i went true to size and got a supportive insole for a great fit. also paired it with leather laces. had these for a few years and still look great

Both are great ideas. I really wish I would have done the same with the insole.

Thanks for the review. I bought this chukka last summer. I really liked the leather so much that I went and bought the weekender Chelsea as well. That's where things got a bit weird. Got a 9D in both boots and they fit very differently. The chukka is large and roomy on me. I switched out the insole for a superfeet insole and wear a thicker sock with it. The weekender chelsea was very tight out of the box. Especially at the instep. Was really choking my foot. They've loosened up now and are slowly getting more comfortable, but quite a difference in sizing between two boots made by the same company, same leather, and in the same size.

Great review. I’ve had my pair for almost a year and the sole is holding up just fine, but I only wear them maybe once per week. You’re spot on with sizing. My ideal IR or blacksmith size 9EE (or 9.5D that is snug until broken in). I had to go with a 10 on these, but it was perfect with sneaker comfort from day 1. Love these boots.

I’ve had to change the soles of my weekenders after about 6 months though I wore them a lot. The front of the soles actually stared to break off . My cobbler put a type of vibram sole on them and they seem much more substantial but it did add some weight to the boot. I’ve also changed the insoles as the originals began to fall apart. €40 for insoles was a bit pricey I thought. Very comfortable boots overall and I had no issues with sizing .

    • @StrayReviews

I had a suspicion about these soles. A Vibram rubber sole is a good choice.

I will gladly pay a premium for USA made goods, but this seems a little steep. By comparison, I bought the Thursday Boot Co. Scout for almost $100 less and it has their rugged and resilient leather, Goodyear welt with a leather midsole, and a Vibram Christy outsole. Maybe I could be called a Thursday fanboy (according to my wife 😂) but I’m more likely a value oriented shopper. I just snagged some of their USA made Vanguards in waxed cacao and feel they’re exceptionally well made, and an incredible value! BTW, another well done review, thank you!

Nice shirt...... I may or may not be wearing the same one in the same color right now. For the boots, Chukka's and Chelsea's were styles I never really liked. But as I enter my old man faze in life, I am getting into both. And I must say the Red Wings do look enticing.

I've had my Weekenders for 6 years now, and I only wear them on weekends, the soles still look new, I don't recommend sizing down on any of the RW chukkas, the last is different than the moc toes or the round toes, stick to your natural size on the chukkas!!

That's about $227 USD. Cheaper than the $249 they sell for here. Even so, $199 would be a much better price, in my opinion.

There is an issue with the tongue curling out on the right side of the shoes after a 20 mins walk. I was told by redwings that it’s because of the shoe size being too big but on my left side, it is fine. Did anyone have this problem?

I've been wearing these for 10 months, walking 4km per day on pavement to work and back. The outsole is pretty worn away at the front and back. It has also started coming away from the boot at the flex point of each boot and at the front, with visible gaps.
I emailed Red Wing with pictures and they said this does not appear to be any sort of manufacturing defect, but however simple wear and tear. Not covered by warranty. Also said "this is a casual wear style and not made to withstand the same wear as our work line does" and suggested I use Shoe Goo to glue them back together.
Pretty disappointed with how they have held up, and the response from their customer care.

So 10 months is about 200 working days. 200*4=800km.
Are you surprised the replaceable sole is worn out??

    • @Olllie
      @Olllie 4 місяці тому

@@vladyslav4 sole wear is fine. Gaps between the midsole and outsole not so much.

I prefer a higher cut boot "8 inch" but have been looking at a chukka for easy, quick wear.
Im really looking at the Jim Green chukka's. More so for the savings. As well they are good quality along with all their boots.
Also Jim Greens have a small heel, im not a fan of a wedge sole. "My issue"
If i can actually adapt to the lower cut i may try others. Although i am not really found of how easily those red wings start tonshow the wear. Lots to think about i guess.
    Thanks for the video!!!

I’m glad Red Wing offers this shoe along with the Work Chukka, which is the one I’d lean towards at the end of the day. Fit is a big thing for me, so I suppose I need to hold off until my next visit to the city before make a decision if they fit different from my Mocs.

Been wearing these for about a week. I think they look and feel great. I did have to buy a red wing leather insole to get the fit I wanted but I do this with every boot because of narrow feet. That does push up the price. I use boot trees when not using so I don’t have the creases shown in this video. FYI I did put a very thin layer of neatsfoot oil. Very slight shade darker but they seemed to have lightened since. I recommend holding off on boot cream. Thank you for video.

Have owned a pair twice in Hawthorne muleskinner. Got rid of the first pair and regretted it. Where these chukkas shine is the season. You can rock these shoots in the hot summer heat in shorts and still look put together while not stubbing your toe in sandals on the chair or deck . They also shed sand quite well while trapsing to the waters edge carrying a cooler and child. Shoe trees are great and after every season Venetian shoe balm them. That sole will hold up 3 solid years of deep abuse and unlike blundstones you can convince a cobbler to resole them but not all cobblers will say yes. This chukka was intended to go late spring summer and early fall until the big boys are ready to roll out for winter. The shoe originally came out with no metal eyelets and thank goodness they now come with the blind ones. Weekenders in shorts for the win. Great review dude. Cheers KK
