I have a pair of 8” locking surgical forceps that work well when unhooking big fish in rough water. Once you lock on to the hook, hang on. Often thrashing fish unhook themselves, if not a sharp flip will do the trick. I like the tool you’re using, a little more difficult to work with sometimes.
Nice vid those rays looked horrible. We have a lot of those crabs on the beach in Va. all the old heads call them calico crabs but I’m not sure if they are. when they wash up we will throw them out and we’ve caught striper black drum and red drum with them. Prime bait

Those crabs might be a family called Ovalipes and it might be Ova. ocellatus
I remember Brian Harrington keeping the ray on a back rod for a teaser
They crushed em’ that day and no doubt this crew has what it takes to make it happen again.
