Severely underrated song. Most people give a lot of attention to Wonderwall and that's great, but goddammit, Columbia is one of their best songs too and deserves more recognition.

Actually, it's a great way to describe the restoration of your senses. Everything feels new when your hearing or sight are restored. The way you feel in a sharpened body is incredibly new, and you have to live in your new sense before you know how to talk about it.

I love the way the entire frequency range is turned up to within a knats bollock of pure distortion, then held there, on the ragged edge, for minutes, while a swaggering wave of guitar washes over & over….
I remember the first time I heard this song. Brand spanking new cd in '94, just me at home, blasting one track at a time, and song number 5 kicks in... FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUCCCKKKK!!!
By far their most underrated song in my opinion. This defines Oasis, a solid pure slab of rock n roll out of Noel's book with Liam at his peak. It doesn't get better than this. #Oasisforever
Pufff you've said it! Agree 100% I remember listening to this the first time back in the 90's, that made me feel like I was part of an Oasis cult because this song I felt it like it was dark, raw...now I can describe it like Oasis as its genesis, like they were about to come out of a cave or something...we all know what happened next
IMO this is one of Oasis' least typical songs. Its almost like a late 80s/ early 90s "shoegaze" record with its wall of sound heavy distorted guitar. And the drum beat too
Recently had a biblically epic moment with the song as the soundtrack. Woke up just before my overnight red-eye was going to land at LaGuardia Airport, NYC. As the dawning sun peeked around the Manhattan Skyline, Columbia came on my headphones. With the orange dawn blazing into the cabin, the full groove hit just as the plane touched down. Like a scene out of a movie. Most fooking biblical way to start a new chapter of my life.
I've probably played this song 100 times in my car with the volume up so loud, the review view mirror vibrates, which is really the only way to listen and appreciate this song.... LOUD! For me, this may be the best Oasis song there is. At 3.59 is when the starts tearing the hair off your skin. Noel's brilliance with Ian's mixing.
Agree 100%. That is the ONLY WAY of listening to this banger. Unreal mixing and Liam's vocals are mind blowing. Probably my favourite Oasis song every time I come back to it.
@@LosAngelesLonghorn I know that's what it says, and that's what most people believe but it's not actually the truth. Columbia started off as an instrumental song which the band formed together. (Tony, Bonehead, Gugisy). From there the song lyrics were actually written by Liam and Chris Griffiths (from The Real People). This is confirmed in Tony's book and from Chris himself, two first-hand sources. Noel did, though, write the second verse "What I heard is not what I hear , I can see the signs but they're not very clear" It's actually a shame that all of these people helped compose the song yet only Noel gets credit for it.

BIBLICAL R&R
Pure and simple elegance. And, I think they didn't write or perform any other better song. It is a beautifully crafted Masterpiece.
Rips the arse out of any songs out present day 😎
Oasis don't get the credit they deserve - their discography is just as good as Radiohead's, and I'm a massive Radiohead fan..
Better
@@nameless.greyceo it's close - Radiohead have made some classic albums but it's more of an acquired taste.. Oasis have sold over twice as many albums as Radiohead which says a lot..
Their best for me. Loved it in 94 and that still has not changed for me.
this may be the best song i've heard in the last 10 years.
Первая песня Оазис, с которой я начал их слушать в далёком 2007 году. До сих пор слушаю, как же круто!
I remember listening to this for the first time at my halls of residence in the first year of university in late 1994, high on amphetamines and weed, and being blown away.
While I liked a few songs from their first three albums, back in the '90s, I was never a big Oasis fan, but this song still sticks with me. I think it's their best song, while not being a well known one.
well , amphetamines and this song makes you feel on the top of the world ....really gives you more self confidence!!! yea yea yea !!!!!
