- Alcoy (in Valencian and co-officially, Alcoi ) is a municipality and a city located in the southeast of Spain , in the province of Alicante , Valencian Community . It is the capital of the Hoya de Alcoy region, within the Valles de Alcoy sub-region. It has 58 994 inhabitants. 3 It is one of the most important cities and the twelfth by population of the Valencian Community.
After the Roman conquest of the Iberians, several rural villas were built in the area, as well as a necropolis. The town was established in 1256 by James I of Aragon, with the construction of a castle on a strategic position over the Serpis rive, to secure the southern frontier of the Kingdom of Valencia during the Reconquista.
In 1291 the town was donated by King James II of Aragon to the Sicilian admiral Roger of Lauria; it will not return a royal possession until 1430.
During the War of Spanish Succession, Alcoi sided for the cause of archduke Charles, and was therefore besieged and stripped of numerous privileges, which started a period of decline.

One of my faves. The lack of a nearby coastline has made this city pretty distinct from the rest of the province. Less noise, less crowds, a more relaxed way of living. Very authentic and residential.

As a Venezuelan that just got his Spanish nationality, when looking for somewhere to go, as soon as I found Alcoy I fell in love with it, its the perfect sweetspot between a city and a town that I think will bring so many positives!
Also since it is so cheap to live in and incredibly beautiful, I feel it is the perfect place to arrive to in Spain to work hard and see after what other places you might like on the country

Woooo! I’m Spanish and I live in Alcoy!!!! We here have a lot of bridges, El pont de Sant Jordi, el Pont del viaducte, el pont de Cervantes… them are the most famous… but I thing Alcoy it’a so beautiful! (Sorry of my English, I’m learning it 😅). 💕

Can you recommend Alcoy for nature lovers or is there a better place in The Valencian Community? I am moving there to teach English. Thank you in advance for your advice. The obvious choices are Alicante or Valencia capital, but I am very worried I won't have access to nature and it will be too noisy and crowded..

@@user-vw7mr9te6t More than happy, life is not very expensive, there are plenty of places to go cycling or walking, hiking.
It is close to Alicante and Valencia, in case you want to visit them as well.
Good morning, first of all, thanks for making a video of my city Alcoy, but you have recorded very little of the city, since it is much bigger and has many places to see and visit :( You have probably only visited 5% of what You can visit it in the city ... I encourage you to come back to see it again, taste the gastronomy and enjoy his festivities.

Thank you for your kind words. We would love to travel back to Alcoy in the near future. Honestly this time we didn't have much time to explore it thoroughly. There're so many other nice corners we couldn't reach and next time we will definitely go deeper.

@@elenaaraujoborisoff6169 Hi Elena, Alcoy is a small city inside of the Valencian community. The city is between mountains and surrounded by nature, it also has a very good cultural offer, and it is a city that has preserved its traditions very well. I would recommend yo live in Alcoy. See you :)
