This is art and brought tears to my eyes. I have repaired thousands of machines myself. So many people will never understand the high level of creativity technical work can require. You have to invent tools and processes. It doesn't just have to look pretty like ordinary art. Has to stand the tests of use and time. If a component cannot be obtained you sometimes have to make it.

For people wondering why not replace it, sometimes (which turns out to be most times) the ribbon cables are specially made for that device and it is practically impossible to get a replacement.
Also, in some countries (unfortunatelly due to how badly wealth is distributed in the world) it is cheaper for some specialist to spend 8 hours fixing it than buying the replacement.

It doesn't always work though. I had my brother in-law fix a ribbon cable for the Wi-Fi in one of our daughter's laptops.
After the repair, the 5GHz (only) was constantly erroring out.
Checking conductivity with an ohm meter, it was fixed - so why didn't it work?
Also, the Wi-Fi worked when we swapped the ribbon cable from an identical laptop - very confusing and frustrating after putting so much time into trying to fix it...
I vaguely understand the bypass somehow wasn't impedance matched well enough to the original ribbon cable.
Is there some way to get both the resistance and impedance to match the original ribbon cable?

Idk about this... In high frequency circuits the in/output impedances have to be matched in order to maximize power transfer and avoid reflection. High frequency circuits are the circuits where the length of transmission line is greater than 1/10th of frequency being transmitted. Keep in mind that digital signals are composed of entire spectrum (Fourier series/analysis)

Thats awesome! Had to do similar repairs on rf traces on pcbs, its actually kinda fun. Idk if they did it in this video but I would always recommend double checking continuity between lines at the very end before sealing it back. Nothing's worse than finishing a job only to realize there was a problem and you gotta go back. Otherwise, the repair looks awesome

That is honestly impressive, but damn that looks like a lot of tedious work to save a ribbon cable. I feel in most cases you would be better off just getting a new one unless it is one you can't find or is crazy expensive or something. Not trying to downplay it or anything because i do think its really cool. Would be a very good skill to have if you are restoring old tech that might not have parts available.
