Thank you Jeff, I'm a newbie to drone world. Bought and flew my Mavic Air only twice thus far. And only for short distances so far. As a hobby videotographer , if I understood you correctly, the Tap Fly "free" mode functions like the previous MP's mode known as "course lock" where the drone locks and flies in selected direction all the while the camera is free to be aimed at any direction without changing the fly path. If this is what "free" mode does than I think this is the most important function of Mavic Air's Tap Fly for cinematic filming. Perhaps you can state this in your video it would clear up a lot of confusion. thanks.
spondyful you are absolutely correct, it is just like course lock. The only difference is i believe you had to "active track" an object with the MP. On the MA, you won't need to lock on to an object.
I am so happy that guys like you take the time to post such informative tutorials to help guys like me. Well done. I just took my first flight ever with a drone, the Air, yesterday and I am looking forward to trying these features out. You educated me well in preparation for the fun to come.
Thanks for watching my tutorial video about the 3 NEW TAPFLY options on the Mavic Air. Let me know in the comments what your favorite TAPFLY option is or drop in a link to a video. I really like to see everyone's creativity for using this feature.
Thanks so much for this video. I received my Mavic Air about 10 days ago, but have been unable to fly due to the weather. As a result, I've been watching videos just to learn as much as I can about the MA. You are correct in that I have not seen any, in the 3 dozen or more videos I've accessed that talk about this feature and it looks so cool. Thanks again.
Thanks again Jeff for your awesome tutorial...... I believe I read somewhere that you can re-set and lock the direction from your original path by yawing left or right In Forward mode. Have you experienced this? If so, can that be done in all the TapFly modes? Thanks again. 😊👍
thanks for clarifying TapFly mode, nice job! I see you also strugle with yaw sensitivity in Free mode. Been trying it myself while ago and I wasn't able to do any smooth movement (in normal mode with lowered yaw sensitivity I'm able to do it perfectly).
Thanks Jeff for your great tutorials! While recording in TapFly, does it stop recording on its own or do you manually stop recording? Thanks again, appreciate ya. 👍😊
Love your channel because it’s packed with everything in detail which is exactly what I’m looking for. I have a drone but will be getting the Mavic Air soon. Neil from England.
Nice video well explained? DJI Mavic Air TapFly is so cool! My favorite is the 'Free TapFly' it's as if Mavic Air is on Autopilot and we can enjoy the flight by moving around the gimbal/yaw! Some one mentioned in another video that Mavic Air's obstacle avoidence System is Deactivated in Free TapFly? Is that correct? Thanks.
Thank you for blu280485 for the nice comment. Nope, that is not correct. The obstacle avoidance works just fine using any of the automated flight modes.
I love your tutorials! I was wondering how you get the video to show your phone screen ("camera view"- showing things like the system status bar, obstacle detection status, battery level indicator bar, etc, mid-flight)?
Emily C thanks for the thumbs up. Basically i am running a screen capture on my phone for the dji go4 app, and then the mavic air is recording as well. Then i just take both clips (from phone and mavic) and put them together in final cut pro x. That way you can toggle back and forth.
Great, this feature combines old Tapfly function with Course-lock and that is so cool. Some people say that, the missing of Course-lock is the reason to not buy the Mavic Air, but now they will change their minds for sure :D I wonder why nobody makes a review of this function so far. Great job Jeff, now i`m sure for myself that definitely will buy this little monster :) Thanks for convincing me :)
Hi Jeff! I did not really figure out if you can do a "Free" Tap Fly and the control the camera with the control sticks and the wheel or just with the touch-display. Can you explain this a little more? Thanks! Btw: Nice video! 👍
Thanks for the compliment Jens! Yes, basically in "free" mode you will fly in a direct line, however your "left stick" and "camera wheel" are fully enabled to point the camera freely(you could spin 360 degrees still flying on the straight line). The "right stick still works as well if you need to change your line of flight. Cheers!
Thats very interesting as it replaces the course-lock feature some people are missing (mavic pro had course lock). But you should be sure, the drone does not fly into something, because the sensors may face in another direction that the flight goes. ;-)
Yes, I am sure DJI will eventually be releasing drones with sensors on all sides. Better for everyone. It's amazing how much things have changed in the last 5 years.
Indeed... I started with drones when Mikrocopter was "the best"... no sensors, often no gps, shaky gimbals and video transmission for 100 meters...and the drones where nearly 5kg heavy. I am so happy we left this behind. 😹 It is really amazing, what DJi has released with the mavic air... very impressive!
This is a great video. I am flying a P3 Advanced and a Mavic Pro. Waiting for my new Air to arrive. I like this new mode and can't wait to try it. You need to do a tut on how to vary the speed of the video clips - are you using Premiere Pro?
StudioInColor / Flo Minton Photography thanks for the nice comment. I will keep that in mind for another video so stay tuned. I am using Final Cut Pro X currently.
Nice coverage on Tap Fly. This also answers my question of why Course Lock was not included for the Mavic Air... it's basically covered now by Tap Fly "Free" mode, with even more flexibility. Keep posting! : )
Great Video! I have a question; While in TapFly why is the Attitude warning always o0n the screen? I'm assuming that the obstacle sensors are inoperative in all TapFly modes, is this correct? One final question; Is there a way to turn off the warning? I.M.O. it's just one more thing blocking a part of the screen. Thanks
Raymond Sherman the attitude warning is actually b/c it was pretty windy causing the pitch of the mavic to be too high or low (front or back). So it just indicates that the obstacle avoidance turns off momentarily. I think the setting is too sensitive on the mavic due to the snall size. My warning is always getting triggered :(
Hey Jeff...awesome video !!!... will directly try it out next time. By the way, which music and video editing software were you using? The speed changing effect looks pretty awesome too !
Jeff Greene thanks a lot for your information, i m also using FCX but have no clue how to get this amazing effects...is this just to use the right speed for a specific timeslot?...or is there a feature which can be used? I always have such a hard cut between the different movies😢 Anyway thanks a lot for your idea ! 👍🏻
Thanks for the awesome video Jeff! May you confirm this please; when flying in Tap Fly Free mode, are we still able to tilt the drone camera up/down with the "camera wheel" on the joystick? thanks!
Hi Jeff Thanks for the info. Can I ask you for something out the concept? how you did the zoom effect in and out, that you have done in this video, it seems like you up the speed of the video, is really nice! How is the name of the effect? Thank You
Hi Darden, thanks for the comment. I used couple things in this video. Most effects are called "speed ramps". Here's a vid i put together on this technique. ua-cam.com/video/ddtaWz7grtY/v-deo.html very easy to learn. The other effect are zoom transitions between clips. I used Ryan Nangle zoom transitions for some of these. Here is a link to his channel as well: ua-cam.com/video/3UI8kjqt09A/v-deo.html
Hello Jeff I admire you so much I'm from Mexico what is the program that you use in order to make the effects that you put in your video in the beginning? Like in fast scene
Hola Beja! I am using Final Cut Pro x for my video editing software. Within FCPx i am using speed ramping for the speed effects. i show how to do that here: ua-cam.com/video/ddtaWz7grtY/v-deo.html For the Transitions i believe most of them are default transitions available (Zoom In, Zoom out, Quick Pan, transitions). Another good channel that creates transitions for download is RyanNangle's channel: ua-cam.com/channels/_tusQ99Bno--GHjhb1Aa6g.html
I have the Mavic Pro as well and do not see these improved TapFly options. I imagine DJI will only add it to the products with rearward facing sensors. Mavic Pro has Active Track w/ Course lock which is kind of similar, except you have to highlight a target.
Jeff, I just subscribed as I've found myself enjoying several of your tutorials recently. I'm a new pilot and I really enjoy the topics you cover, level of detail, explanation given, etc. I will comment that you seem to regularly find really crappy weather to fly in! Frequently very windy!
Hi, yep i actually added the crosshair to point out the horizon line on the screen. If you tap anywhere on the screen above the line, the mavic will rise accordingly. I tap anywhere below the line, the mavic will descend in that direction. Really nice feature, as obstacle avoidance is enabled as well.
Ah, i see what you mean. The green crosshair pops up after you tap the screen to indicate where you want to fly. The green crosshair indicates the target path(so you can adjust as needed).
So basically I can set a straight line, at a certain height, at what speed I tell the drone to do, and it will do that, and I can pause, take a photo, then continue, and the flight mode will continue as before???, so if I pick, say 15 ft above ground, would the mavic pro do this, thanks again Jeff.
Thank you Jeff! I finally had my first drone and will fly it soon! I also like your video about how to edit the footage using Final Cut Pro! Very useful!
I wish you could do tap fly and choose a distance for the drone to fly out to and stop . I find in coordinate mode it isn’t smooth . It does little adjustments which are too fast . Can this be fixed ??
You should try Litchi if you haven't already. You can set up waypoints, and set each way point to have the camera pointed in a certain direction. The camera smoothly moves the position from one camera angle to the next like butter.
Hi Vlada, Not "freely" as you want. However if you go into POI mode you can move towards or away from the locked on target as you fly in a circle, and control the gimbal tilt.
Jeff Greene... so that means, drone will still fly in the circle and if there are some obstacles it will hit it unless you turn off POI. It would be nice to have POI with possibility to move drone by joystick 😊
Correct, that is what i mean. As the drone is flying in a circle you can still use the joystick to pull in or out on the radius to avoid obstacles. Does that make sense?
And what do you think about Air Mavic. I would found it as a favorite if there is only more time in air. Officialy it is 21 but from users I have found out, it is only 16. If you take 2 mins for going up and 2 for taking down..there is only 12 mins of flying ☹
Hi Omar, the elevation is totally dependent on where you tap on the screen. If you tap slightly above the midline, the mavic will rise slightly at the set speed. Make sense?
Ha ha, thanks Mitch, I thought the same thing:) I had to look this up. This msg is actually saying that the pitch of the mavic is either too far nose down/nose up for the forward sensors to to accurately tell what is in front/behind. I believe this was do to the gusty wind on that day.
You don't mention the warnings that come up saying obstacle detection is not working. I have seen this warning on my own mavic air. Scares me to fly in an automated flight with no obstacle detection. Can you explain further?
Hi Ryan, I would not worry about this most of the time. Usually the warning will say the "Attitude is too large". This will commonly happen if the wind is gusty and/or you are flying fast(mavic is leaning into the wind). Attitide means the pitch of the mavic is too high or to low, so the sensors are in effect facing too high or too low to help with obstacle avoidance, instead of facing perfectly forward. You bring up a good point though, when using automated flight modes; always have your finger close to the pause button. Hope this helps!
Great stuff Jeff! Thanks for another great video! I'm really wanting to get the Mavic Air and possibly use it to make real estate photos and videos and I believe a lot of these functions would be very helpful!
how did you remedy the message "cannot fly in that direction" ? . When I get that, I can 't enter tapfly. I tried the tapfly backwards but it appeared that the mavic wouldn't let me enter the fly backwards mode when that message came out. I saw it briefly on your screen and then it disappeared. but I couldn't see how you did it.
Hi Leon, good question. I believe what is happening here is essentially a safety feature. TapFly needs to be done higher than ~10ft off the ground(in forward) if the gimbal is angled down, b/c pretty much anywhere you tap on the screen would be descending toward the ground(sensors kicking in). So i think in this case, when i hit tapfly, the message pops up immediately, since it probably defaults to forward tapfly. However, once I choose reverse, you still want to tap BELOW the horizon line to make the mavic air rise(everything is opposite). I am guessing when you tried tapfly backwards, you tapped above the horizon line, essentially making it descend instead(triggering the error message). Hope that makes sense. Let me know.
Thanks. I think I might have been trying it below 10 feet. I didn’t know about that safety feature. It did work when I started it way up in the air. That might have been the issue. I will try that again next time I go out. 👍
@@JeffGreeneChannel I went out and tried it again and at first couldn't determine the issue. But I think I figured it out. In attempt to do selfie flying backwards, it had the camera pointed down at me, but the horizon line was out of camera view. Once I adjusted the camera view to see the horizon line, it appeared to work every time. Apparently, without the horizon line in view, the tapfly cannot determine whether the direction is above or below the line.
Whenever I press “go” on tapfly on all 4 features, it goes for a second then stops.. I have tried setting Go to many directions but it just stops after a second of it moving towards it.. PLEASE someone help!!!
Please fix your audio levels, your music is blazing loud and your dialogue is so soft I have to crank up the volume too far. Regardless, thanks for the tutorials
Hey Gangsta! Go to Facebook and search for a group called the Amelia Droneharts. It is the world's largest and oldest club for women drone pilots. There are over 700 women drone pilots from North and South America, Europe, Asia and Australia who are both professionals and hobbyist pilots. You will find a safe space and a supportive community who will help you get started flying with great advice and encouragement. Ask to join and one of the admins will send you a reply. I am 60 and have been flying for about 4 years. I recently got my FAA card and am now a licensed remote pilot. I am one of the admins for the Droneharts and we would love to have you!

Great job on the video. I will definitely play around with these. Do you know if it's possible to tap on the map and make it fly there?
Drones and Electric Unicycles thank you! I don't believe you can tap on the map but that is definitely something to check out.
Thanks for the info very helpful ..how did you edit your cool vids speeding up and slowing it back again please..looks amaxing

Hi Jeff. Good tutorial. Will be trying out the time lapse technique with my drone soon. Have done some with a GoPro....nice effects. New subscriber.
I really liked that you ACTUALLY SHOWED HOW TO DO IT!!!!! so many of these vids are so poorly done trying to cover too much material......thanks.....
Thanks Jeremy!

Yep yep Lamont Gilliland, don't tell anyone ;)
And if I just want him to move to his right side? because I want to do timelapsed on a coast
Hi Alexis, try using the 'free' mode so you can freely orient the mavic in the direction you would like to film.
Gracias Jeff
eres bienvenido Alexis!

Hey Jeff...awesome video !!!... will directly try it out next time. By the way, which music and video editing software were you using? The speed changing effect looks pretty awesome too !
Oliver Faiss thank you, glad you like it. I have been using epidemic sound for music and final cut pro x for all of my edits. Happy flying!

I always have such a hard cut between the different movies😢 Anyway thanks a lot for your idea ! 👍🏻
Oliver Faiss check my recent video on speed ramping in fcp x. Very simple once you try it a couple times.
Jeff Greene Thats such a great and convenient function to do that and so smooth transitions now...it makes so much more fun now !!! Thanks a lot !
Thanks for the awesome video Jeff! May you confirm this please; when flying in Tap Fly Free mode, are we still able to tilt the drone camera up/down with the "camera wheel" on the joystick? thanks!

Love the tap fly free mode...will have to try
FairviewRCflier works great!
Great info!
Was TapFly improved in DJI Go 4 for Mavic Pro and/or Spark too?
I have the Mavic Pro as well and do not see these improved TapFly options. I imagine DJI will only add it to the products with rearward facing sensors. Mavic Pro has Active Track w/ Course lock which is kind of similar, except you have to highlight a target.
Jeff, I just subscribed as I've found myself enjoying several of your tutorials recently. I'm a new pilot and I really enjoy the topics you cover, level of detail, explanation given, etc. I will comment that you seem to regularly find really crappy weather to fly in! Frequently very windy!
Ha ha you are right about the weather Wolverine, but the show must go on as they say. Welcome to the group sir!
Good video, thanks Jeff!
I need to use this feature more, only done it once for the last couple mins of battery life. Nice channel
Droning about NW thank you for the thumbs up!
Tap fly coordinate,On one flight can it be that you can set another coordinate without returning it back to you??
Best video yet regarding tapfly. Do you know what the crosshair is indicating?
Hi, yep i actually added the crosshair to point out the horizon line on the screen. If you tap anywhere on the screen above the line, the mavic will rise accordingly. I tap anywhere below the line, the mavic will descend in that direction. Really nice feature, as obstacle avoidance is enabled as well.
You added the green crosshair that looks like this? (+)
ROOF SURVEYS BY RONALD J GAUNT ROOFING. Yep, exactly!
love the coordinate mode
Me too! Makes things so much easier.
the last thing it needs is waypoint mode.
I watch all your videos and I find it easy to understand! BTW, where did you find the background music? That was really good!!!perfectly match!
Thanks Candy Yan! All of my music comes from Epidemic Sound. Check them out, they have great content. player.epidemicsound.com/
Thank you Jeff! I finally had my first drone and will fly it soon! I also like your video about how to edit the footage using Final Cut Pro! Very useful!
What music is that and where did u get it?
Hey Jeff how you speed up like this?
JibaroTech thank for yhe positive comments. This is a speed ramp technique i use in FCPx that works well with drone shots.
The best channel & so professional and easy to guide u step by step 🤞🤞🤞
Jamal Khan wow thank you so much for the compliment!
Jeff Greene sir kindly reply to my question on ur other mavic slow motion video
What app did you use on editing? Thanks
raxell jacob abanes I've been using Final Cut Pro X. How about you?
Jeff Greene - Quik app, just a free app from android user on play store.
Very Nice Jeff! Great Job!
Royalty Tech Reviews thanks so much!
Thanks for these tips and ideas I need to get out and try these options
I wish you could do tap fly and choose a distance for the drone to fly out to and stop . I find in coordinate mode it isn’t smooth . It does little adjustments which are too fast . Can this be fixed ??
You should try Litchi if you haven't already. You can set up waypoints, and set each way point to have the camera pointed in a certain direction. The camera smoothly moves the position from one camera angle to the next like butter.
Did a great job Jeff.. thanks for the videos.. keep making tutorial regarding to mavic air, i just bought a new one and trying to be a good at it.. :)
Thank you Marlon, i appreciate the positive comment. Let me know what you want to see more of and i'll try and make it happen.
Great video, I just bought the Mavic Air and you're teaching me how to use it, thank you.
Thanks Mike, I appreciate the compliment. Happy Flying!
Great video, I'm working on my review of the mavic air and also saw these features and they are awesome, compared to the spark tapfly
Thanks for the thumbs up Jibaro Tech. I agree. The automation features really help to get a lot more done with a 21 min battery.
Sir nice ..sir can you give me link the sound? Thank you
Thank you Makoy! I found this track on Epidemic Sound.
I have question. Is it possible to lock the target with camera and then to move with drone manually as you want?
Hi Vlada, Not "freely" as you want. However if you go into POI mode you can move towards or away from the locked on target as you fly in a circle, and control the gimbal tilt.
Jeff Greene... so that means, drone will still fly in the circle and if there are some obstacles it will hit it unless you turn off POI. It would be nice to have POI with possibility to move drone by joystick 😊
Correct, that is what i mean. As the drone is flying in a circle you can still use the joystick to pull in or out on the radius to avoid obstacles. Does that make sense?
Jeff Greene I guess it is good solution... or pause button 😊. Anyway thanks for quick reply. Cheers
And what do you think about Air Mavic. I would found it as a favorite if there is only more time in air. Officialy it is 21 but from users I have found out, it is only 16. If you take 2 mins for going up and 2 for taking down..there is only 12 mins of flying ☹
Good job man thank you very much for everything. Can’t wait next video. Love from Turkey .
Thank you Mehmet, i appreciate the compliment!
Great video can't wait to try...
Tallguysd thanks i appreciate the positive comment.
Very good Jeff thanks 👍👌
Porto4ever Filipe thank you!
I just learned something new, thanks.👍🏽
Been looking for this info! Thanks for posting!
You got it MrMainstain
Great video! Thanks for sharing
Vee TV thanks for the thumbs up!
How do you smooth out the yaw settings in Tap Fly? After I set them to smooth in EXP, they don't hold in Tap Fly.
thank you for posting this very informative no one really talked about it before Great Job.
Aiman Naaj thank for the kind words. Have you tried Tapfly yet?
Do you manually elevate the drone or is it preset ?
Hi Omar, the elevation is totally dependent on where you tap on the screen. If you tap slightly above the midline, the mavic will rise slightly at the set speed. Make sense?
Jeff Greene makes perfect sense, great videos, I subscribed. Happy Holidays!
Thanks Omar, welcome to the group, and happy holidays to you as well!
Wow! That was amazing Modes. Not thinking that Mavic Air has this awesome features Thank you sir for this tutorial.
Ocram, you are most welcome. Thanks for the thumbs up!
Great tips... had to laugh "attitude is too large" haven't noticed that typo on mine yet 😆👍
Ha ha, thanks Mitch, I thought the same thing:) I had to look this up. This msg is actually saying that the pitch of the mavic is either too far nose down/nose up for the forward sensors to to accurately tell what is in front/behind. I believe this was do to the gusty wind on that day.
Good job, Jeff, timely info. Video maybe a tad dark and audio/music balance could use a tweak. No big deal.
Keep up your great INDEPENDENT work.
Thank you for the comment Baza Cat. Do you have any tips for matching up light levels w/ different cameras? I would be interested.
Very usefull!
Great tutorial! Getting mine soon! Thanks for the tips! Subscribed👍🏽
josh786manchester thanks sir! Happy flying!
very informative! thank you
fungayoyo you are most welcome!
Cool! thanks for this video)
Thanks Kabir!
Nice shots of NC State, Go Pack! :D
Thanks Doug!
Great stuff Jeff! Thanks for another great video! I'm really wanting to get the Mavic Air and possibly use it to make real estate photos and videos and I believe a lot of these functions would be very helpful!
Thanks Kris, drones are great for real estate work.
Thanks
You're welcome Prajwal!
how did you remedy the message "cannot fly in that direction" ?
@@leonslack2182 yep, exactly. I was trying to explain that but you did a much better job. It's all about the horizon line.
10secs+ "Cat we need you to rap", etc The Prince, but seriously folks, some good ideas there Jeff thank you.
Tony Walker thank you very much...i think. Wait, who is the prince?
After 3, sing with me 1 - 2 - 3, "Purple Rain Purple Rain",......Sorry I know it was off topic but I couldn't resist. :-)
Another helpful video for a noob like me. Thank you! DJI thought of everything. 😄👍
Thanks pinkywinky222, you won't be a noob for long:)
This feature is very underrated
great feature very useful and no one else review this
Thanks for the positive comment balweg, enjoy!
Thanks man, I didn't even know that was so easy to take some really great shot ! Still like the ''full manual mode'' but I could use it :)
Quentin Leroy thank you sir!
Excellent fella! Never bother my arse going into some of these features but I think I'll give them a go later! Noice!
Glad you like this Quad FLY, Happy Flying!
Whenever I press “go” on tapfly on all 4 features, it goes for a second then stops.. I have tried setting Go to many directions but it just stops after a second of it moving towards it.. PLEASE someone help!!!
are you around restricted airspace 41 vids? mine won't fly toward restricted airspace if it's close by.
Cool
Looking good
Please fix your audio levels, your music is blazing loud and your dialogue is so soft I have to crank up the volume too far. Regardless, thanks for the tutorials
Thanks for the feedback Zack. Hopefully my newer videos do not have this problem.
thank bro
Roshantha Kumara thank you for the thumbs up!
Hi my friend
I also new to Drone world
Still learning
Спасибо
This is why i'm not allowed to have a drone. It seems so complicated, but you sure make it look easy!
Ha ha, that is too funny. It is actually very easy. Everyone starts off the same. Thanks for the fun comment.
StudioInColor / Flo Minton Photography thanks, I’m headed there now!
First class..
Dude, liked your video but the music volume was WAY to high.
As much as I love my Mavic Air features, tap to fly to me is the worst feature, I used it once and that’s it, I just don’t see a good reason to use it
Oh wow, that's interesting. Why is that LinoPR2016? For me it helps keep my camera movements smooth.
Nice Punta Cana video by the way!
Jeff Greene thanks,I’m just an amateur, I look up to guys like you and I learn....
Thanks for the compliment, we are all learning:)
Jeff Greene by the way I subscribed 👍🏻
Liked the video hated the driving base beat
It is a pity that lying can not afford the truth - this drone breaks its range after 100 meters in the city!
