I think BTS is another level above kpop. They turned the music award show into their own concert. Not only they have the best live performance ability but also they spent the most money into making the show perfect. This type of stage needs huge budget.

Totally agree. Bang PD said that when they're preparing for shows and concerts, no other activities comes between them and their practice whether promotions or otherwise. They prioritize giving quality production/performance to their fans even if they'll suffer some form of financial losses for the missed business activities. BTS has always been about quality.

You shold watch the 2019 MMA performance, it's almost 35 mins long but the entire performance is worth it and ARMY would gladly watch the whole thing with you ^^ BTS are always put last to close the show and as the years go on they get the most time on screen, this is a huge contrast to when they debuted where they barely got screen time. I'm so proud of them BTS work really hard to get where they are it's not just hype and I'm sure you can see it from this short performance. BTS actually performed two more songs before Idol so they were already tired but they pushed through to deliver with 150% energy

Cool. I will have Taylor put together the full version. And the 2019 MMA is noted. I will ask Taylor about it. She struggled with what to show me because she wanted it to be a build up and a good intro. So that I can be even more blown away. It seems like everyone wants me to watch 2019 MMA. So we can work on that.

      Mikrokosmos
      No more dream

@@OrigReacts It might help to listen to each song first and understand the meaning of the lyrics before reacting to the MMA performance. Plus the theme in the last song Dionysus is based on greek mythology so BTS incorporated many references. The first song is called Boy in Luv and then the next is Boy with Luv which is a response to the previous song. After they sing Mikrokosmos a song for ARMY and then Dionysus (the Greek God of Wine).

@@inuyashalovergyal Even though I agree one can understand their message and beautiful lyricisim by analyzing each and every word and cultural reference, I also think that art in general doesn't need any explanation, "beauty is in the eyes of the beholder". They know how to convey their love for music. That's why they are where they are now, singing in Korean most of the time. Sometimes so much information from the very beginning might seem overwhelming to the reactor. 💜💜

MMA 2019 is even better! Way better! Their music videos as BTS and as solo are masterpieces. Some of them need explantion adicional videos. And BTS crosses all music genres. I almost had to laugh when I saw your reaction to the performance. I am a 55 year old woman, who like you, was not familiar with the K-Pop genre. While struggling to compile a playlist to help motivate me to workout, my 22 year old son suggested I check out K-Pop. Specifically BTS. There is something special about these extremely talented and kind hearted young men that you can't help but be drawn to. They have a charisma that has reached people of all ages all over the world. If you've watched any of their back-story, as a parent, you'll find yourself cheering for them, wanting to feed them, or just offer to do their laundry 😄. My 24 year old daughter laughs at me and says she feels like she's gained 7 brothers. 😆 I cannot even begin to comprehend the kind of hard work and dedication that these boys have put into their careers and from such a young age, not to mention what their parents must have gone through, watching it all unfold and not being able to be there to guide them through the rough times. Needless to say, at 55 I have joined my very first fanclub! Their music and what they stand for has put a smile on my face and given me a desire to dance around the room again. If your wife is a dancer, I would suggest (if she hasn't already) that she watch Jimin's dance solo from the 2019 MMA and his Black Swan performance (Jimin danced with the red fan in this video). He trained in contemporary dance, was at the top of his class, and is poetry in motion. I'll end my gushing here and let you judge for yourself. Thank you for your wonderful review and comments.

When you say boy band think less N Snyc and more like the Beetles. The boys write and produce much of their music. Many of the songs have deep meaningful lyrics and they inspire people from all over the world to embrace their message of positivity, empower people to love themselves and model how to overcome difficulties. Much of what they write about is rooted in literature and psychology. In this song RM says.. you can call me artist, you can call me idol.. it doesn't matter what label you give me, I am proud of who I am and you can't stop me from loving myself and then the visuals of the song are taken from traditional Korean culture, making sure the viewer knows they are proud of being Korean. korean award shows are 100x better in terms of production quality. the camera work sound engineering everything is better than america. if you watch bts american award performances versus korea you can just see how much better it is. one major thing that american award shows have not gotten at all is the fanchants they are just unable to include it for some reason. its so bad that they distort the sound of the performance when they try to exclude the fanchants. because you are new fanchants are a big part of the kpop industry they are certain parts of the song that the fans sing extra loud.

the most annoying thing in the american award show performances is HOW THE CAMERA MAN SEEMS TO FILM MORE THE AUDIENCE THAN THE PERFORMERS THEMSELVES... And they do it on really important parts like dance breaks, vocal showcases, iconic parts...etc every 2 minutes, the camera work is absolutely horrible and does not capture the performance well at all. They also film these fake actors they put in the audience, people who aren't even fans pretending to be some fangirls crying and screaming just to give bts fans this image of "rabid fangirls" they always loved to spread (im looking at you billboard), and turns out these girls weren't even fans of bts or knew them at all. Just payed actors. It's the weirdest thing I've ever seen, i don't know why American award shows do this. We do not care about the audience, we just wanna see BTS.

BTS isn't considered Kpop anymore, they are their own genre. This IDOL was produced when BTS was being dissed for not being Korean enough, for being too feminine, for using English in their lyrics. This was their reaction. From a Film Maker standpoint their Save Me MV might be a good one for you, it was a "one-shot" take. Also I see you are from Hawaii, there is a Hawaiian chirographer named Sienna Lalau that did their ON Kinetic Manifesto: Come Prima MV and she's even one of the back ground dancers. That one has great camera work and utilizes drones as well. Both of those have behind the scenes shooting sketches where you get to see a little bit of the camera work that goes into it, especially the Save Me one. Besides that, most of them play instruments (2 or more); they all compose, write and some even produce, to a greater extent the rap line; besides that, they have been prepared academically.
The founder of the company and the one who formed BTS, is also one of its musical creatives, but it is noteworthy that he studied aesthetics, so the value he gives to the details and the interpretation that each thing can have is understood

Before I missed a comment, yes they sang in live (they do it in concerts, TV presentations, award ceremonies inclusive in the US, well even in what they have recorded for deliveries or TV during the pandemic they do it by recording their presentation live).
They can have a group, a musical track and even a track with choirs in the background but they always sing, sometimes they put effects like auto tune but it's like that, they don't require it, they even dance and sing at the same time.

There are so many things to bts than meets the eyes at first encounter. So many things that they do right, from a music video production standpoint, music production, lyrics, performances standpoint and for me the vital and killer one, fan connection standpoint. all the different ways they find so that their sincerity can reach the audience. The types and the amount of content that they release so that the fans feel connected to them, this is what I thought when you said the phrase "bad boy" because there are no longer that "labels" in bts. They are so good at showing their humanity, we can't categorize them inder typical boyband roles like cute one, sensitive one romantic one etc... it is no longer easy to describe their charachters because we saw them in so many of environments displaying every type of emotion, and speaking as candidly about them as they can. We know so much about them, and they release endless content but they are still able to keep their private life to themselves. I would also like to note that they've always been in control of their lyrics and also produce. And they weren't always as polished as now, it was a journey. I got carried away with this comment, but what can I say, I'm still very fascinated by what bts was able to create with their fans (ps. The connection they created is unique to them not all the kpop industry, please judge them separately), i remember my fascination better when i see someone encountering them for the first time. This performance is probably one of my top favs by BTS. All the references of Korean culture, (the colors, performers, instruments, costumes, dances, etc.) and mix of traditional and modern elements, and all that energy by everyone, including the audience, just blows me away. It's so good!
    *Your Questions*
Oh, to answer your question of who's who, the redhead is Taehyung, and there wasn't a blond but I think you meant the guy who did the fan dance (he's actually silver-haired in here but he's also the only one with a lighter hair color, so I hope he's who you meant) is Jimin. They are both vocalists (2 of 4).
They don't have any any designated personality traits like there were with 90s western boybands, but the leader (who is like a team captain) is RM, the guy who starts singing/rapping the song. He's also 1 of their 3 rappers.
The guy who started the video (dancing with the female drummers) is J-Hope, another rapper. And the other guy who did the extra performances in the beginning (with the cloths and mask) is Jungkook, who is 1 of their 4 vocalists, and the youngest.
The last rapper is Suga (pronounced with the same first syllables from "shooting guard") and he's the one in the golden pants and black overcoat, who did a front kick during his part in the main performance.
And the last vocalist is Jin, who is also the oldest in the group. He's in the dark blue overcoat with black pants.
I've been a fan since 2016 and I'm OT7, so you could say all of them are my favorites (we call these biases in kpop, and close 2nd/3rd favorites are called bias-wreckers). I've been bias-wrecked so many times by all of them over the years that I just say they're all my biases (and bias-wreckers).
    *Recommendations*
They cover a wide variety of music genres too. So I hope you react to more from them. I'm not sure what to rec, as I'm unsure of which genre you're into.
Since you do filmmaking, I'd love to see your take on their *Fake Love* or *Black Swan* music videos. They have behind the scenes videos for those too, so it'd be interesting to hear from your perspective.

I loved this reaction, it made me chuckle so many times. "Is he the bad boy?" Got it in one. EDIT: After reading another comment, I will amend, he likes to play bad boy sometimes, but a better description might be most chaotic or unpredictable, because he is also one of the purest hearts you will find. All of them flex in and out of each other's strengths and quirks. END EDIT.
"I'm so curious now, who are each of these guys?" Exactly my response from my first viewing. To name one thing that sets them apart, it is so clear that they are individuals and that makes you want to know them. You are in for so much fun and amazement if you keep exploring this mountain (or deep well) of content. I'm going to recommend something slightly off the main track, that I think you will enjoy for the very different and artistic settings of a live performance: "Blue and Grey" on MTV Unplugged and then in their PERMISSION TO DANCE ONSTAGE concerts in L.A. This very personal song works so well in those very different spaces.

Cool. I am excited to see that. Someone also recommended their tiny desk performance. I love how you mentioned that Korea, through their entertainment industry and the "Hallyu Wave," has broken down barriers and stereotypes. I think that there are many of us that have been tired (for a LONG time) of the stereotypes that are constantly put in our faces by Hollywood. This applies to all people. The white blonde isn't always the mean girl. The cool best friend doesn't always have to be black. The nerd in class isn't always the Asian kid. I think most of us are intelligent enough to understand that, yet the film industry keeps doing what they've always done. It's old. Those of us who are fans of foreign dramas especially from Korea, China, Japan, and Thailand, know MANY Asian heartthrobs, and villains, and drama queens. It is Hollywood that seems behind the times and out of touch. I hope to see your work steer clear from these stereotypes.

But when I attended for the first time an awards show (MTV), I found being in the audience to be super boring and FLAT. I have been a fan of BTS for four years now, and I am a 65-year-old female. I like BTS because of their music, dance, humor, and sincerity which shines thru. You made me realize something, award shows here in America do not showcase the fans but the stars, and that could be why I never watch them. Whereas Korean Award Shows put more focus on the fans. And that is what BTS is sincere about. We know that BTS really appreciate ARMY, fan name, and they never fail to thank ARMY as they step up to the Mic to thank us. Listening to you reminded me how I became an Army. I got curious about them after watching iLand (a reality show to form a boy band), the participants had to learn songs and choreo. I got surprised how hard it was, and loved it so much that I wanted to know more about BTS. And I am 51 y.o.! LOL. The love yourself message, the UN speach... We news more BTS in the world!
I used to be a rocker listener, now I enjoy BTS songs everyday. The quality and meaning of the songs are really something! They make me happy and that's what I want in my life now, to be happy.

The member who was the one who danced first, his name is j-hope, and this entire stage came from his idea for a concept for the stage - to use the traditional Korean dancing and music and instruments and clothes for a stage combined with more modern elements. He is the dance leader and main dancer, one of the three rappers and song writers, and he can sing too. He has solo releases as well and has shown some intrest in getting involved in stage production more in the future, which he will hopefully take further because he has an amazing eye for what works on stage and very creative ideas.

I agree with all the other recommendations!
Not Today is also an amazing MV and the story behind Spring Day...

Most of the previous songs I was listening to before getting to know them had made me lost interest into music through lots of boredom
I hope you enjoy this journey a lot.

The first time you watch bts you will end up with a bias for one or two members but after watching numerous videos, award shoes and live concerts bias is the entire group. Each member is a distinct individual with distinct talents and yet they blend together beautifully. They are humble, confident, greatly appreciative of their fans world wide,

I am a 70 year old grandmother and am an avid fan and cannot wait until the next album and concepts. Watch the early videos from 2013-2016 and then watch videos of 2017-2022. The red-haired guy is V (vocalist and one of the lead singers). He was dubbed “the idol of kpop idols” because of his stage presence and his focused stage performances (fan cams) are the most viewed in history and studied closely by other kpop idols to copy his facial expressions and performance (but every single member of bts have their own charms and presence based on taste).

Welcome to the BTS rabbit hole. I'm an older American and I Love BTS! Don't watch other K-Pop, only BTS, as I feel they go beyond typical K-Pop. First, the 3 guys that started the show were J-Hope, Jimin and Jungkook (aka the 3J's) and they form the original dance line of BTS. That part was apparently their modernized version of a Korean Fan Dance. "V" (Kim Taehyung) is the red hair in this one, but never go by hair colors as they change often for all of them. Anyway, he once called himself a "Bad Boy", but in the same talk show later said he was a "Good Boy". As trainees, he and Jungkook used to get scolded a lot for goofing off and such. I suggest you watch a video by Ida S called Introduction to the 7 Members of BTS, and then The Most Beautiful Life Goes On (2021 Update) by The Asian Theory. My "bias" is Jungkook, who is classified as the Main Vocalist of BTS (Ida S also has a video on that), and is often referred to as the Golden Maknae (golden youngest) because he is good at everything (although he says that is not true). BTS has 3 rappers and 4 vocalists, but they are all multi-talented, and write and produce much of their own music. Several of them have their own solo mix tapes. All have some of their own songs. Last, BTS performed recently (Nov 2021) at the American Music Awards (and they won Artist of the Year and 2 other awards). That was definitely not the same as either the MMA's nor the MAMA's award shows in Korea/Asia. It gives a decent comparison for you though. They performed their collab song with Coldplay called My Universe, and one of their 3 English songs "Butter", which is a more "pop" style song. The 3 recent English songs were meant to be bright and uplifting during the pandemic. My intro to BTS was Black Swan (LOVE!!), and then O.N. Kinetic Manifesto Come Prima. Both worth watching/listening!

This song sung by BTS at the 2018 MMA is a remake stage using traditional Korean instruments. The clothes the members are wearing are also measured hanbok. At the beginning of the stage, you can think of the Korean national flag in red and blue. Along with the intro stage Omokmu, fan dance, mask dance, pungmulnori, and lion dance, all of them are traditional Korean culture. The three men of the intro, as well as BTS members J-Hope, Jimin, and JK. I explained briefly because you seemed to be asking about the stage or the members. I'm sorry if it's rude...

Those tingles you feel, are what kpop stans feel every time we see the artist we love or hear their music. Because kpop is this insular world and it feels like it’s all just between us. It’s also an industry set up to where fans and artists have this bond. The songs feel like they are written for us, they post to our fandom on social media constantly. They value the fans because they know we get them where they are, and we value them for their talent and the humans they are. BTS are unlike anyone else. They attract and support any age, gender, orientation, religion. The kpop industry as a whole has many inclusive groups.

Wow. Already more then 1000 comments. Anything I could add would be redundant so I’ll just address why I like each of them. (PS, thank you for acknowledging the team that is BTS. Their main choreographer and producers have been with them from day 1. All of the BTS boys have participated in lyrics and production 💜)
    1. Jin. The oldest member. A bit goofy, intelligent, and wise. Ballad singer “Epiphany”
    2. Suga. Came from underground rap. Was hired by BigHit as a producer and ended up being part of BTS. He’s the realist of the group and a straight talker. His MV “Daechwita” is a cinematic wonder of traditional Korean instruments mixed with hip hop. I love the variety of his cadences.
    3. J-Hope. Was well known street dancer. Became rapper after joining BigHit. I love to watch him dance.
    4. RM. Came from underground rap, first member of BTS. Is the leader which means mediator between members and company as well as mediator between members. (He debuted as Rap Monster but changed it to RM later). I like his softer raps like “Forever Rain” Speaks fluid English
    5. V - no background, ended up at BigHit by accident. Wonderful soulful voice. “Singularity” reminds me of blues and jazz. He’s the quirkiest, but I don’t think he’s the “bad boy” you think he is.
    6. Jimin - trained in contemporary dance and hip hop. Black Belt. High sweet voice, but has a great growl when he wants it. “Lie”
    7. Jungkook - the youngest. Called “Golden Maknae” because he’s so good at so many things. Sings, raps, dances, paints, boxes, builds muscle. Black belt. His has the best Pop voice. “Euphoria”
