I'm used to cleaning my jewelry as you have in this video but my daughter got me an ultra sonic jewelry cleaner for Christmas. It uses plain water and sits on my bathroom counter. I place the jewelry in before my shower and when I get done with my shower I get it out and it's shiny clean! Sells on Amazon for $40. so it's not too pricey.
An ionic cleaner is even gentler and doesn't have the certain risk factors like ultrasonic of damage. Ultrasonic has a long list of exceptions of what you shouldn't put in the machine. Speedbrite is the one I know that has a good ionic. The ultrasonics are stronger and fabulous for many things though.
Great now I’ve gotta explain to my husband why I’ve just purchased an ultrasonic cleaner from Amazon lol. Sorry ma’am but I’m gonna have to place the blame on you 😂
Excellent, practical content. Love chunky silver jewelry, and I’ve been using the aluminum foil/baking soda cleaning method for years. The transformation gets me every time 🤗.
I like diamonds. I used to be a strictly silver girl but as I’ve gotten older both gold and silver look good on me. I usually use a toothbrush under water for my good jewelry and a silver cleaning cloth for my silver and fake silver jewelry. Buffing dry really brings out the sparkle.
I'm mostly a gold person, occasionally will mix in a silver something. Diamonds? YES! I've been using Dawn and water to clean my jewelry for years. It's the best.
I clean my real jewelry just as you did with soap water and a toothbrush, but I add baking soda. But my silver doesn’t come out that well, so your hack with the aluminum foil and baking soda & boiling water. Thank you! 😊By the way, I’m just obsessed with jewelry, I just love it! I have tons of it, too! I could wear a different piece every day for the next 20 years without repeating! 😂. I love gold jewelry 👑🫅and of course diamonds 💎💍🤩!
Thank you for this!! I’ve been needing to clean my jewelry, but I’ve been worried about causing damage. I’ve been thinking about getting an ultrasonic cleaner, but I’m happy to know that it’s not necessary. You’re saving us money!!
Aussie here the 3rd pronunciation here, smiled when you said all. I do both ways for cleaning my jewellery though I’m not very good at doing it regularly enough 😊
I use Caribbean Gem jewelry cleaner always. It’s made with banana and coconut oil and gets everything super clean, even plated and costume jewelry. You can even use it on pearls and opals. It’s been my go-to for at least 10 years now. All-natural and non toxic… you can even let your diamond engagement ring soak in it all night in between wearings! 😅
I’ve been using a jewelry cleaning solution, which, so far, hasn’t damaged any of my jewelry. I prefer silver over gold, but my favorite is rose gold. I love the pink tone against my skin. I’m not that big on diamonds and prefer colored stones like rubies and sapphires. Having said that, my favorite fancy earrings is a pair of 1/4 karat diamond studs.
Thanks for this breakdown, I was on the brink of just tossing a few pieces of my jewelry (el cheapo stuff) because it's in such bad shape. Now there's hope! I've always called it ah-lu-min-um foil, but I am friends with a couple of brits, and yeah, it's al-oo-min-ium for them. And, I've always preferred silver over gold, though in some cases I'll make exceptions. Thanks again for the tips on saving my bling!
As for the silver cleaning - this is an electrochemical reaction, so to make it quicker/better - add not only baking soda, but also salt in 1:1 ratio. Tarnished silver will be clean instantly on touch with the foil. Salt introduces more free ions to the mix which in turn helps with sulfur removal. As for the smell - do this in WELL VENTILATED AREA or preferably outdoors if you have large amount of silver to clean - because this reaction produces H2S. Which is toxic... And finally - worth noting is the fact, that if your jewelry has some designer tarnish/oxidation on it - this process will remove that too. So be careful. If you are nimble enough you can clean around those parts.
Thank you so much! I recently took all of my expensive pieces in for cleaning (i occasionally clean at home) and i had damage on my rings :( I appreciate it!
Yes! I’ve been waiting for this video from you for so long, especially regarding the costume jewelry portion. Question, would the soap and water have any effect on a real pearl if that was soaking in the solution to clean a white gold band?
its tinfoil here in NZ, HINT for silverware, you can also take micro cloth and/or toothbrush with Baking soda powder alone, for a really quick clean. Also you only need a scrap piece of tinfoil, and you can use more soda if you have a really tarnished item, or larger item. :) I have always used these methods, and it can often mean the tarnish stays away for longer too. I'm a sliver person but love rose gold also. diamonds, yes please! but opals are my fave (black ones, of which I have one of!! :) :) 0
I love cleaning my jewelry but I don’t do it enough but I do use your methods. The silver method is a game changer for me with this video. What do you think about sudsy ammonia? Love jewelry of all kinds. Love pearls, what about cleaning pearls?
I've always cleaned my rings with soap and a toothbrush, that's how my mom taught me. Love me some diamonds. I'm angling for my hubby to get me a black diamond for our anniversary, but they're quite cha-ching 💍💸🤑
Diamonds ARE a girls best friend! I am all about the gold and grew up in a time when you dared not mix gold and silver, it still kind of bothers me when I do 😂 As far as cleaning, I prefer the stuff I have on hand method. Cleaning jewelry is one of those jobs that is therapeutic and makes a good atmosphere for pondering the deep thoughts!
I love this video! I’m definitely going to try cleaning my silver jewelry using your method. Do you use the same cleaning technique on white gold? I only wear white gold & silver!
This came at the correct time I had decided to declutter my jewellery box [a bit of Swedish death cleaning ] I am in my 70 s some pieces are worthless other than a memory and my silver in particular is black. So I will clean take a picture and depending on the value get them out of my house.. I have been told one off gold earing can be traded in
A professional jeweler in Old San Juan told me to clean jewelry mixing warm water with Ajax/Bar Keepers and dish soap. Sold me the brush. I used to constantly take jewelry there to clean and maybe he felt sorry for me.
I love silver jewellery but I do have gold wedding rings and other diamonds, thankyou for the simple cleaning method, and in the UK we call it Tin Foil 😊
Thanks for the great video! I am a silver person. I have a silver chain that I have been trying to clean without success! I say tin foil and I'm from Canada, eh? Lol. I see from the brands you are using, you are as well! :)
Love jewelry!! Silver all the way! Usually Colorful gemstones over diamonds. What about silver with gemstones or costume jewelry with stones? How would you clean those?
Thank you for this video!!! I definitely don't want to invest in a cleaner for my jewelry, as I am a minimalist in that area. I do, however, want to keep the pieces I do wear in top notch condition. I live in the northwestern United States and I call it "tin foil." I wear gold jewelry and pearls. Love your videos!!! And your microfiber towels 💖
Where did you get the blow dryer? I love it. And I’m a silver kinda girl. Idk why I just don’t think gold looks good on me. And of course I love diamonds they are a girls best friend after all lol. And yes I’m gonna try your methods but I can’t lie I just ordered an ultrasonic cleaner so we’ll see how this goes lol. Thank you for all you do and for all your priceless info. You’ve saved my behind more times than I count ❤
Thanks for such a helpful video! Don't know if it's a midwestern thing (Chicago, Illinois suburb), but I call it foil or aluminum foil. I wear mostly gold and diamonds. especially colored diamonds 😀I will definitely try your method for cleaning my rings.
I clean my jewellery this way although I have a impregnated silver cloth for the quick fixes. I have some silver with peals so need to be very careful with them as with my opals. Here in Australia we pronounce the foil as do the British.
Is the tin foil part of the reaction? I don't have much real silver but I'm glad to learn this. My wedding set is white gold so I'll be cleaning it as you recommend. Thanks!
In Germany we call it "Alufolie". 😄 After I have read about the misery, the exploitation and even wars that are caused by the trade with gold and diamonds I would never ever buy gold and diamond jewellery again. Silver is less critical but the mines of the world are nearly empty and I think there might be other really important uses for this material than wearing it as jewellery. So I wear costume jewellery or none at all. And what about my real jewellery? Maybe I keep it to give my kids when they grow up to wear or to gift to their fiancé(e)s. Or I will sell them. Prices might rise in the next couple of years. And in order to get the best price, I will clean them.
I'm going to continue to not wear jewelry. lol I don't even wear my wedding ring anymore, but when I did I would stop by the jewelry store and let them clean it. Yes, I still watched the whole video anyway. LOL
I've been cleaning my pandora jewelry with the aluminum/baking soda technique for a while now but it now seems to have lost it's sparkle. Last time I tried cleaning it again, it seemed just as dull as before I cleaned it. Not sure what to do with it now. Should I use a polish, get an ultra sonic cleaner or take them to a pro?
I use silver snake chains for my necklaces (Small, neurodivergent kids. These chains hold up way better than the delicate little sliver link chains most things come with). They are a NIGHTMARE to keep clean though. :( Hopefully the bicarb one will work!
So helpful! I’m saving this. I have some Demi-fine pieces that are plated with 18k gold vermeil. Do you think they should be treated like gold or like costume jewelry? Or something different altogether? Great video. Thank you.
How easy is your method? Super easy! So why am I still going to grab the harsher shit in those red, plastic containers? It’s a hair easier, all in one, and hasn’t let me down in 50 years.
Black and white diamonds on silver; preferably than gold; I have not searched for gold pieces yet; maybe not yet given them a try; just because I grew out of white gold; no such thing yuck 🤮
Thank you for the foil, baking soda and boiling water tip. I cleaned all my silver jewelry and was so impressed.😊

@@KN-lu5ty I use my ultrasonic for my makeup brushes, works great!
@KN-lu5ty It can be used for multiple purposes. I use to the clean my makeup brushes too 👍

@@sherriross4785I hate cleaning makeup brushes. Thanks for the tip. I'm going to try this right now❣️🤎

“Why would you block the dazzle?” is my new mantra for life.
LOVE the natural cleaning alternatives vs. chemicals in store bought silver and gold cleaners. Thanks Melissa!
lol Dawn dish soap isn’t natural in the least

I'm a tri-colored gold girl. I also really love sapphires, emeralds, and diamonds.

I love these cleaning methods ! I love both metals. ❤
Thank you for cleaning info for sterling silver. I love my pieces but I had no idea how to keep them shiny. So easy!
Fabulous. In Northern Ireland we call it tin foil xxxx❤
Thanks for watching!!
Thanks Melissa! I love it all, gold, silver diamonds! Aluminum foil.
Definitely a silver person! Thanks for the tips! Any advice for platinum and sapphire? Love the channel
Yes a platinum ring with diamonds, please!!!💍💍💍💍💍💍💍
I am a silver person. Will try your cleaning tips!

I got an Ultrasonic cleaner from my kids for christmas. while i loved the gift, I think the old method for the silver at least, works better.
In Detroit, we call it aluminum foil or tin foil. But, more importantly, we call soda, POP!😬

Another midwesterner here (St. Louis, Missouri) and I grew up calling it tin foil. 🤔
I clean my jewellery this way although I have a impregnated silver cloth for the quick fixes. I have some silver with peals so need to be very careful with them as with my opals. Here in Australia we pronounce the foil as do the British.
Leave the Dawn and a small cup in the bathroom. I clean my jewelry in the bathroom as was mentioned before. 😊
Gold and diamond girl but I also love rubies!
Is the tin foil part of the reaction? I don't have much real silver but I'm glad to learn this.
My wedding set is white gold so I'll be cleaning it as you recommend.
Thanks!
Thank you for this,,, iam team gold all the way though i do silver a-times.

How do I clean my brass necklace? I live by the sea and it tarnishes like crazy.
Is gold plated / vermeil considered costume jewellery?
Hi, I'm not clear on how to clean diamonds in a sterling silver setting. Can you clarify please. Thank you! Loved the tips, btw.
I'm going to continue to not wear jewelry. lol I don't even wear my wedding ring anymore, but when I did I would stop by the jewelry store and let them clean it. Yes, I still watched the whole video anyway. LOL
I have a sonic cleaner and what silver I inherited from my mother's collection, I use a silver cleaning cloth that is disposable
Opals and pearls need special care and I take them to my local jewelry store for cleaning
i'd love to know where you found that beautiful gold bracelet... lol
Same!!
Can you tell us how to clean gemstones.
In Australia, it's just foil or sometimes aluminium foil.
many thanks
I wear Silver or White Gold. I have several Silver Indian jewelry pieces with organic stones. Recommendations?
What about silver with moissanite pieces and pearls. How do you clean them?
I like silver an old coins. Can I do the same procedure to my very old coins?
Dealers advise to NEVER EVER EVER clean your coins! It devalues them!
How do you clean moissanite? I opted for moissanite instead of diamond for my engagement ring
Should the water be hot or room temp? Thanks!
Aluminum foil

What about pearls? Currently in fashion right now.
I’m assuming white gold is treated the same as Gold??
🎉 gold 🎉
Some of my favourite pieces are silver with diamonds. How would you clean silver jewelry that has diamonds?
I call it Reynolds wrap.

My costume jewelry turns reddish, what causes that?
I generally buy quality jewelry. Silver makes my skin turn green after about 10 minutes.
In Australia we call it tinfoil
I can’t stand dazzle blockage !!
I say aluminum foil because the stuff I buy is aluminum, not tin. I clearly paid too much attention in high school chemistry if I care this much
