    Nice one! I never thought to highlight part of the grid like that for calculating beat divisions in ms! Super useful tip :)

    This only works with kicks a 16th note long or shorter, though. If you have a longer subby kick, it'll still be decaying out in the low end when the SC compressor has already finished releasing. That's why I'd rather just SC to the kick itself, and use quite a short release time.

    Honestly, I just use the Fruity Peak Controller and the Fruity Balance, I make the settings so it makes whatever the source signal is go up (Keep going, it will make sense later) and then I'll make a seperate insert in FL purely for sidechaining, routing saod things into it, and the putting a Fruity Balance on it and then linking the volume to the Peak Controller, but making it so it goes inverse so instead of increasing in volume, it lowers.
    The Peak Controller will also fold to the shape and sound of whatever you use, so if you want a snappy kick, use that, if not, then don't.
    Also the actual time of the Peak Controller of how fast it reacts to the source sound seems to be instant, its actually pretty crazy how fast it works.
    So for me, I get a kick and snare that sidechains perferctly to the sound of the kick and snare and also is instant and is shaped perfectly to the sidechaining of the stuff.
    Not that this method is bad, but doesn't seem as good from what I do already, but hey, whatever works amirite? :D

    Any reason not just to use the kick as the sc input and use the low-cut? When a kick is highpassed at like 200hz it's basically just a kick

    Instead of having a seperate sidechain trigger, I use fabfilter saturn's envelope generator and a couple of buses:
    1. Set kick & snares output to "DRUM BUS"
    2. Put fabfilter saturn on "ghost". Don't use distortion at all, instead open up an envelope generator and set threshold to ~ -10db, 0 attack, 0 sustain and short decay.
    4. Turn the output volume of Saturn all the way down, and route the envelope generator to the volume.
    3. set "ghost" track's input as DRUM BUS, but mute "ghost"s output so it doesn't go into the master.
    Now, whenever you have a compressor on any track, you can sidechain from the "ghost" bus. We created a 'sidechain trigger' using the envelope generator, whenever your kick & snare hit! No more setting up and matching a seperate sc trigger with the kick and snare!
    You can also set the track delay on "ghost" to a negative value, so that the sidechain will hit a little early

    why do you SC the whole bass group's frequency spectrum (as opposed to JUST the low end)

    So with in this method, sidechain eq section is useless ? which you have deactivated.

    What all is being affected by the sidechain compression? Do you sidechain the reverb?

    1 stupid question
    why do u always use 60000 in every calculation ?? (is it relevant to 60s per minute or something ???)

    Why not just use LFO Tool?

    • @MrBillsTunes
      @MrBillsTunes  7 років тому +1

      Isn't it just static? What about beats with lots of syncopated movement in them? (ie. not a 4/4 kick you're side-chaining to...) - I may be mistaken.

    • @KlareAudio
      @KlareAudio 7 років тому +1

      Mr. Bill i'm pretty sure you can use midi triggers in LFO Tool

    • @88res
      @88res 7 років тому +1

      It can be triggered by a midi input, so you're not limited to a 4 on the floor kick pattern. Although the one drawback of it is that the velocity of the midi input doesn't change the amount of sidechain applied (if you have a midi note with 50% velocity it will still sidechain normally, not 50% of the amount) but that may not be important to you. You can also automate the depth of it.

    • @matutozor
      @matutozor 7 років тому +1

      by using the same click/snappy sound to trigger his compressor, he is also always compressing the same amount either on kicks or snare hits. If you want more control over each beat using his method, you can use different volumes on the click samples to trigger more or less the compressor. Alternatively, you can also use two compressors in series with different compression amounts for the same sample or 2 LFO Tools in series with different setups.
