Thank you so much for this version. It was meant to be a rocker and all we seem to hear about is Hendrix, Hendrix and more Hendrix.

Wow, I'm so surprised to see a lesson for this Nugget. Nicely done, and thanks!

Thanks for keeping the greatest version of this song alive. This was the version that sparked hundreds of covers.
There are many younger people who think the Tim Rose/Jimi Hendrix slowed-down novelty version was the original.
The song was a well-covered standard long before Rose decided to gimmick it by slowing it down. Hendrix merely did a cover of the Rose version.

By the way, that's a nice Jaguar. You don't see many any more. It was kinda a cheaper, lighter version of the Jazzmaster.

Are you serious? Thanks for posting this original version of, "Hey Joe". I loved this song as a kid, but stopped listening to that version after Jimi came out with his Barn Burning hit. I became a Jimi Hendrix fan because of his rendition of one of my favorite songs. You've done a great job of teaching this version ( the original Hey Joe). Again, thank you for posting, teaching, and bringing back some wonderful memories. Aloha.

I played this in the summer of 1966 and blew the head, eventually, on my 1963 Fender Bassman piggyback with a 2x12 cabinet. It was worth it!

McGuinn took the intro for his song from The Searchers, "Needles and Pins" the Sonny Bono tune and then the Leaves used the same pattern on Hey Joe. Arguably one of the best, "Top Down Driving" songs ever recorded. The Byrds did their own version of Hey Joe but the version by the Leaves is the best. I play my G differently but this G sounds way better.

Thanks for this. I love Hendrix but this is a killer version-- and the most well known before Jimi covered it. Now I finally know how badly the bands I was in as a teenager mangled some parts of it. Very good to show us this and not be the 3,000th guy to teach people Jimi's way.

Thanks for teaching this version, dude! How can you even pick all the note in the beginning of the solo/instrumental part? ;)
Anyways, which kind of Jag is that?

To me this is the best version. Hendrix the Byrds and god knows who else covered this tune.

Some of the chords on this song sound just like the chords played on the Byrds track "I'll Feel A Whole Lot Better".

@mecormany As much as I like Hendrix, I never did care for his arrangement on Hey Joe. I never had the patience to learn it.
