After 50 plus years of shredding (he practices 4 to 6 hours each day; including days with a show), Steve has had serious injuries to both arms/wrists (his right wrist around 2010). He broke is left arm (changed the way he plays) and has a repetitive injury to his right wrist; leaving no cartilage and forcing him to go from his technically blinding anchored "rolling" picking style, to learning how to play faster parts with a stiff wrist. Check out "Steve Morse Band - Live; Full Concert 1990" to see him in prime.
It's interesting to me that so many comments are trying to 'judge' between the performances of 3 virtuoso musicians - who's best, who's fastest, who improvises the best. Why? Who are any of you to judge between them?! 1. These guys ENJOY playing together 2. You should enjoy what they are doing. They are entertaining you - not trying to get your fucking votes. :)
you're right! but sometimes it's necessary to score on your own subjective view.. it's fun to see people show their devotion to their favorite guitarist, they will argue each other to defend their hero. for me, i love Kirk Hammett and his guitar playing, when i have to compare with any other guitar gods, i'll always say he's the best guitarist and i'll let people argue me for that, just for fun :)
hawkwind Yes I know:) I was just messing around bc of the above comments and he while having a spastic vibrato has made some living and actually is a cool guy it seems but I just wish they would go back to the kill em all days..
Wyatt Birdwell I don't remember how many times I saw DP with Blackmore and then with Morse, but I'm always (and still) speechless when I hear him playing his solos using the vibrato... I don't like to say this guy plays better than this one. I prefer to appreciate their different ways to play guitar. They all got a unique flavor. #Peace
I smiled IRL when John came out, you just know he was having a ball with Morse there. It's always awesome to see truly talented, uncorrupted musicians enjoying themselves, and especially if they are with idols.
yeah, it's kinda obvious on "white room" :-) morse is great. they all are. satch sounds increasingly hendrix-esque with growing age, imho. really nice soloing on "white room" by everyone. :-)
Nacho Akd I'm sorry, what? DT used to be my favourite band and Petrucci is great, but few can compete with Steve's technical ability as well as songwriting. Listen to the Dixie Dregs stuff, mindbogglingly good music.
I fucking know dude, ill like not watch ar listen to anything of his for a while, then just watch a random video and its always like a slap in the face!
I read on another post from a Russian guy Steve and his band were at best average , kinda funny must have some good bands in Russia , I'm gonna go look I think he may be telling the truth.
***** that was pretty much going to be my comment... of these 3 I know Petrucci's stuff the least but in this jam he has by far the best tone. I also thought he played the most tasteful solos that paid tribute to the original songs!
+mason brewer ... i think it's a case of the student outshining the teacher(s)... john is quite a bit younger and freely admits that both joe and steve are among his idols... being the kind of people they are, steve and joe are proud rather than jealous.
I fucking hate Petrucci some times. Because too many times he just starts running for no apparent reason, and that's when he loses me. But when he's on point, boy, he has a great taste. In the tones he gets out of his gear, in his phrasing, his rythm playing... The man's fantastic when he gets his mind right (which to be fair, is often).
Anderton's has an interview with Petrucci up on UA-cam now that runs about two hours. In it, he shows just how he gets his tone. When I ran across it I thought I'd watch maybe 5 minutes of it, and wound up watching the entire thing.
Thank you dude for this video. Simply Great! Awesome to see three of the guitar greatest playing and having fun together. How I wish I have them all three for dinner at my place sometime. :-)
Its nice to see different studies merge together, Miami and Berkeley. I always enjoyed the G3 mashup including Eric Johnson, bringing some Texas to the party. Guthrie Govan would be an incredible addition. Joe is doing great here, and I admire the Marshall sound. As much as I love Steve Morse, I would mandate he use a Classical guitar thru the entire performance. He could do it, well. His music is wonderfully melodic and complex, and as others have mentioned, forms a great song. High Tension Wires, forever.
That was awesome! The best G3 I have seen. Tasty, all 3. Nice tasty and not over the top. Its nice to see Steve Morse up there. I think he is over looked. He's the guitarist guitarist. But all 3 are too notch. And again kudos for keeping it true to the music.
The 101 people who thumb downed this need to go elsewhere. These are 3 of the best guitarists on the planet and you can tell they are having a great time together, no competition, just jamming! Morse is the most understated of the three...he seems to be in awe and just having fun. He's every bit as good as Satriani and Petrucci!
G3 07 was my fav, LITERALLY MY TOP 3 FAV GUITARISTS TOGETHER!!! John had Portnoy with him which was amazing, Satch of course, and then the great and underrated in my book still Mr. Gilbert
Three truly wonderful guys - and amazing musicians - just having a Grand Time together on stage! This is what it's all about in my book! Also the rest of the band - they don't get much recognition - but without them, well....... :-)
these guys make almost all guitarists look like they cant play guitar, and there isnt any shame in that. These three have dedicated their lives to the instrument, as a daily practice. They will be missed someday
Rick Danner It's actually kind of sweet - he knows that sweeping isn't really Morse's style - Morse can sweep, but he doesn't like to, favouring alternate picking arpeggios (how?) instead. He didn't want to be all showy in front of his favourite guitarist because he knows that Morse won't sweep.
This is what happens when three of the greatest drop the usual ego B.S., respect each other, and gang up on some tunes like lions taking big prey. Me, a Morse/Dixie Dregs fan since 77', I was stoked to meet Steve and as most people know, Steve Morse is a true gentleman, musical genius, great pilot and literally "Papa Badass" to John, Satch and Thousands of others. I pray his wife beats Cancer as I was so lucky to do. Steve is right by her side---no surprise there. God Bless Steve and the entire Morse family. Play On Old Man, we're one month apart in age, so I can respectfully say that...can't I?
You really got me-The Kings 2.- White Room-Cream Primero bajé Kings y después Cream.... Wowwww!!!!
Of course these guys are great. We know that. BUT, and I mean a BIG BUTT (pun intended!!!!) Professor Edward Van Halen has recorded the best version ever. He started this whole super guitar thing. Without him they would all be playing differently. No matter what they do, they hear Doctor Ed in their head (Rhyme intended!!!!) and that is a good thing. Let's give credit where it is due. Thank you Sir Edward, thank you.
It is interesting to see three completely differents first rate sets (guitar, amps...) and both sound simply amazing!! Equipment my ass! Thank very much for post buddy!!
The Dreg is back. But his hand will not be. 2/27 03 gig. The guy still delivers and It's not the speed but the songs that matter. Some kind of arthritis or something.
Não é uma competição, é arte e técnica de 3 monstros com setups e timbres diferentes,,,,. Mas concordo com vc ,muito difícil superar o Satriani na técnica, se isso já aconteceu eu ainda não vi, mesmo no G3
Do you notice that at a G3 it is always "check your ego at the door." Besides being good friends, these guitarists are comfortable enough with their body of work so that there is never any "competition" on stage, or one certain artist taking up most of the time. A note for this show: John Petrucci cites Steve Morse as his main influence when he saw the Dregs at the age of 18. It's nice to see the respect these guys have for each other and that is why G3 works.
back in the 70s after a dreggs show Steve stayed at our house and played scales for hours he has his own sound that sticks out ...was my sons first guitar hero how funny he makes his guitar growl like Steve
I love all 3, but Steve Morse, man his notes just cut through the mix like no one else! That thick, syrupy midrange tone. So good!
We dated for a while… would nearly throw up when he played scales next to me when we were watching TV together!
On the Power Lines instructional video he mentions this briefly how he emphasizes certain notes to punch through the mix. A true master.
@@janennec1 what's that suppose to mean? you couldn't stand his playing?
@@lunarlight3131a troll. nevermind.

ellokittymew thank you so much for this. it makes sense seeing it in words opposed to noticing different stuff from sat
ellokittymew
Shut up
Broke it skateboarding… the ramps he made at is home to that were wild!
For me Steve Morse is still the best..
I noticed...he had no chance against Joe and Steve....he wasn't the same🤷♂️
This wasn't an ego contest or shred off...this was some really genius and tastefull guitar!
I love all three of them...
Steve Morse will always have my heart.

***** who's kirk hammett:)))
Metalica lead guitarist, why is that ?
hawkwind Yes I know:) I was just messing around bc of the above comments and he while having a spastic vibrato has made some living and actually is a cool guy it seems but I just wish they would go back to the kill em all days..
No He's Not ;P
The quickest way to appreciate how beautiful and impeccable Steve Morse's guitar tone is by having it in a live performance with other guitarists.
Morse' vibrato is sooooo good.
MaxxxwellC I saw deep purple in 2014 and the way he does stuff I'll never understand.
I've seen him with both DP and Kansas - two different styles - and he was jaw dropping.
#Peace
so is his tone,dang!
what a sweet tone and a sense for melody coming from Steve Morse's hand. Really stands out. What a nice thing to hear. ... sweet
I smiled IRL when John came out, you just know he was having a ball with Morse there. It's always awesome to see truly talented, uncorrupted musicians enjoying themselves, and especially if they are with idols.
As John once said," and then I saw Steve Morse play and my whole life changed!" Rock and Roll!!!!!
John petrucci adalah Salah satu pemain gitar yg tdk sombong, tdk egois, mau berbaur, merendah, dan mau Belajar Dari yg lain, hahaha... ®
Joe is still my musical mancrush. He's got such talent and soul it's almost other worldly
Three guitar monster legends and people arguing who is better?
They're just having some fun, playing two rock classics, not fighting.
damn Steve Morse's sound and play style hits right home.
You can definitely see the influence in Petrucci's sound. He isn't kidding when he says that Morse is his guitar god.
yeah, it's kinda obvious on "white room" :-)
morse is great. they all are.
satch sounds increasingly hendrix-esque with growing age, imho.
really nice soloing on "white room" by everyone. :-)
come on! steve is great but john is inhuman, and joe is also better.
Nacho Akd I'm sorry, what? DT used to be my favourite band and Petrucci is great, but few can compete with Steve's technical ability as well as songwriting. Listen to the Dixie Dregs stuff, mindbogglingly good music.
Omair Sheikh
oh yeah, dixie dregs & steve morse band! mindbogglingly! :-D
romaneberle I needed a word that described how amazing Steve and co are, mindboggling doesn't do them justice but its good enough :P
Steve Morse looks like he is enjoying himself so much. Great to see such a humble guy with huge talent without the usual associated rubbish.
One of the best guitar performance live!!.. Seriously, they were like talking each other with the instruments.
Thank you for sharing! Petrucci is the man! All 3 are incredible players.
The most technical version of Really Got Me in history of ever!
Paul Gilbert did a great one too.
I can't find the Paul Gilbert one, can you please send me the link to it? Thanks! \m/
that steve morse solo just filled the whole venue....
Steve Morse has the best guitar tone in the world.
Steve Morse is still so fun to watch.
Can't wait to see him again for the Nth time, with the Dixies Dregs' reunion tour.
Sometimes I forget what an amazing guitarist Satriani is....
brettt777 idk much about Steve morse but Satriani's one of the senior most guitarist and a teacher to artist like Steve Vai and no. others
I never forget what an amazing guitarist Morse is ;)
I fucking know dude, ill like not watch ar listen to anything of his for a while, then just watch a random video and its always like a slap in the face!
Steve Morse you are a genius!
I read on another post from a Russian guy Steve and his band were at best average , kinda funny must have some good bands in Russia , I'm gonna go look I think he may be telling the truth.
Steve morse's solo tone is soo good
I don't listen to John Petrucci much, but when I do.....I hear some killer TONE....
***** that was pretty much going to be my comment... of these 3 I know Petrucci's stuff the least but in this jam he has by far the best tone. I also thought he played the most tasteful solos that paid tribute to the original songs!
+hazor777 They all had a killer tone honestly. Petrucci has a crazy good shredding tone.
+mason brewer ... i think it's a case of the student outshining the teacher(s)... john is quite a bit younger and freely admits that both joe and steve are among his idols...
being the kind of people they are, steve and joe are proud rather than jealous.

These Legends; Joe, Steve and John are Greats in their own ways... Really a previlage to watch them doing their own stuffs in concert like this...
I love John Petrucci's gesture. So humble, Respect
Petrucci idolizes Steve Morse, and rightfully so. He’s one of the best electric guitar players in history.
As always, Steve Morse has most musical and creative solos
Ekke Lainsalu was the same idea as petruccis solo. Not THAT creative, still a killer guitar player.
It's just three guys, who happened to be superb guitarists, feeding off each other's musical energy! Oh yeah!
Joe Satriani is the only one not sporting long hair and a signature music man guitar with a dimarzio clip lock strap. :D
+Daniel Davidson The heretic! ;-)
cause he is voldemort
My first rock concert was Kansas during the Power Tour when Steve was on guitar. He gave such a great performance!
Damn, Steve's solo tone is to die for
Engl amps FTW!
John and Steve killed it, but there is just something about Joe's phrasing and tone that is so sick. Bluesy but flashy at the same time.
what a fucking incredible set by all 3 of these guys. playing off each other. definition of musical continuance
Thank you dude for this video. Simply Great! Awesome to see three of the guitar greatest playing and having fun together. How I wish I have them all three for dinner at my place sometime. :-)
and watch their shows, listen and chat about music, guitars, guitarists and so on.
cantemirash Thank you for watching, my friend. That day was a lovely day to live.
wow those guitar harmonies were sick! So cool to hear the White Room intro played like that
I am such a huge fan of Petrucci and Morse, but Joe has 'dat soul!
Great video. Thanks to the uploader.

Tom Sawyer probably lost beiber fans or however Thats spelled
G3 07 was my fav, LITERALLY MY TOP 3 FAV GUITARISTS TOGETHER!!! John had Portnoy with him which was amazing, Satch of course, and then the great and underrated in my book still Mr. Gilbert
6:10 steve and john are like:"Holy shit what should I do next?"
Three truly wonderful guys - and amazing musicians - just having a Grand Time together on stage! This is what it's all about in my book! Also the rest of the band - they don't get much recognition - but without them, well....... :-)
Pertucci's King King
the chemistry between these guys is awesome....hands down ..this would be the best G3 line up to see !
you can always rely on satch to unleash a bit of hendrix! 😁😁
Damn you Steve and that sweet vibrato! ahhhhh amazing performance!!
Truly 3 of the greats
Satriani my fav on this G3 .. great skills and sound!
I love how they're playing off each other shows their massive music knowledge
Three fucking legends in one stage... EPIC!!!
Super cool. Got to see Steve perform a few times! Super talent! Hope his lovely wife can beat that nasty cancer! 🙏💪
Steve Morse have the best guitar solo tone ever!
3 great guitar players, 3 guitar gods....
Made me smile. There's little that is better than great music that makes you smile.
Definitel top notch players,no question about it.
think those 3 had arguements over who is better faster??? They all loved creating that together!
Love these three. But I can´t help it - to me - there is something totally unique in Steve Morse´s playing.
Insane!!!! Three different styles that YOU can really distinguish. All monsters!!! Wow. So cool.
10 dislikes from people who can't play guitar and mad about that
these guys make almost all guitarists look like they cant play guitar, and there isnt any shame in that. These three have dedicated their lives to the instrument, as a daily practice. They will be missed someday
To reach the level of guitaring needed to be the best, takes a huge amount of work and time. Only a few can do it. As shown.
Dedication and patience, practice and hard work. I salute them.
No, it's because I got better sound from a 1966 Craig reel to reel tape recorder I got at Radio Shack for $20 as a kid . Fuck cellphone videos.
God john petrucci :) no one can beat him
Here comes Petruccinator lol
HELLYEAH!
+Dominic “Dom” Santiago fuck yeah!!!
When you play this song like that, it’s Van Halen’s “You Really Got Me” version, a cover that is wayyyyy hotter than original Kinks’ one.
I disagree, but each to his own.
Joe Satriani is like a Camouflage, he can adapt to any kind of music.
3 monsters of guitar..
Классные гитаристы!
Главное, что не ощущают друг друга конкурентами.
Они просто усиливают АРОМАТ друг друга и на этом точка!
У нас таких нет😢😮
Mike Kenneally is so frigging underrated. Seems like he'd be really easygoing and a great guy to play with, too.
Those harmony... Melt my face
How fricking epic. Absolutely killer playing.
Thanks for sharing.
man Petruccireally smokes and he didn't sweep and over play he played nice bluesy stuff
Come on Steve Morse keep rocking and I wish your wife a speedy recovery... from Guadalajara Jalisco Mexico
This is what happens when three of the greatest drop the usual ego B.S., respect each other, and gang up on some tunes like lions taking big prey. I commented 4 years ago... and I still am BLOWN AWAY by these guys.. lol 😅
¿En qué año habrá sido esto que me lo perdí? Andaba de parranda... ¿O, qué?? THree wonderfuly distinct tones! Kinda diggin the Distinction on Steve Morse Guitar work. :)
Timbre do Petrucci é matador.🤘🤘🤘
Pure Guitar Genius.
Too much talent for one stage ! :D
Sorry , Written by Ray Davies and performed by the Kinks . VH just did a cover .
It is interesting to see three completely differents first rate sets (guitar, amps...) and both sound simply amazing!! Equipment my ass! Thank very much for post buddy!!
Satch John and Stevie...too good.........
Every guitarist has their own strong, styles and techniques
Satriani always makes his top class shredding/improvising perfect... so affordable to any ear
Three legendary players....so much inspiration from Steve Morse especially.....can we say "Dixie Dregs"
The Dreg is back. But his hand will not be. 2/27 03 gig. The guy still delivers and It's not the speed but the songs that matter. Some kind of arthritis or something.
My fave three... together! Great stuff! Three of the best melodic virtuoso players out there.
thank you for john petrucci,,, i'm very very,,,,, like you in guitar progressive
que grandes me animaron el día carajo!!!
sooo cool you can see the brilliance of their improve..... truly great guitarists

Wow 3 great guitarist havin loads of fun wailin away whew nice performance
You can tell a guitarist filmed this...the singer got about 5 seconds of attention XD Great show
IMAGINE, how thrilling it must be for EACH of these guys to be on stage WITH EACH OTHER?
I think Morse is about as good as anyone can be on a guitar!
back in the 70s after a dreggs show Steve stayed at our house and played scales for hours he has his own sound that sticks out ...was my sons first guitar hero how funny he makes his guitar growl like Steve
di marzio's shining right here!!!
jp is just sick af.
