- The brand new Wilson Combat SFX 9 started as a demo gun but after shooting it just a couple of times, I had to transfer this over to me. If you are a fan of Wilson Combat quality and you like 1911 style controls, just go ahead and buy this pistol.
More info on the gun here:

I’m a Wilson guy, 5 traditional Wilson 1911’s and 2 EDC X9’s - all phenomenal. The EDC X9 in my humble opinion is the best 9mm pistol ever made and I absolutely will be adding the 3.25, 4 and 5” SFX9’s to my collection - you just can’t get a better gun. Excellent video!
I love my SFX9, tell me why I need the edcX9. I like them.
It is beautiful, isn't it! Thanks for the review.
It is an absolute please to be able to review your products. Thanks for the comment!
I recently picked this gun up. It is incredible. The solid frame grip feels great. Good to see it get some love. Awesome video
You are a lucky man. Thanks for the comment!
Do they Include a pink extension for the short mag?
@@fredchevry5786 I have the 15 rd. Version. You are thinking the 10 rd. Grip version. Wilson says the one you are talking about ships with a 10 and 15 rd mag. Also will accept the 18 rd extendo which I have. Walking around with 19 in a compact this small is crazy
I would've never thought they could build a better looking/performing x9! This with a 4in barrel would be the ultimate edc, I can't wait to get mine!
The Reel Bro's make some quality films. Great work guys!
It’s personal preference really. I own a edc x9 I had a chance to handle this gun at my local gun store it felt the same but different. The weight seem to be nearly identical and looks wise the 3.5 had a different cut on the slide which was off putting to while me the 4 inch looked identical to my x9 but weighted the exact same per the wc website and what I could feel. The slimmer line offers less custom options like a flailed mag well for the 18 round mag. If it was a little lighter in weight I would definitely consider it. A commander size like the experior would be my jam if ever offered from wc. Great vid thx for the info!
I placed my order for one of these today, it is going to replace my EDCX9s currently on consignment at my local gun store. Looking forward to this one.
You will be pleased!
Question...are the lack of front serrations a problem on the 3.25" model? The 4" model does have front serrations and if I add an RDS I typically rack it from the front.
There aren’t serrations but there is a bevel at the front that I use for racking the pistol.
Greetings what holster are you running with the light combo? Thanks!
In the video I did not have a holster yet and was using one from another gun. Since then, I have had a custom holster made for this pistol by We Plead The 2nd in AZ. Wilson Combat also has holsters for these pistols but none that are light bearing.
@@sawtoothcurruthers3561 Thank you so much!
Excellent!
I am not familiar with this gone and I never shot a 1911 . I am very impressed with this gun . beside the price any diwnside of this gone? what kind of holters (IWB)do you recommended for a CC at 1pm position? Thanks and happy holidays
I have not been able to find any downsides to this gun aside from what you brought up. It is one of their cheaper models but still very expensive. I should have had mine cut for optics but I was very eager to get this gun so I just went for it. The holster I ended up getting was custom made for the pistol because I always have a light on my carry guns. The holster maker is called We Plead The 2nd. Wilson combat has very good holsters for this pistol on their website but none that accommodate a weapon light last I checked.
Great review. I have one on order, so maybe in about a year or so I may finally have it. You said that the weapon light is a Streamlight TLR-7. Is it a specific type of TLR-7? I just bought a Streamlight TRL-7 Sub for my Staccato, but it had to be a very specific version of the TRL-7 Sub; it had to be the 1913 version. The other versions won't fit. Some of the Streamlights come with a variety of keys that you can use for specific guns; and some don't come with the keys. So, is there a specific type of TLR-7 that I should buy that will definitely fit?
TLR-7A flex is what I have on mine. It has a few inserts to make it fit right. And thank you for the kind words!
Does he offer a military discount?
I love your videos especially when you review Wilson Combat firearms. I’d like to add this to my Wilson Combat collection for carry, but I was wondering if you knew if the 3.25 inch barrel 10 round version would be too small in the grip area. I just don’t want my hands extending below the grips. Thank you in advance.
How big is it compared to a sig p365xl?
The 365XL has a longer barrel (3.7”) but is smaller than the SFX9 in pretty much every other category. The SFX9 is thicker in the grip, thicker overall, taller, and heavier than the 365. I have both guns and I carry the 365 when I am trying to be a little more discrete or I when I don’t have as good of a belt to mount the holster. Hope that helps!
I carry a nighthawk counselor. How would you compare this pistol to the nighthawk?
Controls will be similar but the counselor is thinner for sure. They did a good job with keeping the SFX9 as thin as possible for a double stack mag but you aren’t going to beat how thin a single stack like your counselor is. If you are a smaller person, the counselor is probably better for you. Otherwise, they are similar quality and I would carry either myself.
@@sawtoothcurruthers3561 so…i bought one. I’ve put 600 rounds or so through it. No mechanical issues at all. But the trigger was a little heavy for me. So my very 1911 experienced gunsmith put it at 2.5 lbs. I put it and the Counselor with stock trigger on my Lyman gauge. This is the pull approximately of my Counselor after 4k rounds. Nice crisp break. I am very impressed how “rounded” the SFX9 is. It is extremely comfortable on the waist. Even the grip can’t really be felt against the skin. Probably the most comfortable carry pistol I have used. My only issue is that the safety is a little higher than the Nighthawk and bites my thumb a little. This is the best double stack concealed 1911 out there.
@@jaceprovo That's amazing! Thanks for the info.
Update??
Still carry it every day. No issues so far and probably 800 + rounds in.
@@sawtoothcurruthers3561 hows the tlr 7a on it holding up good still?? And this alil confusing because i was on the wilson combat website and it says the tlr 7a wasn’t compatible with this
@@sawtoothcurruthers3561 thanks for the reply bro 🔥🔥🔥
@@RahGzz90 Yeah, I am not sure why it still says that. I have the TLR-7A with the included 1913-2 insert and it fits like a dream. I love the setup. It’s pretty unbeatable with the Wilson 18 round mags.
@@sawtoothcurruthers3561 sorry to bother u again bro just wanted to know on your sfx9 is there two notches on ya light rail
What holster did you use this with?
They now have some pretty good ones on the site but nothing light bearing. I had to get one made from some local guys @wepleadthe2nd
Would you pick an edc x9 or sfx9 4inch?
If you want a little modularity in the grips, go with the EDC X9. If you want it simple and as thin as possible, go SFX9. Both are incredible though.
I love 1911s but I've never shot a subcompact variant. How does this beauty perform and feel in your hands compared to a p365 ?
We talked about this in the comments. If I knew how to use UA-cam well I could probably make this easier but I don’t do I can’t, lol. Look through the comments but the short answer is, I own both and you are in very different categories. The sig is very thin and also very capable but the Wilson is absolutely superior when shooting the two (in my opinion).
Nice.
Have you had a chance to shoot the SFX9 4”? Curious your perspective on recoil/muzzle flip differences. I can’t decide which one to buy!
Thanks for the comment. I have not and don't plan to. This pistol does everything I would even need it to and I can't see that extra length helping me to a noticeable degree for it's application. I know other people will be interested though so please comment again if you do pick up the 4." And who knows, I might get the itch down the road once we get our order for the 4" pistols in from WC :)
@@sawtoothcurruthers3561 appreciate the response man. I found an awesome deal on the 3.25” version with a grey frame with optics cut for the same price of a new black one so I jumped on it. Can’t wait to break it in!
@@jp71889 it’s virtually impossible for you not to be pleased with that. Optics cut too?!?! You lucked out, my friend. Let us know what you think after those first shots.
@@sawtoothcurruthers3561 Will report back brother - cheers!
Well, I still haven’t shot it thanks to my 4 month old, hard to make time. But can’t wait to for what it’s worth, lol. The only feedback I have to Wilson is to throw that XTac pattern on the front of the 3.25” slide too!
"I'm gonna do a natural reload and see how it feels." Camera guy: *goes to the opposite side so we can't see the natural reload*
Man I was really wanting the EDCX9 but after seeing this video I’m torn between them. Leaning towards the SFX9 now.
If you are going to carry it, I would go SFX9. If size isn’t a bit deal, they kind of equal out. I have a video on the EDCX9 as well and I would take this one over it for carry.
@@sawtoothcurruthers3561 plan on carry it and I’ll go with the SFX9
I’m in the exact same boat. Been saving my Pennie’s. And then this comes out. Have been wanting the railed edcx9 now I can’t decide. Either
@@Bobshell-tw8xydon’t you wish we could have both haha
Man I need to feel one of theses . Maybe to thin for me … thanks.
I have pretty big hands and it’s perfect for me. It’s got the same 1911 point of aim that I love. Sounds like you’re a CZ guy so the angle may not work for you but I agree, get one In your hands and see what you think.
I just found one local, used, not a scratch on it....for $1599. Almost sounds like a lie as I type it lmao. I also have the full size. You can't beat em.
Nice find!!! And I agree, it’s hard to think of another pistol that checks all the boxes this one does.
I wouldn’t recommend Wilson Combat products, I bought an EDCX9S that wasn’t reliable and they wouldn’t even agree to bring back for an inspection and test fire to determine cause of the failure to feed after a few magazines. Cleaning fixed it for a couple of magazines but I couldn’t trust it for an EDC or home defense!
That’s weird they wouldn’t take it back to work on it. I’ve never had a problem with all the pistols I have shot (roughly 15 different guns) but that’s just my experience. I am well over 1200 rounds with this one and not a single issue. I normally don’t clean it after every range session either. Sorry to hear that, brother.
I would happily trade my WC EDCX9s for this one. Been carrying it about a year now and would greatly appreciate the extra grip on mine.
Thanks for the comment, I know there are definitely viewers asking themselves what pistol would be better for carry.
@@sawtoothcurruthers3561 Overall mine is not bad, but prolonged shooting and the butt starts to dig into my hand. The G26 concept is a bit dated for a CC pistol. Would much rather have the P365 size with a little more capacity.
I’m disappointed in the durability of this “armor, tough’. It’s neither armor, nor tough. I don’t mind the battle worn look, but I’m pretty surprised how easily these get marked up.
I feel the staccato C2 is more reliable , accurate and just looks more tactical. However I do like the shorter barrel on the SFx. Tough call …
Hard to compare these two guns, both very different and the C2 is very chunky. Have you heard of the SFX9s being unreliable? I haven't heard that and I definitely have not experienced it with mine.
@@sawtoothcurruthers3561 I haven’t heard much on the SF but the Ex9 or EDc9 has seen massive feeding issues. I’m intrigued by the SF but damn I love my staccatos 😂😂. I may have to have my assistant reach out to Wilson for a demo/ sponsor gun. I am actually a relationship influencer but Guns are my side life ha
@@BrandonD I did a video on the EDCX9 and it was perfectly reliable, even with hollow points. My experience is very different from what you are saying but that's just me.
@@sawtoothcurruthers3561 I will check your video on that too my friend
In my group of friends we have 11 EDC X9’s and my range runs 2 of them as rentals - zero failures or malfunctions of any kind from our shooting group and zero reported in 9 months of daily rental use. My populations is small but adding UA-cam video reviews and knowing Wilson, I don’t think reliability has been a problem at all.
I really didn’t care for the video quality. It’s a product review which requires lighting and the first two minutes was in the dark, then the entire video was heavily vignetted and the rest was in stark sunlight without a filter to cut down the glare from the sun. All a distraction from the product.
A comment like this makes a person want to defend themselves. However, you aren’t wrong. I’m still figuring out the whole camera thing. The settings we went with were not ideal and I am still working on the settings/style I like.
@@sawtoothcurruthers3561 sorry bro, didn’t mean to come off rude
Buy a light bulb. I don't know why you're wasting your time holding up the gun
This gives me big “I don’t read the other comments” vibes lol.
@@sawtoothcurruthers3561 why would I care about other people's comments? I have a life
