Dear Anna, there were native, original people living here in Sri Lanka. The original Sinhala people. Sinhalese Queen was knitting cotton clothes when Indian prince Vijaya was ruled out of his kingdom by his father. Vijaya landed here with his army, got married to Sinhala princess Kuweni. So, the Yakkha Sinhala Queen was already here.

I would like to mention one small thing in here ....almost each and every foreigner visits Colombo, taking as Sri Lanka's capital I hope ...but our capital is Sri Jayawardhana pura Kotte, a place near by Colombo. Also where the parliament is located. So if you will visit Colombo please visit Kotte at the same time.

Please visit Kaudulla national park to see worlds largest gathering or wild elephants. About three years ago I visited Kaudulla and saw more than 250 wild elephants. It was amazing.
