"I came up with “Hurricane Clarice” after finishing The Chandelier by Clarice Lispector (1920-1977). I don’t remember exactly what compelled me to pick up my instrument after finishing the book but I felt moved by her writing and inspired by her artistry. Lispector’s Jewish Ukrainian family fled to Brazil in 1922, around the same time that my Jewish great grandmother Taube, or Tillie, fled Eastern Europe. I was named after her. This track opens with Allison’s great aunt, also named Tillie, speaking in Ukranian about her sister, Allison’s grandmother. We end with an interpretation of John Salyer’s (1882-1952) version of “Brushy Fork of John’s Creek.” ~ Tatiana

Thank you for sharing this with us. I feel raw, almost like I witnessed something violent. I just looked up the origins of the tune, and there is some controversy. But I find it hard to believe this breakdown doesn't depict one of the last battles of the Civil War in southern Kentucky.

@@Shade_tree_garage01 Hmmmmmmmm. What I'm finding is that it was but a minor Civil War skirmish.
In 1864 the Jackson - Blackburn Troubles, pitting families with northern and southern sympathies, erupted on John’s Creek and a fight between small detachments of regular troops, dispatched by Washington and Richmond to support the opposing partisans, occurred there on April 6 of that year. The action was indecisive with the Federals withdrawing north through the Big Sandy Valley towards the Ohio River and the Confederates retreating south over the mountains back into Virginia. The war ended in 1865 but the bitterness between neighbors who fought on opposite sides of the conflict continued unabated and spawned the horrific Kentucky family feuds that followed.
