  • The book is always better.... but is it? These are eleven examples of shows that I like better than the books they are based on. Some may be controversial.

My oldest daughter loved the Fox and The Hound! It was her favorite as a child.

Like you, have watched Mary Poppins so many times. I've never read the book. I've heard that before that Mary had quite an attitude in the book 🙂

Yeah, she just didn’t have that sweetness along with the sternness that Julie Andrews was able to portray.

It's inconceivable that you and I both love The princess Bride. Literally one of my favorite movies but I have never read the book and probably never plan to read it. This is a fun series. I look forward to the other ones. Well done

First of all, I love this series idea.
Secondly, I agree on Mary Poppins.
Yes, I liked both versions of Cinderella and Beauty and the Beast.
I know Deea loves Lark Rise. I've not read the book or seen the series!

Summer Magic was one of my all time favorite movies too!

I read the original Beauty and the Beast in 5th grade. I actually liked it. I think it can be totally different if music is introduced. And we watched Austenland last night. We watch it multiple times a year! I like how they merged the 2 books at the end. I would say it’s a toss up for Austenland.

That’s fun that you read it in 5th grade! And that’s funny that you watched Austenland just last night! Did you die? 😂

It was the coolest treehouse. They did such a good job designing that.

Now that I am reading more I struggle with this. I want to watch the movie, but I don't want to spoil the book or I want to read the book, but I don't want to spoil the movie! Some I think I will have to read first like a classic book. I also have the Princess Bride book on my shelf. I loved the movie! I have never read Lord of the Rings, but Peter Jackson really did a great job with those 3 films! I never get tired of watching them. I like this series idea and I look forward to watching the next videos!! I'm wondering if Twilight will make an appearance!!

Interesting! I just read Mary poppins and I thought I’d do a movie to book comparison for a video? I’m reading through the whole series for middle grade may.

I had been interested in reading Mary Poppins after learning it was originally a book, but then I watched Saving Mr. Banks. After finding out about the type of person P. L. Travers was (both from the movie and from my own research after watching it), I decided I have no desire to read the book.

Yeah, I really don’t have any interest in reading the rest of the books.

Mary Poppins, the book, is a bit of a disappointment after the Disney adaptation which is one of my favorite movies.
You just can’t top Lark Rise. I watch it over and over too. I made it almost all the way through the book but I never finished it. Definitely more of a me issue than a book issue.
Are you allowed to say that about LOTR?? 😂😂 I actually agree with you, but have never been brave enough to voice that opinion. The books are great, but the movies are phenomenal.

I'm not sure of you've ever read Love Comes Softly by Janette Oke, but I think the movie staring Katherine Heigl is so good and much better than the book. 😎📚

This is so funny because it was only a day or two ago that my aunt said not to read the book! I haven’t seen the show either, but she and my mom have said they love it, so I’ve been meaning to watch it.

My son and I liked the movie of How to Train Your Dragon better than the book. We enjoyed the LotR movies, but the books are ridiculously childish. I've already been beat up and ostracized for my opinion. I don't care. They were children's books, but now they're marketed towards adults. What does that say? the Hobbit, (which I haven't read, but is apparently the first book? has the highest lexile level). As a Christian, I also don't like the premise of the entire series; being demon possessed. I don't think I've seen Austenland, but I think I read the book- oh ages ago. It's pretty old, right? And I had liked Pride and Prejudice the movie, but now that I've read the book, oh Darcy comes off as a narcissist in the book. Once recognized it can't be unseen. Fun video.

I haven’t read the How to Train a Dragon books, but I’ve heard that before!
Austenland is full on fluff. I think the book came out in early 2000’s sometime.

@@CandlewickLibrary I completely forgot the dragon books were a series. I talked to Prometheus about it and he told me, 'you lost interest when you read the first book.' That makes sense. LOL

Controversial take but I prefer the ending of my sister’s keeper movie over the book. I know even Jodi picoult was angry at how they changed her book but I can’t help it. I hated the way her book ended and preferred the movie!

I honestly can't think of any adaptation where I like the movies better. 😂😂
