Yeah, or plastic with a support on the bottom of the front fender that drops down lower to actually keep mud and water from flipping up in the front and rubber washers all around. Thanks for the support, I appreciate it!

I put MTB bars and saddle on mine. IMHO it helps out the looks and capability of the bike. I put neoprene washers on each side of the rear fender and that stopped the noise. If I didn’t ride in rain and snow the fenders would go away. If I didn’t use it to get groceries with removable panniers while RVing, the rack would go away too. Thank you for all of your videos, really helped with the decision on my second e-bike purchase. Got the word from another channel that the factory had stock so I pulled the trigger fast. Ordered the Titian orange Freedom on March 5th and received it only two days later on March 7th! Illinois to Maryland, how great was that?? I too went without the fenders, I think it looks so much better this way. The only issue I'm having so far is that I'm getting a fair amount of travel in the rear, even when I have the shock on lockout. I only have two rides under my belt at this point so I'll keep an eye on things. Safe travels everyone!
Good way to keep fender rattle down is spray the underside of the fenders with spray on under coating, really hepls with sound deadening, it's readily available at auto part stores and hardware stores
Have you tried “centering” your brakes? Loosen the two bolts that hold your brake calipers so that it can just barely wiggle. Then while squeezing the brake levers, tighten both of the screws back down on the calipers. Release the brake lever.
Inadequate fenders grind my gears. They should leave them off, or put effective fenders on, stopping half the mud spraying up my back only keeps my back half clean. In my Magnum Peak T5 the rear fender was hopeless so I replaced it with a Mudrocker fender, which while pricey for a piece of plastic, works brilliantly. The front fender I replaced with the now spare rear fender, plus I reversed the existing front fender and added it back on for extra protection. I'm in Oregon so currently cycling is very wet.
@@leetjohnson I'm thinking of possibly riding some of the coastal 101 this Summer, hard on a regular bike but with power to get up the hills it would be beautiful.
I received my Wired Freedom yesterday. I see what you mean with the front headlight fender mount. It is a cheesy set up. It was designed for failure. I broke the headlight mount trying to tighten it up. I didn't put much torque on it. I sent Wired an email and they said put blue loctite on it, which it already came with loctite on it. The bolt is also way longer than it needs to be. The bike is really nice, it is a shame to put something so flimsy on it,
Yeah, it's definitely a weakness that could be easily fixed. I'm sure Wired will change that setup to a more robust and even smaller, more dependable option. Thank you for your feedback, I appreciate it!
I tried doing the no fender thing, then I got so sick of me and the bike getting muddy when I went through the SMALLEST puddle or dirty area. Putting my fenders back on.
Yeah, it is a bummer to get muddy. I'm in California, so we're almost done with the rain for the next 8 or 9 months. Not a bad idea to put them on in the winter/early spring, then remove them for summer/fall, depending on where you love and how you ride. Thanks for sharing your experience, I appreciate it!
I removed my fenders. I don't ride in the mud and rain.. I was able to get the rear fender off without removing the rear wheel by deflating the tire and a very small ratchet.
Same here, ended up cutting my allen wrench down to get the job done, just didn't want to take that rear tire off first thing out of the box. This thing is an absolute beast, I think it looks pretty mean without the fenders!
Thanks for the info on the fenders. I have the same bike arriving Wednesday. I’m going to keep my fenders. If I find there is noise, I’m thinking of spraying the underside with automotive undercoating. Or some type of sound deadening coating. And probably using rubber grommets where the holding screws go through the fender. Thanks again for bringing this to our attention.
It definitely sounds way better...my issue is I think I like having fenders as I ride in a lit of different weather situations so it looks like I am going to play around with ribber washers and dampening
I totally get it, the rubber washers should do the trick...let me know how it sounds if you add them! Were you getting the same rattling sound on yours?
I think your problem with your front shock having lateral movement might be the fact that it does not have rebound adjustment. Unfortunately, these kinds of problems are very common for inexpensive shocks.
I just assembled my Freedom today!!!! I removed headlight, both fenders and rack... Trying to figure out what to do with the brake light? Was thinking of just cutting the cord as I won't really be riding in traffic, just trails and such.. Good advice< I try and yield to all encountered trail users, especially ones with Dogs or Equestrians. Like you said, it's easy to stop... Easy to start up again. Good to be respectable and courteous to others.@@leetjohnson
You keep the bike rack on because you need to buy a milk crate that is 19x13x11 that you will secure by using zip ties purchased at Home Depot right? Use 10 zip ties. This way you'll be able to grocery shop and not use the car to waste gas. O.K. ?
Guess what , I cut about a 4" section off a 20" bike tube and ran the bolt through it for both mounting spots on the rear fender between the fender and the frame . No noise whatsoever , plus you don't even see it .
I had a problem with my fork bottoming and hitting the threaded end of the light/fender bolt. I traded it out for a shorter hex button head and fed it through from back to front with lock washers and thread-locker. Like the bike without fenders! Unfortunately, when I travel, I ride in mud, rain and snow while shuttling drifts when fly-fishing. So, fenders remain.
@@leetjohnson,… Went for a ride today on a wet road. That front fender is almost worthless. I’ll give it a wet trail ride to finalize my decision but that doesn’t change my mind it is history.
@Doc.Holiday I agree, it doesn't do much. Would have been much better if it went a lot lower down the front wheel to keep stuff from flying up onto the bike/rider.
@@johnsanders561 … good idea! If it becomes a big problem I can rig up a removable clip on flap. I’m formulating the beginnings of a conceptual design in my head. 👍
I agree, probably just some growing pains with a brand new bike. They have already made significant changes to the suspension since the 2023 came out, so I'm sure they can make these small changes easily. Thanks for watching!
I have zero rattle with either fender with stock installation. Don’t know why his do, possibly something is bent slightly or loose? Also I like the look of the fenders and get small rocks and debris kicked up into them from time to time so I wouldn’t want to remove them. To each their own.
I’ve only got a little over 100 miles on mine. Since it doesn’t rattle at the start and did over time with yours, it’s got to be something loosened up a bit or warped etc. I was on a ride today that took me through just a bit of gritty slightly damp mud. That powerful motor really threw a bunch of debris up onto the bike but the fenders did work as intended and blocked a lot of it. Still made a bit of a mess. I’d say if one is doing any off-roading or ever have to ride through mud or very wet conditions they probably want to keep the fenders, they definitely help keep mud off the chain, gears and electrical components.
Great video! I ordered my bike Sunday and received it today so only 2 days after ordering. I watched this because I'm putting my bike together tomorrow and definitely not riding it with fenders or rack. Hopefully i can figure something out how to put the light back on. Is it possible to just unplug the rear light if i can't mount it anywhere?
Awesome! You can definitely just unplug the light if you can't find somewhere to mount it. I was looking at zip tying it to under the seat, but that required going up the rear suspension with the cable, so I kept the rack for now. Let me know how it goes and what you decide to do!
@leetjohnson thanks man! Yeah I definitely let you know what I do, I'm going to put it together tomorrow can't wait! I put 2,200miles on Aventon sinch and wanted something with more power
Just bought an Engwe (in UK, so wired not sell Here, it was my first choice) it comes with out fenders(mudguards to us Brits). Mud gets everywhere on frame, wiring, suspension, me.( face clothes, glasses!!). Every bike I ever owned I put mudguards on. And so fast now these electric. Leave em on people. !!
I'd also prefer wearing a Camel Pak to carry extra gear and hydration rather than the rack... Rack could come in handy for carrying heavier loads though, like beer.. lol.. ; )
Good question. I didn't use the insurance and didn't have any issues. Does the insurance include the return shipping cost if there is an issue? I'm not familiar with the coverage.
No rack=no noise, less weight and more rugged look. About the rear light, why not upgrade to a fancier one with turn signals and such, that way you'll be safer on the road and cops won't look at you sideways when you're hauling ass down the road.😂
If those rubber washers are all it takes, why the hell doesn't Wired take notes? Rattling noises are freaking annoying! All companies should test their bikes in all conditions.
@@leetjohnson on my previous ebike, a Biktrix Juggernaut, I removed the fenders because I thought they were ugly. It was those long fenders with the long metal wire attachments, which are so horrible looking! But on the Wired Freedom, the 2024 models don't have the attachments, and the fenders are shorter and sportier. I think the bike looks better with them.
I really want to take the rack and rear fender off but i don't want to omit the rear light. So I'm hoping you decide to do the same and maybe you can come up with an alternative mounting solution for the light. I like to get a lil crazy and all that extra weight is not good for hitting jumps or extreme down hills which is my favorite lol, anyways thanks for the video.
Do you want to stop the rattle of your Fender put rubber washers in between so the rubber will absorb the vibration and you don't hear The Ting Ting Ting all the time and like you said you need a lock washer and don't forget Loctite when it comes to your brake pads and your rotors wash the rotors off with pure alcohol take your brake pads out and wipe them all down with alcohol also you getting this week because of the oils on your brake pads like I said watch the back of your brakes watch the brake pads and wash everything inside there everything everyone's been talking about are minor

I look at that bike as being worth $1,200 with free shipping.... The market is saturated with e-bikes.. there's a lot of hype... 60 volts don't mean anything.... High-speed just means you can't ride it on the trails......😮
@timr31908 dang! That's a bummer. Where do you live? Most of the mountain bikers in my area go 20 to 30mph even non electric. It says 20mph on the trails, but almost nobody goes that slow. I'm in Nor Cal.

You keep the bike rack on because you need to buy a milk crate that is 19x13x11 that you will secure by using zip ties purchased at Home Depot right? Use 10 zip ties. This way you'll be able to grocery shop and not use the car to waste gas. O.K. ?
Not a bad idea, but I have to also pick up my kid at school and I usually have a number of bags from grocery shopping. This bike is purely for fun.
Guess what , I cut about a 4" section off a 20" bike tube and ran the bolt through it for both mounting spots on the rear fender between the fender and the frame . No noise whatsoever , plus you don't even see it .
@@Busdathead that's a great idea!!
Right on, thanks for sharing your experience!
@@Doc.Holiday
You might be able to put a plastic mudflap on the end of the front fender.
@@johnsanders561 … good idea! If it becomes a big problem I can rig up a removable clip on flap. I’m formulating the beginnings of a conceptual design in my head. 👍
I hope Wired is watching. All these annoying problems can be solved with 20 cents worth of parts. It seems someone didn't think this through.
I agree, probably just some growing pains with a brand new bike. They have already made significant changes to the suspension since the 2023 came out, so I'm sure they can make these small changes easily. Thanks for watching!
Totally agree
I have zero rattle with either fender with stock installation. Don’t know why his do, possibly something is bent slightly or loose? Also I like the look of the fenders and get small rocks and debris kicked up into them from time to time so I wouldn’t want to remove them. To each their own.
@@usernamesrlamo mine didn't rattle at first either. How many miles do you have on yours?
Great video, thank you!
You are welcome! 😊
Took my fenders off my 2023 , looks way better without them .
I agree 100%!!
Make sure you wear eye protection!
Yeah, I don't do much riding in the rain or mud. I live in California, we don't get as much rain as the UK.
I'll keep fenders.
You should always spray your router before you ride for the first time.
Router?
Question. Could you have removed the rack instead of the wheel to take off the fender? Thanks
Great question and idea! Yes, I believe you can! The light is connected, so you may have to replace a zip tie.
I'd also prefer wearing a Camel Pak to carry extra gear and hydration rather than the rack... Rack could come in handy for carrying heavier loads though, like beer.. lol.. ; )
I agree. The rack could always come in handy in a pinch!
Question. The shipping is $250.00 Now does it make sense to pay the $75 Navidium Shipping Protection?
Good question. I didn't use the insurance and didn't have any issues. Does the insurance include the return shipping cost if there is an issue? I'm not familiar with the coverage.
No rack=no noise, less weight and more rugged look. About the rear light, why not upgrade to a fancier one with turn signals and such, that way you'll be safer on the road and cops won't look at you sideways when you're hauling ass down the road.😂
Good idea! I just might do that.
Anyone get an increasing frequency wobble when they ride with no hands? If so, what is the fix?
I don't, but I have had that on other bikes. Check the front quick release latch. Make sure it's tight!
Couple of nit picks, it's NOT an eMTB is an older man cruiser or an electric moped, not a mtb
Totally agree, but easy enough fixes for the bike to be perfect. Definitely great value for the price.
If those rubber washers are all it takes, why the hell doesn't Wired take notes? Rattling noises are freaking annoying! All companies should test their bikes in all conditions.
I hope they do!
13/ 16
Correct, sorry about that!
The socket is not a 3/16. It's a 13/16.
Correct, thank you!
Would you consider this a bike a guy can use on sandy hills and steep hills?
Absolutely, I just wouldn't use it for any really big jumps or landings and you should be just fine.
Have you thought about getting a skid plate to go underneath the crank to cover those wires?
I haven't considered it, but not a bad idea.
I agree! If I decide to remove the rear rack and relocate the light, I will definitely make a video of thr process! Thanks for watching!!
I really want this bike but don't have the money rn sadly
Maybe you can help someone out for some extra money?
@@leetjohnson I am, so far I'm at 1k 👍
@@angelblue9946 Awesome, keep it up!!
If you want history for the gold rush in that area go up to Coloma. That is where gold was discovered and started the California gold rush.
You are correct! I have been up there, just need to find some cool spots to ride!
@@leetjohnson Try Auburn State Park along Highway 49, there are a few trails along the middle and north forks.
@@bcmandel Awesome, thank you for the suggestion!!
What beach were you on at the end of the video ?
Folsom Lake, California
South of Main Beach, North of Beal's Point.
I don't understand why freedom doesn't install a plastic fenders? 🤦
Me either.
They used to be plastic, these were 'upgraded' apparently lol
Do you want to stop the rattle of your Fender put rubber washers in between so the rubber will absorb the vibration and you don't hear The Ting Ting Ting all the time and like you said you need a lock washer and don't forget Loctite when it comes to your brake pads and your rotors wash the rotors off with pure alcohol take your brake pads out and wipe them all down with alcohol also you getting this week because of the oils on your brake pads like I said watch the back of your brakes watch the brake pads and wash everything inside there everything everyone's been talking about are minor
💯!
That's absolutely not a 3/16" nut, if it fits sparkplugs.
Maybe 13/16" ?
Correct, 13/16ths. Sorry, I misspoke.
@@leetjohnson , I see where somebody else beat me to notifying you.
Hopefully you won't get bombarded by similar posts.....at least we're paying attention. 😁
@@davidgraham2673 no worries , I appreciate it!
Is this a Matt black?
It sure is!
Nice
Hi can you tell us what size nut you used for the front light?
Thanks
I used a 3/8 inch nut (same size as stock).
Thank you going to buy one now my bike is shipping in a couple of days
@@michaelpuccio6201 Awesome!!
My freedom arrived without the light/front fender hardware at all, I attached the light alone using a 1/4-20 stainless bolt into a locknut
It's not a dirt bike! Most people probably just use them on blacktop.
I'm sure they do, but it has full suspension and knobby tires for a reason.
It also still makes the motor vibrational noises even on smooth surfaces.
Agreed it’s not a technical single track jumper, hopping, trialing, climbing and downhill MTB. That it certainly is not. However, it has its purpose and it’s a lot of fun. That purpose most certainly is not limited to urban blacktop.
Rubber gromits on the fender.
Great idea!
Funny I just took my fenders off and kept my rack yesterday . It looks much better
Awesome!! I agree, it's sooo much better looking!
Wait till it rains, you'll put em back on. Mud gets everywhere..
@@dezfitz62 I don't ride in the rain. It dries out pretty quickly up here.
@@leetjohnson .Fair point. But I live in UK North, it does rain a lot Here, and cooler so it stays wet.
Are these generic batteries you can get from china?
For the bike? I don't think so, at least not that I know of, other than from the Wiredebikes.com website. None on Amazon, but maybe Alibaba?
Also I had both washers for my bolts with my fenders. Made in china parts are inconsitent. So frustrating. Too bad these bikes weren’t made in japan 😂😂😂 btw I’m Asian so I can say this. Lol
Lol, Japan makes the BEST stuff!
Lol..he didn't like the fender because it was to short...but then he removes the fenders
If it's too short, it serves no purpose.
@@leetjohnson it serves more purpose then no fenders at all..
@jabster58 if I'm getting wet and muddy,I don't need em.
Remove it. The bike will look even better.
I agree!!
I look at that bike as being worth $1,200 with free shipping.... The market is saturated with e-bikes.. there's a lot of hype... 60 volts don't mean anything.... High-speed just means you can't ride it on the trails......😮
I don't know about $1,200....no other 60v, hydraulic brakes, full suspension out there anywhere close to that price.
40mph for commuting is important....at least to me it is.
@@leetjohnson it's cool man I just had to rant they're kicking me off the trail with a bike that will go 20 mph
@timr31908 dang! That's a bummer. Where do you live? Most of the mountain bikers in my area go 20 to 30mph even non electric. It says 20mph on the trails, but almost nobody goes that slow. I'm in Nor Cal.
