    Hey Pan, another very good shampoo that can be used every so often to remove tougher contaminants is Adam's Graphene Shampoo. Can't recall if you've tested that one before. Adam's describes it as a... "Traditional foaming shampoo that balances choice, high foaming surfactants, and citrus-based degreasers to generate a wash that is more than capable of powering through all kinds of road films and grime". Another attribute is the low friction characteristics that graphene provides which in theory will help prevent some marring during a wash. I believe they recommend every third wash or so. Using a Nanomitt with it works really well.

      This is totally not true. Unless you had some crappy PPF installed. Heck quality PPF manufacturers like XPEL even have their own line of ceramic coatings to be applied on top of the PPF.
      The ceramic coating will prevent the PPF from yellowing, as it helps to block UV rays, and also will provide your PPF with more slickness, and also provide self-cleaning properties making the car easier to wash, and provide chemical resistance, and awesome hydrophobic properties. Depending on which coating you apply, some can increase the gloss too, but the PPF specific coatings not as much as the paint coatings.

    If you had PPF that was several years old with an old/failing coating, how would you prep the PPF'd panels for a new coating outside of wash/iron remover? Is clay/polishing necessary to remove the old coating from the PPF?

    Coated my M2C with full XPEL ppf coverage, as well as a buddy's 911 Carrera T (also with full PPF coverage - Suntek ultra), with GTechniq Halo - in part from your video and in part from Obsessed Garage videos - and must say, it's been performing very well, and am overly happy with it. I did both cars over the 4th of July weekend in the USA, and after a couple maintenance washes since, still obviously holding up nicely. The beading and sheeting is so strong, that even the heavy suds from my foam cannon don't want to stick to the car when initiating the washing process. Thanks for the videos, Pan!

    Based on this video, I applied two coats of Gtechniq Halo to my Fiat 500 Abarth which has a "distressed patina" vinyl wrap. The 3-M over-laminate on the printed wrap has a matte finish and I was worried that this product might ruin the effect by increasing the gloss. I'm happy to say that the matte finish was unchanged and looks exactly the same as before. However, when I run my hand across the finish it feels much more slick. It remains to be seen if this coating performs as well as the Adams Graphene coating I used on my Porsche and several other vehicles, chosen also because of one of your earlier videos.
    Compared with the Adams Graphene, the prep work for the Halo product was a bit less because I didn't clay bar the vinyl wrap but the application took more effort because the Halo not only requires two coats, it also has a little more drag when leveling (wiping) the coating. However, it certainly wasn't difficult. I also miss the nifty blue UV tracer in the Adams product which glows blue under a UV light so you can see exactly where it was applied.
    For reference, I used half of the 60ml bottle of Adams to do my Porsche. It took 2/3 of a 50ml bottle of Halo to do my Fiat but I dropped the bottle and spilled a little bit. I would say that I could have gotten by with the 30ml bottle but if your car is larger than a Fiat 500 (aren't all cars?) then go with the 50ml bottle of Halo and try not to waste any. I also suspect a gloss wrap or PPF would use less product than my matte vinyl wrap.
    Thank you again for keeping us up to speed on the latest and greatest products for protecting our cars.

      Thanks for sharing your experience. Just keep in mind PPF coatings don't last as long as some of the more durable paint coatings. You should expect 1 to 2 years of protection if you applied it well, and do proper maintenance. I will also be looking forward to long term durability results in my conditions, to see how well they do over time, as they are still fairly new to the market.

    • @PanTheOrganizer
      @PanTheOrganizer  2 роки тому +1

      After PPF has been installed, it can take a few days to fully cure and settle. It's recommended to not wash the car for 7 days after the PPF is installed, and also avoid touching or pressing areas on the film for at least a week. You may notice some bubbling after installation that will smooth out once the film has completed dried and settled.

    Excellent video Pan; so good to see a pro' at work. I noticed that when applying the second square to the bonnet (hood), you overlapped the first square. Cleary, after a minute or so of drying, that created no apparent problem. So, how long can a section be left drying before application of the adjacent panel without causing any problems? You can tell, I worry for England to Olympic standard.

      Don't overthink the moment. As long as you are methodical and apply the coating in one sitting, you're fine. It takes 24 hours for the initial cure to fully happen. But you can usually correct high spots up to 30 min after the application.

    Hi Pan! If one already has PPF+ceramic coating applied, would it be advisable to use SiO2 toppers (not necessarily designed for PPF) every once in a while to help the CC last longer? And for that extra GLOSS? I'm thinking Gyeon Wet Coat, Capro Elixir every 1-3 months and maybe a ceramic detailer every now and then. Also wondering if those new Turtle Wax Graphene products (Flex Wax, to the Max Wax) would work well over a ceramic coat that's on top of a PPF. Thanks for all the awesome videos!

    • @PanTheOrganizer
      @PanTheOrganizer  Рік тому +1

      Yes I would absolutely use SiO2 or graphene toppers to maintain the PPF and ceramic coating. Gyeon WetCoat is a great simple to use maintenance product. Flex Wax is compatible too, but it's a longer lasting product, so you usually use it more as a base layer of protection, not really a topper. And Max Wax I wouldn't recommend on top of a ceramic coating.

    @Pan - you said several times both coatings are fine for matte PPF, which I have on my Tesla model Y. I wrote to the CarPro people and they said Skin may make the matte fairly glossy (maybe not ruining the PPF, but a glossy/shiny layer on top). Have you personally applied over matte PPF? Thoughts?
    The Ceramic Pro PPF installer used Ceramic Pro’s PPF/Vinyl base and top coat as a protectant in the Tesla. Thoughts on Ceramic Pro products? Would you switch to the ones in your video?
    Thanks!

      I haven’t tested on matte surfaces. But CaPro themselves, on their own official website, state it can be used on matte surfaces. Check it out here: carpro.global/catalog/cquartz-skin/
      So it seems we’re getting conflicting information from the brand.
      One thing that can happen is coatings, even matte coatings, often make the surface richer in appearance. But not glossy.

      With PPF, you want to be very careful with what you apply on it for protection. While it is technically possible to wax paint protection film, it is not a recommended practice as it may have a detrimental effect on the film’s performance. Waxing paint protection film can cause discoloration and cloudiness over time. With the advancement of coatings and paint protection technology, the use of traditional carnauba sealants have become less common as these waxes and sealants tend to degrade more quickly compared to ceramic coatings. Additionally, wax can build-up on the edges of the film, resulting in a visible white line.
      If you insist on applying a wax on your PPF, make sure that the wax you will be using does not contain any petroleum-based products, and that it doesn't contain Kerosene or Naphtha in over 5% concentration. Also avoid waxes that come with dyes.
      Also, check with your PPF installer what protection he recommends, as some PPF brands will void your warranty if you don't use their specific PPF coating.
      As not all PPF is made the same, again, check with the shop that installed your PPF for the appropriate care. If they are a professional shop that cares, they should have given you clear instructions when they delivered the final result to you.

As mentioned in the video it is a very product to use in the correct conditions. Hi just found your channel and great videos on how to prep and look after the care of your car. I am getting a new car shortly and looking to get it PPF’d Premium Shield Nxt Gen from an approved Installer. It is supposed to be hydrophobic and the installer said that you do not need ceramic coating with this particular PPF. However I love the shine and gleam ceramic coating gives and was planning to use Avalon King Armor Shield IX. Do you think this would be ok to use on my PPF? I appreciate that you mention on this video to use a specific ceramic coating that is suitable for PPF. But on Avalon’s website it says it is suitable to use on PPF. I would like to use this one based on how easy it is to apply. Your thoughts would be appreciated 👍👍

    Great video! Hoping you can clarify something for me. While these coatings are supposed to be formulated specifically for PPF, your earlier videos (and those of many others) have always said that other ceramic coatings that were not formulated specifically for PPF could still be applied over PPF. In many cases, the durability of the other ceramic coatings (CQuartz UK 3.0, Glassparency, and some others) have 2 or 3X the longevity (claims) of the two featured here. If the others can last longer, then what "advantage" is there really to these coatings being formulated specifically for PPF? If you recommend using these over traditional ceramic coatings, why is that? Or are these just two more "options" in the arsenal, without any real advantage over traditional ceramics?

    • @PanTheOrganizer
      @PanTheOrganizer  2 роки тому +7

      That's a great question and it would be best answered by the chemists that formulate these products. My understanding is that paint coatings can usually be applied to PPF but you can't guarantee the durability as much as they weren't specifically made for that purpose. PPF specific coatings will usually do a better job on PPF.

      Use a light polish like Sonax Perfect Finish. Then IPA wipe. Then apply the coating.
      The light polish will ensure enough mechanical abrasion to remove any crappy cheap wax or sealant the dealership applied prior to delivery. You want to ensure 100% bonding ot the coating to the PPF.

      @@PanTheOrganizer One thing I've just learned browsing the product pages that might be of note here is that CarPro Skin can be removed with a stripping solution, so apparently no polishing necessary if you decide to change coatings down the line. If accurate it's a great selling point IMO, and they also claim heavy UV resistance, which can be particularly important for PPF. Just comparing the product claims between the two featured here.

      If you have paint on some sections and PPF on some sections, just apply the same paint coating on your PPF too.
      Most coatings for paint can also be applied to PPF. But PPF specific coatings aren’t meant for use on paint.

    Hi Pan, great video. For the prep can I use high alkaline shampoo like Car pro reset and Car Pro Iron X on PPF to have the surface clean before applying ceramic.
    PPF has been on the car for 2 months

    • @PanTheOrganizer
      @PanTheOrganizer  Рік тому

      CarPro Reset is actually pH neutral. It's not alkaline. So yes you can wash PPF with it. And you can use IronX as well. Just keep in mind, if there's any protection on the PPF (wax, sealant or ceramic) you will also have to machine polish that off, and then use a paint prep spray, to make sure you remove any previous protection before applying the new ceramic coating.

    Hi Pan, would you do all the necessary prep steps prior to coating PPF?(decon. wash, chemical and mechanical decon. compound/polish, IPA, then coating) or are there steps you for go because of the PPF installation? and how often would you apply an SIo2 spray as a "topper" once coating is done? ( my environment is the same as yours we both live in MTL)

    • @PanTheOrganizer
      @PanTheOrganizer  2 роки тому

      Typically, the installers of the PPF should have already prepped the paint properly underneath, so you would simply have to wash the vehicle, dry it, use the IPA mix, and apply the coating.
      For the toppers, same applies as for any coating: at least once every 2 to 3 months, you apply a maintenance ceramic topper.

    • @PanTheOrganizer

      That's a question you will need to ask to your PPF installer. Usually, it's PPF first, and ceramic coating on top. So I'm not sure if the PPF will stick on top of the ceramic coating.

      PPF coatings are only to be used on PPF, not paint. In your case, it would be better to get a paint coating that can also be applied to PPF (most can, check the description of the coating you want to buy) and use one product for all your vehicle.

      Take the coating you'll be using on the paint, and apply it to the PPF too. Most paint coatings can be applied on PPF, unless otherwise noted by the manufacturer on their website or label.

      Ouch it’s hard to answer as I am not there to see it in person and don’t know all the details. It’s possible the UV did permanent damage already. Or a light polish might restore it. Your best bet is to go see a PPF installer near you and have him evaluate the extent of the damage and what could be done.

    • @PanTheOrganizer
      @PanTheOrganizer  8 місяців тому +1

      Yeah I wouldn't recommend using such a high alkaline snow foam for regular washes. It's not necessary. If you want to use it that often, at least make sure to not use it at 4-5% PIR. You should use maximum 2% PIR. For regular washes, pH neutral is all you really need. The alkaline snow foams are more for deeper cleanings to remove accumulated grime and road film every other month or every change of season. Don't forget those are strong and can potentially weaken or strip off protections like waxes or sealants.
      For coatings, assuming you have a quality coating with good resistance to chemicals (pH 2-13) it's fine to use it every now and then, but again, I wouldn't do that for each wash. You will eventually weaken the coating.
