- Smithsonian Magazine named Chillicothe, OH. as one of the “15 Best Small Towns To Visit In 2022.” When we visited the town on Aug 15, 2023, it was our mission to find out why they didn’t make the same list for 2023.
We went through the municipal offices where we found the friendliest city employees stuck in the deepest bowels of the building and a woman in the Water Department upstairs who refused to talk with us while our camera was rolling.
When we visited the old historic courthouse in town we discused with the women in the auditors office a pretty glaring punctuation inconsistency on the exterior of their building that might have cost them a spot on Smithsonian’s prestigious list of the “15 Best Small Towns To Visit” in 2023.
KULT News chased down leads that led us to a barren candy dispenser in the Law Enforcement Center that could possibly have had something to do with Smithsonian’s Travel Corespondent Laura Kiniry’s snub of Chillcothe for her annual list.
Watch the story unfold as we uncover the most likely person and/or candy dispenser and/or punctuation inconsistency that cost Chillicothe a spot on the list for 2023. Buckle up, its gonna be a mild ride, relatively bump free.

Love this video. Glad no one violated your right to record. That was nice of that gentleman to allow you to record inside his history store.
That lady was about to violate his right but the guy stepped in. By refusing to help someone that is recording, they are violating his right and I wish he would of pressed her a little more. She needs to be ironed out. She doesn't get the right to not help him because he is recording.

@@IBitchSlapSatan We have what’s called the “Canadian Charter of rights” but what’s unfortunate is that our government has the ability to circumvent the legality of it with other laws and can change and alter, by a parliamentary vote, the legality and legitimacy of those rights. It isn’t, as is your constitution, the foundation of law making. They can and will change the charter to make new laws if it infringes on the governments mandates. It isn’t as fruitful for the common folk as your constitution is for your American citizens. Not even close. We’re way too soft up here in the North when it comes to our god given rights.

"Chillicothe" was previously the name of a moveable Native American settlement. I recommend anyone read "The Frontiersman" by Alan Eckert. It's an incredible book that tells the story of the Ohio/Northern Kentucky area of the late 1700's when it was indeed wild country.
Tecumseh,Shawnee Indian Chief. And Daniel Boone has been known to head this way sometimes.
Chillicothe is an Indian word, means gathering place
Ohio means "many rivers come to one. "
That courtroom is something. Always enjoy (and learn from.) your videos.
I would be proud to be sentenced in such a beautifull courtroom for all my crimes against humanity.❤
As embarrassing as it is to say, I was sentenced in that court room at 16 years old to the dept. of youth services for one year. I learned a lot from the experience, good and bad. I’m 41 now still living in the same town raising a 14 year old.

Apparently Chillicothe has dream of grandeur! With the tiny population of under 22,000 , it seems the town counsel took great liberties with the good people of that towns money!! The facade of City Hall is rediculous..😂😂
If some buildings were listed as "historical", towns can receive grants from the federal government, which will have no bearing on the tax payers.

@@jeffgill420 Grant money is alotted in a pool that is designated for specific purposes. Yes, it does come from tax money, but it's given to towns that request it, which alleviates the burden on the local tax payers.

Telling people you’re trying to find out why this city didn’t make the list in 2023 but respond to a comment that none of the cities that made it in 2022 air the list again. The camera was no where near her face. KULT News was simply asking a question about the Town she's suppose to represent. When you work in the Public Sector you take on a certain role to the Public and to the Town you work for, like being courteous and HELPFUL! Just because a camera was pointed at her (once again, in public) shouldn't matter. Now if KULT News was being Disrespectful I can totally understand her position, but it was simply a generic question about the Town She's Suppose To Represent. She sure showed that representation! Amazing Town, very well kept with impressive buildings and friendly, helpfull people with the exception of the lady at the Water Department Window and the miserable nuisance officer, as they rather let the team down.
It would be interesting to know about the 15 Towns that kept Chillicothe off the list in 2023.

That Court House was incredibly fascinating. What a beautiful piece of history. I wish every town government officials were as welcoming and professional as they are there.

When I was young the pay phone took nickels, dimes and quarter. It took only quarters about the time it was phased out by our local phone company. It was brought back for awhile but is gone for good now. By the way, my families first phone ring was long, short, long and my parents had their last number for 47 years. 2 numbers for more than 50 years! ❤️👍🇺🇲

Man I seen you in Wintersville Ohio 2 days ago at Chase Bank then you walked across the street by Pizza Hut. By the time I parked I was going to come over and tell you I watch yah and support what you are doing! But I couldn't find ya. Police was everywhere lol. I am from East Liverpool Ohio which is about 20 miles north of Wintersville! We used to have a great proud city of 50 thousand or more. But in late 70s and 80s people started leaving because of jobs! So now with the drug epidemic taking out so many people in 12 years and people still moving EL only has 10 thousand people. We used to be a Div 1 school and went against team like St Ed's, Massillon, North Canton Hoover, Hilliard and other big D1 power house schools. We are still very proud city! Pretty Boy Floyd was shot and killed in East Liverpool on a farm. But East Liverpool in the 30s and 40s and 50s gambling, moonshine and mobsters used to come through EL and gamble and sell moonshine and others! It's was a perfect spot for organized crime because how we are located by WV and PA!
We popped into Pizza Hut and had dinner. I don’t think don’t we have sit down Pizza Huts in our neck of the woods so it was an unusual sight for us. -mike

If you drag down from the top of most newer smartphones you will get get the notifications menu, then you drag down again, you will get a few pages of pre-programmed shortcuts (like GPS and flashlight) including a QR code scanner with no screenshot needed. I would not recommend scanning them however because they often do not provide useful or accurate information.
It is generally a bad idea to go around scanning QR codes. You never know what they'll do. Someone could easily put their own QR code on the sign and scanning it could do all sorts of nefarious things.
Agreed. I would certainly hope one in City Hall on official signage would be safe though, no? -mike

I also used to use a pay phone to call my mom collect to pick me up. That was until I drilled a hole in a quarter and put fishing string through it and put it in the phone and pull it out. Best thing I invented…😮
