Please explain why reset xform does not work properly on mirrored objects... Normals get flipped after reset xform on mirrored objects. Is there a work around? Thanks in advance.
nice to know that! is that also the reason for the model looks wired in substance painter? sometimes it looks like inside out and i can't paint on the surface. Thanks!
Resetting scale and rotation works fine via this method, but not when it comes to the transformation. I've read numerous places that you can alt+right mouse click the object, and a menu will appear where it will let you freeze transformation, but that alt+rmb, doesn't make eany window appear
That depends on what your trying to achieve. In the 'default' shortcut setup Alt + rmb should make the dialog appear that allows you to 'freeze transform'. However this function is for animation NOT modelling. ( my tutorial is really orientated to fixing modelling issues ). Freeze transform in 3ds max allows you to zero the animation controller by adding an extra animation layer. If your in maya navigation mode the shortcut may by different. but you can also get to the freeze transform dialog by pressing X to search all actions and typing ' Freeze transform' transform in the search box What I don't cover here is how to recenter the pivot point ( which is kinda a separate issue to the scaling problem ). But if that's what you need you can recenter the pivot by: - opening the 'hierarchy panel' - clicking the 'pivot' button - clicking 'affect pivot only' - clicking 'Center to object ' - finally click off 'affect pivot only' While 'affect pivot only' is on you can move and align the pivot in any way you choose . I'll often snap the pivot to a vertex to make sure edge loops line up. (i.e you don't have to use the 'Center to object ' button ) Like i said max is 'somewhat ' like Maya so while the functionality is there the definitions and workflows are different. I hope this helps but if this doesn't answer your question then ping my a reply here. :)
Hi @@kenzorman ,thank you for the reply. right now I am just testing a simple box placed next to world center. I did the search via the X button as you suggested, and choose "freeze transform", it gives me a warning message which i proceed, however it does not reset the transformation. I also tried going into the "Hierarchy" menu and hit the "Reset Transform". Lastly I went into the "Utilities" menu and tried the "Reset Xform". Nothing works. 3ds just won't have it. Grrr
@@kenzorman that is what is currently happening, when I reset all transformation axis input back to zero, the object just go back to world center. What i want is like in Maya, where I can place an item where ever in world space, and then freeze transformation, so the object will go to that point whenever i reset all transformation axis inputs. Unfortunately that does not seem to be possible in 3ds max or am I missing something?
you rooooock man , thank you
Dude thanks a lot for the tutorial...but I swear this is the WETTEST tutorial ever!!..lol
Thanks for the xref tutorial it was helpful.
Excellent explanation!

There's also the transform toolbox that gives a quick single click options to reset the pivot and align the pivot point

@@knekker1 what do expect should happen ? Are you trying to move the box back to the center of the world ?
