1-G3 and MLP started creating toys directed towards them like the Stranger Things collaboration. Same with LEGO who creates sets that are "18+" for the sole reason of marketing to collectors. MGA is one of the only "girls toy" brands who appeals to collectors.

I want to add about releasing unreleased concepts: Mattel has another example of this with the Thomas And Friends series. For the 70th anniversary, they released a 2 pack for the Thomas Wooden Railway where they had a Thomas in the future, where his color scheme is changed to gold and pastels. The other Thomas is a blast from the past where they recreated the Thomas that RW Awdry (the creator of Thomas) created for his son where Thomas was a massively different engine then what we know. So they can clearly release unreleased dolls, but it seems like they don’t trust their female audience. Both the brand you mentioned and Thomas and friends have a mainly male audience. I just wanted to add that.

If it’s true if dolls are shipping out I’m highly concerned. I knew the second they didn’t even show anything new from G3 at SDCC that this wasn’t going to do well.
It’s quite crazy that they didn’t even show some type of prototypes. A lot of things were shown from Mattel for example WWE and they only had rendered pictures of what was coming out, all grey and didn’t show everything they would come with.
I have noticed with some products that have come out is that 1) they came out in store before they were intended to and 2) they didn’t show anything and they suddenly showed up in store.
This will probably be the case but the only difference is that they were established brands that have been in store for a while.
When something new does come out for shows/movies for the past few years merchandise is always on shelf before the show/movie comes out. Good examples is Stranger Things and Jurassic World.
MH does have a good name but to be coming back need to be shown and marketed.
I’d suggest people check stores nearby like Target, Walmart, Macy’s, Toys R Us, etc. because I have a feeling these will definitely suddenly show up.

How many times did I hear that Mattel said kids don’t care about quality!
Since I was three I was literally always obsessed with articulation and quality on my dolls like all I played with for a while were my Barbie fashionistas because of their articulation or being completely obsessed with bottoms that are made out of a Jean-like material with actual buttons and stuff !
I just don’t know what to say but like kids care about quality !

100% do not get why Bratz and MH teams do like nothing for promo??? Even just social media posts to promote things are nonexistent. We’ve basically known GNO repros are coming for at least a month or two and they haven’t even TEASED any releases. It would take like one post saying “hey girlz, you ready for a nite out again?” and that would be more than what they’re doing now.
Same with MH. The fact they are ready to go so soon and weren’t at any conventions recently? Dude… how the heck do you fumble that bad? Just do ANYTHING to promote them and it’s better than what they’re doing now. I assume they have good hopes for G3 because they made a movie and a show, but those also are getting little to nothing. (I will say that from what I remember about kid’s movies as a kid they usually only got promoted like a month or so in advances as commercials on TV so maybe the movie just hasn’t hit that timeframe yet).
Just god please promote your products. It takes little effort and gets you more sales so????

I remember back when monster high had the first reboot and enchantimals came out and people had been bashing them to no end I had found your channel, and it's made me appreciative to always know there was someone else who feels the same as me on these dolls (and just the monster high franchise in general) and I'm glad that's stuck, I am very excited but also scared of this monster high reboot. The marketing is poor and the amount of hatred people have had for it is really sad and I feel like other than the actors being actively attacked mattel doesn't seem to care that much, and MGA has had me on a chokehold like never before, I was always a mattel doll fan but nowadays I consider myself a huge fan of MGA, I wasn't immune to LOL OMG (and fierce now lol) and I absolutely adore Rainbow and Shadow High. Being out of state and looking for the creeproductions has been a challenge. Never got the chance to buy the originals as a kid. It's upsetting it was only a limited release, you'd think they would push for a shelf place in the doll aisle. You also said the same thing I've been thinking about barbie's quantity over quality. Every time I look in the barbie section it's just depressing kids and collectors nowadays get little to no regard for the product they buy. You just don't get the magic feeling looking in that section anymore, just cheap sad looking dolls that always looks stocked because no one wants a majority of them. >.

i think in MGA's case they are choosing qauntity over qaulity and overextending themselves to try and dominate every corner of the market. Which I understand is just Business but I would personally rather them focus on making improvements and upkeeping with QC than producing more additional lines. With Mattel this is coming off as a Nostaglia based money-grab with little love or appreciation for fans or the line itself. (by mattel i mean the company specifically, not the creative team ofc)

It is about the various lawsuits Mattel has filed against MGA and other artists regarding its doll Barbie. It is a really engaging and interesting read and it may provide useful information for future videos.

I am not a big fan of the new dolls that leaked so far, but the faces really bother me not because they are new what so ever, but that they clearly have a cartoonish face sculpt, which is bizarre to me??? The original faces were realistic, even Abby had a face mold that matched a real life person (Rickey Thompson)!!! And those face sculpts were really versatile, you can make them have a realistic, or a cartoonish face which was proven by a lot of doll artists including myself, not to mention the money that they had to spend just for those new faces, YES give us deferent body sculpts, but you can also do that with the original faces, they could have spent the money for the faces on different things like clothes and what not, I do love the outfits so much, but we all know that they won’t last especially if they gave everyone a new face, and body sculpt

I am very grateful for the MH reproductions. I am glad that these reproductions wont have some of the issues the original MH dolls had like with the glue seepage, and the paint washing off, or having to pay ridiculous prices on ebay. Even collectors who own the original MH dolls appreciate the improvements that have been made. These reproductions also allows doll collectors to purchase these dolls for their kids and introduce their kids to a doll line they loved thus growing MH's fan base. Personally, I feel that Mattel needs to get their shiz together when it comes to making their products available. I have STILL not found them in stores which really made me disappointed because I wanted the experience of buying them in person but ended up getting them online. At least I was lucky enough to find them online! So many fans want to get them and still can not find them in stores or online. It's so frustrating for consumers who are excited about a doll line and then can't find them. What i worry about is that people are going to get turned off by the fact that they cant find these dolls and they will give up trying which in turn could negatively impact how well MH does. Monster High has an opportunity to grow their fan base but in order to do that they need to have their products on shelves. And yes please improve your communication/promoting about these dolls! I am still miffed that I missed out on the Haute Couture Frankie because I had no idea she would be dropping! Mattel are you trying to sabotage MH's return? Geez

The only reason I didn't like the reboots was because they lost a bit of what made them different. I fell in love with the original release because they were so different from the super "girly" dolls that the toy lines were pushing when I was kid. They were creepy cute and while they could be sparkley they still broke the mold. When the reboot released it was decent and having the different body type was nice they fell back into the "made for girls" astehtic that made them blend in with every other line out there. But that is just how I feel.

Seems like Mattel might depend on Nickelodeons for the reboot exposure to their ACTUAL audience, which is kind of concerning for the brand. I mean how long will the MH series last? It has 26 eps as of now, I fear they might end up like Descendants or Disney Zombie toys. Those dolls only lasted while the Movie premiered, and for Descendants until the 3D series stopped. I liked the Haunt Couture dolls, but the price and the mattel creations was just not for me, also the fact so many people received dolls with lip chipped, wonk and more. Surely keeping quality control on limited run would be easy.
At this point I'm confident Bratz has no design team, probably an accountant who sends a Express Meygan to the factory and tells them to recreate her using now a days methods. Hopefully they get a design team soon because Bratz need a full 360 change. For the longest I've been hoping for them to fix the Bratz hip because its so outdated and looks so bad, it should have been changed in 2002 with the Boyz but to this day we still have that 2001 hip joint.

Unfortunately the prowess and passion of the designers rarely reflects in the final product as we’ve seen with almost everything Mattel has put out. I have full faith that the dolls will be amazing because I trust the team and like what I’ve already seen.
They haven’t marketed it at all or teased anything at all and dolls ship this week-That’s alarming for such an important launch. It seems they’re trying to pull a Barbie which will not fly for a reboot that the current fanbase won’t support

Really appreciate the clarity on your positive stance of the reboot (and your defense of the first reboot, as someone who also enjoyed it for the most part). People are allowed to have different preferences and opinions, but oof the toxic behavior can be pretty discouraging when you're just trying to be cautiously optimistic and vibe 😅
I've seen Jakks and Jazwares reach out and take feedback from adult collectors for playlines like Mario and Pokemon (just because that's around my wheelhouse) and I'm constantly surprised by it because you never really hear about companies doing that for dolls or other "girl toys" with significant adult collector bases (with _maybe_ some exception with bronies for mlp g4, but as someone who was around for all of that I'd still argue it was in a very limited capacity with largely separate merchandising). That's all anecdotal but uh, sure seems to point to some good ol' systemic issues huh >_>
Also it's absolutely wild that we're seeing Monster High show up in store planograms and shipping to them by the end of _this month_ and we haven't hard any marketing for the playline dolls at all like ?? We have marketing for the movie but that technically seems to be Paramount/Nickelodeon's doing, so like Mattel wtf? Even if the new playline wasn't due to release until, say, the year-end holiday season, it still doesn't make much sense that they haven't had any press releases or presence at toy shows or events... I didn't think much of it aside from it being odd, but you explaining it all out does have me concerned now. I really want this reboot to do well, especially since it already looks considerably more ambitious and thoughtful than the first one 😖

I agree with you the ways they didn't even have a july release or aren't even promoted or tease yet, they know the playline line will fail and are just doing to weakens MGA popular brands, i scared monster high will end up like masters of the universe with only collectors dolls with more creepoduction on the sides.

  • @KatAlystsStage

Honestly, you hit a lot of nails on the head, this addressed a lot of my concerns and even brought some attention to things I hadn't considered. I'm not the most in-the-know about all the stuff in the doll world, but I didn't know they were coming out next month. I mean it makes sense, it's a high school setting, back to school time leading into a holiday season would make so much sense for these characters, but where is the fanfare, where is the promotion for these dolls? Yeah, the brand recognition comment is exactly how I feel about it, that feels like what they're riding on, and that feels like a poor strategy for the reboot.
I'd like to be clear that I don't hate the newest reboot (and I'll even say I like the 2016 reboot too, the smiles were nice and some of the dolls were cool, especially Shriekwrecked!). I'm generally not a fan of rebooting franchises, because it feels like they're relying on brand recognition and nostalgia to carry a product rather than making something new and inspired. It's also why I'm not into a lot of franchise continuations, like what Star Wars is doing right now. There's a lot I like about Star Wars, but Episode 7 is just a retelling of Episode 4 done by a new team. And just, if I wanted to watch that, I would just watch Episode 4, you know? I like the original the way it is, I don't need anyone rehashing or reinventing it, but I also want the spirit of the original to be there while still being new. Does that make sense?
If I wanted a re-imagining of a property, I have this whole world of fanfiction and fan AUs that do a really good job and have a community specifically made for each one, I don't need a company to do that too. And ultimately, that's what my issue with the new MH is, it feels like it's wearing the Monster High name tag to try and make money, but it doesn't have the same spirit as Monster High. I don't think the new designs are bad, but they're very far removed from the design elements I loved of the original. And that's okay, there could be room in my heart for both, that depends on the story. I saw the leak of Cleo you mentioned, and oh my gosh I was excited for it! (Same with the Deuce leak, he's got a very interesting sculpt.) She reminded me of the Wild Hearts Crew dolls, which much like you with Cave Club, is a line I will fight to the end to defend. Yeah I totally agree that the printed on everything was a bit much, and I'm so with you, just an extra trim or some variety in texture would have been good, but even as they are, WHC made me so happy as a line. Jacy Masters and Cori Cruze are some of my favorite dolls and this just makes me want to display them again more, I was so sad when the line went away. Their style was right up my alley, and just, MAN I saw myself in Jacy and it was so nice, I was really hoping there would be some clothing patterns developed for her in the customizing community, that would've rocked.
I don't think what little we know of the reboot MH characters are bad, but I'm confused as to why they are the way they are, and I'm hoping the show answers some of those questions, but I don't have faith that it will, most doll media nowadays just doesn't (still waiting on the explanation for the palettes in Shadow High). Like, why is Draculaura into witchcraft now? There could be a very compelling narrative to follow there, and many fans have come up with some great ideas that I would love to see fleshed out, but I don't believe there will be any real build-up or story in the official media.I'm not saying the original MH was like, a master of storytelling, but some of the stories in this universe were really compelling. I just watched Frights Camera Action for the first time last month and was pleasantly surprised by the story. I really hope that energy comes back, but with a new team working on it, who's to say? And then you have characters like Lagoona who are so far removed from what they were before. Lagoona is my biggest gripe, because I actually LOVE this new design, she's a great sea creature and I'm intrigued by her story based on the sea nymph thing, there is so much POTENTIAL, but the minute they called her Lagoona, it kind of left me baffled. She's not even remotely similar to Lagoona, this is a completely new character, and I just wish the series had gone and created all new characters with new names from the start. If this were a true new generation with a new student body, I feel like the criticism would have been a little less harsh. Obviously there still would be criticism, but like, I think it'd be easier to get into it if this series took place in the same universe at a different point in time, in a way that expanded it. Like, we got to hang out with the ghouls for a long time, they went on a lot of adventures, it's okay to move on and tell new stories with new characters that have some of the same and some new problems to work through. It's okay to move onto something new.
I really like your suggestion of having releases that are unreleased designs or characters that weren't dolls. That is a cute Draculaura and I'd love to see her fully realized! Or what about Pharaoh? I know a lot of people don't like the boys, but I do, and it is so frustrating that Pharaoh, a crucial character to the Boo York movie, a movie that had SO MANY DOLLS attached to it, did not get a doll. If Mattel gave us Pharaoh, I would be all over that, so fast. And like, Garrett Sanders has shown off so many unreleased concepts on Instagram, we know they exist, it would be so beneficial for the collector side of things to do those for the "reproduction" style of doll. I'll be real, we didn't even get the Booriginal Creeproductions in stores here, I was hunting for Lagoona and could not find any of the four of them.
Unlike you, I didn't get to grow up with Monster High or Ever After High. My parents thought I was too old for dolls, and I was encouraged to sell my Barbies at our garage sale (my sister actually put them in without telling me and I just went with it because I was too afraid to take them off the table). The last time I got a Barbie was when Twelve Dancing Princesses came out, I had Blair and Courtney, they were some of the last new dolls I had before then. I fell into into the MH/EAH webisodes in late high school and college, and it wasn't until my roommate went with me to Ollie's that I got my first doll, Peri & Pearl, and then Meeshell, which tells you how late I was to the party. But all that said, this series means a lot to me too. It's important, it gave me a lot of confidence to go and just be myself, be unique, be a monster. I want to see something good come out of this reboot. But given the state of the fandom...well, it has me dreading it rather than anything else. I'm sick of the way it's being talked about and the arguing. I like how you've talked about it here, it's constructive.

I didn't even know it was a "reboot" line because they have been packed away for so long. As for the new generation of MH, it might not be the MH of 2010 but it will capture a new fan base hopefully and spread the love. We already have a massive variety of amazing dolls. Time for others to experience that same joy. I'll continue to cherish the collection I already love.

I’m stuck in between wanting to root for the reboot regardless of what collectors say, because I definitely agree with you about how the current state of most doll collectors not liking change: kinda unfortunate. I actually liked the first reboot but was kind of disappointed in the lack of the world from the original be discovered and using certain characters that were put on the back burner for a longtime be used again, and finally conclude story arcs that never got wrapped up: but that’s just me being slightlyyyyy picky. It’s too easy to try and not understand newer things, unfortunately. Especially with how accurately you described discovering the og Monster High through all kinds of media. I will say I’m really curious to see where the new reboot would go, and for the sake of everyone working on it with pure passion for what they’re doing, I do hope it goes well regardless of the likely statistics of the market with adult collectors will look like just as long as they keep the core values that makes Monster High what it is and stand the test of time. I’m not much of a quote type of person, but “Be yourself, be unique, be a monster.” Will forever live on in my brain aha

I really like the dolls that Mattel is putting out but the prices are kinda ridiculous and the limited release is a no no because everyone wants them, no collectors want them, kids want them, ppl who used to watch Monster High want them. A lot of l want them. So pls pls pls plsssss for the love of God Mattel don't make limited releases with Mattel. It's not working. And scalpers are getting what they want and their dream. It's not working. I was gonna get the Frankie doll and didn't get one (I didn't realize I didn't have enough money before hand so I wouldn't have got her anyways) and it wasn't okay because scalpers kept buying them all or the site would crash bc so many ppl were buying them at once. Or it would be super slow. Whatever. But it is. Not. Working. And I wanted the dolls and I can't get them because either their too expensive (some of them are worth it but it's just what they did 10 years ago so I'm used to that type of doll being around $20 and the collector dolls being around $40) or I can't get them bc they sell out in a few minutes. Also Mattel is just making doll lines go for a 6 months-a year if that sometimes and it's so sad because they're such good lines. I'm also afraid it's either gonna sell out as soon as they hit stores (like same day) or not sell at all and we don't get anything else. Also alot of Mattel's funding is going to the new Live Barbie movie which is great I love that their doing that but pls for the love of God put more budget into dolls. Making articulation is actually cheaper bc your removing plastic. And even if it's just small changes like paint on shoes or the dress having ONE fabric instead of just the front. It would help so much and it won't take a lot of money either. Just start with the Fashionista's. Bring them back to their glory. They'd sell so fast if they were similar to the old dolls (articulation, big poofy dresses, all kinds of accessories, Barbie pink (what happened to it on dolls?), Nice hairstyles (I like straight hair but not on every doll), more inclusive dolls such as some with glasses, one with a prosthetic arm, one with unique ears, little things, a emo/goth one. It would be a great stepping stone with just the Fashionista's even little by little in each line. It would help so much. Also the repro is getting old. Just buy the original it's old, we've seen it over and over and over and over again. I like them and their nice to have in box as an alternative to have the originals in box (bc they are super expensive in box). But still it's old and I hate it. There's no reason to do it unless the doll is htf or rare/limited. (I just realized how long this is!! I'm so sorry about the rant 😂)

I am excited for the reboot. I was not super into the first reboot. Besides the new Doe eyed look (some dolls did escape the issues with this, Toralei, Cleo and Lagoona were good), the lines themselves didnt interest me as much. One that I did really like that had a fantastic Clawdeen an interesting Lagoona and a crazy haired Ari was the Tea Party line. I would love that line, OG, reboot or reboot two. I am not sure how the new dolls will do. I am hoping well but you never know. I really like the new faces. When I first saw them I was like Aw Crap! I like them! Another list of dolls to buy :) I am not sure how I feel about the new Cleo. I dont like her hair band but that is not a big thing.
I wish Mattel was putting more passion into their Barbie line though. Sure, keep the play lines that Grandparents will buy their little ones. And keep the Collector dolls coming that is fine. But make something that goes on the shelf as well that is interesting. I do like some aspects of the Extra line but I have yet to buy one. I adore #9. Her outfit and her sculpt and hair. Normally I only like a piece of clothing or the doll but it was nice to find one I liked each part. I get that the line is not directed at me and I dont want them to change the tone. Bright colors, crazy pieces, texture and over the top. Fine. Great. But through in some more "basic" outfit pieces for mixing and matching. We dont need twelve hundred necklaces and bracelets but adding an extra top or skirt? Even better!
Also, I would be over the moon for a Classroom Draculaura! Also, if they did variations of the outfit that the OG collector Draculaura had....Yes. All the Yes!

I really love the reboot dolls, I think they're so cute! I want them to do well, but am also worried considering the amount of people trashing them online. One thing I think mattel has always done better than MGA is whimsey. At least in my opinion. With MGA there is a heavy focus on fashion and trends or runway looks (as in looks from designer brands), which I want to be clear I don't dislike. A lot of the time they produce cool designs that way, but I always feel like it's missing something. So I feel to compete Mattel should play into to fantasy, horror or the whimsey; it's something I feel they've always done well and would help them compete better.
I 100% agree that they should be advertising better. It's been a major failure on their part to simply rely on nostalgia for a new thing. I also 100% agree that toys "coded" for "girls" don't get the same respect "boy coded" toys get, even though there are just as many "girl coded" collectors.
I have vague memories of enjoying street sharks as a child, but it's very vague. Cool to see your figures! Sorry to take up so much of your time and I hope it doesn't feel like I'm trashing Rainbow High or anything! I genuinely like them and own quite a few. I never want to come off as a hater v.v;; Enjoy your day and I'm excited to see what you do next!

It sucks that in Europe we don't have the Bratz repros or the mh.. and online they cost so much :'(

I do really want the reproductions to continue because to me they'll be the first time I'll be able to get most of those dolls 💔

I think it would be cool if they’d create some new characters rather than just remaking all the same ones. I mean Frankie, Draculara and Clawdeen are cool but how many versions of the same doll do I need, you know?
And I’m also a little bit worried about where Shadow High is going, hope I’m wrong though cause I love them!

Worried? Honestly, it feels like hive mind. I literally notice a lot of the doll community thinks a like. They all pile on because it’s the thing to fit in. I literally heard so many people parrot the Lagoons actress looks like Doja Cat. Then when the video came out, hive mind turned off.

@@xCanadensis yeah. I edited that. But I don’t think anyone except the CEO’s should worry about Fortune 500 companies.

:/ I don’t really think you watched the video if you think I’m doing any of that. I’m worried about the line I love being mishandled. I don’t give a shit if they make money truly except that it means the brand I like will continue.

@@xCanadensis I guess. I saw the majority. But you literally said MGA is successful. They are a private company with no profit/loss reports. They could be operating at a loss. Plus, the majority of the world have no idea who MGA/LOL/RH/SH are. Bratz maybe.
