"As you ascend to the ranks of Second Lieutenants of the Philippine Army, hold firm to the ideals that have led you to this pivotal moment. Lead by example, command with respect and execute with excellence as you confront the challenges ahead," President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. conveyed in his keynote address during the Philippine Army (PA) Officer Candidate Course (OCC) 'Gaigmat' Class 58-2023 Graduation Ceremony at the Philippine Army Officers' Clubhouse in Fort Andres Bonifacio, Taguig City on July 7, 2023.
"Let patriotism permeate every fiber of your being, empowering you to navigate the complexities of the field with heightened awareness and true mastery of your craft," he said.
He also assured them of the government's dedication to the advancement and welfare of every soldier by modernizing their equipment and enhancing their capabilities.
"We continue to prioritize retooling and retraining to arm you with intellectual fortitude, with tactical prowess and strategic acumen to thrive on the modern battlefield," the Commander-in-Chief said.
One of the highlights of the event included the conferment of awards to the top five of 'Gaigmat' Class 58-2023, with Probationary 2nd Lieutenant Jhun Lyndon Zamora from Catablan in Urdaneta City, Pangasinan receiving the Presidential Saber for Excellence Award from President Marcos Jr.
Composed of 106 members, with 83 males and 23 females, the OCC Class 58-2023 is named 'Gaigmat,' which stands for 'Gabay na Iginawad ang Sarili Bilang Makabayang Tinatangi.' The Visayan word translates to 'vigilance and being watchful of everything at all times', a fitting name noted by the President, as it underscores the vigilance required in our complex and evolving security environment.
