The Otherlands animations were funded by proceeds from the Alice: Otherlands Kickstarter campaign. Backers contributed to achieve several goals: Secure an option on the Alice feature film rights, create physical backer rewards, and fund the production of 2 animated shorts.

i think alice's most impressive ability throughout the whole series is her ability to magically change her dress for every situation
We need another Alice video game. There aren't any other games out there quite like the Alice games, at least not like the way American McGee does them. I think EA should really do one more at least, and even if they don't make a ton of profit, they're gona get filthy rich off of Star Wars BF. It would be a shame not to see another Alice game, truly one of a kind.

+American McGee Hello Mcgee, i have a question regarding a certain bug in Alice: madness returns. When you get to the point where you grow big in the courtyard and at some point during that you become unable to continue through the game do to some part of the game locking itself. I've played the game tons of times to try and see if it was just a corrupted file, but later found that many people online had the same problem ( on the PC version). Are you ever going to fix that bug in the steam-sold version? I really wanna finish the game.
+American McGee Have you tried talking to other publishers who might be interested in funding another Alice game (and buying the rights from EA), like Paradox, Rebellion or Team 17? I don't know if these publishers could provide the kind of funds that you would need, but they all seem to be interested in expanding their catalogue of games.

Jules Verne ( JV): (Surprised, turning to face Alice)
Mm?
JV: Now how did you get all the way up here,

A : Likewise, Mr. Verne…
Why not come back down with me?
JV: My final science adventure novel…
The ultimate destination of man.
A : Perhaps you shouldn't put a rocket before
the horse? So to speak.
JV: Pardon mademoiselle, but what is the
purpose of this inquisition?
A : Quite simply, you have not shown them far
enough... Within.
JV: Utter nonsense. What could be deeper than
the center of the Earth?
A : Not exactly the right question, but I
suppose it’s a start.
Well Mr. Verne, shall we?
JV: What manners! You haven't properly
introduced yourself - yet presume to seek
my companionship pour une aventure?
A : I'm Alice Liddell. And like you, I never
refuse a... How do you refer to it? “Voyage

JV: (Debating whether to join her) Mmmm…
SCENE II (The Spaceship and Balloon)

Will, in turn, inspire others. I wonder, what
does Mr. Verne fear?

A : (Swiping at the four ropes)

JV: Ah. But that which surrounds us I neither
recognize nor fear. Of what nature is this
beast, which you have manifested?
A : With neither a beginning nor end, it has not
yet revealed a discernible shape, though try
as I have to cast light upon it.
A : (As she pulls the lever)
Huh!
A : An undeniable Leviathan, yes, but always
just out of sight… omni-present…
encircling… suffocating.
JV: Aversion and wilful ignorance. Both only
temporary solutions. Nonetheless, give me
the wheel.
SCENE IV (The Cavern)
JV: Though not yet understanding the nature of
your own beast, you presume to guide me
towards mine?
A : Your scepticism is justified, but lacking full
clarity does not induce nor justify inaction,
nor has it ever.
A : But yes, even advances by those of noble
intention are not immune from unintended
consequences... Whether from lack of
foresight or external manipulation.
JV: On the importance of perpetual reflection
I concur. But can men of free will be
persuaded so?
A : Perhaps not. But I’m here, aren’t I? Do you
not feel responsibility for the endeavours of
those you inspire?
JV: Mmm… Deeper than the humble
beginnings of man is his dark nature.
A : Then, will you take us there?
SCENE V (The War Tower)
JV: I now wonder. Is this hell?
A : Perhaps you fear it may one day become
reality.
JV: Only hell on Earth can halt man's destined
ascension to the heavens.
JV: (Reacting to the first cannon blast) Ah!
JV: Yes, our very brightest will lead mankind to
one of two inevitable ends.
A : You know the question now.
JV: Yes.
JV: Though first guided only by blind intuition,
I have been here before. I return now, with
a question… and a purpose. To reveal the

i have to be honest watching this was hard. the animation looks like something the media arts class at my high school would do as a project but after getting past the animation i enjoyed the story.

I’m so glad I’m not alone in that. And I could hardly understand his accent either. A thick accent is one thing, but he wasn’t annunciating either, so with low volume I missed a lot of his lines.

Raven Shirwood , exactly. On my phone’s speaker, there were many points where I couldn’t understand him, and that means the story didn’t work for me. Between the mediocre/poor art and the unintelligible character, this video is trash, despite having thousands of financial backers and a bunch of workers.
This is cool, but I get no "American McGee's Alice" feeling from it. To be honest, this feels a lot like "Doctor Who". Not a bad work, but it doesn't fit in the same Universe as the games.
I think thats the point. Because we're not in Alice's head anymore, we're in others, and this is Verne, the man who gave us 20,000 leagues under the sea.

stupid EA, abandoning such deep well of creativity to wither and dry when this could've been a succesful trilogy. Although....I disagree with the idea of Alice going into other's minds, I'm sorry, but I think this idea isn't good. Something more like exploring "Londerland" so Alice can get out of there seemed way more fitting. Not to mention your idea of Ozombies gave me a huge hype. After playing (and replaying) Alice Madness Returns, the idea of a similar game with the Wizard of Oz seemed outright BRILLIANT. I suggest you make this a thing ;)

Even if the animation looks like RWBY, this story is interesting. Alice is a bit judgemental about Verne's work since she saw what the evil doctor from the second game did, but I am more interested in Verne's thoughts. Science is universal and can lead to either heaven or hell. It is humanity that can use science for evil, and that is what worries Alice. Of course, the study of the nature of humanity can prove that science would one day be able to find out how to make a better future for everyone. There is so much work to be done and so many tea parties to have.
RWBY animation gets better but yeah the video did a interesting anaylsis of jules vern
+American McGee if you happen to read this comment, thank you so much along with everyone else at Spice Horse for creating this wonderful franchise. Alice in Wonderland was one of my favorite novels as a child and playing the first game helped open my eyes to video games as a legitimate venue for storytelling. It's sad that gaming companies are ignoring the development of single-player games with meaningful stories that have great replay value in favor of pure multiplayer online games that don't have much longevity to them such as Star Wars: Battlefront.
P. S. The Dollhouse from Madness Returns remains the most disturbing level I have ever played in a video game.

The problem is that EA has leeched away Spicy Horse. They hate to give when they prefer to take. For my part, I am unsurprised at Alice mind-diving. American had the skeletal remains of the Psychonaut in Alice's mind in Madness Returns.
Finally more Alice. God I hope they get the rights back to make a third game though.
You might have seen it already but they have one in mind called Alice: Asylum and it’s probably going to be set in when she was at Rutledge.

Proper subtitles would be fantastic, it's sometimes really hard to understand the thick accent and I'd really love to be able to read along.
+BaldDumboRat My friend, you forgot that the one who is speaking, the original Jules Verne, was a french man! So there's no mistake here. The actor is speaking english with french accent.

+Pedro Sacramento That doesn't mean anything: i am French, and yet, his accent is more a distraction than anything else. When your short movie rely so much on dialogues, you have to make sure everybody understand it. Here, wether you know a little about French or not, it's just a weird addition in the sake of realism while the rest of the short movie is set in a dream like world. It's a questionable choice at best, and a barrier for newcomers at worst.

I love how Alice is becoming confident After she push Dr. Bumby into a train. She finally avenge her family and finally gets her sanity back.

Have you ever thought about talking to another publisher about buying the rights for the game & working together with them? I feel there's a lot you wanted to work with when it came to Alice. The philosophical messages in the games are quite interesting & the concept of peering into other minds of significant people of the past is a great idea. However it appears what holds you back is funding. I would think there would be at least one company that could understand what you're trying to do & see the potential in it if it were combined with stable game mechanics.
We can think about this sort of thing all day. Thinking about it has nothing to do with the reality of EA owning it. EA has a solid history of never selling their IP to outside parties. This is typical for corporations. Nothing to be done about it.
im so sorry, so much creativity stifled because of our modern societal structures. reminds me of something ........best of luck id love to see more of these short films realized.

Plus, I believe with Spicy Horse being located in Shanghai, the anime style is popular there. It's actually done quite well for the lack of funds American and his team had. The American McGee's Alice was one of my favourite game. It was so atmospheric, in the Pool of tears I nearly cried.
I was excited when I heard Alice's story will continue, and I saw when American McGee stepped on a stage to introduce his game. And after that I don't remember who was there, but I felt their words sounded like "Thank you, American, now get out, we have more profitable games... I mean... more interesting games to show". I was angry. I don't like EA since then. And they are still working on to not like them. Need for Speed, Mass Effect (3), Dead Space, so many good games sacrificed on the Battlefield...

+American McGee hello, i recently beat Alice: Madness returns, i have to say that i loved the game. Good work on the Alice series! Music was great, story was dark and twisted, combat had a distinct flow to it that felt really unique, and the whole thing felt like what an insane wonderland should feel like. Dark, demented, and something that i felt i liked less than the parts when Alice was in the real world. Speaking of which, Alice's personality is the best i have seen in a female character for a long time

I LOVE THIS SO MUCH! People bitching about quality and art style is ridiculous. I absolutely love the idea of Alice going on to help others after doing her own inner journey of self discovery and healing. I love the philosophical discourse and deep questions. This is amazing and I'm happy the same person who did voice acting for Alice has returned in both of the Alice Otherlands animations. I'm years late to discovering the games and these side animations but I really want to say well done!!! 💖
I get that they were going for anime style but this isn't anime at all, it's just crappy CGI trying to be anime. I've seen anime-styled fanarts of Alice that are actually pretty good, I just wish this looked more like that.

The digital copy is available and the art is quite beautiful in my opinion. I'm not positive what was said but I'll check to see. I just could of sworn somewhere it was clarified that it wasn't CGI. Maybe American said it himself. Seems it was the latter. Anyways, I wasn't saying that you were wrong, just so you know.
Well, you have to realize that this looks like it came straight from MMD where you can create and animate characters.
MMD itself doesn't look too good.
I actually enjoyed this.
I had to watch this over and over for it to grow on me. I like the philosophical aspect they had for this one.
From what I can tell, the animation software used to make this short is most likely Poser Software. This is because I noticed similarities between the style of this short and Rooster Teeth's RWBY, especially the first three seasons.
I respect other opinions but here's mine: I did not like it, not because it's in anime-style, not because of how it's different from the previous games due to the little budget(yes, I did read the descriptions and all about the campaign), but because of the plot line. I did not like the overall story. This is not going to the direction I imagined after Alice Madness Returns. Alice overcame her past, her guilt, and the murderer...now she can magically sneak into historical figures' minds and become a heroine to save them? I'm sorry, this is too forced, unrelated, and just stupid. It simply destroys the character development for Alice.
There were so many unsolved points left in the second game, the main question being "What is Alice going to do now?" Her family passed away, the asylums or psychiatrists are unreliable, and she is nothing but a lunatic in 1800s London(at least from the citizen's point of view). How is she going to find her role on the miserable, cold-hearted society in UK during the industrial revolution, while sustaining her own unique Wonderland? Or is she going to confront the society? If so, where does she belong?
I wanted to know the answers to these kind of questions. Unless I missed anything in the previous game.) This is all about "what is madness"? What is the justice in Alice? Not Alice becoming a heroine with super powers...what even motivates her to save others?? I did not find any clue in this video; it seemed like Alice has completely changed to a different character.
Again, it's just my opinion, and the whole idea of Otherlands could be interesting. But I do not think the storyline is consistent anymore, and it was very disappointing for me.

TBH, I think it'd be cooler if she went into the minds of other deranged souls and helped them find piece 😋 Sort of like a psychiatric hero.
Good news is that he's working on making another game, Alice Asylum. Sadly I don't believe it continues after the events of Madness returns but is something like a prequel to the first with or events that happens in between the first and second game.
But I can understand the dislike of this short when you want to know how she can survive half mad.
I like tge idea of the other minds from Otherlands but how about she entered the minds of those cold hearted citizens to see why they act so rude and hostile?
AMR sucks because it is underdeveloped. The only thing that makes sense is AMA.
Reading about what we could have had with Otherlands makes sad, but at least we have these two. Hopefully there will be a fanproject that finishes it. And of course good o'l fanfics. If Mcgee is okay with that.
The last thing I expected from this series was an Anime Artstyle.
Anime art style with cell shading..? I'm sorry, but I *seriously* hope this is just a concept and not a final, no offense. Especially after seeing how well you guys did with the environments, effects, and textures of Madness Returns.. Adding blood splatter to a flat skin colored and cell shaded model is just.. No. Not the same feeling of dread you get from the original and Madness Returns. :|

Where does the dialogue come from? I love it! Sophisticated, totally believable for the 1800s, yet just subtle and eccentric enough to have a real Wonderland aftertaste to it.

There have been multiple times when my favorite shows seemed like they would not come back, or be finished, or be dubbed in America... so I would be very sad for years on end. The companies insisted on it not happening, but yet years later they did come around :) None the less I believe Alice WILL have a 3rd game at some point in time. I know the rights thing with EA is tricky but I believe in the beauty of American Mcgee's Alice. It has touched and inspired me on such a deep level. There is no way something so creative and unique like this could be shut down for good.
Leviathan really likes playing the villain characters in all these Voyages Extraordinaires of the mortal minds. I guess if someone must, might as well be the best.
I'm not familiar with Jules Verne's work but after watching this clip, I feel I should read his stuff.

In truth I had admire this for many years. Even then it took those years for me to understand to truly appreciate what I see. Many nights before I have questions the driving forces of man. Our creations and even our darkest side. What lies at the end
I enjoy this one, it delves into the psyche of humanity as a whole, and I know there will be more I wish I could help out with the money issues, one day I'll try to, I'd really like to see more of this become a reality, like the game.
At first, I thought...I don't...really like it...And then a day later (today), I'm like...I want to watch it again...And now I really like it lol. I think it just wasn't what I was expecting at first, but you did a good job, especially considering how your funding was divided up. (I read your comments about how most of the funding went to getting the film option and backer rewards.)
You should definitely start another kickstarter for the live action movie. I know some people are a pain in the butt and think they own you for donating 20 dollars lol, but I promise the majority of us are not irrational and support you 100%!

I wish so much that these shorts could eventually be longer, along with new worlds from new minds. Alice has grown to become so strong and confident, there's definitely so much more she can achieve!

Tbh, the animation could have been better. Also, it could see why some people didn't like the style. However, what it lacks in animation makes up for its writing. Overall, it's decent.
Wish we could have gotten more of Alice Otherlands. At least we have these two. The same goes for Alice in general, I guess all we have is fanfiction, fan projects, and the possibility of Hayter's tv show.
The dialogues are absolutely amazing.
I wonder if Mr.Mcgee can rebrand the alice series for another publisher...like, The Wonderland Chronicles: Alice.
in case no one has noticed, all the scenes in this video were inspired by jules verne's books, including: "Around the world in 80 days", "20,000 leagues under the sea", and "journey to the center of the earth"
UG I really wish more of these got made…I was skeptical at first but I keep going back to this one specifically, because we get to see this dialogue play out in a wonderland dreamscape…even if I’m not wild about the CG, I think it works. I would’ve loved to see more of this…maybe someday? :’D

当科技发展从目的变为手段。人们为了满足欲望而驱使科技，而不是勇敢面对自己的无知去探索世界时，我们将走向终结。
作者知道了问题所在，却也无法解决，“因为我们都有责任（凡尔纳最后一句话）。”
I wish this was a game. This trilogy has the most character development, in-depth story line and amazing rpg machanics.

Everyone did a wonderful job in this Alice short. I can only hope this will lead into bigger and better things for Alice, American, and his team. I thoroughly enjoyed the Alice games and hope EA will eventually turn loose on whatever agenda they have to keep the Alice series dead. I don't think any party would be disappointed in the turnout if a green light was given to another game. Alice is a very popular series and incredibly unique. I'm absolutely obsessed with the character, art, story, and music. Also where things could go.

For those of you that don't know, there was supposed to be a Madness Returns movie directed by Wes Craven (nightmare on elm street and other Freddy Krueger movies, Scream, The Hills Have Eyes) R.I.P. Hopefully a new director can pick it up and make a great movie. Video game movies don't usually turn out well but I think that the Bioshock movie directed by Gore Verbinski might have been great if he had more money at the time.
Now this was something amazing! Has the original surrealism to it. The most interesting adventure of Alice in my opinion.
Of the two Otherlands shorts, this is by far the better of the two.
This is like RWBY. I think the animation style should look like the games. its what gave the games their charm.

Here, Alice THINKS she is the one who is guiding Jules Vernes into the depths of his mind for him to learn a fundamental lesson, only for Vernes himself to be able to discover it, as if the conclusion of the journey as inevitable. Alice merely sped up the process and, I think, may have learned more.
Personally, I think this one is the better of the two shorts, as there is an actual story to explain the journey, and overall I like the direction this short made with a usual story set up.
But why does Otherlands feel like an afterschool special?
So from what I've read on how he wanted to continue the series, these two short films, and the fact the next game is likely going to be titled Asylum, it looks like it'll basically be a less goofy (not meant in a negative way at all) version of Psychonauts.
I have the art book for madness returns. The art in the book and this animation makes me think a graphic novel series would be great..

Si siguen la historia tampoco pueden decir que se aleja del contexto... piensen un poco, Alice es consciente del estado del bajo Londres, vivió lo que es que usen a los niños y reformen sus mentes y ahora posee poderes entre el mundo físico y psicológico, ¿no seria razonable que los aproveche y entre en la mente de los grandes personajes históricos para influir un cambio para el futuro? pues ese es el objetivo, cambiar el mundo para que nadie mas viva lo que le hicieron a ella.
Ame cuando Verne le pregunto si le tenia miedo al fuego y ella contesto que ya no mas. La aparición de Bumby también fue inquietante. Espero con ansias que todo salga bien y señor McGee, usted es un fantástico artista, por favor no se rinda. Saludos de Argentina.

Have you heard of the game company 'GRiN'? They made a twisted, dark version of the little red riding hood that really looked like Madness Returns...It's called 'Woolfe: Red Hood Diaries'
It would suit more if american mcgee worked for GRiN instead of EA because:
-Grin is known for the dark,twisted tales, I heard
-Mcgee can make Otherlands instead of EA blocking his way
-Grin will make more Dark/Twisted tales if it wasn't bankrupted...Woolfe wasn't a succes because of the arrogant gamers...
-Alice must be embarresed being the only good game in all EA...

I think that one great direction to go with this franchise would be the interactive storytelling route that Telltale has popularized. My favorite thing about these titles has always been the world building, the atmosphere, the special insanity of this particular incarnation of Wonderland. Honestly, I'd like to see a bit more brutality, a bit more horror, and more twisted stories.
I wish this idea was explored with someone who was more mad then Alice, more schizophrenic. Could Alice even survive? How would Alice handle someone like Sergey Taboritsky from TNO?
After replaying Alice: Madness Returns, I thought this would give me a little more. Unfortunately, this feels nothing like the games.
i just want a new alice game, that dark an creative art style and carneval music. Only American Mcgee with spicy horse can do that.
I originally thought this was RWBY, but I'm here for the story and don't mind whatever medium this comes in. I just completed Alice Madness Returns on steam but realised it is no longer listed as a game on sale. What I am truly looking for is a way to continue my journey in this world of Madness.

The dialogue is top notch philosophical waxing, you just need a solid animation team behind you, Mr. McGee. Hell, I loved the stop motion of the other short. Keep the nightmares coming, my friend.

Not sure when Alice picked up all this introspection and philosophy she always seemed very dazed and out of her element during the games. I know she essentially mastered her own mind but I'm surprised it changed her character and brought her alot of wisdom and the confidence to argue morality with someone like Verne. Kinda feels like there's a chapter missing.
