That means R.I.P., both performers (Gene had died in 1996 before his last project, _Cats Don't Dance,_ even came out, because of which, it was dedicated in his memory).
My friend was in the movie Xanadu and he told me this was the only part Gene Kelly was supposed to be in. He liked the way the movie was going and he wanted to be in more of the film so they had to rewrite the film to accommodate him and expand the story. Three endings were filmed.
what a masterpiece this is, put together Olivia Newton John and Gene Kelly, ELO, neon, roller skates, leg warmers, damn. The whole musical score in this movie is a 10/10, this is a classic and encapsulates the 80s almost perfectly.
This is like such a romantic reunion between two past lovers who haven’t seen each other for years and now for a short while they’re finally reunited together but she’s there in sort of a ghost dream like form but at the same time she is still there but it’s still tragic how it doesn’t last the whole time throughout the film and it’s only ever occasionally actually seeing Kira and seeing only occasionally in different character forms of herself and the costume changes too.
I grew up watching this movie, i love it sm ive always wanted to learn tap 💖 i mean its from the 80s the scene transitions are a time peice but mildly funny too in todays age; the cast being inclusive af, the choreo and big fans making them etherial, the og budget which was smol, the visual depiction of another plain of existence just thrown in, THE COSTUMES and honestly the rollerskates omg i want to live in this movie ngl 😂💖🤪
When this movie came out I was about 16, now I'm 60, my view and opinion of how sad this scene is has changed dramatically. If it wasn't for the beauty and charm of ON-J, I don't think I could watch it anymore. And I didn't even lose someone all those years ago.
And so in this it changes for her matching up to Sonny’s fantasy and now she’s matching up to Danny’s fantasy from years ago as a lady singer from the war period.
Sadly Gene Kelly's last film It's too bad the story wasn't that good. He and Olivia Newton-John look great in this dance number though: he was in his late 60s and still a fantastic dancer.
It is so sorry, that the director of this movie had done such a horrible job. The male main actor was terrible, too. Music and dance scenes (Gene Kelly's last role!) should have deserved better. Instead, the idiotic director cut all nice dance scenes at the ending. What a shame. The roller scats never become very popular in the dancing locations or musicals.
R.I.P. Olivia Newton John. You'll never be far away.

This scene alone in it's entirety is so tragically beautiful. The bygones of yesteryear hits really hard.
Especially today. RIP Olivia. They’re together again in Hollywood Heaven. ❤️
Gene Choreographed and directed the Cinematography on this number. Wish he had directed the whole movie!
This was Gene Kelly's last movie he danced, and he still looked incredible and atractive
At the end he showed he could still skate too.
He previously did a "roller skate" dance number in "It's Always Fair Weather" (1955).
I'm a straight male and I have to say Gene definitely was a good looking man and so incredibly talented
How much of a honor it must have been to do a film with the great gene kelly this late in his career ✨
I loved this scene. Gene was 70 here and still moved like a young man.

I also heard he choreographed this scene to fit Olivia's dancing experience.
@@alisterfolson I would imagine that makes sense
Like a musical time machine throughout the film switching back and forth between and through the times.
I know how nervous she was to dance with him but they are so amazing together I just have chills.
From about 3:00 to 3:25, how much fun Gene and ONJ were having really comes across. It's infectious.
RIP SWEET OLIVIA😇😇😇
so elegant and nostalgic!
Gene Kelly made it look effortless and fun.

Oh so good! I love this!💜🙏🏽
FYI - the name of the song is, "Whenever You're Away from Me," *not* "Whenever You're with Me."
I came to see if anyone had noticed lol
For an old man Gene Still had it in him
rip olivia

And a literal stage made of two stages that swung together mid set holllyyyy

"Don't break a heart, Dear, No-body Else Can Mend"😔
Movie brings me back to 7th grade..
And so in this it changes for her matching up to Sonny’s fantasy and now she’s matching up to Danny’s fantasy from years ago as a lady singer from the war period.
伝説のジーン・ケリー最後の出演映画🎞🕺💃
Grande filme. Me lembra muito o pai. Do primeiro quase namorado. Tio Roque era um sonhador
I wonder if they are dancing together now
I hope so.😊
🌹
whenever you're away from me 《 actual title of this song
Different years switching back and forth.
This scene has sort of a past lives element vibe to it.
The title is wrong.
In that sort of period of time.
That’s my theory.
I have to watch this movie again. This scene seems so out of place.

Gene Kelly on LSD.
