  • Host Al Spoler goes crabbing with Capt. Jason Williams of Patuxent River Seafood in Broomes Island, MD. Soft shell crabs are only available for a limited time each year, and Jason has a "hands-on" approach to catching them. Viewers watch as Jason and Al head out on the river and scour sunken tree limbs for hiding crabs. Then, they return to the shore and wait for the crabs to shed their hard shells, before cleaning and cooking them. After the crabs emerge with their still-tender new shells, they cook up a delicious recipe for fried soft-shell crab sandwiches.

Always amazed at how they keep them from fighting. Blue crabs are ruthless

You're not a respectable Eastern Shore Maryland resident until you've eaten a crab.
But you know what's more impressive? Getting pinched by one!

Some day crabs will be gone from all of the over harvesting.

      Nope. That will never happen.
I crabbed the Albemarle sound in the 90s. It was being severely overfished. Eventually, folks could no longer make a living. Boats and homes were sold and people went away. I sold my boat in 1997. After a few years, the fishery began to recover. I went down there in 2008 to run shedder tables (raising soft crabs) for a friend who still had boats. There were crabs.
Crabs are like flies. You can never catch them all.
