      @@terrytorres7075 it just means you hybrid battery is low on charge. This can happen naturally in many different scenarios. It generally does not indicate a problem unless you are consistently seeing it drop to two bars and very quickly.

    I found this channel 8 months ago and I bought my reader. Never got around it and I was desperately looking for this video. Thank god I found it.. honestly the best video for ALL PRIUS OWNERS! thank you.

    Hello, thank you so much for this info. It was the first very hot summer day and I drove my Toyota hybrid (Nimh) with AC off. After a while I noticed the ic-engine wouldn't turn off and electric driving was not possible. After parking in the shade with AC blasting and cooling down the cabin, the car would drive again in EV mode. (Till it heated up again, because AC was off again). I was figuring already it had something to do with the battery temps and some sort of safety program kicking in to preserve the battery health. Did I damage the battery? Or did the system do its thing to play it safe? According to your paper up to the 2 minute mark in the video, what would you say what temps was the battery seeing? Was the system already imposing a discharge limit? (Fuel consumption was getting worse). After this experience I'll use the AC, but only because of the battery. No other reason.

      Check online mobile after-market battery replacement, they will come to your address and rep,ace in 45 min, charging you, (2024 rates) between $2K-3K, while Toyota dealership will charge you at least two times more. Sure above cheaper price is for refurbished cells, while Toyota - for brand new hybrid battery

    Great video. I have a prius C. If the heat rises too high, can it permanently ruin the battery? Or would the system limit the use of the hybrid engin and thus forcing more use of the gas engine?
    Another question, I have noticed that when I shut off the car, the battery chart is at 70% but sometines when I go in the next day, the battery chart is down to 1 or 2 bars. Does the hybrid battery somehow lose it's charge over night? Can a hot night cause the battery to lose it's charge?
    When you say killer of battery in the video? Are you refering to short term efficiency? or Permanent?
    Thanks in advance.

    Thanks for making this video. Out of curiosity, where do you pick up all the info you learned about this app and hybrid batteries/priuses (the app seems to have relatively decent documentation, but it doesn't seem to go into much detail about applying everything on the screen to optimize for performance and reliability, which I'm more interested in)?

    • @HEVTech1

      Most of what I make videos on is either my own research or observation from real world use.
      If there's anything in particular you would like covered in a future video let me know and I can touch on it.
      The app goes far more in detail than an average person would need or want but the stock prius hybrid system indicator is too simple so using the app in a more limited capacity has been a perfect balance for me.

    Thanks for review! So on my 2017 Prius Prime I just bought used a month ago with 30k miles, it's better use the charger it came with and slowly charge for 5 hours, instead of purchasing a fast charger from Toyota for $500 to charge in 2.5 hours, because you said batteries don't like fast charging at 2min40sed in your video? At 6min 35sec, you say your Charge Current Limit of -23.5kW is limited by braking, normally it is -25kW. Are you implying your regenerative braking is limited by the difference of 1.5kW, or at 13min40sec the difference of 4kW of 25kw CCL - 21kW DCL gives more regenerative braking power? Or did I misunderstand what you tried to teach us? Thanks so much!

    • @HEVTech1
      @HEVTech1  3 роки тому +3

      I was referring to the regular (not plug-in) prius for my stats referenced.
      When the battery is within normal operating temps it will only allow regen braking to charge the battery at 25kW and discharge limit would max out at 21kW. The prime uses a Li-ion pack so chances are these numbers are much smaller than you would see in hybrid assistant.

    I wonder how representative of the actual battery temperature that probe is reading. If the thermistor is sitting between the individual batteries, then it may be reading more of the cool air you are flushing through with the fan than the actual battery temperature.

    • @HEVTech1
      @HEVTech1  4 роки тому +3

      The temperature probes are at the very bottom of each module and they are recessed a little bit while also making contact with the module.
      The air flows between modules to cool them down. The Temps as a result do not fluctuate very quickly on the readout which I've always interpreted to mean the data is accurate. If I was reading air temperature I would expect it to fluctuate quite a bit.

    • @amazoidal
      @amazoidal 3 роки тому +1

      Many people place all 3 modules in the center for more accurate response. The 2010 thermistors are on the top of the battery. Be careful with the thermistor harness. Do not break off a thermistor! The wire is hard to solder. And Toyota does not sell a new harness!

    The warranty has been 100k or 10yrs since at least my 2007 prius. The problem is that Toyota doesn't honor it. The warranty doesn't say how bad the battery must be before they would replace it. My 07 prius with 65k mi had no power and mpg reduced to around 30mpg, but the battery management could still charge it some so Toyota said no. I had to buy it myself to get back power and milage in the high 40s. Toyota doesn't participate in the BBB so you're screwed. No honor with toyota.

    • @gregyohngy
      @gregyohngy 3 роки тому +2

      I had an inverter water pump go on me and my dashboard turned off. Toyota said it would have been covered, but no one told us in time.
      FYI, the Amazon $50 inverter water pump is terrible! Replaced multiple times, until I bought the Gates that costs $100's.
      Battery tip... Avoid A/C or going above 55 mph. When the pump was broken, my car still drove and didn't get excessive heat to shut it off by no AC and no speeding.

    • @amazoidal
      @amazoidal 3 роки тому +1

      You are way out of warranty. It's 10 years or 100k, whichever comes first in California. Other states may be 8 years. You need to get Dr. Prius and test your battery. Another easy test is find a long hill and accelerate up it. If you get bucking and hesitation, at least one module has high Internal Resistance.
