I wish I had the knowledge you just shared with me in the past, yet even so, I remember one day I had FIVE JWs in my place and I had a chance to witness to them. I started where we could agree, that Jesus died for our sin. When I got deep into it they suddenly HAD to leave. More recently a couple of men visited me, and they were a little caught off guard that I had my Bible right there. Then the one guy said something about, "The Greek word for" such and such in a particular verse actually means...and he went on to tell me. I leaned forward and opened up my Greek/English interlinear Bible to that verse. I didn't have all the answers you had, but they clearly were not expecting someone as knowledgeable and using the resources right there, while he was using a tablet to access his Bible. Now I know where to go to get some more resources. Thank you sister. I love your videos.
Interesting encounter. They were not being honest with you if they said that they agreed that Jesus died for “our” sin. The Watchtower teaches that Jesus died for Adam’s sin only. They call it “Aramaic sin”. I’ve had this same experience where they seem to be in agreement when they are actually allowing the conversation to continue by not being forthcoming with what they actually believe to be scriptural. Honestly the conversation would go nowhere quickly if they were open and honest. This is how they are trained to deal with people outside of the organization, by being deceitful. You cannot trust them in this way at all. They will say that Jesus is their lord and savior too. The meaning of this is not what Christians hold to. This is why defining the terms is the first step. Never assume there is an agreement of definition. It’s exhausting and discouraging to say the least. I’ve been excited to think there is some agreement and move past that only to find out that was never the case and the motive was just manipulation all along. Pray for the Holy Spirit to go before you and protect you and help to discern in order to protect your heart from the hurt and deceit they will try to inflict on Jesus followers. Remember that Paul warns us about the battle is with the powers and principalities of evil and darkness. The jw’s are the pawns of this power. It’s not simple or easy to get authentic light into this kind of darkness which masquerades as light to the ones that are being deceived.
This is so true , my soon to be ex-husband was shunned in the beginning of our relationship. His family wouldn't even come to our wedding. He eventually decided to go back to his religion JW . Which was not only confusing but made things difficult. I am a Christian, so even though at the time I was excited that's was letting God in his life, just to find that there was alot of conflict in his beliefs JW beliefs compared to the Bible. Which now has lead to be one of his reasons in a divorce which is sad. I was looking into his religion to learn more, too consider, asked him many times to show what he is saying in the Bible. Just send me the scripture. He was never ae too.
I continu to pray for him for his heart for his salvation. Fir God's turth to break through.
Okay so I’m extremely struggling with my close friend Brandee, she grew up and has been baptized under the JW organization and for the life of me she just won’t leave me alone with trying to get me to become a witness. It’s so heartbreaking for me. I really feel like she’s manipulating me and trying to brainwash me. She KNOWS that I’m a born again Christian and she KNOWS that I am new with my journey on Faith. And I feel so manipulated by this organization. All I honestly wanted was someone who can walk on this journey with me. Someone who can teach me about the Bible. At first I thought it was a gift from God when she happen to get back in contact with me after being away for so long. Now that I’m on lesson 8 “how can you be Jehovah’s friend”, I just want to be done with them and their deceit. But I love Brandee and I want to help her see the TRUTH. How can I help her see the truth if I’m new and learning too??
I'm sorry you are in such a dilemma. I am a born-in JW and have been waking up for the past couple of years (Praise the Most High).
I personally believe that those outside the Organization such as yourself, are in the best position to help wake people up.
Baptized JWs can't ask sincere questions like you can, bc other JWs will think they lack trust in Jehovah's Organization or that they are into apostate stuff.
But JWs are trained to think about and respond to questions of those who are genuinely interested.
Personally I do have strong faith in Scriptures still, and I have been delving into what Scriptures themselves teach and not people.
My best advice for you if you want to help her is to
1. Pray
2. Prove the Scriptures to yourself. In addition to reading the Bible through itself, I personally suggest the study things topically by reading every verse on a topic and looking at what everything together lines up and shows (and always reading the context of the surrounding text.)
It is also good to compare translations and look at the interlinear.
3. When preparing to discuss a topic, take advantage of the articles on the online library that will show you how JWs explain things. All JWs will use pretty much the same explanations in the publications. You can know what they'll say before you even talk to them. And you can look for gaps in their reasoning.
4. Try to ask Scriptural questions JWs can't answer.
As a previously indoctrinated JW, I can tell you that nothing about our history would have ever woken me up.
It was reading Scriptures in context with the help of Holy Spirit that woke me up.
You also face the danger of shipwrecking a JWs complete faith in Scriptures if you use JW history to wake them up initially. The Organization so cleverly intertwines the Bible with themselves that many who realize the Organization is not telling the truth about everything will become atheist, bc as a JW you think this is the only truth, it is all or nothing.
On the other hand, if you use Scriptures to wake up a JW, if they are responsive, they see that the Scriptures tell a different account than their beliefs and then their faith begins to separate from their faith in the Organization.
There are some things I do believe JWs are correct about, but like Satan, they mix truth with lies so it is hard to distinguish sometimes. They do have a lot of conduct that others can learn from, with a couple exceptions I disagree with, but so many teachings are not fully based on truth.
As I've woken up, I've yet to find any religion that gets everything completely accurate. No one knows it all, we all have to grow and mature as individuals, and while we do want to mutually encourage and gather other Christians, we can't base our faith on the faith of others. We have to look to our Master and what He taught us through His life and the Scriptures.

I am so grateful to God that a Former Witness now sisters in Christ 💕💕 were able to do research on their own and find the truth I’m trying to lead my friend Brandee too. And that’s all I’ve ever tried to do. I never disrespected Brandee. I absolutely do not hate her or the followers/believers of the organization. Ultimately we are all Gods People. I just feel so heartbroken that she’s actually a born-in JW. This was something that she never told me. I was not aware of this fact and because she told me that she was born and raised and baptized as a JW, it made me even have more of a heart of compassion and understanding that this really isn’t her fault. How can one know better if this is what they’ve been taught their entire lives. I mean she was baptized at 12 and been with the organization for as long as I could remember and she’s merging into mid-30s now. That’s a long time to have such a strong deep rooted faith and connection with in the organization. I definitely will be reaching out to you via email and I can’t wait to share more with you. I think it’s important that as Christians whether we are seasoned or new and learning like me. I believe we ALL have a responsibility to help those who are being led astray. That’s the problem I think most Christians have whether it’s people or our churches. And it’s EVERY denomination alike. The minute they hear anything about JWS they get turned off but why. I understand the issue of doctrine and the Hersey and false teachings, etc. BUT it isn’t the witness fault. Most times these people are born into these organizations. Some people do willing choose it but they may not have know what they know now and I know for a fact that once you’re in, it’s even harder to get out. That’s being victimized and manipulated literally. And because of this fact I have so more love and patience towards JWs I no longer am angry or just quick to reject them because I believe that if we can preach the gospel to a nonbeliever there should be NO difference when or if we are approached by a JW. Instead of being angry why not love on them and teach them just like Melissa said. Do it in love. Christians most times They see JWs and automatically begin to condemn them or be mean to them, some even go to far to prove a simple point to them. It’s wrong. We shouldn’t act as if we hate them. It has not been easy process at all trying to get her to see what I see when comparing scriptures but i don’t think easy is the problem. It’s me trying to get her to question the intentions and history of the organization that’s the biggest challenge. Because I want to respectful yet 100% blunt with hard facts. It won’t be easy but I do believe God shows us favor for trying all we can do is try to help one another and maybe one day she’ll actually see the light and wake up!!. So... I've listened to this video several times, for the info and because I love your voice. I can't believe I missed it... But at 1:02:20 (give or take a few seconds) you said about their stance on blood transfusions, "This is a fluid belief of theirs." Seriously? 🤣🤣🤣 A fluid belief! I can't even!! You're the best. thanx for all your work... I have several people I care for that I've started engaging with more to try to stimulate their mind's into following Biblical Truth.... it's a long process, but I still feel Compelled to do it. lala
I once joined the "TRUE Church of Christ" (emphasis is mine). They taught oppressive doctrine, e.g., if you leave the TCoC, God might take the Holy Spirit away, like He did to Saul. Not nice. Also, that playing my guitar was forbidden, even at home. I'm a musician. Lol.
Anyway, I was "Shunned" at the local level, and when we attended a multi-church conference, they announced to the whole group that I was "Withdrawn from" for a personal sin. That was when I began to wake up and realize that they were a cult. I left a few months later.
That’s why!!!!! Thank you. My parents were jw when I was young and I got caught up on new age believes since teenager.... with the believe “more light comes in” thank you! I prayed yesterday to break generational curses and new age curses! Great to hear this to make logical sense to me!

@@SheilaTrueLove years ago, when I was still in, one of the videos they released had one of the governing body members saying that "witnesses aren't pacifists".
This bothered me, because it was a blatant lie, that we all knew was a lie, and it was directed at us. His implication was that we would go to war if it the circumstances were right, but most witnesses don't even believe in practical self defense preparation if it isn't peaceful. Looking back it feels like gaslighting.

In their book "Reasoning From the Scriptures" page 97 (and is also on the JW website) it states: "Before the last members of the generation that was alive in 1914 will have passed off the scene, all the things foretold will occur, including the 'great tribulation' in which the present wicked world will end. -- Matt. 24:21, 22, 34." I doubt there are any 106-year-old JW's in existence.

My in laws are all JW's -- very kind, pleasant and even loving towards our family when we are in their company (but then we've never been JW's). However, when paying close attention to their conversations, habits and actions -- it's easy to spot where they are spiritually misguided because of our own biblical studies which has led to understanding and belief. My only regret in life is -- I did not find Jesus sooner. Look forward to the next video and also the seed-dropper video. Thank You Melissa for all you do.

As a former JW ... look at Micah 6:8
.. it used to say “.. what is Jehovah asking back but to exercise justice and to love kindness ...”. The new New World Translation was changed to read “... to exercise justice, to CHERISH LOYALTY”. .. totally different meaning .. the same change was also made in this new version of the Bible in 32 other scriptures! Do you see an agenda here? Loyalty to who or to what? Their latest assemblies have focused on not giving up and staying in the organization.

I really like this more Concise yet in depth videos you are doing on JW's, I remember your series of teachings you did with your church 7 years ago, SO full of information and I WISH I had learned those a few years ago I REALLY screwed up on trying to witness to a JW at work, and he will NOT talk to me anymore. In 1995 the Mexican-American singer Selena Quintanilla-Perez was murdered by her fan club president Yolanda Saldivar. What a lot people don't know is that Selena could have been saved if she had had immediately been given a life saving blood transfusion. Her father had refused to allow this because of the family's Jehovah's Witnesses' beliefs.
Sounds a lot like the Seventh Day Adventist 'Heavenly Sanctuary' where they claimed that Jesus went into the Most Holy Place in 1844.
Note that first it was a prophecy about the Second Coming that was first dated a years before.
People sold what they had only to realize that didn't come through.
Some zealots recalculated the dates and placed a few months after which they were sure that Jesus would come in bodily form to the Earth.
Again, people sold all what they had! They may have said last goodbyes!
When that prophecy did not come true again they were utterly disappointed ☹️.
In fact, that 1844 became known as the Great Disappointment!
However, all is not lost.
A then young girl by the name of Ellen G Harmon, who later became known as Ellen G White, figured it out!
They say the prophecy date was not wrong. Only, the event was wrong.
So Ellen G White is self declared and venerated prophetess of the Seventh Day Adventist even up to this date.
She claimed to receive inspiration from God that in 1844 Jesus moved from the Holy to the Most Holy Place in the Heavenly Sanctuary!
They based their doctrine on the fact that God showed in sky/Heaven Moses the design of the Sanctuary to be built by the People of Israel and and believe that there's a literal sanctuary in Heaven.
That doctrine actually goes contrary to the Finished Work of Christ when at his death declared "It is Finished"!
They, SDA, seem to forget that the veil that divided the Holy from the Most Holy Place in the Temple/Sanctuary was ripped into two signifying the end of Sanctuary/Temple services and ceremonies.
Jesus Christ was the perfect Lamb that was sacrificed. Jesus, at his death, became the High Priest that offer himself as once and for all thus the end of Sanctuary Ministration.
When Jesus after his resurrection, the Bible states that he went to the Father and was sat at His side on the Throne!

This is also practiced by the Church of Christ denomination which is what I grew up in. I left 13 years ago, been shunned and disfellowshipped by the entire church congregation and nearly all of my family. Can you please do a study on the Church of Christ? They call themselves the Lord's Church, the ONE TRUE CHURCH. They totally deny their own founder, Daniel Sommer who split from the Disciples of Christ in Sand Creek Illinois in August 1889 , mainly over the disagreement of the use of instruments used for worship.

Praise God for people God can use to spread the TRUTH....my brother's girlfriend has seen the falsehood of the JW's and has come out of that cult. Now she is hungry for the truth and searching. I am believing God will reveal the truth to her now. I believe from our conversations He is preparing her heart to receive. I feel sorry for her family...although they are currently shunning her (except her brother who is now a Christian!) her mom will occasionally call our mom to ask how she is doing. It must be really difficult. We are praying for the whole family

Shunning is a common practice in the evangelical small group (that i used to attend). Irregular attendees, those who can't blend into their program or elite social group. Sad...
As a Christian, I feel like some of these arguments can be used against Christians as well by nonbelievers. There are some respected Christian leaders out there who have made false prophecies, to which when a nonbeliever questions our faith, we would respond by saying they didn't really hear from God. And I can hear them saying "That's a weak defense..."
I'm really enjoying this series but can't help finding myself seeing this from a secular POV towards Christians (instead of JW)
In a way I understand what you're saying but the difference is the fact that most Christians know and accept that some 'men of God' can give false prophecies and the bible clearly tells us that by their fruit you shall know them. But my understanding is that JWs don't think their organization can be wrong and therein lies the difference.

Re: shunning. Talk about extreme? On Goatlike Personality's Channel they mentioned a case in which a 14 year old girl ( baptized at the age of 12) was told by her parents that if she refused to go to meetings and door-to-door, she would be put up for adoption. Seriously!

Do you consider when a mother breast feeds her child is seen as eating blood? What does the organization say about this? To me, that seems closer to eating blood than blood transfusions but I’m not entirely sure of their view on it.

Hey Melissa as always amazing work and a beautiful heart for this community. I recently just started my own channel speaking out against watchtower and the response is Huge and alittle over whelming. What advice can you give me about handling the comment section ex. People attacking the trinity, Jesus deity or just plan attaching my beliefs now, am I obligated to respond or is that “casting my pearls” so to speak. How do you handle the comment section?
I think they don’t celebrate birthday and holidays bc Satan doesn’t want happy celebrations. He has them in his bag and that’s not enough, ‘let’s take joyous occasions and festivities away.’
What's the JW Czar talk to in my area Minnesota they can research but they just can't go into anything that is going to talk negatively about their religion but they can watch videos I send them I need suggestions on what I could send them that doesn't save a w in it that would help

Myself, not having a significant bond with anyone at all, is having a difficult time understanding how bad being shunned/disfellowshipped is apparently supposed to be.
Thankyou for this info.. lots of excellent points and resources.. I have family that are still witnesses and I was one for over 20 yrs.. so thankful to be out for 5 yrs now.. I will use points in this video to share as able.. I have done much research over the years and I have many notes but it is nice to have a compilation in one video.. so again thankyou...there are just a couple of things you may want to ponder.. JWs are politically neutral.. they are not against government ..they respect government but they give relative subjection to govt.. meaning their absolute subjection is to God. They obey govt except if govt asks them to do something God forbids.. they do not go to war because they believe God does not want them to.. based on what Jesus said..to love your enemies and Jesus told Peter to put his sword down when he tried to defend Jesus in Garden of Gethsemene.. and he said something like he who uses sword will perish by sword..I personally do not believe in war either because of what I read in the Bible about Jesus and I also do not practice patriotism because I do not feel any country is better than the other.. I have travelled to many places rich and poor and there is beautiful culture and variance wherever you go.. developed countries do offer better public services but have problems in other areas.. I think it is important not to be prideful about where or how you live.. Love is the answer to all things.. Jesus taught law of love.. it is challenging to show love and have love in all situations but we nonetheless must strive to do so.. going to war, supporting armaments, killing of other people and having pride in the way of patriotism does not seem to me to go along with love.. just some thoughts to ponder and I would love to hear your thoughts in this area.. blessings!!
I have been shunned, even though I was not a JW, as I was married to a JW, but now we are divorced and she has shunned me even though we have a child but, I must supply child support, but we are not communicating because of her. Ist very highly confusing to me.
@Melissa Dougherty my husband and I just got a letter invite to a "memorial of Jesus' death" on the envelope they listed their p.o. box and I was thinking about writing them back on the death and resurrection of Jesus and the gospel. Do you have a video describing what the JW Memorial of Jesus' death means for JW's?

It's an issue of absolute truth vs relative truth. Absolute truth is true no matter the place, the person or the time. Relatvistic truth depends

In my petty sinful self I desired to snap that scripture about weaning being at 3 years old and send it to my mother-in-law for the slack I caught for allowing my children to nurse until almost three. Oh the tsk tsk tsk and rolled and slanted eyes that went down when I would allow them to nurse. Sigh. I will refrain. Forgive me Lord

We have to remember to still walk in love bc it is truth to them.
I have an elderly couple as friends who are JW. I've known them for years. We have great discussions about all sorts of things. I do a bible study with them too. But I will not become a JW myself because the Bible says get out of her my people, meaning all organised religion. That includes JWs.
I continue to have my social time with them, dinner together, lots of ordinary chit chat convos & some excellent spiritual ones also.
I have learnt a lot from them.

I grew up as a JW, I was never baptized nor shunned,however I was threatened to be thrown out just because my father didn't like my boyfriend as he was not a witness. The religion does nothing but harm people.

Did you hear that the door to door JWs walk and talk as slowly as they can because they think they get credits for the time they spend doing the work?
I can personally attest to that fact. One is viewed as spiritually strong the more hours they put in per month, typically 10 hours a month is considered.a good standard.
I listen to and: gambling is already allowed as long as you win you show generosity (give part of the organization). ps when did they admit they were wrong? they only admitted that the lower-ranking members of the organization were stupid because they misinterpreted 100% correct statements of the governing body.

additionally, the social activity the scripture is speaking about here (not eating with such an individual) has to deal with not sharing in spiritual fellowship. Which ironically is exactly what the Watchtower does in order for a DF'd person to return, they must attend meetings. Its not perfect parallel, but the first century Christians would not have allowed an unrepentant wrongdoer to "attend church" with them. However, they were encouraged to disciple them since this is the primary christian mandate to make disciples of all nations.

I remember when my father was a Watchtower (I do not refer to them by the name they call themselves,) and during that time I had to call him on the telephone to speak with him. Every time one of them came by, he would abruptly hang up, and in my visit in 2014, a portion of the time was spent trying to proselytize me.

She’s not an enemy. She’s more like a journalist who’s just pointing out the facts. Very factual information. These were all shocking to me when I started researching. For starters look at CT Russell’s book, Divine Plan of the Ages wherein he outlines his End Times prophecies based on measurements of the Great Pyramid of Giza coupled with Adventist based bible chronology. Or if you’re inclined to muster up the courage to face the truth honestly; look up Rutherford’s book Millions Now Living WiLL NeVer Die. Spoiler alert: they all died 🙁
