I just did this in about 30 minutes thanks to the video. Only difference for me was I had to drill out the plastic tabs of the original door handle from the inside. Thanks!
Used a flathead screwdriver to make space under each side of the plastic piece, then used LARGE diagonal cutters to clip them off... only a minute or so for each one! Thank you! Made this SUPER easy to do! Was replacing handles and speakers on all 4 doors so this made it super easy! Looks like new again!
so simple! my wife and i spent 1hr from start to finish working on this. super easy. was a nice family bonding moment with her parents as they watched.
Carefully drilling out the black plastic “rivets” from the back side of panel makes this much easier. I learned this from several previous comments and just confirmed it myself. FYI for anybody about to do this project. Thank you for the very helpful video!
Took me around an hour because this is my first time doing anything with a car. Once you changed the first one, the rest should be easier because you know what to do! For me its mainly because im scared of breaking something when prying the panel off. Thanks for the video!
I just finished doing this over lunch. Without this video, I don't think I'd know what to do. I used a 5/8" spade bit to shave the rivets just down to flush and the handle popped right out. And because I bought a genuine BMW replacement, it doesn't use screws (why they don't use screws/bolts is beyond me but that's neither here nor there) but it was easy to use a propane torch to heat up a camping spike and melt the post into a "rivet". The only thing that didn't go perfectly was I broke one of the fasteners for the initial trim strip. But considering there's one a bout 2" away, I figure it's no big deal.
I followed your advice and used a spade bit to drill out the melted plastic from the inside. That was a piece of cake. Mine didn’t come with any hardware either, so I am going to try your hot stake method.
Bmw need to do better then this...I don't expect to see poor quality on a 40 to 50 thousand dollar vehicle. My door handle has failed also and its pathetic that they haven't had a recall on the trashy poor quality door handle...shame on you bmw designers!!

great video... all I needed to know about was those plastic rivets. I was scared to break/damage them but after watching this it made complete sense. Thank you so much! Sub earned
Great video, just did mine and I usually run into Murphy’s law. The lock mechanism to the door came off but figured that out and everything else went smooth. Thanks for putting it up!
video made it look easier than it is i cut my fingers numerous times trying to pry the black plastic off got the job done but lost some blood in the process sure worth it
Thanks for the useful insight... fixes one of many totally silly problems with my BMW, maybe they were drunk when they designed and built them. BMW, never again !
guys for removing the plastic rivets, I used a 3/8 drill bit on low speed and the rivet popped right off. Way easier and less struggle. (Just be careful while drilling you don"t want to drill all the way through otherwise you will f*** up the holes and wont be able to install the new handle. ONLY DRILL THE RIVET CAP)
Thanks. Note you can make life a bit easier if you first remove the window switch and puddle light before removing the door panel; they both just lift out with a small door panel tool. This saves struggling to pull the wire harnesses out while holding the door in an awkward position.
2:58 is better to remove the end that goes to the door, when I replaced regulator in passenger back seat I removed it like this and it broke :( , this time I removed it from end to the door to replace the handled. took me 40 minutes to take it apart, my lunch hour is over so I took the interior of the door back to the house to finish there since I dont have a garage, just had my first cut, will try the drill. Thanks for the video after 5 years and is still helpful!
Thanks for the video I order the part threw Amazon replace on Tuesday you video help a lot had to check out some other ones for the door but got it door...... Thank You
Only problem I got is tht lil lock pin tht goes thru the hole on top of the door panel keeps getting stuck so I have to manually lock the passenger door I have to push it down now any tips?
Any website where I can purchase these door handles or anything that would guarantee fit? We talking about $100 for OEM door handles each & just for them to go back to that sticky material again smh.. plastic for these door handles is just the best way to go
there is a faster way drill a 8mm hole 5-8mm through the rivets then wiggle the door handle and it will come off then you can just pick off the rivets off the back really easily. the hole in the door cars is exactly 8mm. its ok if you drill too fat it will still work.
Huge tip for people who need help!!! Use a heat gun on the plastic parts and use the screwdriver to push it off it made my process turn to only 30 minutes
Appreciate you bruh but those plastic”ribits “ on the back were a bitch . I had to hammer and tap the screwdriver like a chisel to cut em off but thanks fir the guide bro ! 👌🏾

@@lucasld95 The handle is still firm in place.
Did the same. And window switch can be remove before panel out and slide inside. No need to disconnect
I wish I had done this. Just finished doing it with a screwdriver and ripped my hands to shreds 😂

It's a rivet...drill a hole. Finished it in 30mins ^^

Very helpful video. I did the entire thing in 35 minutes. Super simple now that I knew what to look for and pop off/on.

Farhad Naghash If you’re still looking I got mine on eBay today and it came with everything. www.ebay.com/itm/233430098735

Can the handle be wrapped or covered with leather instead of chamged?
If the handle is pitting, the wrap wouldn’t have a good finish. Better off replacing
