I don’t know your climate but I live in Arizona (Arid Zone A to those familiar with the area around Phoenix) and one can actually feel a temperature drop in any shade, the famous “Dry Heat”. So maybe that’s the reason she kept them around until the started strangling the place. Mother Nature can be like that sometimes. 😜

I never understood why people would plant a tree, and some shrubs, so close to a house. In 5 more years the roots will be pushing on that basement wall and the whole tree will need to be removed. Nice job though.

Why the homeowner let their tress grew that tall, it's hard for the gardener to do that job especially if it's free, homeowner supposed to set aside fund for their gardener, that's included when planning to build big houses.
You trimmed the first tree next to house ,all the branches cut off. Why not take the whole thing down? There is no way any of branches are coming back. Just bare main trunk left ….???

That really just looks like a crawl space rather than a basement but Yes, the planting isn't ideal for either the house or plants.
