    Lived in the Metroplex for over 30 years. Traffic is getting perceptibly worse every year. Not enough concrete for all the people moving here. Be careful. I seriously expect to come on backed up traffic from accidents each day I ride. Love your videos!

    Cruiseman, your videos are very informative and thanks for that! I, like you experience near misses while riding and I always am scanning ahead, left/right and behind my Goldwing. Every time before I ride my Goldwing I review in my mind all my safety focus criteria. This focus has aided me since 1982 when I began riding and my 4 roundtrip rides to California (3 solo and 1 with another Goldwing) from Ohio! I had a near miss last Friday while riding in the rural area. A US mail truck was traveling north and I was traveling west, he was not going to stop at an intersection ( even though, he had the stop sign) I was scanning ahead and I anticipated that he might not stop at the intersection and as he approached the stop sign. I was slowing and thankfully I was correct in covering the front brake in preparation. As we both were closing at 55 mph. I pointed at him and realized that that same mail carrier drives that same route every day and probably glances to see if he can avoid a stop sign in his mind to save time on his mail route! Hopefully he will remember to be more focused especially when approaching an intersection! And to "look out for motorcycles" !

    Great vlog, I was in Atlanta a couple of months ago and saw a F150 literally merge into a bike, thank God the rider was able to swerve right to the off ramp otherwise he would have been road kill. It's tuff riding on 121at 11:00. BTW, a lot of workers do take early lunch to beat the 12:00 lunch crowd in the metroplex. Great as always...Stay safe. and yes my wife and I love In and Out Burger..

    Maybe it looked closer in real life than in the video. In Chicago that is considered a lot of space.

    Maybe it was closer than it appeared on the video but in my opinion that guy had more than enough room to come over. I also ride a Goldwing and that lane change would not have bothered me in the slightest. Ride safe.

      The wide angle of the GoPro is a little deceptive. He was closer than it appears. I sensed that he might pull over so I slowed down and he gave no signal. If I had not slowed down, it would have been bad.

    If you call that a near miss , you need to ride a bike in the uk, France or Italy. What I call a near miss is an exchange of paint but staying on without injury.....that's a near miss.

    Traffic? You need to ride in the San Francisco Bay area! The traffic here never looks that "lite" no matter what day or what time of the day yountravel! BTW I love In-n-Out and would eat there more often if I could jut pull in and find a parking place like you did! The traffic at our In-n-Out makes yours look like it is deserted! (:>) Thanks for the video!!!

    Defensive driving is rule #1 when riding a motorcycle. Look ahead, think ahead, act ahead before you are in a situation you don't want to be in. You have to correct and adjust for other motorists mistakes. Large or small vehicles, some motorist don't see when they drive! I know that as I drove city bus for over 25 years in Toronto. Getting upset just makes your stress levels rise. Keep calm, adjust and enjoy your day. Let the other guy think they won, when it's you that did! Safe cruising!

      @sweetcostarica 5 років тому

      Excellent advice *Michael B.* Plus, in the near miss at 8:49 above Cruiseman was in the driver's blind spot (although the driver passed Cruiseman & should have known he was there). Out of sight, out of mind I guest in traffic.

    • @Mike21175
      @Mike21175 5 років тому +1

      @@sweetcostarica Invisible is how I ride because to most people, driving cars, just don't see you. Believe when I say, driving a 40 foot city bus, they don't see you either! Plan your escape route when driving and riding. It will save your life.

  • @thomaschadwick8379
    @thomaschadwick8379 5 років тому +3

    "Near miss" is a stretch. To be fair, you were in the right side of the lane, so likely in their blind spot. Color of the bike or gear doesn't mean a thing in the blind spot. And you were accelerating into their blind spot to make matters worse. It appeared that they saw you once they crossed and accelerated away. Often in these Moto vlogs, the rider verbally bashes the driver for improper lane change, lack of signal, etc....which I think is pretty hypocritical - like they're the epitome of perfect driving when they're in their cages. Please, we all do it. But when you're on a motorcycle, some people get a 'high and mighty' attitude about other's driving. In the end, you 90% responsible for your own safety. The other 10% is purely luck.

  • @PauloMealha
    @PauloMealha 5 років тому +1

    I struggled but I couldn't see a near miss.. . Just a normal lane crossing... What I saw was a bad example of a motorbike running slower than all traffic, and thus voluntarily exposing itself to danger.

  • @chuckv8212

    Cruiseman's Garage I think In and Out Burger is one of the Best out there...I don't know way people do what they just did to you, are they just oblivious to motorcycles? I just don't know. I find a lot of people are going down the road texting and just not caring about anybody but themselves. That happens to me here in Arkansas all the time. Thanks for another informative video. Ride Safe Brother.

    • @cruisemansgarage
      @cruisemansgarage  5 років тому +2

      I would say about 80% of the people I pass, or who pass me, are texting or have a phone in their hand. That is why I move to the center of the lane when I see someone coming up beside me. 6 out of 10 times they weave over into my lane.

    I live in the country and believe it or not I feel safer riding in the big cities versus out on the back roads. You stay focused 100% when you’re riding in the city. out in the country you got those crazy people flying up and down those roads pulling out in front of stop signs you have critters to contend with not very relaxing for me out on the back roads.

  • @bubbajeph
    @bubbajeph 5 років тому

    First thing I learned was.... "Everyone is out to kill you". On video, that was not as close as I endure going to & from work almost every day. People come from all over the country to drive on Virginia roads onto military bases here. They cannot drive. with other people. It is not they did not see you. They do not care. I guess you are going to show us how to wire a Kissan Headlight Modulator for the new Goldwing. Also, how and where to mount an air horn.

    Love in and out burger. I got forced over a couple lanes last month and I ended up almost cutting off a motorcycle officer. He didn't have a riders temperament. He pulled me over and gave me a ticket and said I was doing 91 in a 65. I was only in 3rd gear shifting to 4th. So your statement is so true about temperament.

    No In/Out burger here in Illinois but have eaten at them when traveling out west for business. Not a real fan, but the fries are good. I am often upset at distracted drivers especially those texting or reading email/texts while driving. I used to honk or glare at them at stop lights but after one of them gave me the finger and drove menacingly after me, I realized that the possibility of me getting hurt outweighed the "message" I was trying to deliver ("please don't kill me because you think what's on you phone is more important than paying attention to driving.")

    We don’t seem to have Inn and Out in Oklahoma. I have had it in Texas; it is good but not epic. When I am up in Canada I go for Tim Horton’s and always have a Red Robbie screwdriver around. (Look it up.)
    I think the wave is intended as an apology.

    Be careful when moto vloging as it seems you were to distracted by your thoughts. In your video the red car comes into your view going very fast, then disappears as he is breaking hard. As the traffic then begins to slow down you keep speaking at the same tempo, while this is happening I was looking at your hands and I could see that you were taking no defensive measures as if you didn’t see anything coming. Keep up the good videos!!

    • @cruisemansgarage

    Distracted drivers with in-car technology. Be nice if someday automotive manufactures be required to ensure that a vehicle cannot be operated while operating any mobile or technological device or while intoxicated. Then I woke up from the dream. Just know there’s an ass-hat out there every where. DEFENSIVE MINDSET! Ride safe and ride often.

    Just yesterday I was watching videos on these bikes and I started thinking about how much I wanted the black one but then I I was thinking about how more visible the white bike possibly is. Now, this is minimal compared to a lot of situations of course, some people are just idiots and should not be driving a car and will cut u off or run u over no matter how visible u r. But I am saying this in a sense of sensibility. I think I am gonna go with the white version. For one I think it looks so good, and two I think the visibility aspect would be beneficial. Anyone agree with me?? “Subscribing to your channel now”

    No turn signal or any indication he/she was changing lanes. Too busy texting my guess. I try to leave a pretty good buffer zone between me and the cage in front , but a lot of times cager's will steel this buffer zone from me by cutting me off, thinking it was meant for them. Crazy. When I see cagers cutting bikes off it really pssssses me off.

    • @LTVoyager
      @LTVoyager 5 років тому

      Joe Brewer Very true. I read a study some time ago that talking while driving impairs one as much as 3-4 ounces of alcohol. And this was using a hands-free phone system. Talking while driving is impaired driving, no two ways about it.

    • @cruisemansgarage
      @cruisemansgarage  5 років тому +1

      The problem with "loud pipes saves lives" is that many riders depend on the loud pipes to save their ass. All the noise in the world does not eliminate the need for safe riding techniques.
