I'm rebuilding a jeep 2.5 engine now and I need to figure out the distributor timing. I get the concept of TDC on cylinder 1 but am confused on whether it is firing or exhaust? Could you explain this a little? thanks, Tim
Tim callinan put a compression gauge in cylinder number 1 and turn the engine over with a ratchet and socket or have someone carefully bump the starter and when u start building compression in your guage u know u are on compression stroke then stop bumping it and look at the harmonic balancer and rotate it to 0 on balancer and u will be at top dead center so u can put distributor in at that point
I replaced the piston rings on my 2.5L and now I’m not getting spark ⚡️. I’m assuming I need to re align it this way to get it going again.

Or you could hold your finger in the spark plug hole and you will feel it blow air out that will tell you your on compression
