    Hi Laura! I'm sitting here watching your video and trying to keep up with the weather channel too. Wishing I was sitting right in the middle of those shell piles. They make me so happy! Hope this storm Nicole is gracious to all the SWF areas after all you guys went thru already with Ian. I hope and pray for everyone's safety in Florida. Thanks for giving us the pleasure of previous videos. Someday the Sanibel beaches will be back to normal and we can take new adventures with you. Have a good week, stay safe!!! Xoxo

    I love going virtual shelling with you, but find myself yelling at the screen trying to encourage you to see the shells you are so close to, but end up leaving behind. I wish you could here me. My little dog is looking at me like I’m crazy. 🐚🪸🤗

    Thank you for sharing and educating me about the sea sponge. I have had a piece of sea twig for over 50 years and it's still orange. Now I know that it was dyed.

    Hey, I think that's the exact sea whip I received in my Virtual Shelling Subscription Box!! It's now in a beautiful Sea Star shaped glass bowl with other shelling treasures in my "Seashell Themed" Bathroom. I may live in Ohio, but you wouldn't know it when you enter my guest bath or bedrooms 😊

    I found the sea urchins were really easy to clean up if you leave them in a ziplock bag for a day or so. The moisture in the bag makes it super easy to clean off the spikes just by washing it under running water. The animal can then be cleaned out with a plastic knife.

    That pearl oyster was neat! It would have been super cool if a pearl had been in it! Why don't people collect Pen Shells? I know the outside is drab brown, but the nacre inside is gorgeous! It was funny when that wave nipped you! LOL When I was 12, my mom and I flew from Virginia to California to visit my aunt and cousins. I couldn't stay out of the water. I think it was Long Beach maybe? And my mom said, "Get out of the water, we're almost ready to go home" (home was my aunt's house). So I got dressed in my street clothes. But my mom and aunt were fiddling around, so you guessed it, I went back to the water and a wave got me! LOL The car we rode in was relatively new, and they didn't want water/sand/muck on the seats. What was I gonna do? My cousin kindly let me borrow a hot pink jump suit to wear. Only problem was she was much smaller than me. I can almost feel that jump suit's tightness today! And I couldn't figure out how my mom knew I had disobeyed and gotten wet! LOL I guess she thought having to wear that tight jumpsuit was punishment enough. And I learned an important lesson: bring extra clothes when you go to the beach! hahahahaha

    This may seem like a silly question, but I’m not familiar with all of the vegetation and trees there. I live way up north, in upper NY state. But, the very stick like thing you used to write thank you with, sometimes there are light colored ones, what are they? I see them all over the beaches, often mixed in with the seaweed and stuff. I’m just curious.
    Thank you for taking the time to share with us. 😊💗🐚🦀🐋

    Laura, if you took an urchin that was almost “done” and left it out in, say, your flower bed would the ants clean it out so that you could keep it without all “the work”?

    • @virtualshelling
      @virtualshelling  Рік тому +1

      Great question! While, in theory, this could work, unfortunately there are critters (raccoons, rats, birds, etc) that will steal your urchin treasure.
