Halloween / Halloween II / H2O is my unofficial go-to trilogy

I hate 4 out of 6 movies here. Thorn easily wins for me.
6. Ends, I hate it and I wish that it could be erased out of existence.
5. Revenge, I can't forgive this movie for killing Rachel and giving us the most annoying woman ever not counting Hillary Clinton.
4. Kills, Evil Dies Tonight, well so does my interest in this movie.
3. H18, the dumb humor and not really into Laurie being so nuts. H20 gave us a perfect Laurie as an adult.
2. The Curse of Michael Myers, parts of it are silly but Michael is pretty scary here and the filming in Utah really works. It's a mixed bag but the cult thing had some interesting ideas.
1. The Return of Michael Myers is easily the best movie here and I think it's the best Halloween sequel in general.

This is beyond easy for me, Thorn has Halloween 4 and that blows every DGG movie away. Also, I can rewatch the thorn trilogy and have fun with it even if I don't like 5 but I have no interest in ever rewatching the DGG movies again.
I agree the DGG trilogy gets better as it goes. Part 6 is one of my favorites though

DGG wins for me. I love H4, but 5 is not good, and CURSE is the worst of the franchise. I really like 2018 and KILLS, but not ENDS. So, Thorn = 1/3 good movies, and DGG = 2/3.

Im going with thorn because of the nostalgia factor and the serious tone of the movies.I hated the characters in the DGG trilogy,the silliness and corny not funny one liners were just brutal to watch and so cringe worthy.I did like the kills in the DGG trilogy but thats about it.
Im going Thorn. Thats what I grew up with and Halloween 6 was first Halloween movie (I was 18) I got to see in theatres. Halloween 4 is better than any of these. Plus Halloween 5 is better than Ends. Call me crazy. Lol

Thorn trilogy is way better overall. Halloween 4 is the best sequel in the franchise, Halloween 5 is a big letdown but I put it above Kills or Ends and I think Halloween 6 is pretty entertaining. The DGG trilogy is like the Star Wars sequel trilogy for me, starts off decent but goes too s@it and they're already becoming forgotten. No point or desire to ever rewatch them.
Halloween 2 1981 is the best sequel in the franchise but I love 4 also 💪

I don't know man. I understand the thorn trilogy are classics, but even with all the hate Kills and Ends gets, the DGG trilogy is just better in my opinion. It's the nostalgia, the whole Laurie strode arc, we get the most brutal Myers, the masks are scarier, the music. Kills is so underrated

I watch the DGG trilogy more often and it’s not even close. I really like Halloween 4 so I am not sure why I don’t watch it more often. I love that you did the math towards the end to come to a conclusion that can be quantified.
I've watched the new trilogy quite a bit lately too David.
I enjoy all of the Halloween films except for Halloween 3. Halloween Resurrection. and I have mixed feelings about Halloween Ends. However, my favorites are Halloween (1978), Halloween 2 (1981), and Halloween (2018).

As I don't like Thorn idea, I really wouldn't mind Hellraiser Halloween. Pinhead bringing Michael like Freddy brought Jason but Michael can simply follow the Pinhead. I see potential.
These trilogies are a "mixed bag". For example: Halloween 4 might be my favorite film of the entire franchise🤔 But .... Part 5;to me- did a dis-service to the Rachel & Jamie characters, + part 6= good kills & introduced us to Paul Rudd(that's it). The DGG started off good with the 2018 film, Kills is brutal & great.... except for the townspeople's mantra- Evil dies tonight;what a joke. And finally, Ends.... as JLC stated in a pre-release interview: "Some viewers/fans are gonna be pissed @ this film."
My ranking: #6. Part 6. #5. Ends. #4. Part 5. #3. Kills. #2. Halloween 2018. #1. Part 4 duhhh😀.

Honestly it’s not hard for me. Halloween 4 & 5 were my introduction to horror. And while I loved Halloween 2018, Kills & Ends weren’t for me. Thorn easily.

It was very easy for me.
With DGG he has the best Myers & shot better. Oh and scored better But that's pretty much where it ends for Mr. 2018 a the whole Trilogy is just too bland. To me. Kills to too much and too Corny. Ends is just a wasted potential. A mess and nonsense. Non of the 3 are scaryz or suspenseful for most of it. Offers nothing new, for the most part.
With "Thorne"
Is simply more entertaining. At the end of the day that's what is all bout.
5 I can fun with at how bad it is. I can't say that with Kills & Ends
H4 alone is better than all of DGG entertainment wise. which again. Why we watch movies.
6 is the scariest out of the 6 films. Shit. One of the scariest of the whole franchises. And a lot of cool stuff in it we get Loomis. For real, real. Hell. him alone is another reason why I'd pick Thorn over DGG trilogy
H6 Michael is the most brustal cause he's also scary. So it just adds to his brutality. with Kills he's more like a Jason wannabe or something. I dunno Just doesn't work for me. Didn't really feel like I was watching Michael.
Ranking them, I would say...Fuck last 2 are like a tie... Today I'll go with...

As for story?
I dunno... DGG is less messy. Better written objectively but again it's also just so blah... nothing special. Nothing new. Overall. Not suspense. It's just... oh... Michael escaped again. Laurie sets up a trap for Michael escaped. The trap. Walked back to his house Killed some peeps on his way. Now he's hurt. Cause he got jumped. He goes to Laurie's home to kill her and gets thrown in a saw trap. Like... I dunno it maybe be more consistent story. than Thorne but I think it's just.. again, boring. Overall
The Thorne story. Though...not objectively a better written story. Michael back after many years now after his Niece. Is more different & entertaining. So when you break each story at their core one is more.. typical, dull, for the most part. The other is something more refreshing. And more suspense and scary overall . To me. So I like Thorne's Story better. As well.
You should do a three day watch like this:
Halloween 4 and 2018.
Halloween 5 and kills.
Halloween 6 and ends.
I love all three movies in the Thorn Trilogy. I love only 2 out of the 3 movies in the DGG trilogy. So, I’ve got to give the edge to the Thorn films. Though I really do love Halloween (2018) and Halloween Kills a lot. Also, I’ve always loved the Thorn concept.
It's interesting because I don't find 4 to have any THORN affiliation whatsoever. I still have fun with 5 and 6, but I just think they're bad films. While I'm not the biggest fan of 2018, I feel like the DGG movies got better as the trilogy went on.
6. Halloween 5- the last one on this list I'll go to rewatch
5. Curse- it's good and weird, but never has it been one of my faves
4. Kills- dumb story but great kill sequences
3- Halloween 4- a fantastic sequel
2- H18- this movie had me so hype when it came out and still does
1- Ends- so rewatchable and different. I like different to a certain degree
So I guess I'm on the DGG side of this
DGG Halloween Trilogy for me! The storytelling might be debatable for some fans but the continuity of Michael Myers's mask throughout the trilogy was Perfection, and Michael was truly terrifying! Also DGG's trilogy gets big points for the John Carpenter soundtrack because I think this was some of Carpenter's greatest piece of music since the OG film.
For me it is Thorn, they are all fun to watch and when they are bad, they are still campy fun. 5 is not a good film but Loomis beating Michael with a 2x4 until he has a stroke is priceless. DGG take its self way too seriously, The fire fighter scene and the flashback are AMAZING in KILLS, but their trying to make a point about mob mentality shtick was just so clumsily executed, awful but not in a fun way. Same thing with three, everyone in Haddonfield is way too much of a jerk, people don't act that way in person, just on the internet. And again when it is bad, it isn't fun bad.
Thorn, specifically H4 & H6. The vibes of the films were just different then. It’s crazy because I grew up watching all Halloween movies, aside from 6. I didn’t like it initially when I watched a few years ago. But now I like it a lot. Myers is a monster and the fall atmosphere is perfection.
Great ranking. H4 is my favorite and I love Danielle Harris in 4 and 5. DGG's trilogy story wise is kind of dog shit to me. By Ends, I didn't care about Michael but I cared more about Corey and Allyson lmao. The Thorn never really had Michael take a backseat though I didn't like 5 and I hated Jamie dying in H6. Both trilogies suffer from bad writing tbh lmao. H4 is amazing though. H2018 isn't that bad, but when it's apart of a trilogy it isn't the best but as a standalone it would of been better. I didn't like HKills because I felt the legacy characters were wasted. I didn't feel much of a connection to the characters till Ends when they kind of made me feel for the Corey and Allyson relationship. All 6 of these are entertaining though, even as bad as 5 is, I enjoyed seeing that version of Loomis and Danielle Harris again. She did abit more in 5.
I’d say I prefer the DGG trilogy. I enjoy both trilogies but I think DGG trilogy has more consistency than the thorn trilogy. Even with h ends that is easily the most different movie in the trilogy it still has a kind of logic. H5 didn’t feel a very natural progression from 4 and 6 screwed Jamie and Michael’s character treatment up. The point is I enjoy all of these 6 movies. But I think DGG is definitely more consistent, in terms of cinematography, characters, cast and even Michael Myers’s mask which is something sooooo inconsistent in the thorn trilogy. Despite all the bold risks of h ends I feel it’s still a natural progression from kills storywise)

Halloween 5(very gothic movie, a lot of weird things but in a kinda bad way but at the same time it is what makes it different)
Halloween 4 (great movie but not in my top favorites, I used to enjoy this movie better in the past)
Halloween 6 ( technically speaking it’s inferior than 4 but I prefer 6 because it’s more brutal, fun, looks better and the mask is better)
Halloween ends( I love this movie today just wish Myers was a bit more present)
Halloween 2018( great sequel to 1978)

I would prefer the “Thorn Trilogy” if it was actually wrapped up and had a better middle entry. “Curse” is actually one of my favorite in the franchise.
However, as polarizing as it may be, I prefer the David Gordon Green Trilogy, but only because it was wrapped up in the end.

Although I did enjoy the David Gordon green Halloween trilogy with the exception of the end of Halloween ends. I will choose Danielle Harris all day long... Her performance in H4 was sublime. Not to mention the fact that Ellie Cornell as Rachel was a badass babysitter / step sister.
Both trilogies are kinda disappointing, but the thorn trilogy has so much more of a soul, while DGG trilogy stylistically kept its atmosphere in tune with the atmosphere and mystique of earlier entries, the thorn trilogy had less to prove and less studio execs down their throat (a welcomed idea when considering Halloween 5)

5. Halloween 5 (I am a disgrace to fans) I appreciate the irony of the circumstances these ridiculously exaggerated characters are thrown into.

The Thorn trilogy isn’t really a trilogy, there’s no mention of the Thorn anywhere in 4. How it became a trilogy is really mind boggling. It’s just something people say. To me it’s the “Jamie trilogy”.
I’d have to choose DGG over thorn because 5 & 6 are just garbage. Kills is pretty bad but not on the level is 5 & 6. Ends has the lamest third act by far but I actually enjoy that story more than anything in 5 or 6. Halloween 4 is the best film between them all tho. Classic Halloween movie with the only bad thing being the mask. I’m not the mega fan of 4 like many but I acknowledge it’s a great Halloween sequel.
I cannot remember if I told you this before (off base) about what made me able to watch Halloween H20 again is I came up with a reason to tolerate the Michael Myers mask differences.. What if Michael wasn't even in the movie and it was actually a group ( like a cult) that went looking for Laurie ... All the different masks were different people acting like Michael Myers....
The DGG Trilogy wins, in my opinion. H4 is good but H5 and H6 are horrendous. I love H18 and HKills and HEnds is alright.
Here's an idea for you. I know people give Ends shit for various reasons, but are there any films in particular where they chose to replace the main antagonist with someone else and it worked to your satisfaction?
The more I watch the DGG trilogy the more I enjoy it as a whole. Sure it has problems. But I'll always have a soft spot for 4, 5 and 6.

The thorn trilogy is more entertaining and more unintentionally hilarious but its better for me. DGG was decent until ends pulled a last jedi and killed any goodwill for me.
The Thorn trilogy had Donald Pleasence, Jamie and Rachel so it is a pretty easy win for me.

Why do people constantly refer to the Thorn story arc as a trilogy? It may carry over a few characters, but there is ABSOLUTELY ZERO MENTION of Thorn in Halloween 4.
Doesn't have to be mentioned. It's a storyline that stays fluid from 4 - 6. And all have the Jamie Lloyd character. Hell 4 and 6 have George P.

Yeah Jack rocks.
Doing my own math with how I ranked both personally, DGG came out on top, even if my childhood love of Halloween was associated with Thorn, especially part 4.
Regarding Curse, take the brutal kills, atmosphere and finale of the theatrical cut, and most of the acting and plot development of the producer's cut, and that to me forms the best version of it, which I still consider among the most underrated. Unfortunately, 5 is little more than a guilty pleasure with good moments overshadowed by bad ones.
Green's trilogy by and large still stands up for me, despite the cringeworthy moments in Kills, and I still love the hell out of 2018, which is still my second favorite in the franchise. Ends is neck and neck with 4 for me, as I find both to be quite good in their own way, even if they do have their issues.
Always happy to revisit either trilogy, just depends on the mood.

I prefer the Thorn trilogy for sure though I feel the DGG trilogy gets more hate than it really deserves. But part 4 is clearly one of the best and part 6 to me is the most underrated in the franchise I feel that is the most intimidating version of Michael in the entire series. Part 6 Michael doesn't seem human at all.

Thorn and it’s not even close. That’s my fucking childhood. (This is coming from someone who likes 2018 & Ends & hates Kills). It’s not just the “Evil Dies Tonight” - it’s the “40 years ago”, it’s the “now we’re the monstersss”, It’s Cameron saying “he’s haunted my family for 40 years” despite the fact that his father Lonnie saw Michael for 5 seconds in 1978 at the age of 10. It stretched the concept of trauma to such an absurd degree. H4 is peak Halloween - I don’t think another sequel will ever be able to capture that lightening in a bottle.

Let me save all you lame Halloween fans who think the Green one was better. Meyers in "KILLS" at the end was unstoppable. Laurie said it with every kill he gets stronger!! The writers wrote that making it a trilogy where it all ends in one night. Then COVID HITS and they decide to change it. Now were all okay with this being 4 years later and Meyers is weak for no reason living in the sewer and now he is just an old human too who later after he kills the one guy that Cory brings to him we all think he is gaining strength and supernatural energy that doesn't make any sense at all in the end!!! This was the worst trilogy to happen to this franchise!!!
The DGG trilogy definitely sucked ass,I hated the silliness and cringe worthy one liners,it pissed me off.
Characters were terrible also 😩😩😩
