I recommend doing the Wings program over a Flight Review. I'm on my third hour of a flight review, and quite frankly, I have no idea what curveball the instructor will throw at me at me next. You may get a reasonable instructor or somebody who thinks of themselves as a Jr. DPE. The wings program is more predictable and will specifically tell you which maneuvers you will be asked to do. During your lesson, you can improve on those maneuvers until you've checked the boxes. As the presenter mentioned, Flight reviews are prone to be arbitrary, so the FAA is discouraging them. The FAA is even paying instructors money as a sweepstake to have them embrace the FAA Wings Program.
Beware of newly minted CFI's who are DPE wannabees

Light sport. I don’t need my pilot cert yet or medical. Right?
$50 an hour sounds optimistic nowadays. Last flight review I had, I was charged 90.
Rates for CFIs and airplane rental definitely varies region by region... in my area, at GMU airport, it is $45/hour for CFI and $145/hour to rent (wet) a C172.
$90! Yikes! What area are you flying in? Instructors around here all charge about what the instructors out by Robert Alexander do.

I’ve made good use of the FAASTeam website and content (I have lots of wings certificates) but have not had good luck finding a local flight instructor participating in the “Wings” program. I look forward to your take! I’m beginning to cover materials now for a flight review this spring.
