I'm sewing the binding on my 4th quilt right now! I forgot how to do the corners. My friend isn't here to help so I turned to UA-cam. I've just found you. I have followed your instruction and it's turned out perfectly. Thank you so much. I shall follow you now in the hopes that you will be able to teach me more! ❤😊
I only sew the binding on the back by hand. I've never been able to sew it with the machine well enough that it looks better than by hand. Even on little potholders that last seam is by hand.
I sew to the back and wrap to the front. Try and match your threads to the binding on the top and back on the...back. I've had trouble not catching the back with your method.
I used to cut bindings at 2.5” strips. Now I cut them at 3”. Give a better look on the front of the quilt. Important tip, don’t have a joining seam at the corner. It makes it hard to get that perfect corner due to the excess bulk. Arrange the binding in order to miss those corners.
Perhaps, when you first attach it, your seam allowance is too large. Then, when you fold it over, it doesn't go far enough. Try doing a smaller seam allowance when you start - 1/4". I hope that this helps. :)
So sorry for the length of this.Comment but I am lost. I am a beginner quilter, and i'm having such a hard time with binding. So after you stop a ¼ inch from the end, do you move your binding completely out of the way ? Because when I do that and then stitch to the corner, it catches some of my binding, and then the rest of your Instruction on the corner will not work
Hey! You got stuck with the bulkier join in your binding right on the corner of your quilt too!! (Just like I did with my VERY FIRST QUILT! I mean, what are the odds? Soooooo frustrating.) I notice that that was where a binding join showed up in the very first part of your demo video, but it magically disappeared in the next frame. Inconvenient, huh? Still a useful tutorial video, thanks.
"Stitching in the ditch" is a technique which involves sewing down the channel of an existing seam (the "ditch") to secure pieces of a garment in place without the stitches being seen on the outside. This video will show you what it is! :) ua-cam.com/users/shortsQHFK-5PwkfM
My binding never turns out that nice 🤣. Yet I love quilting and just keep at it with the binding
Thank You so much for sharing.
😮! That's slick.

That's such a good tip! Mitered corners are tricky enough as it is. Also, great point about the size of your binding!
I can never catch the other side in the correct place. So end up hand sewing it, any tips?

Is your binding cut at 2.25 or 2.50
how wide should i cut my binding? 2 inches?
Standard strips for binding measure 2 1/4" - 2 1/2" unfinished!
thanks!!@@SewingPartsOnline

That definitely can happen!! :)
🙂🙂
Even though I do this, I get frustrated because the corner is not at a precise 90-degree angle.
What is the ditch?
