The Meaning of the Jesus Fish Symbol (ICHTHUS)

- You may have seen a simple fish symbol as a bumper sticker on cars, but it is actually a very ancient symbol for Jesus. There are a lot of references to fish in the Bible, but the symbol doesn't actually refer to a Biblical story. It actually refers to the Greek word for fish: ICHTHYS.
It was illegal to be a Christian in the Roman Empire for hundreds of years. Christians in the early Church had to worship in secret to avoid persecution and death. So, they used many symbols to secretly refer to Jesus Christ. One of those symbols was a fish.
The word for fish in Greek is Ichthys (or Ichtus). Christians turned that word in to an acronym: ΙΧΘΥΣ. ICHTHUS means:
I = Iesus (Jesus)
CH = Christos (Christ)
TH = Theos (God)
Y = Yios (Son)
S = Soter (Savior)
Therefore, the Jesus fish symbol means ICHTHYS, or "Jesus Christ, Son of God, Savior."

Ichthys is the Greek work for fish... from my biology class. It seems that that key point was glossed over which makes this a very cool teaching...

To get more in depth,the Greek word for fish is "ΙΧΘΥΣ" and the phrase you can spell is "Ιησούς Χριστός Θεού Υιός Σωτήρ" with the meaning of "Iesous(the Greek equivalent for Jesus) Christos(Christ) Theou(of God)

This explanation is backwards. It is like how the 1st letter of the planets were later used to form rhymes for memorization. The rhyme wasn't used to name the planets.
The fish symbolism predates the persecution days you mention. It comes from the location of the son (Sun) in the sky (zodiac) it was in the constellation Pisces during that time. Just like before that tt was in the constellation Aeries, the ram (during the time of Moses etc). Now it is in the constellation Aquarius.

The problem with Zeitgeist is that, they tried too hard to discredit the Bible and Jesus, thus they had to mix vague assumptions together with legit info. So yes I also know and have criticized some of the info in zeitgeist. If you go to the movie page here on youtube and search through the comments, you would find mine from years ago points out mistakes. But there is indeed some truth in that documentary.
It would have been helpful if you wrote why these links are relevant to me, e.g. how does the history of the zodiac book conflict with what I said, or why is the article on Hipparchus related?

I was reading some of the comment section, WOW there's some angry people out there. A symbol or image can mean a lot of different things, to a lot of different people. Weather it's a fertility, math, Jesus symbol or all of the above. Symbol's have been used, re-used and adopted by other cultures over and over again. Then get forgotten by history or reinterpreted until the original meaning is lost forever. I can't say if ancient Christians used this symbol or not. But modern Christians have definitely adopted it. Never hear this example. Most think of the time he feed 5k with 5 loaves and 2 fish yet the fish where never passed to the disciples "that I saw thus far". I like the fact you did your research and learned a bit about the age of pisces and the age of aquarius and it most certainly is of great importance to occultists as well as indigenous cultures world wide. This is not, however, a call to follow "Lucifer" as he rules the Earth under a "One World Order", rather that is one hypothesis of what kind of thing may occur. This is in fact true. The Jesus fish represents the vulva. Not to be confused with vagina.
