It's crazy how I watch these videos every night.

I just installed one of these espresso machines. Best money I’ve ever spent. I’m selling a shit load of cups of coffee. The Italian machines are truly excellent. And the smell
Of coffee as you walk into my petrol
Station is fantastic.
Espresso is a coffee-brewing method of Italian origin, in which a small amount of nearly boiling water is forced under 9-10 bars of pressure through finely-ground coffee beans. Espresso coffee can be made with a wide variety of coffee beans and roast degrees. However Espresso does not mean made quickly but expressed as in pushed out.
And Americans think it's called an "Expresso" exactly because they think it's meant to be made quickly from a bag and drunk quickly. I'm assuming.
I was so pissed when i heard him say that it is called expresso because its fast.
I mean it's both, and a third thing as well.
It's expressed, made expressly for you (as opposed to batch brewed), _and_ made quickly.
It's espresso, as in press, pressure, not express.
The word has nothing to do with time.
Americans, all the distribution, production etc. none of the facts.
1:41 is called a "flow meter" it's actually used to calculate how much water is going into the machine. If it isn't receiving enough, the machine will stop heating in order to keep the machine safe. I want to add to this, if it's an automatic machine (meaning you can program the doses) the flowmeter then is also used to tell the machine's mother board how much water the grouphead is receiving and when to stop the brew.
that's good to know thanks for the added info 😄
Thanks for that! I was wondering why it had a pump. Why is the water tubing coiled around the flow meter though?
I miss watching this show on TV with my great grandfather :(
I could see that in steam punk. Clear cabinet with a brass support frame, wooden panel for controls and a brass plate.
best youtube channel i've ever subscribed. interesting and explained great. thanks for exist.
Fascinating 🙌🏼
Awesome! Love it. Thank you.
Every time this channel posts a video and I see the dot indicator next to the channel name, I always think I'm about to click on a "science" channel only to be reminded time and again that it's the "How it's made" channel. They really should rename this channel to "How it's made".
But they have other content on this channel that isn't How It's Made
Fascinating.💚💚
In most commercial machines the control circuit is made by a company called "gicar", also the pressure boiler is hand made.
The narrator makes the machine sound so easy to assemble that I think I could make one tonight…
It’s strong but awesome!!!
Blows my mind how much work must have gone into designing each component and how each piece that gets installed came from somewhere else where it was braised/welded/etc. I'm trying to make an automated epoxy dispenser and have no idea where to start with manufacturing. I already have a prototype which was easy but turning it into something like is out of my league.
So cool!
Excellent.
that water pump is huge!
Awesome 👍👍👍👍👍👍
The Italian espresso machine was such a genius invention,it'll remain so as long as espresso lovers exist 😎

Previously you used to blast open a machine. Could you continue that?
I have that kind of espresso machine in my kitchen. Alfred makes me espresso every morning!
Does Robin enjoy when you wake him up with a lovely cup of espresso?
Waw such high quality. These are the one's that are in the 1000's of dollars.
This brand starts at 5000 for their machines
Most commercial espresso machines are well over $20,000
My home coffee machine was already 800$, the machine you see in this video probably starts at 5000 indeed like ken says.
I watched this every morning when I was a kid
Thick steel panels. Nice machine.
So that's why these machines are incredibly expensive!
The machinist in me wants to know if they have one in the break room.
I think more than just one.
😂
DaThings1 needs to make this.
this video explain you everything you are not looking for!
Man I wish I could afford on of these lol
To coffee lovers, it is the love making machine 😅
That has to be a pricey machine.
yup look at all those hand-welded thick metallic parts
But you have to understand that this is the main money maker of cafes. These machines make cafes hundreds of thousands of dollars in revenue.
I think the one they made runs about $8000.
The pressure must good calculate.
The commercial espresso machines are very costly to buy. Hence they are supplied under contract via a coffee producer.
How its made is my Bob Ross
It’s funny how at the beginning they zoom into folding one metal sheet, but the further they go into the episode, the more and more everything magically appears out of nowhere and is just bolted on. Like at 3:46… where did these levers come from? And every time they show only 1 bolt going in for each part. I hope they use at least 2 or 3 bolts per item.
If they showed every single step one by one, the video would go a lot longer then it’s allowed time segment. They have to pick and choose what to show
It is like a puzzle
Excuse me, but I´d suggest you correct what has been said in the beginning of the video, as it´s very wrong.
The gentleman´s argument regarding the machine´s type name is a common mistake. It´s called AND pronounced eSpresso (with the S instead of X) for one reason: it´s the passive past for "eSprimere", the italian verb for "to press" - as, in such machines, the water is pressed thru the coffee in the PRESSurized recipients.
It might even be pronounced almost like eZpresso in some places in Italy.
The fact that the coffee comes out in a relatively quick way, an eXpress way, it´s not only a desirable, but also a deliberated not-so-coincidence.
Cheers! (with an irish coffee, of course!)
Dont care, didnt ask plus you're white
@@justforshit57 what's race got to do with it?
Reminds me of the Daily Dose of Internet clip where some Italian guy went in full shock because his gf broke some spaghetti in a pan 😂 That it’s against the law and such 😂
@@Engineer9736 EX-gf, you mean. Probably. :D
Those WEGA machines are beautiful and expensive.
The title of this video should be how to mount a expresso machine
Did anyone else cringe at the use of power tools to do up a number of the fixtures without first doing a couple turns by hand to make sure they aren’t cross threaded, might just be how I was taught never to use power tools until you’re 100% sure they aren’t cross threaded 🤷♂️
It’s production work.. i guess for the very low chance that they would crossthread a bolt with 40hrs/week experience, it’s probably cheaper to just toss any demolished part out instead of spending time on such low chance issue for every single bolt.
This machine would be very expensive, if I had the doe ray me I'd get one.
I haven’t heard that expression in a long time!
Yeah, getting a bit long in the tooth too mate :)
To big, too inflexible, too expensive. I still want one! And I've already got 2 small, household. espresso makers!!!

@@astafzciba You underestimate my caffien addiction! Mind you, the 2 head unit would still be acceptable.
Say it with me ES-PRESS-O there is no X in it. Nothing Express about it lol
When the hell did humans get so smart to create these machines
I have always seen espresso as the cigarette without filter, where normal coffee is a cigarette with filter.
Espresso uses the portafilter which can filter even the most powdery coffee ground. You got the other way around
@@LasdilElizaga But espresso is a lot stronger than ordinary coffee.
More caffeine in less "water" right?
@@LasdilElizaga Not too sure the filter baskets are more restrictive than a paper filter.
In an espresso filter baskets you can see the individual holes and count them. In a paper filter, I can't.
For espresso you do have to grind the beans finer, because the machine uses pressurised water.
@@JohnDoe-bd5sz Yes, espresso is more concentrated than filter coffee.
If you want to make "Americano" (black coffee) with one of these machines, you would take a shot of espresso and add hot water.
(Or some ppl say you should start with hot water and add a shot of espresso.)
@@oscargr_ Yep, the espresso is a lot more concentrated.
Have tried it, and i normally dont even drink ordinary coffee. Really gets your heart beating hard.
This is my 2nd Keurig coffee maker of this model. ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxBrV-RbF5Nk0Rlt9i15aao-YMzqzTG8Vf The first worked fine for more than 2 years, and I could still get a decent cup of coffee out of it if I fiddled with it when I decided to replace it. The problem I had with my first unit was this: When attempting to brew a cup of coffee, the unit would either keep brewing until the coffee was undrinkable or it would not run long enough and the coffee produced was way too strong. I cleaned the unit as best I could but it did not help. So in the end it was just too much trouble to get a good cup of coffee out of it, so I decided to replace it with a new one, which has been working great since I unpacked it.
When u watched this live on tv
Yo
I'm stuck in this series again
Need help
At 3:14 can someone more competent in the matter tell me why the tank is made of copper? Are they worried about galvanic corrosion with other metals in the system?
Also, the fittings are all brass. I thought brass was not a food contact material, due to the lead?
Less thermal expansion I guess
Espresso Machine Tech here. Mainly for heat and electrical conductivity. May seem strange, but there's a metal stick called a level probe that juts into the boiler a little less than halfway. When the water in the boiler touches that probe, it cuts off the circuit that turns the pump on by directing that electricity through the water to the boiler itself, which is connected to ground, so it stops filling with water at that level to give the steam some room.
The fittings and pipes are typically copper and brass, and its beneficial to have as many parts be made of the same or similar metals so that it all expands and contracts at the same or similar rate.
The brass fittings really don't touch the water as the copper pipes compress against eachother because of the force of the screwthreads. If everything is connected correctly, the water only touches the copper. Though, the pump is brass, the flowmeters arent copper, and the groupheads are usually chromed brass.
Plus, copper has antimicrobial properties... so that helps too.
Generally, no worries about galvanic corrosion as this particular machine is all brass and copper. Plus, lead free brass exists that is food safe.
Other manufacturers use 304 stainless steel for the boilers and group heads.
This isn't huggbees, where tf am I?

its called espresso because the water is 'pressed' against the coffee at high pressure

Those who hit the thumbs down are just trolls! Thank you for sharing this. I love my coffee machines
somehow its made :-)
This seems unnecessarily overcomplicated
Espresso is fairly complicated to get right but you don’t need a machine like this to do it, there are manual versions. A grinder that can grind fine enough and even sized is more important

The assembling is so insufficient. No doubt, why the mashine is so expensive
It wasn't made to be in a landfill 4 weeks after it left the factory either. :)
But.. how is it made? Is espresso made from water and pressurizing the coffee together?
Espresso is made by forcing very hot water under high pressure through finely ground compacted coffee. Tamping down the coffee promotes the water's even penetration through the grounds.[7] This process produces an almost syrupy beverage by extracting both solid and dissolved components. The crema[8][9] is produced by emulsifying the oils in the ground coffee into a colloid, which does not occur in other brewing methods. There is no universal standard defining the process of extracting espresso,[10] but several published definitions attempt to constrain the amount and type of ground coffee used, the temperature and pressure of the water, and the rate of extraction.[11][12] Generally, one uses an espresso machine to make espresso. The act of producing a shot of espresso is often called "pulling" a shot, originating from lever espresso machines, with which a barista pulls down a handle attached to a spring-loaded piston, which forces hot water through the coffee at high pressure. Today, however, it is more common for an electric pump to generate the pressure.
@@sickbale Thank you! I appreciate the effort you made unlike the makers of the video.
@@ursaltydog no problem, it's a pleasure to be useful :)
@@sickbale Yes but how are the water and coffee beans created?
@@Hypercube9 water is basically condensed steam or melted ice, is composed by 2 atoms of Hydrogen and one Oxigen. Coffee beans are the seeds of a peculiar genus of flowering plants (called Coffea) which are harvested and then roasted to give the coffee the typical flavour. *GO ON. I'M HERE.*
I would not call it Espresso, look at the low rate that coffee is pouring out. By the way, Espresso tastes disgusting!
More like "how it's assembled" not made...
Nobody is interested in how the sheets for the casing are stamped or the copper tubes drawn and bent. There are probably enough HIM videos about sheet metal and copper tubes.
