Good job, Guy Dauncey--and Doug White! I learned some important things here, particularly about the James Douglas treaty. It is noteworthy that Gov. Douglas mother was Martha Ann Ritchie, a free woman of colour who had been born in Barbados. Undoubtedly this cross-cultural connection inspired him to be as fair-minded as he was to his Aboriginal brothers an sisters on Vancouver Island.
