Thanks for putting this together. Loved your WIzards of Aldur stuff and it's great to have an intro to Dungeon Synth that explains what each album is going for.
This is a really cool video ! I discover dungeon/fantasy synth very recently and it's my new favorite genres of music now ! Thank to this video i will have a lot of good musics to listen !
Council of Trees was the first album I ever listened to for Dungeon Synth starting last year. I've been a huge fan of the genre since. Most of these land in my top albums and I have great recommendations to listen to!
The Council of Trees is a great album, in my top 10 without question. My favourite album overall would be Darkrune - Book of the Black Rose, a true masterpiece. Mountain Realm - Grayshadow Ruins is a close second Bespin Moons is another one in my top 10, along Wizards of Aldur - Queen of Sorcery, the reason I found this channel :)
Thanks for this! I've been listening to Black Metal which introduced me to Dungeon Synth, and a few standalone Dungeon Synth albums for years now but just recently decided to deep dive further into Dungeon Synth in recent weeks. Will check all of these projects out! Genres like Black Metal, Dungeon Synth, Dark Ambient etc bring such an amazingly beautiful atmosphere that I just can't get enough of! I value atmosphere in music more than anything else. I've already known Dragon Keep and Castle Seige for a while and I love them.
ChatGPT cited this video having asked it for recommendations of Dungeon/Fantasy Synth similar to Tales Under The Oak. You've listed some of my favourites and a couple that were the what got me into DS in the first place - the classic UA-cam frontpage video with a cover to interesting to skip, Aindulmedir most specifically. I've now got half a dozen bandcamp tabs open to keep me busy in the dark evenings ahead.
@@Myrkskog thankyou friend! That's unbelievable. Who knew I could reach the cyber-mind itself!? I want to make more like this soon. It's a weird and wonderful rabbit hole. Love these albums, great selection. I would also add Fort Exile by Swords of Midi. Great fantasy album that has vibes similar to Castlesiege, DIM, Fief.
Thank you for this list. Some buried treasures hidden here with a nice range of styles and ambience. Well done adventurer for completing your musical quest.
Recently discovered this genre of synth while looking for some good music for a D&D campaign I am running. Wish I had found it sooner. Albums I find myself coming back to are Last March of the Goblin Troop by Goblintropp, and Realmwalker by Atlantean Sword.
Great choices. Some I was familiar with, but some I need to add to the listening list. Personal favorite dungeon synth album: The Totem Wilds Call Thy Name by Fen Walker.
The final track of sleeping wizard sounds to me like the ending of a faery tale where the protagonist marries the princess with the help of a magical being, or an old sad hermit that founds happyness in the friendship of a gnome or goblin. Sorry for the bad english, is not my first language. Im from LATAM Tales under the oak should have been the Amphibia soundtrack in a perfect world.
With dreams of the hereafter is a masterwork (Passenger might be the literal high point of the genre so far) I'm surprised Duskgreeter didn't make the list, what a fantastic first album. Or Under a Reptilian Moon from Pauldron.
Not necessarily my favorites, but here are some honorable mentions: Spell of Unseeing - Weaving Light & Shadow The Zeal of Fata - Birth of the Bizarre 死.rar - Visions Through The Water Mirror Ilmentymätön - Himmeän Hehkun Maa Paths of the Eternal - Quest For the Sacred Blade Moth Tower - Sharpen Thy Knife, Curse The Sky Slefnwald - The Conjurer's Cadence Apéliote - Wind's Tradition

The guy of the band is a real warlock who also make dungeon synth.
I'm not sure if it's a whole album, but Redhorn Gate - Carven Throne is one of the greatest of all time. So is the Lunar Lexicon, strong Winterhold vibes.
