As a Scotsman im fascinated to see rural US. I do wryly smile when something 150 years old is thought of as OLD. The main bridge in my town dates back to the 13th century, and some buildings date back to around 1500-1600, with some structures as old as 1050 as a build date!
@@JoeandNicsRoadTrip my home dates back in part to the 16th century, and the land plot it sits on goes back to the middle ages! I do have friends in the States, and was involved with the US Navy in the 90s so am genuinely fascinated by your videos!
I admire you folks for not tearing down your history but incorporating it in to the future. Unfortunately here in the US far too many think once a building is 50+ years old we need to tear it down and build new. Not only is it not necessary it also adds to pollution an unnecessary waste. I think it's important to move forward while preserving where you came.
Being an Ohio Native, and having travelled many backroads, and small towns throughout the US, I have to say that towns like these are why I’ll probably never live anywhere else. While these places may not be the bustling hubs they used to be, they are still active communities with their own little eccentricities, and idiosyncrasies. You’ll find these places dotted all over Ohio, and generally the people are always friendly, and very welcoming. Being the original frontier there is also so much history in our state that is still very well known, and preserved. It’s pretty wild that in under a days journey you can go from riding on a world class rollercoaster, to the middle of Amish country. You can see mountains, plains, and three big cities in around 5 hours of driving, and you could make it into Cleveland to catch a performance of one of the best orchestras in the entire world. Whoever said that Ohio is boring never really took the time to look around.
These towns are 20-40 mins from the likes of Indian Hill, Blue Ash or Mason. Pretty big wealth next to incredible poverty. I live on a Tesla-studded street in the Leave it to beaver suburbs, and yeah, hop in the car and it all goes to this.
Having grown up in Northwest Ohio around small towns and cities like that I can agree to that but unfortunately the town I lived in was very much about who you was with your name and my town your name mattered and if you named it mattered you didn't matter and that's how it was for me I don't claim my hometown as my hometown anymore My hometown is Sandusky Ohio home to cedar point but there's so much history in that state that people don't realize how important that state was to the union during the civil war Sandusky actually has a couple museums about the underground railroad back in the early 2000s they end up on earthing old caverns in the ground from old buildings that had built over that was end up being used for transporting runaway slaves to put on the boats at the piers to ship them out to Canada to avoid the slave catchers Ohio is probably the most diverse in history in most of our states in the US but it's also on the most redest states as far as the country area is concerned just say that every time that people are generally nice that wasn't my experience but people would crap on me cuz my name didn't matter
I live 30 minutes south of Hillsboro in a little farm town of Sardinia. The area is the Ohio Bible belt, Amish, Mennonite, Christian neighbors that live peacefully and secure in their homes. I am 73 years old, retired 30 years US Army and operate a small farm. Southern Ohio is heaven on earth.
I'm from a part of Ohio I won't go back to..your town sounds like a smaller version of how I once grew up in my Ohio town..last time I visited was 2011?.gunfire all night mostly every night..no thx..I'll stay in my little safe space..only time you hear gunfire is when it's hunting season..not that we don't have crime here..just nothing like my hometown area..thankfully...
@cherbear1996 I've lived in southwest Ohio my entire life. The only time I've ever questioned my safety was living closer to the city. Unfortunately the city is moving out this way now.
I am a retired UPS driver that has delivered packages in every town you were showing. You missed the most historic homes in Hillsboro. The 400 through 700 block of N. High St. and the 200 through 500 block of E. Main. I laughed at your Johnny Paycheck reference. Aross the street from the Hillsboro courthouse used to stand an old bar called the North High Lounge. Johnny got into an argument with another man and pulled out a pistol and shot at him. I can't remember if that's when he went to prison or not, but he fled back to Greenfield and was arrested! Thanks for the video, it brought back some fond memories!
Your respect of other people and the way you explore their communities is outstanding and informative thank you helping me to see America and giving me new places and people to learn about 🚘❤️🐈stay safe on your travel’s
@@SadAD. It means the Republican Party is majority of registered voters in that area (city, county, state). Also known as the GOP ("Grand Old Party").
As you have shown in your video, just because a town is poor doesn't mean they can't take pride in keeping their town safe and well maintained. Being poor is not a legitimate excuse for criminal behavior. Because the towns are so small people tend to know each other and help and support each other. There are obviously some exceptions , but overall, they are good places to live and raise families. Pride in one's self and one's surroundings is not based on income but on morals and hard work and a sense of community. ❤

I most likely will never visit the USA in my life, let alone to rural areas like these, but I love watching your videos. They give me some new perspective. Such sparsely populated roads are impossible to encounter here where I live (Southeast Asia). We're always jostling with other people or other cars everywhere we go.
Aw man I feel sorry for you ,I grew up in Fremont,Ohio & went to school there used to cruise the country roads in my 69 triumph chopper in the 80s ,there's nothing like it ,vast country & hardly any traffic. The weather is beautiful hardly any humidity. Its in northeast Ohio close to Toledo. Its a beautiful state!
@@adrianpena677 No need to feel sorry! Honestly I'm not too eager on visiting because I hate flying. It takes a full day's flight from where I live to reach the USA. I don't think I can survive that. Europe is my limit lol. If someone invents a teleporter maybe I'll consider going. I particularly want to see the national parks and the deserts, I think!
As a Michigan man I can tell you I love Ohio. My grandchildren are buckeyes and Ohio is a beautiful state. The only draw back are the unruly fans of OSU .

I almost feel like I am riding right along with you guys. When I was young (in the 70's) these towns were thriving. I think things went down in the late to mid 80's. I love those houses and how well kept they are. 👍👍🥰🥰👍👍
Thank You, you showed a couple of my husband and I houses in this video. The Yellow 1901 Queen Anne Victorian right about 7:02min in that you showed for Sale is one that we currently just fully remodeled and listed for Sale. In total we have fully remodeled 7 homes within Lynchburg, Ohio. We are trying hard to restore and bring back some beauty in this historic area. Again thank you for your visit.
I was in Ohio for 3 months in 2021 and I can really appreciate the old Victorians and old churches I saw while there in Cleveland. Makes me happy when people like you and your husband restore these beautiful homes.
That's crazy man!! I grew up right outside of most of those areas (Lynchburg/Hillsboro/Wilmington) in Fayetteville, OH. Loved my hometown and all the people out there. Love your content man keep it up!
Hi, Lynchburg resident here. The Covered bridge was actually refurbished due to a potential arson fire that was set back in early 2019. This year they finally finished the restoration
Had the same thing up here in Michigan with the Fallassburg covered bridge, took a few years but was finely rebuilt, would be hard pressed to find one that was not burned down during its lifetime at least once.
Great content! Thank you for the illustrated travels of the great country. The insight you give on these places you visit makes it seem we are right with you. Keep up the good work. Stay safe, and we all enjoy your content and commentary.
I do love the work you do with these videos Lord Spoda, I don't catch as many as I should but everything I see on here is pure quality stuff. Always getting key facts about a place, all aspects about the people and critically balanced about the ethnic angles and all that these places comprise along with the history. Real nice ride alongs, great content.
I'm from Ohio and I thought you did a great job representing our small towns. I don't live in our small town, I live in the country. Sometimes, I wish I lived further out!
I live in Saskatchewan Canada and enjoy watching your videos. Having travelled a fair amount in the US, I find your videos interesting and informative. I have not been to Ohio but have visited many other States.

I’m in Ohio. I grew up in a small village south of Columbus. Only thing we had was a gas station a pizza place and 1 bar. No traffic lights. You had to drive to the next town over to go grocery shopping. Miss it for sure. In Columbus now and boy was that a mistake. Nice tour 👍
A company I worked at in the early 1980's wanted to boost the moral of the employees, so they hired Johnny Paycheck to perform for us. He sang Take This Job and Shove it, only the words were changed to Take This Job and Love it. They even let us bring in coolers of beer. Not sure if it made us love our job more, but it was pretty cool
They need the money. Here in CA state drivers will run yellow lights and sometimes red ones too. No cops around. There are traffic cameras around in some places but what good will that do?
The best part of your informative videos is your demographic profile. In the short time it takes you to tell us the information, we get such a clear picture of the living conditions, the history, and the conditions of the future of these environments. Thank you for the road trip!
I was born and raised in Greenfield, its a great town. The building downtown you thought was a courthouse is indeed a functioning court house. It also houses the water dept and Police dept/jail. You mentioned the low crime rate, thats due in large part to the fulltime fully staffed Police dept. Its very rare for a villiage to have that! I went to McClain highschool and it is incredible inside, frankly its like something from a movie, it has to been seen to be believed. Thanks for a great video on our little corner of America.
I was thinking the exact same thing! Sounds like the guy making this video is anti-normal/conservative but even if the average income is 25K a year, the town looks pretty good. Houses look well taken care of even if they’re old as dust. Damn, this would be a great place for me to retire in!
Grew up going between Cleveland and Columbus, so it’s nice to see places of Ohio I’ve never been. I feel like Ohio takes a lot of pride in their historical sites and keeps them well preserved and watching this video reminded me of that. Been watching your videos for a while and it was so funny seeing you experience the randomness of Ohio weather. Safe travels!
I politely disagree. I grew up in Ohio. They pave over or reinvent anything that smacks of anything historical. Got out of there as soon as I turned 18. Never looked back.
I did a long road trip around the US a while ago and followed the Ohio River at one stage. I remember stopping in one of the small towns to buy a bottle of wine and it wasn't until I went into the stores that it dawned on me how run down the local economy must have been. A strange, semi abandoned slightly sketchy atmosphere. The local people were friendly but somewhat taken aback to find a foreign tourist browsing their local store. I like visiting these out of the way parts of the USA as they tend to have a lot of character, the environment is beautiful and the people friendly. There is usually a lot of social and industrial history too which is rewarding to investigate if like me that kind of thing interests you.
My town Greenfield Ohio.👍 I'm sitting here in Greenfield McDonald's watching this video right now. Excellent piece on McClain High School. Enjoyed your speech on Johnny Paycheck. There was also another country singer from here in Greenfield. Brad Martin was his name. He had the hit song Before I knew Better.
A college classmate and former coworker moved her family to the Greenfield area decades ago from Springfield. She worked in a greenhouse all those years. I learned she passed last year with her husband passing a few years earlier. They were part of a band. She sang and her husband played the guitar. They are interred in the area.
So interesting to see the mural about bells in Hillsboro. I think it would be a great addition to always include some information about the major industries (past and present) in these towns.
All these small towns are beautiful ... I really liked Greenfield, and especially Wilmington ... watching the video I felt like walking through those streets, it must be a wonderful experience. I live in central Italy, and watching the video some considerations came to my mind: Here in Italy the houses, whether they are single or condominiums, are almost all surrounded by a gate, while instead I see that there in the USA practically none. This makes the streets of your towns much more beautiful and livable, in my opinion ... however, I like them better than ours. Here in Italy the cars all seem to be in a hurry, often an unnecessary haste, more of a habit ... over there it seems that everyone takes it easy, another point in your favor ... in my next life I want to be born in Wilmington!!! Seriously, thanks for these beautiful videos ... Ciaoooooooo
As for the traffic situation in the USA, it all depends on where you are. In a small town it's leisurely. But in a big city like New York, it's crazy. Greetings from Columbus Ohio. 👋
Wilmington is beautiful! Love it there! I happened to be in Wilmington when they were filming the move...Back to Yonkers...(something like that 😂). I was crossing the street during filming and I was stopped and told I couldn't go on that Street because they are filming. I said you better call the Police because my MIL's funeral is right there (pointing at funeral home) right now AND I'M GOING! Yes...true story. 😂 But truly...Wilmington is so clean and well maintained. 👍
I just found your channel and subscribed. I am an Ohio native and have heard of these towns but have never been to them so I thoroughly enjoyed riding along and hearing the history with you! Woo hoo I am near Dayton Ohio so I am looking forward to your next video! Sharpshooter Annie Oakley is from my neck of the woods Greenville Ohio.
Love Ohio, lived here all of my 21 years. Few natural disasters, relatively cheap living, and the towns usually have a pretty nice vibe. Especially love this place in the Fall. Only real complaint is the lack of sunlight. Outside of Summer it is usually very overcast, which tends to bring everyone's' moods down.
...and Democrats... I can deal with overcast weather! At least that doesn't suck my bank account dry or ruin the public schools! That's the worst part about cities in Ohio.
Very interesting videos for a foreigner way across the ocean - don't usually get to see much of small town America. Excellent work! Greetings from Finland. :)
Thanks for coming to and featuring Ohio. I love my State, and it's so nice to see these cities show up. If you're out near Cliffton Mill, stop in the restaurant that now inhabits the old mill. It's a wonderful place for breakfast with beautiful scenery
I live in Greenfield and know Hillsboro and Wilmington well also. Great job of showing these towns in Ohio. I highly anyone interested in small town Ohio to watch it. Myself, my parents, and grandparents all graduated from McClain High School. It is beautiful, inside and out. I wished the video could have shown the inside with the gorgeous statues as well as a marble staircase. The staircase is not used only at graduation for the seniors to use. Not much as far as restaurants or shopping here but we are centrally located about 50 miles from Columbus, Dayton, and Cincinnati. The largest "small town" nearby is Chillicothe Ohio in Ross County. It has most everything you would need to buy without traveling to the big cities.
Thanks for this relaxing video. I was foolish enough to allow myself to get drawn into debating societal issues on some other videos. I always know your videos will be both relaxing and interesting. Gave a like as always.
Hey Joe. Enjoy your videos even more since you seem to have upgraded a bit. Like the history you put out. Many historical towns with so many historical buildings which I wish you would spend more time on. Thank you and look forward to seeing more!!
Great Video's. I'm from over the Pond in Scotland. Great to get a look at Towns and Cities in America. PS. I didn't think you had Village's in America.
I live in Hillsboro, Oh. I have lived in the area all my life. Friendly town. The counthouse is the pride of the area. Looks lovely at Christmas. And yes, there is a navitity on the counthouse square funded by local family. Many beauitiful and active churches in Hillsboro. Sorry you missed our wonderful little league park. The place is hopping with excited kids and families all summer. Wish there were more jobs in the area, but this is a wonderful area to bring up a family. Thanks for showing Highland Co.
Very nice video. It always strikes me how few pedestrians you see walking about in these towns. Also, it's funny that you're having snow in Spring, and in Australia we've been having heatwaves in Autumn !! Thanks so much for an enjoyable video.😊
There is a town in Ohio called Loveland Ohio. There is a castle that a man built by hand from the rocks in the river. He build it for his wife I think and she passed away. I would love to see that if you happen to get close to there sometime. Thank you
This video popped up on my feed today, and I’m so happy it did! I live just east of where you started the video, about 3 miles south of New Vienna. I think you probably went through there on your way from Leesburg to Wilmington. We’ve only lived here 2 years, but we’ll never leave! Next time, stop by!
Thank you, cute lil'village. Much better than the last video I watched of your - Gary IN. What a dump that was. What a cool bridge that was there that you walked through into lynchburg.
Typical landscape, like in Canada. Thank you for your sharing. We have now exactly the same temperature in Ottawa. Have a wonderful weekend with your wife. We love watching your videos. Hope one day I can seating in my van, take wife with me and drive around North America(USA-Canada). Here in Canada we have not too many towns, like in USA. Sometimes have to drive for a hours to see first village or city. For example, US towns, like in this video, in Canada named village. Thank you again and enjoy your life, my friend.
I have some friends over in Glouster, Ohio that I mentioned your channel to. A few years ago, it was the poorest town in the poorest county in the state, though it has improved slightly since (or other places have just gotten worse). I said I'd have to show them your video if you visit there. Would be a great analysis.
It's sad you chose to visit Ohio at the tag end of winter----the country is at its deadest and muddiest! lol ~ ~ by the end of April, it's GORGEOUS here, fresh GREEN of many shades in the woodlands and with a profuse variety of wildflowers---the scenic hwy. 50 along the Ohio River is worth the drive for sure! From the Appalachia foothills of Eastern Ohio and Hocking Hills to the hills of Cincinnati, Southern Ohio is very beautiful.
So cool! I grew up near Lynchburg. I took karate in the church basement for 6 years until I went off to college in Dayton. That town was thriving a lot more back then. There used to be a large IGA grocery store, restaurants, bars, that movie shoppe we rented from all the time.
I imagine you've finished filming in Dayton already... One thing I was very impressed with there was their parks. Most being natural, but I'd highly suggest Wegerzyn Gardens MetroPark. IMO it is a crown jewel for the area. If you have the chance I'd suggest city of Hamilton, Ohio. It is a little city that thinks it is big, existing in the shadow of Cincinnati. So much to check out within 5 minutes of downtown. A ton of historical sites and architecture, a historic germantown, Trains going through (they recently moved the old dilapidated station to save it). The local Miami university Hamilton is right next to the river and has a conservatory.
I watch your videos of Rural areas with great interest. I am from Pakistan. I lived in US from 1981 to 1991 and have travelled many of these country roads. Your videos have refreshed my memories. Thanks for the tour of these Ohio communities. I'm headed out to that area on my next big road trip. (looking forward to experiencing The Ark and seeing Serpent Mound) Very neat covered bridge--if you make it back to California I recommend checking out the bridges in Felton and Knight's Ferry (longest west of the Mississippi). Seeing places like the Dairy Bar that are still in business is so cool. Looking at their online menu, I think I'll have a Coney Dog, homemade onion rings and a chocolate malt! 🙂
Don't waste money on the ark unless you love museums about alternative facts, enjoy reading poster boards or very large money rip offs. Serpent Mound though - AMAZING. Visit all the mounds in the state. There are tons and tons of them.
When you come check out the wall along The Ohio river in Portsmouth .It is a mural on the flood wall and the town has other things to see. It is also a beautiful ride on the back roads.
@ARidenour The ark is in Kentucky, not Ohio, and it is intended to be for educational purposes. I have been to it twice and I enjoyed it both times . It really depends on the person.
just about every village has at least one dairy bar. My village has two, one at each end. I think that they represent small town places. The Serpent Mound is about ten miles from my home. I also see lots of Amish/Mennonite buggies and Amish markets near me. There are three not too far away. And the Ohio River is about twenty miles south of me. Lots of things out here.
I really enjoyed your video especially the local history you provided. Its important to remember these little towns. I was a bit sad to notice the town looks a bit run down and like theres not much business. Itd be nice to see it revitalized for its locals.
These towns look great compared to many in other states, especially the South. Few businesses, a lot of abandoned, decrepit buildings. Oh and in most rural towns the majority population is mostly old people.
This was wonderful thank you! I work in Hillsboro and live in New Vienna. The reason the coffee shop building in Hillsboro is closed is because the building next door to it collapsed a couple of years ago. As old buildings like that often are they were attached from the basement up.
I loved this video. These cities and villages were beautiful! My favorite is definitely Wilmington. The houses and downtown are spectacular! The connection to the ‘16 election is also interesting.
I grew up in a very small town in NYS, but moved to Ohio over 20 years ago. Since then I have seen this state and specifically Columbus grow exponentially. I myself prefer the bigger cities, just more job opportunity and more things to do and see. Yes some "country" towns here in Ohio are and can be nice. I can't justify my commute taking 2 hours back and forth. I know some people that do so. The suburbs are actually super nice and not a far drive downtown. Has the small town vibe. Great video!
Over twenty years Ohio's population has increased by 334,000 total. The Columbus population has grown 26% (191,000) since 2000. It does account for more than half of Ohio's population growth in that period, but that is not exponential. Until recently, I lived in Youngstown whose population has decreased 27% over the past twenty years. Most cities and towns in Ohio are in decline.
Loved you episode in rural Ohio! I lived in South east Ohio, appalachia area, near the Hocking hills / old man’s cave. Outside Wilkesville in Vinton county. Wished you could’ve taken us there!
Oh and another thing. I love how you described Michael Moore's movie. Completely devoid of opinion, just describing what it was. As you know, Michael Moore can be a very divisive personality and I love how you didn't interject your opinion, just stated facts. I don't know your politics and that's "a good thing!"
Thank you, Joyce. I'm a big Charles Schulz (creator of Peanuts) fan and years ago I read his biography. There was a passage where a reporter asked him why he wouldn't share his political views. Schulz' answer was "And anger half of my readers? Why would I do that?' Wise words.
@@JoeandNicsRoadTrip Thing is, the introduction of Franklin to the Peanuts strip spoke volumes politically. Numerous newspapers threatened to cancel the Peanuts strip over it, especially when Schulz had Franklin and the white children in school together.
It's really funny how people often confuse politics for economics, math and demographics. Lots of videos on this channel show charm and beauty of middle America and rust belt. Bunch of numbers, but they are all pretty basic..so many square miles population and service.. and that's all dependent on the tax base. See the sprawl of Indiana and Michigan videos and government doesn't have enough tax money coming in to maintain schools fire police roads, public space . Each video or statistics showing the population aging and getting smaller should be a 911 emergency for the entire country. How do we maintain jobs and lure new investment.. doesn't matter what political party brings the jobs brings new opportunity to the community and maintain current employment.. scary at the per capita and median household income.. very very low.. and as you drive around.. where are the building blocks for the future? Schools of everything..every kind.. and your data connecting college students w crime..? Michael Moore makes lots of films revealing obvious problems and often don't spend significant time on solutions.. the US needs workers and jobs..America needs to work towards a sweet spot of people young enough to work..produce and consume..as we are going have huge percentage of the population set to stop producing and consuming through retirement and death.. people are being sold a bill of BS about the population of the country.. Decades from now we will have even more extreme worker shortages and that's where most of the tax base comes from.. wondering what we are waiting for?
@@randycallow3736 I find it interesting how folks refuse to accept that demographics have always been political. I say that as one who graduated with an interdisciplinary degree in business and history from a self-proclaimed right wing university (and worked in their archives). That university was founded by a guy who made it his mission to make everything, including religion, political to an extreme level. Unfortunately, that dude's influence has done so much damage to the country that I don't think the US will ever recover. We hear today of certain political parties making it illegal to protest in the streets while at the same time decrying "cancel culture". Well, the founder of my former university led a massive street march to the doors of the 7/11 headquarters because he believed they were evil for selling something he didn't like. He wanted to cancel free speech for a certain publication. Anyways, enough about that. Btw, I am a librarian now. A number of years ago I picked up a fantastic book called "The Gospel According to Peanuts. I highly recommend it.
Besides a few years in the Army, I've been a buckeye my whole life. I lived in Lynchburg for three years prior to relocating back to my hometown of Oxford, Ohio, approximately an hour or so away. My memories of Lynchburg are quite bittersweet - some aspects of daily living more favorable than others. Geographically speaking, Lynchburg and its surrounding regions are absolutely beautiful. The bleakness of winter as revealed in your video is rather dismal and depressing compared to the colorful autumns, springs and summers, although when covered by a blanket of snow it sure rivals a Norman Rockwell painting! As an historian, I am fascinated by the numerous remnants of antiquity dotting the landscape, and am intrigued by the plethora of extraordinary historical moments, people and events which transpired in the area decades ago. As for the community, there are a lot of very kind, noble and respectable people who call Lynchburg their home - many, if not most, of whom being descended from multiple generations of Lynchburg residents. Unfortunately, there is still a great deal of hatred, ignorance and bigotry prevalent in the area reminiscent of a very dark and shameful era from our nation's past. Sadly, these ideas and myths and fears continue to experience rebirth as they are passed down along from generation to generation, significantly hindering race relations and social progress. It is due to this deeply rooted culture of hate and the predominance of white supremacy that I was ultimately forced to relocate.
I am from Southwest, Ohio. I grew up in Colerain Twp. which is in the northern most part of Hamilton County which was still fairly rural when I was growing up. I now live in Liberty, Ohio, northeast of Cincinnati. I'd really like to see you visit Lebanon, Ohio, a historic Ohio city that has historic landmarks, beautiful homes and has remained a small Ohio town. I love these small Ohio towns.
I happened to come across your video today, and I really enjoyed it. Thank you for sharing this. I was born, raised and still live in SW OH in Cincinnati. I have friends in Hillsboro, but I never knew about that war memorial, that was really nice! A lot of the neighborhoods in Cincinnati have those little ice cream shops nicknamed Creamy Whips. They open around Easter and close around Labor Day every year. There is still a Root Beer Stand in Sharonville, OH. Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky has a lot of German heritage. We have Geotta Fest in NKY every year in the summer and everyone around here loves it! Geotta was made in the early 1900's to make meat go further. It is primarily composed of ground meat (pork, or sausage and beef), pin-head oats and spices. I look forward to seeing more of your videos ☺
I like how you are now showing some footage between towns. Some of that country side is beautiful. The covered bridge was so well preserved. It was absolutely beautiful. Love your videos Spoda and I would like to make a suggestion. Since you are in Ohio can you go visit East Palestine, Ohio? If you don't feel comfortable going then that's ok too. Just a suggestion. Keep up the good work
Would like you to do a video on Yellow Springs, Ohio. Greene County. It is a small town famous for Glen Helen, Bryant Park and Antioch College. One of the oldest Liberal colleges in Ohio. Surrounding towns are Xenia, Fairborn and Springfield.
So many old hippies there . Took the grand kids through to show what drugs can do . Old liberal college closed down for teaching students how to protest and nothing else . Called Yellow Springs for the urine on sidewalks . Loved it .
@@JoeandNicsRoadTrip Yellow Springs is legit my favorite place in this state (Ohio). It's such a quaint cool fun hippy town. Lots of mom and pop shops, festivals, dairy place and tons of great hiking at a huge gorge. Worth it! I'm in Columbus and we go at least once a season. Super open minded.
My dad graduated from Antioch lol! And he wasn't a hippie-he was a civil engineer.. I went to college near there as well, although I've always lived in Northern Ohio. The Yellow Springs/Clifton Gorge area is wonderful and there is something for everyone there...shopping, Youngs Dairy, hiking, biking. Love it! Thanks for coming to our state😊
Hell yeah, mid to late 1980s I played high school football and basketball outside of Dayton so our conference opponents took us all around these parts. Yep, 17 hours behind on my notifications again. ...Lynchburg appears to be a quiet town, maybe nobody's out because of the cold. Love covered bridges! No railroad tracks though. ...I remember those back-woods ice-cream places. We still have a few way out in the country areas of central Pennsylvania. ...Hillsboro seems to be a nice town also. ...Snow flurries in Greenfield. A very picturesque town! Finally saw RR tracks here - I thought Hillsboro would have had some with all the industry there. ...and on to Wilmington - ahh, a somewhat typical larger city, I like the atmosphere downtown and the elegant old homes as well - sorta like we have over here in Harrisburg! See you in Dayton next!
title examiner for southern ohio counties, pretty wild to see all this as i type up the history of alot of these areas but also go enjoy the nature around them too. I've fished near that covered bridge. enjoyed your gary episode.
Used to live in Ohio for a few years, they have lots of real drive-ins for some reason. They even have drive-thru convenience stores, where you legit drive THROUGH the store! I'm guessing it's due to the car-centric nature of the Midwest? By the way-- Newfield NY has a really cute tiny covered bridge, you can still drive over it! Beautiful part of NY, the Finger Lakes. I'm so glad to live here despite it's issues. Have a feeling you're headed for this area based on your taste (which I enjoy so much!!). Another great video, safe travels!!!

As a Scotsman im fascinated to see rural US. I do wryly smile when something 150 years old is thought of as OLD. The main bridge in my town dates back to the 13th century, and some buildings date back to around 1500-1600, with some structures as old as 1050 as a build date!
Absolutely. I often say that Europeans probably get a laugh at what we think of as old.
@@JoeandNicsRoadTrip my home dates back in part to the 16th century, and the land plot it sits on goes back to the middle ages! I do have friends in the States, and was involved with the US Navy in the 90s so am genuinely fascinated by your videos!
Thanks, John! :)
As long as you feel good about u

I was born and raised in Greenfield, its a great town. The building downtown you thought was a courthouse is indeed a functioning court house. It also houses the water dept and Police dept/jail.

Wilmington Downtown was really lovely! Nice video, thank you so much.
I agree.
All these small towns are beautiful ... I really liked Greenfield, and especially Wilmington ... watching the video I felt like walking through those streets, it must be a wonderful experience. I live in central Italy, and watching the video some considerations came to my mind:
Here in Italy the houses, whether they are single or condominiums, are almost all surrounded by a gate, while instead I see that there in the USA practically none.
Ciaoooooooo

Love Ohio, lived here all of my 21 years. Few natural disasters, relatively cheap living, and the towns usually have a pretty nice vibe. Especially love this place in the Fall.
Thanks for the visit. Towns were well cared for.
I appreciate the amount of work you put into this video, the statistics, the prepared routes, etc. Thank you.
Me too! 🙏
Thank you, Jonathan!
I loved this video. These cities and villages were beautiful! My favorite is definitely Wilmington. The houses and downtown are spectacular! The connection to the ‘16 election is also interesting.
The Cincinnati Bengals used to practice in Wilmington.
Thank you for showing us all these great places.
Love your blog.....Didn't know anything about any state now thanks to you I do...Thanks
Just found your videos very interesting. Keep bringing small town USA to us!
Will do, John!! :)
‘Now. This is a lot of stuff…that somebody has…Hmmm…’ I don’t know why that whole bit made me snort!😆🤣
Loved you episode in rural Ohio! I lived in South east Ohio, appalachia area, near the Hocking hills / old man’s cave. Outside Wilkesville in Vinton county. Wished you could’ve taken us there!
One of the most beautiful areas in the hocking hills area hope to be heading down there this month from the flatlands of northwest ohio
All true! And so many want to come here! But we need housing and entrepreneurs! Not fearmongers!
Besides a few years in the Army, I've been a buckeye my whole life. I think you literally can't drive more than 5 miles in most of Ohio, without running into a tiny town, village, etc. There's also something about Ohio nature, crossing the Ohio river when traveling home, the shade of green in Ohio is extra pretty....
Crossing the Ohio River when returning home. You can only be referring to the skyline of Cincinnati. I have experienced that many times.
@@ashcarrier6606Iived in the South for several years. I always was happy to come home at night on I-71/75 and see the city appear as you cane down the hill. I missed seeing the Dixie Terminal after they built that big black building in front of it.
@@ashcarrier6606I live on the Ohio River, right beside the Silver Bridge (the one The Mothman destroyed lol). Then you got Huntington, WV bridge, Parkersburg, Cincinnati. There are a few bridges crossing the Ohio River coming back home to Ohio
Thank you for this video. It is a fascinating look at an area lost in time.
Thanks for taking us with you! 😊
Good leave and take your liberal ideology with you! Don't come back and have a bad day!
Why do you think it’s named Lynchburg. Definitely a town that I will stay away from.
Theres a reason crime is lower in spite of poverty
Nice to see part of the country that is doing great.
I love Lebanon, got some nice buildings.
I'm from SW Ohio too. Kettering/Beavercreek line. I love it here. It's home for 65 years. ❤
I’m in Finneytown I was born and raised in Cincinnati.
We're big fans of Cincinnati, and there's a video of us visiting the city on the channel. Had some good Cincinnati chili!
We have a creamy whip in Loveland, and I work not too far from the Root Beer Stand.
Keep up the good work
I feel so sorry for what that town has experienced😓😪
@@bthomson I agree and I don't want these people to be forgotten
I'll visit there this summer. :)
Come and see us in the heart of Ohio! Delaware, Knox, and Licking county's. Always enjoy your videos, thanks for visiting Ohio!
@@stevebahl6835 there’s nothing in Delaware but a hospital and a Meijer. But that drive in spot is kickass
Would like you to do a video on Yellow Springs, Ohio. Greene County. It is a small town famous for Glen Helen, Bryant Park and Antioch College. One of the oldest Liberal colleges in Ohio. Surrounding towns are Xenia, Fairborn and Springfield.
Lol it's a little inclusive hippie town, Dave Chappelle lives here also
So many old hippies there . Took the grand kids through to show what drugs can do . Old liberal college closed down for teaching students how to protest and nothing else . Called Yellow Springs for the urine on sidewalks . Loved it .
Sounds interesting.
My cousin was down outside of Cincinnati, he played the same and we’d support each other when we could. Familiar traversing all these parts in the team school bus or visiting family in the Pontiac station wagon. Thank you Lord Spoda.
Great job with these videos - I’d never seen some of these towns and after these videos never want to
Yep, 17 hours behind on my notifications again. ...Lynchburg appears to be a quiet town, maybe nobody's out because of the cold.
Thanks, Bill!
Beautiful towns you visited here.
I agree.
title examiner for southern ohio counties, pretty wild to see all this as i type up the history of alot of these areas but also go enjoy the nature around them too.
