For sailing, I think it’s key that there are permanent islands that unlock at various levels. Maybe the level 10 island has an amazing fishing activity. Maybe the level 20 island unlocks a slayer dungeon. Maybe level 70 has a new boss island and so on. If, in contrast, all the content is temporary (you explore a procedurally-generated island once and then never have access to it again), then this would end up feeling like a minigame more than a skill.
Shamanism has so much potential, I saw someone mention that they should call it druidism because of their relation to nature, to add to that idea perhaps you could tie the skill more directly to guthix, the spirit realm could be manifestations of Guthix's dreams while he slumbers which explains why you can access them through ingredients in nature, due to his ties with Geilenor. You can first hear of this skill from the snake in tears of guthix which explains why no one has participated in this skill prior, the snake tells the story of Guthix falling asleep and some details in the story allow us to enter a dream accidentally, the player can then go to the druids who figure out it has something to do with nature, quests could expand to relate to the karamjan natives and their totems are actually a form of shamanism that they had accidentally discovered, as the player levels he can better understand and relate to Guthix which explains why they can access higher level realms. Decisions and actions made in the realm could affect the natural world, you can establish a Dwarven ghost in power in one realm which could lead to an increased chance for an additional ore when mining. Or in the same realm choose to establish a gnome ghost to be able to have access to taming animals later, which could make a way of introducing taming at a later date, another cool idea could be making totem poles which have aoe buffs that takes multiple inventory spaces like the multi cannon, the benefits could range from passive prayer restore similar to the scarab in toa but slower to skilling buffs like decreased chance for a fishing spot to move, it can even create a portal to a specific hub location in the spirit realm that all players share and has a bank allowing access to a bank from certain locations, the downside could be a resource that the totem needs to stay functional, multiple people could contribute, to keep one totem running
What a great idea Spiffy - I hope shamanism wins too and has a lot to offer with adding to the existing art style instead of changing it by offering changes like glowing buffs to items or the character as a whole depending on the buff and have effects like smoke/heat/fire/wet to help or interact with different environments or tasks. They could do something like leaving a trail of wet foot prints behind your last 6-8 steps you took on the map or a burnt trail/frozen trail/smoky trail/mystic trail or add an effect like sparks or bubbles when interacting with a tree for wcing or rocks as a buff when mining to add to the art style with out tainting it because we all know how the OSRS feels about ruining the nostalgia and classic feeling of the existing game lol
I don’t play rs very often these days, but I hope the community feels blessed to have the devs pumping out a ton of cool ideas. Passion is clear. I could see all 3 skills being cool, and worth coming back to the game for.
@@killler240 I am probably under informed when saying this, but from what I've seen as an outsider, OSRS will go ballistic if something happens that isnt up to their standards of quality and fairness. On the other hand, RS3 has lootboxes and people are still playing. I think the quality delivered relates to the quality demanded. Obviously, this makes stuff come to OSRS very slowly, but I don't think its all that bad for this style of game.
I'm curious why Guthix wasn't mentioned at all in the Shamanism pitch. I get that having a Guthix-themed skill would make red and blue teams jealous. But If you're going to have a skill centered around nature, you got to at least mention him. Maybe you could visit the Druids, the Seers, and maybe even the lizardmen shamans to get a sort of amalgamation of mysticism. It would be nice to have an excuse to visit Kaqemeex and check in on that alter of theirs anyway.
100% What is was going to say. I also believe the Druids of Taverley would be all over that as well. Getting the blood of a hill giant. A quil from a Grenwall. May Guthix be with you friends. 💚
@@fake28rss God of balance and nature. Creator god and most powerful (maybe rivaled by prime Zaros iirc). "When Guthix saw what the God Wars had done to his world, he wept. And so great was his sorrow, that the rocks where he sat wept with him, and were infused with his power." Giving us Tears of Guthix. Pretty cool lore. Shamanism would bring some good lore/quests
I think Shamanism is cool, but it feels a bit out of left field. I feel like Druidism would have been a more appropriate direction, considering the large presence of druids in Gielinor and the lingering influence of Guthix.
Taming feels like a good way to get me back into areas that I don't often go. There are broad stretches of the world that I haven't visited since a quest was completed. So taming would essentially make the world feel bigger just by making currently uneventful or uninteresting areas have a reason to visit again.
All three skill pitches sounds like great features/additions to the game! I personally feel like Shamanism makes the most sense as a new skill you level up. And Sailing, even if not added as a skill sounds like a very neat idea for the game in general.
I think rs3 has sailing integrated really well. The port and The Arc together are basically what sailing could've been like, but it never became a whole separate skill, which it doesn't need to.
Sailing allows for the team to turn the sea of the map into landmarks and locations, thereby expanding the world and map without having to add a whole continent
0:32 NO you better not add Summoning-lite! 5:00 NO SAILING!! 9:30 No Shamanism! Just add Tailoring! Take cloth, make Magic armor. Keep it simple like Crafting and Smithing.
Shamanism sounds very risky. Modifying current armor and equipment in general can be a game changer and not necessarily for the better. I know you said Taming would not be like summoning, but the companions would still ”aid” you in your adventures. This gave me too much Yak vibes. Sailing, on the other hand, could have a lot of low-risk potential with access to new areas with bosses, raids and other activities. This is, in my experience and opinion, the best option.
Plagued with bots. Servers are crap. Players lose items the equivalent to hundreds of irl cash and just say nothing. Then they present these 3 crap "skills" that aren't skills but rather extensions to existing skills apart from summoning reworked
I gotta go with sailing here. Being able to have Slayer islands/sea caves could be really fun. Sea raids would be super fun. Most of all for me being able to build and customize a ship would be great. If there were trophies to add to the ship to show off certain achievements (like for killing a sea raid boss) that would be a fun way to show off what content you've completed. Not sure how pirating aspect would work best personally not a fan of PVP so I hope it wouldnt be something like the wilderness where if you get caught by a player that just has a better ship/gear then you're just dead.
@@ieatylosnoandsnobord For real. None of these sound like improvements to the game. Taming especially sounded dreadful. If I wanted to play fetch with my pet, I would get a dog irl.
Truly agree. Right now we're getting new prayers which already changes the game alot. I'd say shamanism/druidism should be left to future, if players are ready for a game changing skill. Till then sailing feels like perfect skill that adds new dimension to the game, instead of changing it.
@@bigkushgod The game was way way different back then. Mlst of the content we have now would have been voted no back then. Nobody is forcing it on us, there are 3 pitches that are going on right now, and any of those skills will be ton better, than if they would have been released back then. And 68% of players voted yes, which by standards of today is very very close to win.
@@RisingInTheFlesh Yeah, I think it would be cool. I’m not saying it should be POH 2.0 where we just fill our ship with teleports and such, but allowing players to customise their own ships rather than owning a generic one would be awesome!
I agree with the POH comparison. I made a sailing pitch that included shipmates. Among them were barbarian rowers and seers that can predict weather while you're out. It would also be nice if we could park our boat at various places so that the utilities could be accessed on land.
i think that too, plus Prayer. when i saw the buffing/blessing items or armor, i instantly thought "what if my character could tap into the beyond/dimension for extra power" and i instantly thought Prayer kinda does this too if it's planned for Shamanism
I’m worried Taming might take away from pets…right now all following companions are pets which are like trophies from our adventures. I am a fan of Shamanism (Rather it be named Druidism). I like the idea of more scavenger hunts for a skill and to do something that makes me more powerful. I think it could even be tied with prayer in some way, how we could imbue powers from the gods in some way into our gear.
what if you could tame your current pets from your pvming adventures and finally have them fight along side you so they actually have a use have you ever thought of that?
facts bro. this is not animal crossing. i don't want to catch a fox and feed it redberries and have it follow me around and scratch bosses i'm fighting. why don't they just make the pets that already exist more interactive and give them some abilities and benefits... make bandos pet do damage to an NPC you're fighting kind of like a thrall... not hard. i don't think it would be cool to have every low-level moron running around with a pet they have tamed. pets are supposed to show that you've attempted to grind some content in the game - a skill or a boss (unless you got spooned on 20kc). taming is a cop-out for working hard for a pet. taming is for players that are impatient with pet grind and just want something cute to follow them around. again, this is not fucking animal crossing.
Both the cat and Skotos i would say are extremely obtainable pets, and everyone is aware of that. I feel like anyone familiar with the skill would understand that those are skill aquired compared to an actual achievement
considering the history of sailing as a meme in the community i think it's the top contender right now. would really complete a whole story arc for us players. LOL
We've already seen how instancing a skill will depopulate the main world in Dungeoneering and we've already seen how grindy it is to get/maintain pets just because they have abilities that makes other activities trivial in Summoning, so my vote is with Shamanism. It seems a bit on the grindy side as well but grind is okay when it's consistent and not relying on pure drop rate, plus the hybrid gathering/producing aspect of it appeals to me more.
@@andrewbrock3675 There's different kinds of grinds tho, like I mentioned I'd much rather a skill be consistent in its grind rather than rely on pure drop chance of items. Drop chance will almost always be a part of the grind as well, I understand, but it doesn't have to be _solely_ reliant on that like charms were with summoning.
I like both of those concepts too they have so much to offer to add to the existing game and art style with out devaluing the time and gp we put into other skills/drops … that’s something I’m worried sailing would do besides being the new worst skill to train. How long can a new version of fishing or walking be, we can already teleport lol
@@AR-yr5ov they could make it so we create certain types of lures with shamanism that aid you in the taming process. Using different totems on your tamed follower will grant certain buffs for activities
Shamanism sounds (utility wise) like invention and (training wise) like archaeology. Don't take this comment the wrong way, I absolutely love those skills and seeing something vaguely similar really excites me! Sailing and taming both really interest me as well, all these pitches have a lot of potential. Excited to see what comes next!
Wow outstanding, idk if I can pick if only one. They all sound so fun. I could see all 3 in game. Maybe it should be a vote on witch one we want to see first lol
Sailing has infinite potential, if it passes, it adds an extra layer of complexity to the game entirely, you can now explore the ocean, the endless amounts of ideas that can be implemented with the help of the community would be amazing, it would hands down be the most fun skill in the game
I agree, I think the key is to care about the addition, more of a labor of love opposed to a cash grab or desperate attempt at more players being interested in the game
Bro it's gotta be sailing, imagine all the new content and things you could do at sea. So much more to explore, I love the idea of gaining exp by discovering location's. Super great ideas, shame to see any lose.
Shamanism seems to be the one that connects with other content the most and feels like it's something that belongs rather than an addition. Plus I feel like sailing would just be a huge buggy mess and take massively more amount of time to fine-tune. Taming like 7asty says would just make every content in the game outdated right away since no boss as of right now was intended for u to bring a companion. Thralls already give us an insane dps increase what would it look like having a dragon and thrall. Maybe if they took thralls away and gave us pets? So that dps increase wouldn't feel so free to attain?
tbh I think they should avoid making them too much like Summoning combat. Maybe have the option to receive a skill boost from different animals at a 30 minutes interval. Like different animals give boosts to different skills, like a blessing, and affected by Preserve. More combat oriented animals could give boosts to combat stats I guess. Shouldn't affect endgame too much I wouldn't think.
@@115UndeadAnarchy115 So would u say what u just said is something we should spend time skilling? Seems like it could be a humble upgrade to hunter (or a skill just to ignore) while Shaman sounds like something u would want to train or add to your game plan to reach certain goals. But then again it's something that has to be fleshed out still!
I agree with this, but at the same time it feels like crafting and herbalore should have an update as well to support shamanism instead of just shoving the crafting and herbalism parts into shamanism as well.
if sailing comes into osrs should create sea implings we can hunt also, or if shamanism comes make spirit imps lol would be cool... excited tosee what ppl vote for
@@anthonyperi ah i see makes sense. Sea impling could have a chance to drop a trident for ironman who don't want train slayer fir kraken, that would be cool. Or the merfolk trident too
Shamanism sounds cool. I just really want something that makes you stack up different tiers of clues to a certain amount depending on your level. Something like the Inscription skill that was showcased earlier.
They all sound bad but I will say I like the idea of sailing only in the sense of opening possibilities and new lands and what not. The skill itself eh we could do better. I think if people want a new skill they could read a book
I think shamanism but with a taminging component included as a same skill, would flesh out a total skill and really lean into the forest person fantasy and allow content to more easily tie into the world
Im concerned that shamanism could turn into passive scape where it just provides flat buffs to currently already BIS gear or methods. I think it has potential but this skill (and taming to a smaller degree) have a lot of potential to great serious long term game health issues. Because of this I vote for sailing.
Exactly. I think Sailing is the only one that wont result in player loss, partly due to how long its been talked about. Should it be a skill? No. Make fletching a skill first.
For some inspiration on how naval battles and charting could work in Runescape, check out another classic Java-based game called Puzzle Pirates. I think a turn-based strategic ship battle on a grid would fit very well within Runescape while using hitsplats & RnG for cannonfire and other weapons, etc. Also the bigger the boat, the more crew members can fit onto it which would encourage co-op play. Some players would bilge water, repair the hull, fire the canons, adjust the sails, while the captain navigates the boat (Think fishing trawler but more involvement/more engaging). There could be minigames for each crew member role and the better you perform, the faster you can reload the cannon, increase the ships speed or movement capability (with sails), etc.. Canonball ammo would be purchasable/craftable. Higher tiers of ammo & weapons become unlocked with leveling. You could hook onto an enemy boat after defeating them at sea and engage into classic Runescape PvP once aboard. If in a "wilderness" type area, the winner of the battle could plunder another team's ship.
I really like the idea of the "spirit realm" in the Shamanism skill. Just imagining super hard/mechanically challenging versions of all currently existing bosses in the spirit realm. Lots of cool ideas like that, that can be implemented with this idea, beyonds just the gathering/production aspect of shamanism.
Whatever the community votes on, PLEASE spend time optimizing the new skill for mobile use. Some of us primarily play mobile, lots of skills are essentially untrainable on mobile.
@@Puma6922 the game is 23 years old, devs couldn’t dream of it lasting long enough to see mobile integration. To that point, it has been ported. Lots of the player base are now grown up and have careers, families and children, that don’t allow for hours of grinding at a pc. Why the opposition to mobile consideration?
@@marcusnorman2721 because pc is and always should be the priority and the skill shouldn't be changed in any way to accommodate mobile. OSRS is all about not being casual
Can we have an option to vote for all of them? All 3 of these new skills would breathe so much life into this game. Not to mention it’ll attract new players too!
I got excited when you pitched sailing. New continents only accessible by boat, underwater areas to explore with scuba gear that already exists. There's so much potential to add new content without any negative effect on current.
I mean it's the only skill that DO ADD NEGATIVE effect. New islannds, new arias, new monsters, new bosses, new gathering locations? You know what all that adds? Alot more new ways to farm new or existing items. Thats just adds to gp inflitaion and item inflation which is all bad, unlike other skills that would take away items from the game.
If sailing happens, It would be cool to have slayer task bosses you can fight from the ship. Like Ds2 etc Higher sailing level you can make bigger ships which is a requirement for said slayer bosses
Frankly I wouldn't mind seeing all 3 of these added eventually, but for this first poll I'm really torn between Shamanism and Taming. Taming sounds a little more useful, but Shamanism sounds way cooler, and interfacing with the spirit realm has kinda sold me a bit. I may end up having to flip a coin to decide.
The way we're setting up the polls will allow you to let us know which skill pitches you like, with the option to then tell us your favourite pitch in a follow-up question. So it's absolutely okay to like the idea of both Shamanism AND Sailing. You can vote YES to both in our first poll question, and then vote Shamanism as your favourite in Q2 :)
HEAR ME OUT: I love the ideas, but I think we should maybe get 2-3 more pitches before we bring it to a vote. Like stated, while more skills/ideas could be added in the future, its about right now and I think people want to see a couple more options. While 3 is great, there is sort of a limit and the extra 2-3 pitches could be a great way to see other ideas or potential ones. Taming sounds great, but could it be a hunter expansion? Shamanism is awesome. I personally love sailing, but wonder what else is out there......anyone else agree?
I disagree. Because if given to many options, the vote will be split to much. Thus making it difficult to determine which skills attract the most interest. I would suggest this though. After deciding which skill to go with, have a second vote to either pick one of the other 2 skills, or have a third option that would vote for "new ideas". This would allow the team to see if there was strong interest in the 2 skills that got beat by the first skill
Based on the video. I think sailing 90% fits, shamanism 80% fits, and taming 70% fits. Mind you all of them could be added to the game as 3 new skills and I wouldn't mind it.
it would be a cool idea to integrate taming with existing pets, where you could level them up, and give the players a reason to grind for pets, instead of them only being a cosmetic/flex.
All 3 were great ideas! Whichever 1 gets voted for im ok with, could we maybe poll the other 2 in like a year or 2 to get either of them into the game as well? And then the last of the 3 we can get in a year or 2 after that 2nd one. I just think all 3 would fit the game well!
Taming feels like Summoning with extra steps, for not that much reward without seeing more. Sailing I think would just turn into a minigame. Shamanism is the best of the 3, but I want more information on the enhancements you can do with it. The effort and work gone into these ideas is exciting though.
Having actually listened to tamings pitch, I'm convinced it's a really cute idea- but I sort of wish it was more like a global minigame/subsystem to Hunter
You have no idea how happy I was to hear sailing. I honestly want sailing more than I want a new skill. The oceans of runescape are just begging to be explored I'm also pleased to hear about dwarven steamships. I hope there is some sort of wind mechanic that the steamship bypasses. A few months ago I spent a week on a presentation suggesting mechanics. It will feel so good if I see some of the ideas come to fruition.
@@ameerkherbawi8466 Well for one thing, being able to walk around your ship and control it at the same time wasn't even on my radar as a possibility. I was a little uneasy at first, not sure if they could pull it off well, but I think it is the best way to go. I mean otherwise, if you got boarded and had to fight the enemies off, would your ship now be a sitting duck now that you're no longer controlling it? Or would it be invincible/invisible? So I think the way they're doing it does make the most sense. But I still need to see a lot more to have any strong opinions. For example, how exactly do you operate a big ship with crewmates? Will you be able to see very far ahead with the camera zoomed into the ship? How will wind mechanics be handled? In my post, wind had a pretty role (sails are meant to catch wind afterall). For example, I thought you might want to change your route or even destination based on changing wind direction to make training dynamic and interesting. I thought you could zigzag for optimal head-wind sailing, use run energy to row and ignore wind altogether, or hire a seer to predict wind changes before they happen. All we've really seen so far is that you click the sail to trim it, so a lot is to be announced. I just hope they do something to make basic navigation a little interesting. A more minor thing is weapons. In my post I talked about having ballistas to give use to low level javelins, and a firethrower to make use of salamanders. So far we have three kinds of cannons, one of which is dragonfire. I hope to see weapons I mentioned, maybe the salamander fire as a more close range option.
OSRS Devs, I really like Shamanism thematically, and love the idea of gathering untradeables and exploring new mystical territory. That being said, I have some concerns about adding augmentation to the game, especially as the skill's primary reward system as pitched. While I can't see the poll results about augmentation, this aspect of the skill feels polarizing. Can you reassure us that the skill could be useful but not game-breaking? Are you open to the community exploring different reward systems entirely from augmentation or buffing? When I think of Shamanism, augmentation and buffing don't immediately come to mind.
Bro new items has been breaking the game slowly overtime anyway. If something is too OP they will make changes to the skill. This is a live service game after all.
I think being in the boat would be a lot cooler and "OSRS Feeling." That way during your travels you will have to multitask between steering the ship, fixing damages, maybe firing canons occasionally. And only after successfully doing that will you arrive at your destination where you can engage with whatever that activity may be.
Same. My pick right now would be Shamanism, but I'd love to see all three added in the long term. These all have a ton of potential and seem like they were really well thought-out to incorporate and utilize other skills in ways that make sense instead of just being another side activity that feels tacked-on. Kudos to the Old School team!
Idk I might be the only one but I don’t feel the need for new skill on the 07 server? I mean, I play it for the nostalgia and simplicity of playing RuneScape as if it were still 2007. I stopped playing RS3 after summoning was released, and although none of these skills are that, I don’t understand why some of these skills can’t just be injected into the new server and see how the players react to that. If it’s positive then maybe have a poll to introduce it to OSRS. I don’t think all this is necessary to play on a server that we all voted to have back because we wanted old skills and gameplay. I may be speaking for myself, but it does frustrate me a little that Jagex wants to continue to update and introduce a variety of new things for OSRS when in reality, old and simple is what we were looking for.
Sailing: crazy potentional and options for new content, but i can only figure that training it efficiently would be boring. Taming: seems really interesting as its come from summoning but less 2 dimensional but too little information so far. Shamanizm: again crazy potentional but i believe this could break the game with too much power creep. my vote for now would be Sailing as i think its the safest option with the information at hand. either way i think the team will nail whatever option comes through! awsome work Jagex.
I think sailing could be a great addition as a skill. It pairs so well with so many other skills, wood cutting, crafting, construction, fishing, and then getting you to new locations for other skills. Taming could easily be a hunter expansion rather than a whole new skill. It feels really niche to me too. Shamanism is a really cool concept to me, but seems better suited as a new spellbook than a whole new skill. Would be cool to have stackable components like mushrooms and herbs and such to cast shamanistic spells rather than runes.
Make Shamanism be somewhat related to the Druids of Taverly/Seers. I believe it would be a great addition to the game. May Guthix be with you friends. May the legends of the game not able to see the advancement of the game, receive my blessing. May Balance be with you all.
I love how all 3 suggestions make use of existing skills and seem to integrate well into the existing world. I'll take any of these three skills imo, they all sound reallly awesome :D
I'll vote for Taming if I can Tame an Impala at level 99 All joking aside.... If taming can capture the feeling of a Nintendo Pokemon game then I am all up for it. I got really tickled by the 'taming them all' line! Sailing reminds me of an old Pirates of the Caribbean game I used to play from bethesda in which you played in first person mode. but whenever you were sailing the seas, you would enter a cartoony map view. In which you needed to avoid pirates and storms, but were also able to interact with friendly ships. Once you entered an encounter with these, the game would bring you into sailing mode in which you could shoot the other ships with your cannons, and once you started boarding these ships you were back in 1st person mode. This was one of my favorite games as a child and I remember collecting the biggest warships as i could very fondly. If the game manages to capture this vibe i am all up for sailing as well. The only thing I worry about is how the sailing skill would coexist next to already existing sailing methods like bone voyage, fishing trawler and the regular charter ships. Otherwise, the skill feels like it could be a very organic part of the game and the lore, driven by the incentive to explore the world of rs. Shamanism however, feels like a skill that we've already seen. It reminds me a lot of summoning, (with its untradable items), enchanting items with magic, and herblore. I feel like the solutions that shamanism provides could also be fulfilled through already existing skills. The skill to me feels like divination in RS3, a skill released for the sake of being a new skill and it does not solve a problem that is already in the game, rather it creates a problem to be solved through this skill.
If shamanism were themed like a combo of Nature Spirit and Dream Mentor I could get around it. The way it was pitched seems wishy washy and vague about how it connects to or enhances Gielenor
Us casuals make up like 80% of the vote, despite like the other 20% of the community making the most sound. And tbh, I think either Sailing or Taming will have it in the bag. Honestly wouldn’t mind if they added both.
Sailing has insane possibilities for future content releases. Not only is it a new skill but its like a whole open sea game expansion. They could add clue scroll things, deep sea bosses, treasure hunting, PvP, skilling locations, even a new raid Also hyped to see some new water graphics, the current ones look so bad lol
I really like taming, I feel like sailing will make the game more soloscape, as it will likely be instanced. I will be voting taming! Although it does kind of devalue pets as a chasable drop. Maybe make some tamable creatures transmogabble by a pet drop?
I think Taming would work amazingly with the pets themselves as it could give you the option to actually train up that said pet rather than having a pet purely for flexing
I highly doubt sailing will be solo, as they originally planned to have entire crews. It'd be nice if you could hire npcs as crew for ironmans but have them be less effective than teaming up with players. The original blog years ago included pvp in the wilderness waters, having multiple player crew ships to blast more cannons at enemy boats to loot.
I feel like sailing can work really great as a long asked-for "slayer for skilling". The main problem with the proposal of a skilling slayer is that it would be inefficient training - most skills, such as mining or woodcutting, have straightforward better xp options as you get bigger levels, and getting a task for an ore or tree in the middle of nowhere for poor xp is bad design. Sailing could work great in this regard - offer scaleable skilling activites, that give passive sailing xp, just like killing a monster on a task gives slayer xp. This would give even more incentive to train sailing, as larger levels would maybe unlock better xp methods? Honestly, out of the three skills mentioned Shamanism seems the most interesting, but if Sailing passes I'd like to see something like what I've mentioned be integrated.
Sailing just seems to have everything in it! Exploration at its finest with content to fill in the gaps. Really hoping sailing passes but if not, then taming.
Shamanism sounds interesting, however I’d worry a little bit about gear balancing. At the same time tho it brings an opportunity to revive dead content/gear so I’m not too sure about it. Sailing has real potential beyond its meme status but seems like it’s better suited as a mini game imo. Taming resonates the most with me overall. Can understand the hesitation because of summoning, but obviously Jagex is well aware of this.
@@colekoger I think sailing would be sweet. Let's say there's a place that people need to go to often, but it's a dangerous path, just like how we need to go to some places through the wildness, but this place is an island that requires us to travel through seas of pirates (PvPers). It's exciting. There could be resources in the ocean wilderness that are valuable, and of course are attractive to pirates. Perhaps protector-players get a cut from resource-gathererers if they survive the trip back home
@@omnacky the idea of an ocean wilderness area sounds interesting. Admittedly Sailing could provide plenty of opportunity for ideas such as this. Idk tho it’s gonna be really tough to settle on a new skill that isn’t so polarizing 🤷🏻♂️
If taming were to pass, i would love to see an interaction with our pets. It would give them a purpose even if it was just a transmog option system. For sailing, maybe it would be cool to make this an OS version of a culmination skill (e.g., Invention), where other stats aren’t necessarily required to train sailing, but higher construction, crafting, thieving, and/or fishing for example benefit the skill and sailing activities also train those other skills by a small amount. Finally, I think I like the shamanism idea of enhancing equipment, but it’s not something I would want to upkeep all the time. Maybe enchanting an item with shamanism with a small stat boost or minor additional effect is permanent, but you can replace the effect with a different one whenever you want by performing another ritual. Also, i think it would be fair to make the item permanently untradable in order to create a sink. Or, you can pay a large amount of gold to an NPC to revert the item back to it’s original state to make it tradeable again.
If You combine Something like Sea of thieves for Sailing with ''Mystery'' element Where let's say you can find various mystery islands with new mobs, resources, dungeons etc By exploring that would be crazy! But the thing is, we need like random generated islands or something like that, not to get bored after week or so and always find something new.
I think sailing can be HUGE, and we should do a lot about it, I feel a lot of people are going to talk about the island. But I wish sailing could have something like raids, go on a big boat in a group or solo and have to fight with sea monsters, manage the boat and fix it. This could be unlocked like on level 70 as Hallowed Sepulchre is with Agility and as you get levels you go to more dangerous places in the sea and fight others monsters.
It should be both imo

Or in the same realm choose to establish a gnome ghost to be able to have access to taming animals later, which could make a way of introducing taming at a later date, another cool idea could be making totem poles which have aoe buffs that takes multiple inventory spaces like the multi cannon, the benefits could range from passive prayer restore similar to the scarab in toa but slower to skilling buffs like decreased chance for a fishing spot to move, it can even create a portal to a specific hub location in the spirit realm that all players share and has a bank allowing access to a bank from certain locations, the downside could be a resource that the totem needs to stay functional, multiple people could contribute, to keep one totem running
this is so good!
Jagex get his man a job
You are magnificent
What a great idea Spiffy - I hope shamanism wins too and has a lot to offer with adding to the existing art style instead of changing it by offering changes like glowing buffs to items or the character as a whole depending on the buff and have effects like smoke/heat/fire/wet to help or interact with different environments or tasks. They could do something like leaving a trail of wet foot prints behind your last 6-8 steps you took on the map or a burnt trail/frozen trail/smoky trail/mystic trail or add an effect like sparks or bubbles when interacting with a tree for wcing or rocks as a buff when mining to add to the art style with out tainting it because we all know how the OSRS feels about ruining the nostalgia and classic feeling of the existing game lol

you should. its better than ever.

These are dog shit ideas
The passion in the OSRS team is so clear, while us in RS3 gets nothing. I am so jealous 😩
It would be nice to have an excuse to visit Kaqemeex and check in on that alter of theirs anyway.
guthix is the god of balance . shamanism is more about relationship with the dead
100% What is was going to say. I also believe the Druids of Taverley would be all over that as well. Getting the blood of a hill giant. A quil from a Grenwall. May Guthix be with you friends. 💚

@LUS HEDS ??? a true shaman knows why they are getting high all the time
Lol why? Guthix is the God of balance, not the God of nature
I think Shamanism is cool, but it feels a bit out of left field. I feel like Druidism would have been a more appropriate direction, considering the large presence of druids in Gielinor and the lingering influence of Guthix.
Tomato tomahto right? Flavor is the exact same. Shamans are essentially druids no? I see your point though. Druidism feels like a better name.
Completely agree
agreed.
Shamanism is old schools take on invention with a twist
Shamanism feels like a warding reskin so Jagex can reuse all the effort they put into building that before polling it.
Shamanism is satanic!!! Are you insane or what?

Sailing is the only pitch in here that wouldn't drastically alter how other skills are trained.
Truly agree. Right now we're getting new prayers which already changes the game alot. I'd say shamanism/druidism should be left to future, if players are ready for a game changing skill. Till then sailing feels like perfect skill that adds new dimension to the game, instead of changing it.
yet we already voted no on sailing so why are they forcing this on us
@@bigkushgod The game was way way different back then. Mlst of the content we have now would have been voted no back then. I agree with this, would be a new flex

Shamanism sounds like a magic/herblore combination update
i think that too, plus Prayer. when i saw the buffing/blessing items or armor, i instantly thought "what if my character could tap into the beyond/dimension for extra power" and i instantly thought Prayer kinda does this too if it's planned for Shamanism
it’s witchcraft!
druidism sounds alot better
Feels like invention from rs3
definitely has elements of invention from RS3, which is probably the best thing to happen to that game
I agree fully, only sidekicks you should ever have is pets you were lucky enough to obtain.
Both the cat and Skotos i would say are extremely obtainable pets, and everyone is aware of that. I feel like anyone familiar with the skill would understand that those are skill aquired compared to an actual achievement
What a suprise! Thanks to the osrs team for the vid, I cant wait to see how this shapes up.
considering the history of sailing as a meme in the community i think it's the top contender right now. would really complete a whole story arc for us players. LOL
Only one that doesn't ruin the way the game is played but it's literally a construction extension
Very good points, but what if sailing, or the spirit realm, wasn't instanced? o.0
+1
Nothing wont be grindy. This is osrs, that should not be a consideration, lol.

I like both of those concepts too they have so much to offer to add to the existing game and art style with out devaluing the time and gp we put into other skills/drops … that’s something I’m worried sailing would do besides being the new worst skill to train. why does sailing even need to be a skill. doesnt sound fun at all. Just make it like your poh you can tele to and dock it at diff areas.
@@brandonc2829 I think it could be great, my second choice would be Taming.
Taming doesn't have to include combat applications. It's not summoning. Both of these things were said in the video.
tbh I think they should avoid making them too much like Summoning combat.

Taming just sounds like pets with random super mid perks. And we already have enclosures for pets at POH.
Shamanism really does make the most sense and sounds like it would combine best with the rest of the game as it is.
I disagree... It sounds like when Everquest 2 added transmutation... It pretty much ruined the game.

Shaminism seems really cool actually
Shamanism sounds like the best of the three to me
Frankly I wouldn't mind seeing all 3 of these added eventually, but for this first poll I'm really torn between Shamanism and Taming.
Don’t matter jagex doesn’t care what we think.
@@kal7285 yall mfs are sad humans tbh

Taming has my vote if I can tame Zuk, and then ask him nicely for a cape.

Taming feels like Summoning with extra steps, for not that much reward without seeing more. Sailing I think would just turn into a minigame. Shamanism is the best of the 3, but I want more information on the enhancements you can do with it. The effort and work gone into these ideas is exciting though.
exactly my thoughts. If the rewards/perks of shamanism are just right this could be really good
Agreed, shamanism could actually be decent if done right.
I think sailing could be handled lots of different ways, but it depends what you consider to be a videogame
Having actually listened to tamings pitch, I'm convinced it's a really cute idea- but I sort of wish it was more like a global minigame/subsystem to Hunter
Kind of agree that a hunter/farming skill expansion fits better, along the lines of the forestry expansion

I'm also pleased to hear about dwarven steamships. I hope there is some sort of wind mechanic that the steamship bypasses.
A few months ago I spent a week on a presentation suggesting mechanics. It will feel so good if I see some of the ideas come to fruition.

@@ramencakes5196 Yeah I don't know what the deal with that is
I wanna know you thoughts now after they explained the mechanics of sailing in their latest vids:)
OSRS Devs,
I really like Shamanism thematically, and love the idea of gathering untradeables and exploring new mystical territory.
This is amazing - Great job to the team!! I am so excited to see which skill will be chosen, cause I kind of want them all!
I've never played RuneScape before but this sounds like a good game. I'd go for sailing tho if I had to choose
I'll vote for Taming if I can Tame an Impala at level 99
All joking aside....
The skill to me feels like divination in RS3, a skill released for the sake of being a new skill and it does not solve a problem that is already in the game, rather it creates a problem to be solved through this skill.
yea i can't wait to tame boss pets and use them in duels against other people's pets
If shamanism were themed like a combo of Nature Spirit and Dream Mentor I could get around it. The way it was pitched seems wishy washy and vague about how it connects to or enhances Gielenor
Shamanism sounds the most complete and coolest so far, you have my vote.
Me too. I'm so excited. The little kid that was excited to learn RS finally came back out.
As a casual RuneScape player, Sailing and Taming sound more easy to get into and learn than Shamanism.
They could add clue scroll things, deep sea bosses, treasure hunting, PvP, skilling locations, even a new raid
Also hyped to see some new water graphics, the current ones look so bad lol
Jagex the best gaming company to communicate to the users! Great job Jagex!
Taming ruins pet hunting, sailing sounds cool, shamanism makes combat more complicated.
taming gives pet hunting new meaning, you will use those pets as high level tamed beasts
I think they all sound cool, unique, and fun. This is gonna be a difficult, but exciting choice.
How ABOUT DUNGEONEERING - That was lit when it came out in RS2.
Seriously... there is no clear winner here.. all 3 look fantastic!
Sailing just seems to have everything in it! Exploration at its finest with content to fill in the gaps. Really hoping sailing passes but if not, then taming.
"Taming" does make sense in the medieval context, but it does sound like it will be the exact same as summoning
@Chachapoia So perhaps more like animal husbandry?
Then again I suppose animal husbandry is the same idea as taming. I think Husbandry would be a cooler/better name
Let’s have all three at some point.
Or, you can pay a large amount of gold to an NPC to revert the item back to it’s original state to make it tradeable again.
i can't wait to tame my chaos elemental
If You combine Something like Sea of thieves for Sailing with ''Mystery'' element Where let's say you can find various mystery islands with new mobs, resources, dungeons etc By exploring that would be crazy! But the thing is, we need like random generated islands or something like that, not to get bored after week or so and always find something new.
Why would I sail there if I could teleport? What next, speed walking or magic carpet riding as a skill lol
