- This is my official review of the brand new Netflix series, Bodkin, the nine episode Netflix mystery. A group of podcasters set out to investigate the mysterious disappearance of three strangers in an idyllic Irish town. But when they start to pull the strings, they find a story much bigger and stranger than they could have imagined.

For some inexplicable reason, this show is listed on Netflix as a COMEDY!
I said too my mom we were confused. Lol.
It's supposed to be a black comedy, but it doesn't succeed. The supposed lighter moments just end up being cringe.
Love it ! Finish it a few days ago ❤❤❤
ANother fantastic video! Thank you Austin!
I liked the characters but would would not want to around people like them in RL. Having them calling each other on their BS was fun. The Scooby Doo mystery wasn't interesting but having it set within the some historical context and having it undercut the tourist image, worked. When it strayed into some meta commentary it seemed like it was not taking itself too seriously. I don't think it needs another season but wouldn't mind a spin off for Dove.
Watch the "Obituary" series, has the same lead actress. Absolutely masterful acting and the story is very will written.
Just finished it tonight. I liked it at. Will Forte was great. As was the rest of the cast.
Very insightful review.
This is an Irish program with Irish actors and Irish sensibility and writers has nothing to do with the UK even people from the UK would say the Irish way of looking at things and sensibility is very different
Ehh
@@AustinBurke Ehh. What?
Not worth my time
@@AustinBurke I pointed out there an inaccuracy in your review and you wrote ehh! Ok you literally called Irish people part of the UK why not called Canada part of the United States.
Listen to what I said again… very carefully.
More Netflix video reviews would be great. Blood of Zeus is outstanding, FYI.
I'm with you, I land a out a 7 out of 10 for this one. I really liked the Sheamus character, and Dove. And the middle parts had the strongest episodes, the ending had me nit too emotionally invested? Also did I miss what happened after the explosion (spoiler question) where did he go?
All they’re missing is Darby O Gill ..
Loved this show so much! Wanted more episodes just to stay in the quirky-creepy vibe just a bit longer.
May December?
BOOM
Have you not seen and reviewed If yet?
I liked the idea of the show, but it was essentially poorly executed, especially failing towards the end. The endings for the three main characters made no sense.
Dove is on the run? But settles down at her old nunnery to make an article or podcast? Her childhood "home" perhaps one of the first places the police would look for her.
Emily is a character that starts out pretty interesting, but turns worse and worse, and is by far the most purposely hypocritical character of the three, even though the show attempts to paint her as being righteous, it entirely fails. In the end she gets a job based on a non-story, based solely of Dove reporting that she did a good job, for a couple of days, that whole interaction made zero sense.
Gilbert is unintendedly hypocritical about the wreckages his podcast can leave behind, and is up until the end blind to this truth. However he purposely leaves his life in shambles?
Then there were a bunch of loose plotlines, not to mention what was happening with Teddy during the Samhain was all over the place timeline wise. The wrapup was terrible, the first three episodes were pretty fun though.
It is a shame, with a tighter script and dialogue, they could really have had something, the chosen actors all plays their parts well, as well as the cast of side characters. If there were should have been a sequel, it should have been Dove being arrested, Gilbert hiring Emily after clearing his debts with the podcast and then trying to figure out who leaked the NHS worker's name with the the obvious idea of the suicide being a murder halfway through, dove being on a parole after the first 2-3 episodes helping the investigation along working on the podcast.
Which could easily have led into a third season with all of them working on the podcast. Wishful thinking.
I'll watch the rest of the video when I'm done with the series, HOWEVER, after watching two episodes, I'm a little meh so far.
Problem I'm having is that the "reporter" is such an insufferable BRAT! It's really hard to give my time to unlikable characters. I'm not talking a good VILLAIN! Loves me a good villain for sure! But that lady so far is just sour!
Ireland is not part of the UK Austin
UK style of humor
That style of humor
@@AustinBurke ok, good save 🤣🤣
I meannnn that’s what I said tho 😂
Fair enough!
The UK knows how to do drama and comedy. They're the best when it comes to movies and shows. I recently watched the murder mystery show Ridley on PBS Masterpiece. Incredible. Austin I'd feel like you'd love the British sitcom Not Going Out. It's got a very snarky sense of humor. All the episodes are on youtube. It's the UK's longest running sitcom but the great thing about UK shows are that they're never more than 8 eps a season.
It's set in Ireland with a mostly Irish cast, so not UK
I’ll have to check that out
@@AustinBurkeI cannot recommend "Derry Girls" enough. 19 half hour episodes, 3 series. Best comedy in years. Another Irish show worth catching is KIN. Pretty good family Dublin set criminal gang drama starring Charlie Cox. Well worth a look.
Interesting enough this is not a UK comedy nor is it British it’s Irish. And Ireland does not belong to the British Isles. It’s the British and Irish Isles with the Program.
Worth it?
No,
Really I wish I hadn't invested my time in this
No is Bad in the last episodes
Not as bad as True Detective 4, but very close.
Convoluted. Lost track of all the sub plots and who's who of the secondary characters.
Shame though, looked to be good.
Tonally, it's all over the place. (The bad language, in particular, very jarring). Pointless and unnecessary subplots. Very annoying female lead. Ridiculous direction and plotting...Strangely watchable! 🤷♂️
The language might be jarring to a non Irish person but it really is how we speak at least normal people 🤣 she also I agree she was very annoying at first but then gets into her own investigation. I'm not to far into it but it's very good it's very much our way of things.
@yagsipcc287 Is Éireanneach mé! In keeping with the lighthearted tone of the show, they should have used words like feck, gobshite, maybe "gombeen". The problem with the show is that it has the lighthearted Oirishness of Ballykissangel, but the violence of Love/Hate. The show doesn't know what it wants to be, The Field or Wild Mountain Thyme.
Bleedin’ Shite show
